Brandon Lowe hit a walk-off home run as the Pirates beat the Tigers and took two out of three in the home series. Greg Brown still has incredible enthusiasm for the Pirates. Paul Skenes walked the first two batters of the game for the first time ever. His velocity was slightly up but not much. Skenes won't acknowledge there is an issue. Skenes still isn't pitching good enough and they might shut him down.
The best part of a national convention is not just the stacks of kits and the contest tables, it's the moment you walk in and realize you are surrounded by your people. We're back from the 2026 IPMS National Convention and talking through the full comedown: the unpacking, the reorganizing, and the small but important truth that some “solutions” in the model room (looking at you, retail paint racks) just do not work at home. Then we get into the conversations we recorded on the floor. We sit down with Jay Chadwell of Mojo Model Works to talk 3D design and 3D printing for the stuff nobody else makes, from real space hardware to pop culture subjects that instantly hit the nostalgia button. We also talk with Randy Chisholm about his USS Texas turret project, a scratchbuilding rabbit hole where scarce references, mechanical realism, and clean construction matter as much as paint and weathering. We also catch up with Keith Zimmerman about building a striking 1/48 B-24 Liberator for a show exclusive release, including what it takes to handle huge decals and tight timelines. And we're thrilled to talk with Arma Hobby about how modern injection-molded plastic kits get designed, why 1/72 scale is having a moment, and how a company stays grounded in what modelers actually want to build. Finally we close with our show host and sponsor, Brandon Lowe of SquadronTop it all off with a “what broke our wallets” recap from the vendor room, and you've got a convention debrief that feels like sitting at the bench with friends. If you enjoy this, subscribe, share it with a modeling buddy, and leave a review so more scale modelers can find the show.Model Paint SolutionsYour source for Harder & Steenbeck Airbrushes, Mixing supplies, and great advice!SQUADRON Adding to the stash since 1968Model PodcastsPlease check out the other pods in the modelsphere!KitMasxCustom Canopy Masks for the Scale Modeler. The BATTLIN' BUCS. The Pirates came back from 3-1 down to win the game, 4-3 over the Tigers. A banner day for Rafael Flores Jr., who hit a pair of homers, including the game-tying HR in the 9th. Brandon Lowe walked it off with his 27th long ball of the year just a few batters later. So, plenty of good – the Pirates won, but how did Paul Skenes look? Skenes looked very average again, to be kind. Plenty of control issues that had him running up the pitch count and removed from the game before he completed 5 innings.
Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Steelers-Packers last Thursday had a better rating than any Penguins or Pirates game this season in the local market, even though we hear people say they don't care about it. What is the future for the NFL preseason? Mike thinks we could look at 20 regular season games with 0 preseason games at some point. Mike thinks the NFL international expansion would go ‘at least' 2 teams at a time, so there is always an even number. Mike believes the expansion could get to 40 teams, with a pair of 4-team international divisions in each conference. Could there be a new way of travel that would help NFL teams get from the United States across the pond? What happens if a team in Australia clinches home-field in the playoffs? Mike said the NFL would go to Canada and ‘not think twice about it' if the league knows they can make money. Mike mentioned other difficulties that will arise for teams and players that are in the international markets. Which countries would be in the front of the line here? If countries can just tout money, the NFL will bite, which includes places like Saudi Arabia being on the table. Mike doesn't expect to see Tony Romo in the booth for CBS this season and perhaps never again. Mike thinks CBS was looking for a reason to get out of Romo's deal more than they were embarrassed by what he actually did. The convo turned to love for Bob Seger. Mike was sadly reminded of 13-9. After the chat with Mike, we talked more about the iconic 2007 college football season. Do the Pirates have any shot to make the playoffs? Calls in reaction to the Pirates winning in walk-off fashion against the Tigers.
The Pirates rallied to beat the Tigers, but the big issue is still Paul Skenes. After the team gave him a few extra days of rest, he struggled again – failing to finish 5 innings. We looked back to last night and watching Braxton Ashcraft mow down the Tigers over 8 innings in very quick manner. How should the Pirates handle Skenes for his next turn in the rotation? What options do the Pirates have here? They could skip his next turn in the rotation or give him a phantom IL stint (for a pitcher, 15 days in the minimum). A little piece of history today for Rafael Flores. Brandon Lowe has not been good in August, but hit his 27th homer today to win the game. What do the NL Wild Card standings look like right now? Manger's Minute – What did Don Kelly say after today's game?

Fort Wayne set a new bar for what an IPMS National Convention can feel like: busy without being crushing, loud without being unbearable, and packed with modelers who actually have room to stop and talk. We're fresh back from Nationals, and before we dive into the “juicy bits” in our next feature show, we wanted to put the spotlight where it belongs, on the people who made the weekend work and the small, practical choices that made the whole event comfortable. We get specific about what made the venue shine for a scale modeling convention: vendor spaces that stayed compact even when split up, aisles that didn't turn into a slow-motion traffic jam, contest and squadron rooms with real breathing room, and acoustics plus carpeting that saved our feet and our ears. We also talk about why Fort Wayne is a sneaky-great convention town, from easy food options to a memorable minor league baseball night that turned into one more shared story. Then it's a gratitude tour of the community: Mark Copeland dialing in lodging, Aussie friends traveling halfway around the world, Canadian friends choosing camaraderie over and unfortunate political climate, listeners stopping by the table, and the MMCL folks who keep raffles and local shows running like clockwork. We celebrate wins for the Septemberists, congratulate award winners we're proud of, and close with a huge thank-you to Brandon Lowe and the entire Squadron team for going above and beyond. If you love plastic model kits, model shows, and the best parts of the IPMS USA community, hit play, share this with a friend who needs a Nationals nudge, and leave us a review telling us what makes a convention unforgettable for you.Model Paint SolutionsYour source for Harder & Steenbeck Airbrushes, Mixing supplies, and great advice!SQUADRON Adding to the stash since 1968Model PodcastsPlease check out the other pods in the modelsphere!KitMasxCustom Canopy Masks for the Scale Modeler. The Pirates finally found their offense in a 9-0 win over the Mets, and Bubba Chandler gave them exactly the start they desperately needed. DiNardo and Ty Ty break down Chandler's six scoreless innings, the continued growth in his fastball command and slider, and why this may have been one of his best starts of the season. They also discuss Ronny Simon providing a much-needed spark, Jake Mangum collecting three hits, Brandon Lowe hitting his 25th homer, Endy Rodriguez's latest injury concern, and strong work from Lake Bachar and Kirby Yates out of the bullpen. Can this finally be the start of the winning streak the Pirates need to get themselves back into the race? The NS9 Postgame Show is powered by Primanti Brothers. The Pittsburgh Pirates closed a disastrous road trip with a 5-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, dropping to 57-60 and back into last place. Nathan and Doug break down another lifeless offensive performance, costly baserunning mistakes from Endy Rodriguez and Nick Gonzales, the continued defensive problems at third base and an uneven start from Braxton Ashcraft. Brandon Lowe provided one of the few highlights by hitting his 24th home run, setting a franchise record for a Pirates second baseman. The deadline additions have done their jobs, but there have been no leads for Luke Weaver and the rebuilt bullpen to protect. With the offense collectively slumping and the team looking completely disengaged, can the Pirates find a pulse before the season slips away? Alex Stumpf and Colin Beazley have both confirmed the Pirates have released Marcell Ozuna. How would you grade how Ben Cherington has done? The Brandon Lowe and Ryan O'Hearn additions have been significant. Signing Ozuna was a bad decision and Joe thinks Cherington's drafts the last few years saved his job. Is Ozuna the worst free agent signing in Pittsburgh sports history?
Joe said logically the Pirates should sell but our hearts wants them to buy! BUY OR SELL? Joe thinks the biggest story in Pittsburgh sports today is the sudden decline of Paul Skenes. Joe thinks it's best to trade Brandon Lowe and try to trade Mitch Keller. Ben Cherington's job may be on the line. The Pirates have put them in a difficult spot.
The Pirates scored seven runs and still found a way to lose. DiNardo and Jim Rosati break down a pathetic 8-7 loss in Cincinnati after Paul Skenes allowed five runs in four innings, the bullpen blew another late lead and Nick Gonzales made a costly decision at third base during the Reds' eighth-inning rally. They also discuss Ryan O'Hearn's injury, Antwone Kelly's three scoreless innings, strong performances from Jake Mangum and Brandon Lowe and what a four-game losing streak means with the trade deadline approaching. Tampa Bay Rays ace Shane McClanahan exited his start early after suffering an unexpected physical setback. Corey Pieper breaks down a high-stakes injury update, top prospect call-ups, the Friday Pitching Planner segment, and the FanDuel Bet of the Day. The health and transaction wire is moving rapidly as Shane McClanahan exited his latest outing early, top prospect Max Clark earned a major promotion, Edwin Arroyo was sent back to the minors, and both Blake Snell and Kyle Harrison are embarking on rehab starts. Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani was held out of the lineup, Harrison Bader is officially out for the season, Curtis Mead is scheduled for re-imaging in four weeks, Jazz Chisholm Jr. exited early with cramping, and relief pitcher AJ Minter joined the Twins. Daily performance slates featured strong outings in the studs column from Kody Clemens, Noah Cameron, Alex Bregman, JJ Wetherholt launching a home run and swiping a bag, Roki Sasaki, Brandon Lowe, and Ryan Weathers dueling Sean Burke. Conversely, several prominent options struggled into the duds section, with Jake Burger going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery turning in 0-for-5 days, Lars Nootbaar going 0-for-4 with three punchouts, and Bryan Woo, Trent Grisham, Jose Caballero, Kyle Tucker, Eugenio Suarez, and Bryan Reynolds all taking heavy hits. Our Friday Pitching Planner segment zeroes in on essential weekend rotation strategies, highlighted by top prospect Quinn Mathews making his highly anticipated start on Saturday. 93.7 The Fan MLB analyst Matt Clement joined the show. Matt was very impressed by Mason Montgomery's dominant 8th inning last night. He was unsure why Montgomery did not come out for the 9th, and he is also unsure of why Gregory Soto didn't pitch the 8th inning. Matt thinks that Wilber Dotel is the Pirates' high leverage right-hander as of right now, with Yohan Ramirez kind of serving as the swiss army knife. Matt also disagreed with the decision to pull Valdez to pinch-run Billy Cook on second base in the 8th. More w/ Matt – Ken Rosenthal said that the Pirates are aggressively pursuing Luke Weaver. Poni asks Matt if the Pirates would be willing to Pay Luke Weaver 12.5 million dollars next season, to which he is not sure. Matt says that he would do anything in his power to trade either Murf Gray or Florentino to get Miller, but he would not trade Seth Hernandez. More w/ Matt – Is it possible that the Pirates end up trading Brandon Lowe at the deadline? Matt thinks that they would probably have to lose the next 3 to the Reds to consider moving Lowe.
The Pirates looked dead for seven innings, then somehow erased a 6-0 deficit and forced extra innings before falling 8-7 to the Diamondbacks. Brandon Lowe and Bryan Reynolds went back-to-back, while Brandon Eisert and Ron Marinaccio gave the offense a chance to complete the comeback. A rough start from Bubba Chandler and sloppy defense ultimately proved too much to overcome. Cody and DiNardo break down the comeback, Jared Triolo's costly mistake, Chandler's uneven night, the recent improvement from the bullpen and why the rubber match now feels like the biggest game of the season. Brandon Lowe delivered when the Pirates needed him most, driving in their first run, scoring the tying run and producing the walk-off hit against the Diamondbacks. Alex Stumpf explains why Lowe's veteran presence has become so important for a Pirates lineup dealing with injuries to Esmerlyn Valdez, Oneil Cruz and Spencer Horwitz. Plus, updates on Endy Rodriguez's return and the playoff atmosphere surrounding one of Pittsburgh's biggest games in years. OffBeat is presented by FanDuel. Brandon Lowe capped a three-hit night with a walk-off single in the 10th as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 and moved into a tie for the final NL Wild Card spot. Neil and Doug break down Bryan Reynolds' game-tying double, Mitch Keller's third consecutive solid start, a huge performance from the bullpen and Mason Montgomery's escape after Pittsburgh's defense created chaos in extra innings. They also discuss the biggest concern from the win: Esmerlyn Valdez leaving the game after being hit on the left hand. Presented by FanDuel. Jared Jones delivered six innings of one run baseball, but the Pittsburgh Pirates wasted chance after chance in a 3 to 2 extra innings loss to the Chicago Cubs. Tyler and Neil break down the bases loaded failure in the fifth inning, Henry Davis' difficult night behind the plate and on the bases, Jake Mangum's baffling bunt attempt in the tenth and the continued struggles against left handed pitching. They also discuss Marcell Ozuna's place on the roster and whether Bryan Reynolds, Brandon Lowe and Ryan O'Hearn can break out of their current slumps. The Pirates got two great starts on Wednesday, but the bullpen faltered once more. Chandler had one of his best starts ever. DK made a horrible decision. A caller gives his take. This is becoming the "protect your pitching investment" era of baseball. Callers chime in on who the Pirates should acquire. More callers give their Pirates proposals. Does Cherington have more sway than Don Kelly when it comes to how long a starting pitcher goes? Austin Hedges back to Pittsburgh?? Paul in Washington isn't a happy camper about Don Kelly. Jeff Hathhorn joins to discuss Brandon Eisert's woes, if Bubba Chandler could be traded, the replay review to end the game, more Mason Miller proposals. If you could add any player to the Pirates for the rest of 2026, regardless of contract and trade compensation, who would you pick? Skubal? Ohtani? PCA? Or still Mason Miller?
Pirates insider Jason Mackey joined the show. Did the front office push for Don Kelly to pull Bubba Chandler last night? The guys wanted to know the predetermined nature of decisions like the one made last night. Should we be concerned about Brandon Lowe and Ryan O'Hearn, who are both in the midst of a rough drought? Jason projects Spencer Horwitz to return ‘this weekend' and Oneil Cruz possibly in the next 2 weeks. Jason said the report of the Pirates not spending extra cash at the deadline is ‘baloney.' Jason doesn't think there will be a half measure taken this time around.
Bubba Chandler put together the best start of his career last night, but the Pirates were shutout by the Yankees in the second game of their doubleheader. The offense scoring 0 is a story, but not the big one. With Chandler cruising into the 7th inning, Don Kelly pulled him from Brandon Eisert. Predictably, the Yankees immediately scored twice to take a 2-0 lead (where the score would stay). Was it preplanned? Why can't the Pirates push aside the script if someone gives them reason to? The guys brought up times this year when a pitcher is pulled well ahead of when the team would like, so why not have the same energy now? The lack of feel has grown in the wrong direction. A tough call for the final out last night. The guys wanted to hear more heat from Don Kelly on the umpires, even in a game that was a shutout loss. Pirates insider Jason Mackey joined the show. Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to left wrist inflammation, marking his third stint on the shelf this season. Corey Pieper breaks down a frantic wave of injury updates, an incredible single-game home run barrage in Cleveland, high-leverage late-inning bullpen roles, and the FanDuel Bet of the Day. The transaction wire continues to move at a relentless pace across Major League Baseball. On the health front, Bobby Witt Jr. was forced to exit Monday's contest early with lingering back tightness, Miguel Andujar hits the injured list with a wrist fracture, and Max Meyer lands on the IL with a neck strain. Additionally, top catchers and outfielders are banged up as Kyle Teel manages an ankle injury, Kerry Carpenter is sidelined with a heel bruise, and Trevor McDonald was removed from his start due to an undisclosed injury. On the positive side of roster moves, Ronel Blanco has officially been activated, Ranger Suarez is set to return to the mound today, and Gleyber Torres is officially back in active lineups. On the diamond, the Cleveland offense staged an absolute power showcase by smashing seven home runs in a single game, driven by multi-homer performances from Rhys Hoskins and Petey Halpin alongside long balls from Travis Bazzana, Brayan Rocchio, and Patrick Bailey. Cal Raleigh broke his game open with a grand slam, while Yordan Alvarez, Mookie Betts, Trea Turner, Jeremy Peña, Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, Esmerlyn Valdez, Ty France, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Caleb Durbin, Cooper Pratt, Victor Robles, and Dillon Dingler all turned in big days at the plate. Pitching highlights featured sharp outings from Bryce Elder, Nick Martinez dueling Dylan Cease, Andrew Abbott facing George Kirby, and Kyle Leahy battling Jose Soriano. Conversely, several high-profile stars cratered into the duds section, with Joe Ryan, Cristopher Sanchez, Emmett Sheehan, Freddy Peralta, Jacob Misiorowski, and Jacob deGrom all taking heavy damage on the hill, while Brandon Lowe, Kyle Schwarber, Braxton Ashcraft, Ryan Weathers, and Ivan Herrera posted quiet, empty nights. Our rotating Bullpen Report zeroes in on late-inning situations around the league, breaking down Aroldis Chapman remaining in Boston, Alex Lange carving out leverage in Kansas City, the dual usage of Tyler Wells and Andrew Kittredge in Baltimore, a crowd of options in Chicago featuring Grant Taylor, Sean Newcomb, and Seranthony Dominguez, Edwin Diaz nearing a potential weekend return for the Dodgers, Mason Montgomery rising in Pittsburgh, and the unsettled hierarchy in San Francisco. The Pittsburgh Pirates are firmly in the National League Wild Card race, and their improved depth might be the biggest reason why. Jim and Ryan discuss how players like Billy Cook, Tyler Callihan, Endy Rodriguez, Jacob Gonzalez, Jake Mangum and Esmerlyn Valdez have stepped up throughout the season. Even with Oneil Cruz, Konnor Griffin, Spencer Horwitz and Brandon Lowe missing time, the Pirates continue to find different ways to win. They also discuss the Pirates' plans at the trade deadline, concerns about ownership limiting payroll, potential bullpen targets and the upcoming series against the New York Yankees. With the Steelers playing on Black Friday this year, the amount of leftover food will be a sight to see. Crowley continues to try and fix sports. ESPN sent out a list of potential trade targets for all teams. ESPN says that the Pirates need to add a couple of arms(duh), to become more of a contender. Crowley does not see the Marlins as a good team just a hot team. Crowley has some questions about what it will take for the Pirates to make the playoffs. Will the Pirates add another arm to the bullpen? Dorin says they will, whether it is the right arm or not. Crowley and Dorin are not fans of the Brandon Eisert part of the trade. Will Oneil Cruz and Spencer Horwitz continue their success when they return from the injured list? Can the Pirates go on a hot streak during the second half of the season? Crowley says they can as they have yet to have a true "hot streak" this season and it is due at some point. What better point of the season to get a hot stretch than the second half? Crowley accuses Dorin of flexing for the camera, however I don't think Crowley knows what muscles are and cannot differentiate stretching and flexing. An in depth dive into the trade targets on the top 100 list. Would you rather add Luis Arraez for the Pirates at second base and move on from Brandon Lowe or keep Lowe without an extension?
The ESPY's are tonight. We took the categories for the sports awards show and gave them a Pittsburgh twist. 93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff believes the Pirates will absolutely trade for bullpen help before the deadline. He doesn't expect a ‘prominent' starting arm to come in, but maybe a project. What would the cost be for some of these LHPs that could be on the block? Mitch Keller told reporters he was going to take the extra time during the break to work on a few things. Jeff doesn't think a Brandon Lowe trade is on the table unless the season completely hits the skids in the next few weeks. Judge Donny – Is Rocky the best sports movie of all-time?

Brandon Lowe is having a career year in his first season with the Pirates. Should the Pirates consider dealing him at the deadline if they fall out of contention? The Astros just traded Lance McCullers, and did not get anything in return that will help them this year. The Astros are also closer to a playoff spot than the Pirates are. The Pirates have re-ordered part of their rotation for the second half of the season. Because Skenes and Ashcraft had the whole All-Star break to rest, they'll jump up in the rotation and it will be Jones-Ashcraft-Skenes to open up the 2nd half of the season. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Lamar Jackson was voted in the 60s on the NFL top 100 list. Mike says that this is because of how bad the voting process is for the NFL Top 100. Florio says that Art Rooney is open to making the field turf, as opposed to grass. He also says that it is possible that all fields are eventually turf. Mike says that it is way cheaper to make the fields turf instead of grass, which is why the owners are so adamant about the change.

The Pirates are sending Paul Skenes and Braxton Ashcraft to the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, but neither pitcher will actually appear. Even worse, one of baseball's highest-scoring offenses will not have a single position player representing it. Alex Stumpf breaks down the historic snub, why Bryan Reynolds and Brandon Lowe deserved serious consideration and why MLB may need to expand All-Star rosters to better recognize deserving hitters. 7-14 Fan Morning Show 8am Hour Matt Clement joins the show. The guys congratulate the Clement family as Madden was drafted by the Kansas City Royals. Paul Skenes gave some comments about his last couple of starts and what he thinks is different from years past. Matt says he thinks Skenes would like his velocity to be a little bit higher but he has adjusted to what it is now. Matt says that this has been a "maddening first half" but also a fun one! Who are the guys' picks for MVP of the Pirates so far? Crowley says that Esmerlyn Valdez is his pick. Nick Gonzales gets an underrated honorable mention. Brandon Lowe has fallen off a little bit in recent weeks but he has still shown he is a main contributor My MVP pick is Evan Cisk if we are picking players who are not the usual suspects. Even though he is hurt, Cisk is the only player that has been consistent and leaves you confident he will get the job done. A caller says Braxton Ashcraft is his first half MVP. Crowley says the LVP is Mitch Keller over Marcel Ozuna. Dennis Santana is the leading LVP candidate in the clubhouse not named Mitch Keller. Someone in the Audacy Office is trying to lose weight but also ate 6 tacos last night. Crowley is trying to quit drinking, but he has high school friends visiting this weekend.

7-13 Fan Morning Show 6am Hour: The Pirates swept the Brewers over the weekend. They are the highest scoring team in baseball. The guys thought the Pirates would be eight games back when today started. However, the Pirates completely reversed those expectations. Dorin wishes this had happened after the All Star break or a couple of weeks before. Can the Pirates continue their momentum on Friday against Cleveland? Is it too late for Esmerlyn Valdez to be considered for NL ROY? Paul Skenes also says he wishes the All Star Break started later so they can keep the momentum going. How would you grade the first half of the season? The offense has been great, but the pitching and bullpen have dragged the grade down a lot. The Pirates had one player with a higher OPS last year than the entire team's OPS this year. A caller asks about potentially extending Valdez to a long term contract. Crowley asks who needs to step up in the second half to make the playoffs. Dorin says Ben Cherington. He needs to step up to solidify the bullpen so it is not a weak link anymore. The bullpen seems taxed because the starters have gone on short outings this season. Another caller grades the Pirates at a B right now. The Pirates are in the top three in most offensive categories. Pirates catchers this season have 16 home runs and also rank highly in other offensive categories even though Henry Davis is struggling. Brandon Lowe and Ryan O'Hearn, the two primary bats the Pirates acquired this offseason, account for 25% of the runs the Pirates have scored this season. The Pirates have already hit more home runs this year than they did all of last year. How much credit does Matt Hauge deserve?
On this episode, Mark Simon is joined by two major leaguers: Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe and Guardians catcher Austin Hedges.Brandon talked to us about how he's been one of the most improved defensive players in baseball this season and the one small change that made that possible. He also shared some behind-the-scenes of what went into making some great defensive plays.Austin rejoined us after chatting with us about all things catching defense in 2019. We focused our attention on pitch challenges, both how he's handling them and the strategy that goes into whether or not to challenge a pitch. This is very much an episode for learning about how players do what they do defensively. Thanks as always for listening. Hour 3 with Bob Pompeani, Joe Starkey, and Matt Clement: MLB analyst Matt Clement joined the show. "Ryan O'Hearn is a bigger All-Star snub than Brandon Lowe." Matt thinks the Pirates would rather sign two or three players like O'Hearn then sign Brandon Lowe. Matt Clement was at the Pirates game on Tuesday and was concerned about Paul Skenes at the start of the game. Skenes allowed two runs over six innings. Skenes threw 13 balls and 12 strikes in his first 25 pitches.
MLB analyst Matt Clement joined the show. "Ryan O'Hearn is a bigger All-Star snub than Brandon Lowe." Matt thinks the Pirates would rather sign two or three players like O'Hearn then sign Brandon Lowe for the same money. O'Hearn got a curtain call at PNC Park with a career performance. What's the greatest individual performance in Pirates history?
Pirates insider Jason Mackey joined the show. Ryan O'Hearn had one of the best days in Pirates history. The run support changed how Paul Skenes pitched. He attacked the zone. Jason thinks Brandon Lowe might still have a chance at the ASG but it's not likely. Jason didn't understand why Carmen Mlodzinski pitched yesterday.
Dan Zangrilli reported that Brandon Lowe could still be traded. He said the Pirates have practically "no chance" of re-signing Brandon Lowe. The Pirates are 7th lowest in payroll and are barely over $100 million. There is probably a lockout coming, and there needs to be a salary floor.
Joe created an 82-0 team with Ben Simmons as point guard?? We hear from Pirates fans who want the Bucs to commit to Brandon Lowe. Would you rather extend Brandon Lowe or Oneil Cruz? Austin would rather sign Lowe!
Hour 1 with Joe Starkey: Dan Zangrilli reported that Brandon Lowe could still be traded. He said the Pirates have practically "no chance" of re-signing Brandon Lowe. The Pirates are 7th lowest in payroll and are barely over $100 million. The Pirates CAN sign him! We hear from Pirates fans who want the Bucs to commit to Brandon Lowe. Would you rather extend Brandon Lowe or Oneil Cruz??
Hour 2 with Joe Starkey: Would you rather sign Brandon Lowe or Oneil Cruz? Nick would take Oneil Cruz over Brandon Lowe. Charlie Batch said the Steelers are not going to keep four quarterbacks. Will Howard and Drew Allar need the reps and to overtake Mason Rudolph. Nick agrees and says the Steelers need to use the roster spot elsewhere. The Penguins signed forward Egor Chinakhov to a three-year contract worth $6.25 million per season. Joe thinks it's a fair deal. Arturs Silovs is back on a one-year deal.

Brandon Lowe was not named to the National League All-Star team, but his season with the Pittsburgh Pirates is becoming impossible to ignore. On today's OffBeat, Alex Stumpf breaks down Lowe's 21 home runs, his chase of Neil Walker's Pirates second base home run record, and why this could go down as one of the greatest seasons ever by a Pirates second baseman. Alex also looks at Bryan Reynolds' All-Star case, the Pirates' big series win over the Nationals, the wild card race, Oneil Cruz's absence, Spencer Horowitz's impact, and why Pittsburgh's path to October still feels real if the bullpen gets help. The Pirates survived Washington, but now the real test begins. On this episode of Bucco Brew, we look ahead at a brutal stretch against the Braves, Brewers, Guardians, Yankees, Cubs, and Diamondbacks while the Pirates are likely still without Oneil Cruz and Spencer Horwitz for at least part of it. What does surviving the next three weeks actually look like? Is .500 baseball enough? We also dive into the weird All-Star conversation. Paul Skenes was named the Pirates' lone All-Star, but Brandon Lowe, Bryan Reynolds, and Braxton Ashcraft all have strong cases. How does a team with one of the best offenses in baseball end up with zero offensive All-Stars? Plus, Endy Rodriguez and Henry Davis have quietly turned the catching situation into a strength. Is this less of a controversy now and more of a functional setup? @eddiep_photos @timelessimagery.mtl Download our app! : https://apps.apple.com/us/app/north-shore-nine/id6771171000 : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.northshorenine.app Use Promo Code NS930 for 30% off your first order at https://www.defer.coffee Use Promo Code NORTHSHORENINE for $20 off your first order at https://www.seatgeek.com LIKE and SUBSCRIBE with NOTIFICATIONS ON if you enjoyed the show! ►Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/NorthShoreNine ►Website: https://www.northshorenine.com ►Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/northshorenine ►TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@northshorenine ►Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/northshorenine ►Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/northshorenine ►Discord: https://discord.gg/3HVYPg544m #pittsburghpirates Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
