Everyday we make decisions. The big decisions are obvious such as college, marriage, divorce, career paths, having kids or buying a house. Most of us put significant time and effort into evaluating all the "what if's" before making a choice. However, often times it is the small decisions that can change our lives forever. The decision to do what is right rather than what is easy, or what satisfies a tempting desire to get something we should not have or do something that we know might be harmful, can change our paths for the rest of our lives. For Opal Singleton, a small decision made on a lonely night in December 1966, changed the trajectory of her life. She was new to California and struggling to find her way, when one night she called "Dial a Prayer" and that connected her to Rev. Richard and Marsha Huls. These folks were and are simply amazing. They took her in to their lives and it began a 58 year friendship. Over the years Rev Huls and Marsha were Opal's true family and they became serious and dependable advisors to Million Kids. On June 16, the Huls' family experienced a major tragedy as their home caught fire at 2 AM. Marsha did not survive. Rev. Huls is in critical condition in the hospital with burns to his face, hands, chest and lungs. At this writing he appears that he will survive but cannot communicate. Please pray for this family. Rev. Huls was a minister, a Navy Chaplain, A Police Dept Chaplain and served several care homes as a chaplain. They are some of the most giving people on earth. For Opal Singleton, that fateful night of making the decision to call a stranger and ask for help, changed the trajectory of her life forever. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE FAMILY OF REV.

Today, I speak with Shaun Huls, Director of High Performance at NFL Football team, the Cleveland Browns. Shaun has worked for 30 years in college sport, military special operations, and professional football in America. In the conversation, we discuss: - sports science and human performance, - we talk about the myths of physical and mental performance, - skill acquisition and skill transition, - staying a white belt everyday, - the origin of one of the NCAA's first strength and conditioning programs in the country, - taking care of the primary "human weapon system," as Shaun describes it to me, - on how you don't have to "get ready" if you "stay ready" - willing oneself to be a great player off of one thing: a routine - removing the word "potential" from your name - growing beyond your mentor - how your primary responsibility on any high performing team is acquiring skills and knowledge, and executing that skill: slow, then at speed, then at speed when fatigued, then at speed when fatigued, and under pressure, and doing so consistently. Please enjoy my conversation with the Cleveland Browns' Director of High Performance, my friend, Shaun Huls.

A conversation dedicated to wellness Dr. Geoff Huls was seriously injured physically and emotionally in an automobile collision in 1999. This crash caused multiple contusions, fractures and killed two of his friends. A broken back and fractured leg forced him to walk with crutches followed by several months using a cane. It was a tragic part of his life that will forever be an influence on who he is and what he stands for. His wellness journey started with accepting that he was not invincible. It sent him on a quest for knowledge and eventually led him to Chiropractic College, where he was introduced to Dr. James Chestnut and the Wellness Certification he holds through Life West & the International Chiropractic Association. The First21 was created to be your first steps on a lifetime journey of health and wellness. Based on the principle that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit, the First21 works by making things simple. It splits the complexity of wellness into doable health challenges to be carried out over habit-forming periods of time. These challenges are meant to be repeated to help you continually improve, maintain or even to get you back on track. The First21 is your friend. It's your simple, healthy, achievable new habit. And it's just within your reach! Discussions - His life changing experience and how he overcame his own health crisis - What does it mean to be 100% of your 100% - It's socially accepted to be sick - Why unrealistic goal setting is sabotaging your success - In order to truly be “well” you have to eat, move, and think appropriately at the same time for a period of time - How to combat our own “tendencies” - Get the “Basics” of the Healthy Living down - The benefit of journaling your "sugar" - 9 out of 10 kids are not eating enough vegetables - tomatoes and potatoes are vegetable staples - Lifespan vs functional life span - Gratitude challenges to improve to positive outlook on life
My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a lady who is building her dream, whilst helping others to do the same. Yes she has mastered the skills of the old leap of faith, and now is sharing those skills. She is the founder the Women's Dreamvision Network where she helps new female entrepreneurs build and market their businesses while providing a behind-the-scenes look into how others brought their dreams to life. Yep, she is the wizard allowing us all (at least the females of the world) to look behind the curtain of what it takes to build a business. But this isn't a success that is full realised. This is work in progress, so its a delight to have another guest who is really flexing the old hustle muscle to build something new. And can share with us the struggles, issues and successes that are fresh in her life. As she says "After working in politics, marketing, and communications for more than 15 years, I focused on a career change last summer. Deep down, I knew there was so much more I could offer and accomplish with my skill set. Though I had many ideas, after much soul searching I started coaching new women entrepreneurs. Women have so much to share with the world and incredible knowledge to pass on, but they are also extremely strapped for time, resources, and, unfortunately, they often lack confidence. I love doing my part in helping them break the cycle and get their gifts out to the world." So she drilled down, found her niche, looked for a solution to a problem and went to work. And I suppose as most people find, her ideal avatar looks to have trned out to be herself, as with free small children, a husband, and extended family she certainly must have times when she puts her hands in the air and says "Give me a break for five minutes......i cant be there for everyone!!" So what made her want to create her own destiny at a time, when so many other ladies would have said "We need to wait until the kids grow up a bit first?" And where did she find the confidence to step out to the front, when her business is still a a baby in the great scheme of things? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots, with the one and only Michelle Huls Rice
