Mike Florio of "Pro Football Talk" joined "Baskin and Phelps" on Thursday, talking all things Browns, and why he is questioning why the Browns always plan for the future, even during times when they were competing.
Leila Rahimi, Marshall Harris and Mark Grote were joined by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk to discuss the latest NFL headlines.
In the second hour, Leila Rahimi, Marshall Harris and Mark Grote were joined by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk to discuss the latest NFL headlines. After that, Rahimi, Harris and Grote discussed Brewers first baseman Andrew Vaughn's resurgence in Milwaukee after his disappointing White Sox tenure. Later, they discussed the importance of Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon's impending return to action after he was sidelined by injury for the team's first four games.
Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike talked about the Joe Flacco trade, sending the QB from Cleveland to Cincinnati and in line to start this weekend. Mike was surprised the Bengals didn't call the Giants about either of their veteran backups when things were going south with Jake Browning. Can Flacco succeed in Cincy with the talent they have at receiver? Mike said the Browns getting something back for Flacco was the reason they made the move. The Ravens also made a trade yesterday, moving one of their few healthy defenders to the Chargers. Mike is a bit surprised that Baltimore is still the favorite in the AFC North. Mike speculated that Lamar Jackson could miss more time than we originally thought.
10 years (and a day) since the Pirates were last in a playoff game – the 2015 Wild Card loss to the Cubs. Those teams from the three year stretch between 2013 and 2015 are remembered fondly – as they should be by some fans of a younger age. Should we subscribe more to the Paul Skenes mindset though? He wants to bring more than just a Wild Card win and a Divisional Series loss in 5 games to this city. The guys mentioned the double standard we have with the Steelers, who lose in the Wild Card round almost annually. There is no blaming of the fans because we should remember those teams well, but not THIS well, due to the ineptitude of the front office since then. Former MLB pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. The guys wanted Matt's reaction to the pitching matchup tonight in Milwaukee, which features 2 former Pirates – Jameson Taillon and Quinn Priester. Matt said you can compare those guys to other former Buccos that have found greener pastures elsewhere on the mound. The guys asked Matt about different philosophies in small markets that help those franchises make the playoffs. Matt doesn't see why the Pirates would part with Andrew McCutchen even though he's not the same player he once was. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Are things as grim as they look for the Ravens after a 1-3 start and Lamar Jackson being injured? Mike believes they have some serious issues. Mike went through the AFC, but he thinks the door is open and they have a ‘seat at the table' 4 weeks into the regular season. Mike called the Dublin game a ‘toss up' going in and said it's big that the Steelers won the game, even if they took it down to the wire. Mike said the Steelers should keep their eyes on available WR with the injury to Calvin Austin, but the trade deadline is still a little bit away. Mike reacted to the Tyreek Hill injury. Mike and Chris talked about the success of the Ireland game and what it means going forward for the league. Mike mentioned the idea that we could see 16 international games per season once we reach an 18-game regular season. Mike, a lawyer by trade, was asked about the Skylar Thompson situation after the Steelers QB3 got ‘robbed' and ‘mugged' in Dublin.
The first 4 weeks of the NFL season could not have gone better for the Steelers. The Browns are being the Browns, again. The Bengals lost Joe Burrow for majority of the season and by then, they will be long out of it. The Ravens will be without Lamar Jackson for possibly 2-3 weeks while they sit at 1-3. Is this division there for the taking? Are fans starting to feel like the Steelers are favorites in the AFC North? Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Next, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk joins. Leila Rahimi & Marshall Harris close the show by discussing Craig Counsell's pregame comments on the injury status of Kyle Tucker.
Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike said the Steelers defense just is not getting it done. He brought up the follie from Kaleb Johnson and how the Steelers are usually the beneficiaries of plays like that. Mike said the mistakes made fall on Mike Tomlin and everyone else in the organization. Mike said this all falls back on Tomlin and it is really odd seeing the Steelers defense look like this. Mike doesn't think the Steelers will start poorly enough to dangle big name players, or even Aaron Rodgers at the trade deadline. Mike and the guys went through some of the critical plays from Sunday. An age-old question about Tomlin's coaching tree that lacks any branches. Why didn't the Steelers keep Brian Flores in their building? The guys asked Mike a few Tom Brady related questions. Mike expects the Bengals to forge ahead with Jake Browning and not trade for another QB.
Mike Mulligan and David Haugh were joined by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk to discuss Raiders minority owner Tom Brady's conflict of interest as he also works as the NFL on Fox's lead analyst.
