The Pirates made a signing last night, but it's not one to get very excited about. Gregory Soto, a 2X All Star lefty reliever, isn't knocking the guys' socks off. Poni, a split-fan between the Pirates and Mets, said Soto was a terrible pitcher in New York. The guys spent time knocking this signing before jumping down the throat of Ben Cherington for another bad off-season move to add to the resume. The big question is – why is a left-handed reliever the first move the Pirates made? Former MLB pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Matt thinks the effort for Kyle Schwarber was ‘legit' on the Pirates' end, but getting him away from a big market like Philadelphia was already an uphill battle. He's not sure what kind of offer would have lured Schwarber away from the Phillies. Did the Pirates have any chance at Pete Alonso and were they even interested? The guys asked Matt about the Scott Boras factor and if he will still push his clients to simply take the most money if that money is coming from the Pirates. Matt reacted to the Gregory Soto signing and thinks it's a ‘great' pickup for the bullpen that needed a left-handed reliever. Matt credited Ben Cherington for putting together a group that has a strong pitching staff, but certainly has holdups on what he has acquired offensively. Matt thinks there needs to be a conglomerate of hitters to turn things around. Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. TK reacted to the Penguins losing a game last night after giving up the tying goal with 0.1 seconds remaining. He said it happened because they never thought it would happen. Tyler feels like the team has lost a little bit of their swagger, specifically when they get into shootout situations, where they continue to lose. He said it takes one win for them in that spot to maybe get things rolling. TK talked about some of the things guys need to learn when approaching a shootout. Tyler deciphered the difference between going down the ice in a shootout versus doing it via a breakaway. TK said it's all about a goalie being about to read the blade and puck placement.

The Penguins are the most enjoyable team to watch in town. They are in playoff position and things are different with Dan Muse. Communication is better and TK thinks that Muse is easier to talk to. Things have been simplified.
Tyler Kennedy would not trade Tristan Jarry now. Good goaltending is hard to find and TK isn't sure if Sergei Murashov is 100% ready. Joe would trade Jarry. TK thinks Connor McDavid will 100% win a Stanley Cup.

Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. If the playoffs started today, the Penguins would be in – and TK believes they will make it by season's end. He brought up a weak division and the fact that the Penguins don't look like a team running on smoke & mirrors. Tyler said he doesn't care what Tristan Jarry does in the regular season because it only matters how he performs in the big games and in the playoffs. TK told the guys he continually hears great things about Dan Muse and the new voice leading the team. TK thinks the players have responded so well to the change at the top. Tyler thinks Sidney Crosby will reach 40 goals this season.
Ben Roethlisberger is now on-board with Mike Tomlin moving on. He suggested the Steelers ‘clean house' with the coaching staff. Are you starting to think this is actually possible, with more and more voices starting to bring up a topic they've long been so afraid of? That not only includes national voices, but people who have covered the team for years and never thought things would reach this point. The Fan vs The Fans. One of the only national voices willing to step up and call out Mike Tomlin is Colin Cowherd. The guys applauded Cowherd for the act of saying the non-losing season streak means zero in the NFL. Some of the numbers breaking down Tomlin's shortcomings in years where they simply made the playoffs – only winning playoff games in 4 of those seasons. How many defenses are left for Tomlin? When will the majority of national voices turn the corner? More players are being asked if the scheme is the biggest issue with the Steelers defensive woes. Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. TK thinks the Penguins need to pay the hot-hand at goaltender until someone cools down. He said the rhythm is very important for the guy between the pipes as the Pens deal with 3 of them on their active roster. Could playing Tristan Jarry more and more be in an effort to trade him? Justin Brazeau is TK's team MVP so far because he's been so much better than anyone expected and his absence is noticeable. Is this the best we have seen Erik Karlsson play in a Penguins uniform? TK gives Dan Muse a B+ for his first quarter-season grade as Penguins coach. Tyler likes what he sees from Evgeni Malkin and is hoping he can keep building this momentum for the rest of the season.

A source inside the locker room told TK that the vibes inside the locker room are so much different and better with Dan Muse. "Everyone has a voice" with Dan Muse as head coach. TK thinks that the Penguins have a plan for Harrison Brunicke. If Malkin wants to stay for another year, what does Dubas want to do?
Tyler Kennedy is encouraged by what he's seen from Sergei Murashov as the answer in goal. He wouldn't rush Tristan Jarry back from injury and wants to see an extended look at Murashov and Arturs Silovs. TK wants to see more Murashov. A look around the NHL.

Are you starting to get excited, Pirates fans? The report from Jeff Passan the other day had us wondering if the Pirates would actually follow up on their lofty off-season expectations. The mood was pretty dire – questioning if it would be any different than the off-season's we are used to. Poni said he has heard it will be the ‘best off-season under Bob Nutting.' Well, we'll see about that. The Fan vs The Fans. Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. The guys asked TK why he doesn't go on the Morning Show, but he's present on the others. Tyler said the weirdest guy he played hockey with was Brent Burns – sighting the extensive reptile collection and the quirky things he'd do. How many players are more superstitious than Sidney Crosby? There are reports that Evgeni Malkin will have a sit-down with Kyle Dubas to discuss future options, which could mean more Geno in a Penguins uniform.

Would you trade Tristan Jarry when the Penguins return from Sweden? Jarry has been ok but Silovs and Murashov are the future. Tyler Kennedy thinks it's way too soon for people to try and compare Sergei Murashov to Marc-Andre Fleury. Ben Kindel scored his first goal very early in his career and has the confidence he belongs in the NHL.
Tyler Kennedy doesn't think Mike Sullivan would have played and given an opportunity to Ben Kindel like Dan Muse has. Erik Karlsson seemingly called out Sullivan by saying you need to do things that you're good at, not what someone tells you to do. Dan Muse has set up the Penguins in a good way.

The Steelers activated Will Howard today. Is there any shot he becomes a good QB in the NFL? Or should we just look at the draft stock and give him no chance? It's easy to point to the Steelers as the blame here more than anything, but the guys discussed what he could look like if given an opportunity, referencing his numbers and what he had to work with at Ohio State. The Fan vs The Fans. Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. TK said Erik Christensen had some of the best hands in hockey that he's ever seen – relating to the Penguins' struggles in shootouts. Tyler said the Penguins are starting to win him over, but the last 2 games have been very tough ones to lose. The guys discussed the difficulty between winning Stanley Cups back-to-back versus winning Cups a few years apart. Is Erik Karlsson a ‘born loser,' like Poni says? Would you take him over Kris Letang?

Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. The Penguins have made a plethora of moves, including the promotion of Sergei Murashov, who could be the goaltender of the future. TK said if this kid has great early returns, it creates a ‘good, tough' decision for the Penguins when Tristan Jarry is healthy. He suggested the team putting Jarry on waivers if Murashov shows out. Tyler said it will be a tough transition in terms of crowd noise and attendance, as well as the uptick in the pace of play. He will likely get his first action against Alex Ovechkin, the greatest goal scorer of all-time. The guys asked Tyler about the collapse in Toronto the other night when the Penguins held a 3-0 lead after 2 periods.
We continued to react to the Steelers standing pat at the trade deadline. Poni had a gripe with the people who cover the team, many of which are on our airwaves. Almost all of them lauded the team for not making a single move yesterday, giving the team an A+ for their work. Poni believes the same people would have given the team the same grade if they had made moves. The Fan vs The Fans. Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. Stanley Cup Champion Tyler Kennedy joined the show. Tyler has respect for figure skaters. Trevor Zegras has brought fire back to the Flyers-Penguins rivalry. TK still doesn't fully believe in the goaltending.
Sidney Crosby and Trevor Zegras weren't allowed to take part in the shootout after Sid came off the bench at the end of overtime and earned a misconduct. Joe wanted the NHL to allow Crosby to participate because it was "Frozen Frenzy" night. Tyler Kennedy understood the move with the rules and was unfortunately the proper decision.
