The Ridgeview Podcast is a weekly podcast hosted and produced by the staff, leaders, and members of Ridgeview Bible Church. It focuses on Theology, contemporary issues, church life, and other mildly helpful but quirky and nerdy stuff.
Evan and Burt are joined by Christopher, to talk about his book, "The Big Story."
While Amy and Maya are walking around town, they stumble upon Evan, sitting outside the local Mcdonalds. They decide to walk over and say hello, but as they get closer they notice he appears to be deep in thought. The ladies ask him how he's doing, and he let's them know that he's struggling with a very difficult conundrum. He's already had lunch, but he really wants another cheeseburger. When asked why he would want another, Evan responds by explaining to them the unlimited power and energy that it could provide to him. Maya and Amy shake their heads at one another, and remind him of the consequences of eating too much of something. Evan assures them that he knows the need for self control, but that it can be so hard sometimes. The ladies suggest that they take an in depth look at self control and look at how the world views it, versus what the Bible says about it. Why it's important for believers to have self control. Also, what are some good ways to practice it. Audio Source: George Lucas (1983). Return of the Jedi [M. Hamill, J. Williams, B. Burtt] On Return of the Jedi [Audio File]. After power walking up "C" Hill, Maya and Ann stop to enjoy the view and take a water break. Unfortunately their enjoyment is short lived as they hear a terrible noise coming from behind them. They turn around to see Evan huffing and wheezing as he jogs up to the top of the hill, and falls to his knees. Maya and Ann rush over to help Evan up, and offer him some water. Once he's able to catch to his breath, Maya asks him what happened. He informs them that after enjoying his regular order at McDonalds, three cheeseburgers. He thought it'd be a good idea to work off the extra calories and stay in shape, by running up "C" Hill. The two women inform him that trying to conquer a big challenge like that, without prepping beforehand, can be very risky. Evan nods his head in response, but asks how he should prep for getting older. Because eventually his body won't be able to go run up a hill after a large and happy meal. Maya and Ann tell him that there's actually a difference between what the secular world says about aging, and what the Bible says about it. But that it's good for him to start prepping now, and eventually he can share what he learns with others. "This is a Jesus Podcast, not a Math Podcast"
While Pastor Mike is prepping his sermon notes for Romans 3, Kristen practices her CSI Chadron skills by looking for a blood trail. After several minutes of unsucessful searching, Kristen finally finds the start of the trail. She excitedly yells to Pastor Mike, "It goes this way!" But is startled when Evan jumps out in front of her, and responds, "This is the way!" After calming down from the frights, Kristen remembers a story about blood that she read in Romans 3. She offers to teach Evan and Pastor Mike about it, but Pastor Mike asks her if she could rap it instead. Not wanting to show off her singing skills she learned from Shania Twain, Kristen offers to speak it in Italian. Pastor Mike counters, by asking her to speak it in Russian. Feeling left out, Evan jumps in, and suggests they just do a podcast episode about it. Everyone agrees, and they discuss the context of the passage, define difficult terms, and look at what God, Christ, and man are all doing in the passage. "This is a Jesus Podcast, not a Math Podcast"
When Evan shows up late to the meat shop, Cole threatens to fire him. But his phone goes off before he's able to, and Evan threatens to fire him instead, for not silencing the phone. Luckily, Kassy jumps in to calm the situation, and reminds them that they both need the job for income. Cole and Evan agree, but are unsure of what to do with their income. Cole suggests they buy some haying equipment, but Evan wants to go get some cheeseburgers instead. Once again, Kassy jumps in and suggests they look through God's Word. That way they can get a Biblical perspective on money, understand how to be good stewards of it, and learn the heart attitude behind giving. Music Source: The O'Jays (1974). For the Love of Money [K. While delivering the mail, Evan stumbles upon Burt and Sam. He realizes they're talking about all the crazy upsets in the march madness tournament, and wants to join in the fun. After nodding along for several seconds, Evan, comments on how he saw the purple team do really well at dribbling the soccer ball down the rink and kicking it in the net for 7 points. Unfortunately for Evan, in his haste to join in the conversation, he forgot that he didn't know anything about basketball or the tournament. And from the confused looks on both Burt's and Sam's faces, he's able to deduce that they figured it out as well. So, in an attempt to save face, Evan questions if sports are even that important anyways. This leads to a deep theological discussion on what the Bible says about sports, what sports can show you about your inner heart, and the need for a believer to keep their priorities straight. In an effort to prepare for their conference that has happened, is happening, and will happen, Sam and Burt dig through different papers/articles on the topic of Hell. As they're researching, Evan notices that they're reading texts written by a bunch of old dead guys. After finding a statement that they disagree with, the trio wonder how best to interpret authors from the past. Following a lengthy and illuminating discussion, Sam suggests they record an episode on what they've learned about Hell. Together, Evan, Burt, and Sam, discuss some of the misconceptions of Hell, look at the question of whether or not God is present there, and explain how to think about Hell correctly. On this special episode of The Ridgeview Podcast, Evan is joined by the world famous Pastor Michael Gordon Johnson, and Chadron's hip local DJ Jayden. Before starting the discussion, Jayden, throws down some sick beats and scratches some old records, in an attempt to get Evan to change the intro song. Unfortunately, as soon as he finishes, Pastor Michael gets up and opens the door, and yells at the editor (who happened to be running past), "To cut that part of the recording out." Proceeding on to the discussion, the trio look at the importance of deacons, what the actual office of deaconship looks like, and the blessing of being a deacon. While working on his house, Evan enjoys some manly grunts. He proceeds to measure once, before cutting a board for the frame. However, Evan finds that the framing is not too agreeable, and the board ends up being short. After letting out his frustration by yelling at the walls, Evan decides to go outside and try to cool off. Unfortunately, his neighbors are outside as well, and they happily greet him as he steps outside. In an effort to bury his emotions, Evan tries to bring out his inner Spock, before approaching the neighbor's wood fence. Sadly, his Spock persona fails, as Logan and Maya had heard him yelling earlier. Luckily for Evan, Logan had just stopped by to talk about emotions with Maya, and they suggest he join them. Together the trio discuss what the Bible says about emotions, how to deal with emotions properly, and even look at the physical aspects of emotions. "This is a Jesus Podcast, not a Math Podcast"

When Evan is unable to think of a joke for the sponsor, Sam offers to lend one that he came up with. Unfortunately, Pastor Mike and Evan judge the joke as too nerdy and go a different route. The judging of the joke causes the trio to think about the concept of judgment, and the upcoming conference that is focused on the subject. Together the trio discuss why Christians should study judgment in the Bible, the importance of judgment in the Gospel, and the connection between judgment and mercy. Well there ain't no story like the man who got ate by a whale. A tale as old as time. Full of pirates, fish slappers, and of course twisted cheese curls. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. Our story starts with Kristen, who was busy not doing anything. Along came a friend who wanted to help lead a Bible study of the book of Jonah. Kristen suggested that they could daydream about singing vegetables instead, but gave in after her friend insisted. Several ladies came to the study, including Kassy. Upon completion of the study, both Kassy and Kristen were left with many thoughts and questions. And what better way to think things through, then with a podcast? Together with Evan, the ladies look at the setting/background of Jonah, some difficulties of studying the book, and what they learned from their studies. But will they answer the most important question of all time? Are tomatoes a fruit or a vegetable? "This is a Jesus Podcast, not a Math Podcast"
While skipping through the tulips and enjoying life in the sunlight, Abagail practiced her scripture memorization. After finishing her 3rd lap around the field, she thought about how music might help her even more. So she ran to Pastor Mike's house to see if he'd join her, with his ukulele. Unfortunately, Pastor Mike wasn't home, but Maya suggested Abagail should share her experiences on memorizing scripture with the podcast. Joined by Evan, the trio discuss why memorizing scripture is important, whether or not you should take the translation into consideration, and different ways to practice memorizing. "This is a Jesus Podcast, not a Math Podcast"

Once they finish reading, the trio define what an apology is, discuss the difference between a bad apology and true repentance and reconciliation, and what the heart attitude should be when asking for forgiveness. Worrying that they might be nervous about recording an episode on anxiety. Evan sings a wonderful country song about dirt roads, to help Logan and Maya relax. From the "occasional" dad/pastor joke, to the rich culture of the Mongolian Empire. And from the great halls of Tolkien literature, to the dangers of a sweet and innocent strawberry. The Ridgeview Podcast covered a wide array of issues and topics in season 2. Even though all of these episodes may have helped, Pastor Mike and the crew, become "experts" at podcasting. It's plausible that there may have been some problems and big booms along the way. Leading to a need for some parts to be rejected, and substituted with a new part. So pull up a seat on the cry couch, and try to keep your popcorn down. As we take a look through some of the highlights/low-lights of Seasons 2.

But, just as they're about to hit play, Pastor Mike calls. He explains to them that, yes ogres are like onions, but their goal is to use the idea of the onion to help understand difficult passages. By taking time to learn the language, they were able to share and teach God's Word to their tribe. But, even out in the jungles of Papua New Guinea, the enemy will do everything he can to attack God's people. So always remember to put on the full armor of God, as God works through His church, to help fulfill the Great Commision.

The only way to find out is to grab your binoculars for some camel watching, pull up a seat on the cry couch, and listen along to this week's special episode.

Before the Christmas break, Pastor Mike, and Maya, sit down with Pastor Tunde, from Nigeria. His testimony shows that Christians shouldn't be surprised by persecution, that there is grace in persecution, and the reminder that you're never alone when suffering for Christ. All of this points Pastor Mike, Pastor Tunde, and Maya to the question of, what are you willing to sacrifice for your faith? What is there to fear on this Earth, when God can bring a Christian all the way from a persecuted land in Africa, to be a pastor in rural, Nebraska?
