Hour 4 with Jeff Hathhorn: Michael on the offense "This team's more talented" than the 2013 Pirates. Michael thinks Esmerlyn Valdez's zone awareness is what makes him very good. His power is immense. Michael thinks adding Jacob Gonzalez, it will allow Jared Triolo to play a little bit more third base and Triolo bounces around. Who is one player you wish you could watch in the MLB All-Star Game?

The Pittsburgh Pirates closed out the weekend with a 14-5 win to complete a three-game sweep of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers. DiNardo and Doug break down Paul Skenes' encouraging start, a ridiculous 10-run fourth inning and huge production from Henry Davis, Jared Triolo and Marcell Ozuna. The Pirates now head into the All-Star break three games over .500 with an offense that continues to produce despite injuries to Konnor Griffin, Oneil Cruz and Spencer Horwitz. Konnor Griffin's injury has changed the conversation around the Pittsburgh Pirates trade deadline. On today's OffBeat, Alex Stumpf looks at why shutting Griffin down was the right decision, how thin the Pirates infield depth has become, and why Jared Triolo, Nick Gonzales and Tyler Callihan may not be enough to get this team through the rest of the season. The bullpen still needs help, but the Pirates may now have another real deadline need. Pirates analyst Michael McKenry said that the vibration of getting jammed in your glove or at the plate is very painful with a finger injury and difficult to play with. Jared Triolo is swinging the bat better and will likely be called upon. Paul Skenes' fastball spin is down. Braxton Ashcraft has the best WAR of any pitcher on the Pirates.
Manager's Minute – We heard what Don Kelly had to say after the news broke of Konnor Griffin being out 8-10 weeks with an injury to his left ring finger. Poni was amazed to find out Clint Eastwood was alive to watch Babe Ruth play. Jared Triolo is going to see majority of the time at SS in the absence of Konnor Griffin. Should the Pirates call the Red Sox about old friend Isiah Kiner-Falefa? We tried to cheer ourselves up by listening to some funny Pirates highlights calls. Donny Football Debrief – Interesting story tells us how Bill Belichick could have become the winningest coach in NFL history, all thanks to Sean Payton.
Pirates Insider Jason Mackey joins the show. Jason says that his biggest takeaway from today's game is that Esmerlyn Valdez is for real. Mackey is a fan of Jared Triolo because of his defense, but also mentions that his OPS is above .800 his last 13 games. Jason says that he would be surprised if Skenes is still adamant about pitching to Henry Davis after his recent struggles. He thinks it makes sense to try something new. Jason thinks that Paul Skenes puts too much on his plate and cares too much about being a people pleaser. Mackey thinks that nobody on the internet is seeing anything with Skenes that the Pirates are not seeing.
The Pirates took down the Phillies 6-1 and split the series in Philadelphia. They sit at .500 after 88 games this season. They also now lead baseball in times sitting at .500 this season with 14. Poni thinks the turning point of today's game was the first inning when Jared Jones fell behind Trea Turner, the leadoff guy, 3-0 and ended up striking him out in front of Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. The Pirates still sit at .500 after they have lost Paul Skenes last 9 starts, which could be a good sign. Pirates Insider Jason Mackey joins the show. Where would the Pirates need to be to go from a buyer to seller? Matt Clement thinks it would be 10 games under .500. It's a desperate time for the Pirates. Matt thinks when Konnor Griffin comes back, Jared Triolo is still going to be on the team. Bob just wants to see Henry Davis hit.
Hour 4 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: Matt Clement thinks it would be 10 games under .500. It's a desperate time for the Pirates. Matt thinks when Konnor Griffin comes back, Jared Triolo is still going to be on the team. Bob just wants to see Henry Davis hit. Jason thinks Konnor Griffin could come back this weekend at PNC Park against the Reds. Oneil Cruz is still around 3-4 weeks out.
The Pirates finally gave their pitching staff some support. After scoring just three runs over the first two games of the series, Pittsburgh broke through for eight runs and 13 hits in an 8-6 win over the Rockies to avoid a sweep in Colorado. Nick Gonzales got the offense rolling with a two-run homer, Bryan Reynolds continued his outstanding June with a three-run blast, and contributions came throughout the lineup from Jake Mangum, Jared Triolo, Tyler Callihan, and Spencer Horwitz. Jared Jones exited after three innings when a comebacker struck his elbow, but the bullpen initially answered the call. Yohan Ramirez and Evan Sisk combined for four scoreless innings before Dennis Santana and Gregory Soto made things much more interesting late. What looked like an easy win quickly became a nail-biter before the Pirates finally closed it out. Tyler and Doug break down the offensive breakout, Reynolds' big day, Jones' injury scare, the strong performances from Ramirez and Sisk, and another bullpen adventure that nearly turned a comfortable win into disaster. The Pirates looked dead offensively for most of the night before finally breaking through in the eighth inning against Colorado. Esmerlyn Valdez, Jared Triolo, Bryan Reynolds, and Nick Gonzales helped turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead, but the bullpen couldn't hold it. Tyler and Neil break down another frustrating loss, Bubba Chandler's strong outing, Don Kelly's bullpen decisions, the continued struggles of the relief corps, and whether this team is simply incapable of getting out of its own way. They also discuss Jake Mangum's costly baserunning mistake, the Pirates' inability to capitalize with the bases loaded in the ninth, and why Kyle Freeland shutting down this lineup is unacceptable. Hour 2 with Joe Starkey: Steelers reporter Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette joined the show. The Steelers are closing OTAs today and the young quarterbacks are getting all the reps. Ray thinks the Steelers are giving Will Howard every opportunity to win the backup job. Ray thinks Will Howard will end up on the team. Drew Allar has made "good progress" since starting his Steelers career. The Pirates have decisions to make on a multitude of players - Marcell Ozuna, Henry Davis, Dennis Santana, and Jared Triolo.
Does Mitch Keller belong in the bullpen? The Pirates have decisions to make on a multitude of players. Marcell Ozuna, Henry Davis, Dennis Santana, and Jared Triolo have all struggled. We discuss if we would keep those players on the roster or who we would move on from.
Tyler Callihan had an absolute legacy performance to fuel the Pirates' comeback against the Dodgers yesterday. However, Callihan is not in the lineup today because there is a lefty on the mound. Jared Triolo and Marcel Ozuna are both in the lineup tonight, as they both hit lefties well.

Jared Triolo and Marcel Ozuna are both in the lineup tonight, as they both hit lefties well. Bob Pompeani joined the show. Bob says that he will watch the World Cup from time to time this year. Bob does not think that the division is out of reach for the Pirates, and he thinks that the Pirates will be involved in the playoff race this year. Bob also thinks that Mitch Keller will put together a nice performance tonight against the Dodgers. He says that the Pirates have to wait for Marcel Ozuna to do more considering what they paid him this offseason. Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo joins the show. Ray thinks that the backup QB job is solely in Will Howard's hands, and there is nothing Mason Rudolph can do if Howard performs well enough to be the backup. Ray says that Drew Allar has been up and down this year, but there is still a lot of optimism surrounding him. Ray says that a Joey Porter Jr contract will be more expensive than Nick Herbig's $25 million.
Dorin Dickerson and Nicholas "Harry" Callas wonder what's making the Pirates continue to put Jared Triolo in the lineup consistently.
In this hour, Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson continue reacting to the Pirates' series win over the Houston Astros. Also, could prospect pitcher Seth Hernandez have a role on the team's MLB roster at some point this season? June 5, 2026, 7:00 Hour
The Pirates have called up Jhostynxon Garcia ahead of their series against the Cardinals. Garcia had a monster game in his return to Triple A and with the injury to Ryan O'Hearn, the Buccos have promoted their #4 overall prospect. How often should the Pirates trot him out there? He will hit 6th tonight and play in RF. What does the lineup look like with Garcia in it? Chris is not happy about Jared Triolo still being in the lineup. Would you rather see Billy Cook at 1B? It would be quite the time for Marcell Ozuna to step up.

The Pittsburgh Pirates were shut out 6-0 by the Philadelphia Phillies, completing a frustrating sweep in a weekend where just about everything went wrong. Paul Skenes had a rare off day, the offense had no answer for Zack Wheeler, and the Pirates' outfield situation became even harder to ignore. Tyler and Doug break down why this series felt so ugly, what went wrong for Skenes, how the Pirates were outscored 20-1 after the seventh inning on Friday, and why the lineup depth is now a major concern with Ryan O'Hearn expected to miss time. They also discuss Konnor Griffin's continued signs of growth, Brandon Lowe's near-home run, the bullpen, Dennis Santana, Yohan Ramirez, and why Jared Triolo in right field cannot be a long-term answer. The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped a late-night game to the San Francisco Giants, and while the offense had its issues, the bigger concern once again came from the middle relief group. Carmen Mlodzinski gave the Pirates six innings and kept them in the game, even if it was not the cleanest or most convincing start. But once the game turned to the bullpen, Justin Lawrence struggled to execute and the Giants opened things up. Anthony DiNardo and Tyler break down whether Don Kelly made the right move, why the blame cannot fall entirely on the manager, and why someone in this bullpen has to step up soon. They also discuss the Pirates' lineup against a left-handed starter, Jared Triolo leading off, Billy Cook and Nick Yorke getting starts, Oneil Cruz's baserunning mistake, and the bigger question of whether Ben Cherington needs to look outside the organization for middle relief help. Nick Gonzales has quietly forced his way into a bigger role for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and suddenly third base is not as simple as Jared Triolo returning from the injured list and taking the job back. On today's episode of OffBeat, Alex Stumpf looks at the Pirates' third base situation, why Gonzales has earned real playing time, and why Triolo's Gold Glove defense still matters for a team with serious defensive issues elsewhere on the field. The conversation goes beyond offense, digging into how the Pirates can best support a young pitching staff, especially with outfield defense becoming a real concern. Is Nick Gonzales the right everyday answer at third base? Should Jared Triolo be closer to a 50/50 split? And how much should defense matter when the Pirates finally have more offense in the lineup? Rafael Flores and Endy Rodriguez are heating up. Flores is on a six-game hitting streak. Rodriguez has hit .319 the last two weeks. Joe thinks if Bart didn't have a good weekend, but might have been let go this week. Don Kelly was noncommittal about Nick Gonzales being the everyday third baseman over Jared Triolo. We think Nick Gonzales has to be in the lineup every day. Joe thinks Mitch Keller has been the Pirates best pitcher so far.
Hour 4 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: Rafael Flores and Endy Rodriguez are heating up. The Pirates are averaging 5.26 runs per game through Saturday and would be the highest average for the Pirates since 1930.
What does the Pirates third base situation look like when Jared Triolo is back? The Pirates have played Nick Yorke more than we expected. Matt Clement doesn't think Henry Davis is in a horrible spot. Davis swings for the fences every time but is using the whole field more. It's not as big of a deal because the team's hitting. The Pirates have problems in the bullpen.
This injury report is brought to you by Shenderovich, Shenderovich and Fishman.
The Pirates took the home opener in dramatic fashion, beating the Orioles 5-4 at PNC Park, and there was no bigger story than Konnor Griffin's MLB debut. Neil and Jim break down the atmosphere from the field, Griffin's huge first RBI double, and what the moment felt like inside the stadium as nearly 39,000 fans welcomed him to Pittsburgh. They also dive into Mitch Keller grinding through six innings, Jared Triolo's big night at third base, strong moments from Henry Davis, Ryan O'Hearn, Oneil Cruz, and Brandon Lowe, plus a quick check-in on Marcell Ozuna's slow start. The wait is over. On this episode of OffBeat, Alex Stumpf breaks down Konnor Griffin's long-awaited MLB debut and why this moment feels so much bigger than a normal call-up. From the pressure on a 19-year-old to the Pirates' need for impact on the left side of the infield, Alex explains why this is one of the biggest hitter debuts in franchise history. Post-Gazette Pirates insiders Colin Beazley and Noah Hiles react to the news that Konnor Griffin is being promoted for his MLB debut and the Pirates' home opener. What are Colin and Noah's expectations for the 19-year-old? Will it take some time for him to adjust? Is a Rookie of the Year campaign likely? Where does he fit into the Pirates lineup? What does this mean for guys like Jared Triolo and Nick Gonzales? Why didn't Griffin just start the year in MLB? And does this signal GM Ben Cherington's desire to win now? Our duo tackles those topics and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
We want to see the Pirates put a consistent lineup out there with Konnor Griffin. Jared Triolo has a better glove, but Nick Gonzales is hitting over .300. The Pirates lineup is significantly better than last year and puts players in a good position to be successful.
The Pirates are promoting No. 1 prospect Konnor Griffin to the majors. Jason still thinks a deal can get done and both sides like each other. Jared Triolo adds defensive value on the bench bouncing around. Jason doesn't think Griffin was in a great place at the start of the year and was not being himself. Griffin corrected the mistakes he was making at AAA.
Cruz and Bryan Reynolds collided with each other on a ball that should have been Cruz's. Bubba Chandler has electric stuff. Matt thinks the sky's the limit, but there are going to be days like this. Jared Triolo is a lighting rod the fan base isn't happy with.
Hour 2 with Bob Pompeani: Oneil Cruz had three hits, including two home runs, against Cincinnati on Tuesday. Jake Mangum has been receiving a lot of fanfare and improved in his late 20s. Jason thinks Cruz is capable of the same thing. Brandon Lowe and Ryan O'Hearn are both not in the lineup today and Jason doesn't really agree with it, but the Pirates are trying to give guys rest days. We hear what Mike McCarthy had to say at NFL owners meetings.

Post-Gazette Pirates insiders Colin Beazley and Noah Hiles react to the club's 1-3 start to the MLB season, which has included frustrating losses to the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds. This show is presented by FanDuel. Can players including Oneil Cruz, Jared Triolo, Henry Davis, Bryan Reynolds and Marcell Ozuna get on track at the plate with the home opener looming Friday back at PNC Park? Can we be encouraged by the early bullpen results from names including Yohan Ramirez, Denis Santana and Gregory Soto? And what needs to happen for manager Don Kelly's squad to build momentum heading into the home opener, with Paul Skenes on the mound in the Wednesday finale against the Reds? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

The guys spend time on Braxton Ashcraft's encouraging six-inning outing, the bullpen's solid work from Isaac Mattson and Justin Lawrence, and the bigger concerns surrounding the lineup construction. They also discuss rough nights from Oneil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds, and Henry Davis, while highlighting the only Pirates who really got anything going: Ryan O'Hearn and Brandon Lowe. Alex Stumpf reacts to another frustrating night for the Pirates offense and asks the question nobody wanted to be asking this early: are we already seeing the same problems again? On this episode of OffBeat, Alex breaks down the ugly lack of production, the struggles with runners in scoring position, and why strong starts from the pitching staff are being wasted. He also digs into the early at-bats from Bryan Reynolds, Oneil Cruz, Marcell Ozuna, Henry Davis, Jared Triolo, Spencer Horwitz, Nick Gonzales, Ryan O'Hearn, and Brandon Lowe, pointing out what looks real, what might just be small sample noise, and what should have Pirates fans concerned. If the Pirates are going to contend, the offense has to do more than this. Fat Heads in South Side is closing its doors – Mullsy's favorite place. Another sign that South Side is going downhill. Should the Pirates have traded Paul Skenes for a massive return last season? Donny Football Debrief – Some rule changes established around the NFL.

Doug & DiNardo wrap up the NS9 trip down to Bradenton by discussing the 2 games that were played today. Bubba Chandler started for the Pirates split squad playin in Dunedin vs. the Blue Jays while Braxton Ashcraft started at LECOM facing the Phillies. Both pitchers put up a solid performance to build on this spring. The offense was pretty light but some players to highlight were Ryan O'Hearn, Jake Mangum, Jared Triolo, and Duce Gourson. The bullpen let down both teams, but it was mostly by pitchers who are much further away from making the big league roster. Isaac Mattson and Brandon Bidois both pitchers well in their time on the mound. We also interviewed Braxton Ashcraft as well as Joey Bart. We also provide Don Kelly's presser today before each game.
