As we conclude our series on the discipleship culture of our church, we look at what it means to be a Missional Community and approach to reaching the lost. We looked deeper into the Great Commision and the way Christ sends out His disciples as our template for reaching the lost. We were reminded of Christ's authority that enables us and gives us the confidence to win the lost. In addition we saw how we must be intentional with our lives, having discipleship as the purpose for our relationships with outsiders. Finally we were reminded that we don't need to evangelise alone, but rather we have a community to lean on for support. We must make the Great Commision our mission to truly be a community that seeks to see lives changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVENIn Matthew 6 we see Jesus demonstrate for his disciples (both those with him at the time and for those to come like us) how to pray…Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.Your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as it is in heaven…ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN: Aligning OurselvesStarts with RepentanceBefore we can align anything around us with heaven, we must first make sure we're aligned!Isaiah 59:1-2 (ESV) Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. The work of redemption was completed by Christ Jesus but His offer of grace must be accepted by faith. Those already following Christ still live with a sin nature in a sinful world. As such, sin will always be a threat to prayer's effectiveness and must be addressed. ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN: Aligning Ourselves…Prioritizes Kingdom Over ComfortIsaiah 58:3-11 (ESV) Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure, and oppress all your workers. Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with a wicked fist. Fasting like yours this day will not make your voice to be heard on high. Is such the fast that I choose, a day for a person to humble himself? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Will you call this a fast, and a day acceptable to the LORD? "Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, 'Here I am.' If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.Fasting is NOT…Asceticism: self-denial or self-punishment for the purpose of attaining status or favor with God.Strategic leverage to persuade or force God into action (i.e. hunger strike)Religious ritual or hypocritical showmanshipFasting is…An exercise of control over our mental, emotional, and physical craving to chase one self-gratification after another.A time of concentrated, intentional engagement with the Holy Spirit through prayer, meditation on scripture, and praise.A refocus on the priorities that God has called us to rather in lieu of self-fulfillment.ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN: Aligning CircumstancesAccurately identifying what SHOULD BE compared to what currently IS.Does scripture support the need for change? What change will bring the most glory to God?What's in the way of that happening?ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN: Aligning CircumstancesDeclare WarEph 6:12 (ESV) For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.Spiritual warfare is not optional. God's best on this earth is under attack so we can choose to fight and win or we can choose to give territory to the enemy.“The only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing” - unknownIgnoring the gap between what is and what should be is a dereliction of The Great Commision that Jesus gave us.Matthew 28:18-20 “...teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”Luke 10:9,17-20 Jesus sends out the 72John 17:18-20 Jesus prays for all believersWe fight from a place of victory, but we must still fight.Anticipate Resistance:Luke 8:28b-29a (ESV) "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me." For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man.Other Biblical examples of pushback: Mark 8:23-25 Jesus lays hands on blind man twiceMark 9:17-29 Disciples unable to cast out demonThe enemy will try to convince us to accept “what is” whenever we don't see results.Don't give in to, “I guess that's just the way it's supposed to be”, “maybe this is God's plan”, or “This doesn't work”.Surround yourself with faith filled people who will join your fight - Who you're around matters!Mark 6:4-6 Jesus unable to perform many miracles in his home town due to unbeliefReturn to the Lord for clarity to identify what's “off” and adjust Fight with Expectation:1 John 5:14-15 (ESV) And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him Mark 9:17-29 (ESV) “‘If you can'! All things are possible for one who believes.”Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”We may be unclear on when or how, but the question is never, “If?”Approach the King with confidence. We're fighting for His will to be done, so like a general that's been given an objective:We can ask for the resources neededIdentify the battle fronts we need support onPresent our plan to the King for approval or revisionWe will relentlessly pursue God's best until we see His will done on earth as it is in heaven.

This month, in our 2 part-series we are exploring the topic of biblical leadership through the basis of The Great Commision (layed out in Matthew 28: 16-20) and what that looks like for us as followers of Christ! Part 2 is out on April 11th! Why do we lead? Why should we want to lead others? Why is this important? How should we lead? With what mindset?
In the first episode of season 1, pastor and author Jacob Tanner dives into Isaiah 54, and looks at the promises of God, the Great Commision, and the Gospel that is fuel for missions and taking dominion.Watch all of our videos and subscribe to our channel for the latest content >HereHere

TJBHpodcast@gmail.comOur conversation takes a deep dive into evangelism, obedience, and the divine orchestration of Scripture, casting a new light on the stories you thought you knew. Discover with us how the journey of Joshua and the Israelites reflects our modern spiritual endeavors and how the narratives of the Old Testament symbolize the fullness of God's nature, magnificently fulfilled in Christ. We grapple with weighty themes such as God's exclusive reservation of the Promised Land for His people, and the roles of believers as spiritual scouts in a redemption-hungry world. Justin shares gems of wisdom on these complex topics, providing refreshing insights into evangelism and the strategic, often challenging, obedience required for spiritual conquest.Support the show
Inspired by the adventures stories of his youth as well as a “radical” interpretation of Jesus' “Great Commision” , 26-year-old American John Chau set off to the distant North Sentinel Island to tell the people there–supposedly completely isolated and putatively unfriendly to visitors–of his Savior. Directors Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss (Boys State) join Mike to discuss not only what drove John, but who enabled him like “Pastor Bobby” and the evangelizing group All Nations. And they also explore those who either cautioned him in the moment, like John's own father, who warned him away from colonial and imperialist thinking. As well as those who, through hard-won insight gained through experience, can provide a critical perspective now, like historian Adam Goodheart and missionary and linguist Dan Everett. In the end, McBain's and Moss's film suggests, in imagining our encounter with the “untouched” other, we are telling a story about ourselves, and a lost world that never existed but that we persist in pursuing. "The Mission" is now showing in New York in Los Angeles. It will be opening more widely in the US and Canada over the month of October. Today's episode is a conversation I had recently on Knoxville radio station, Joy620AM with the Church Mechanic. My old friend, Rev. Pat Polis hosts the show and we talked about proactive disciple making in the local church and how we live into the Great Commision. Pat and I will talk about the challenges pastors face in their churches today and how we are called to address them. We both agree that if we live into the command Jesus gave us to make disciples, this will solve most of the issues we face in the local church! But how do we truly make more disciples? I will discuss with Pat my strategy for proactive Disciple Making and what it can look like in your church. A message on the Great Commision
We are a family on mission together. "What does Athens have to do with Jerusalem?" a church father from the ancient past once asked. In other words.... What does the intellectual life of the mind have to do with Gospel proclamation? Is it necessary for the believer in Christ to know intellectual arguments and defenses for the Christian faith? Do we really need to know logic and reason to be able to present the Gospel clearly to our unbelieving neighbors? Do we have to become scholars to be good witnesses for Christ? On this two-part episode of Apologetics Profile we sit down with Professor of Philosophy at Dallas Baptist University, Dr. Travis Dickinson, to discuss a few of these questions as well as his new book Logic and the Way of Jesus - Thinking Critically and Christianly (https://uhop.me/LogicJesus). Travis argues that though one need not become a scholar in order to love God with all of our minds, we are called to think logically and reasonably about our faith and not neglect the gift of the intellect with which God has equipped all of us. The life of the mind, Travis argues, is an important part of how we worship God and fulfill the Great Commision. On part one Travis talks about what he sees as a disconnect between Jesus and formal logic in contemporary evangelicalism and how important it is for us as believers to know both what God has made and what He has inspired to be written in order that we may properly love God and our neighbors.Travis Dickinson is the author of three books with one more on the way. His most recent book, Logic and the Way of Jesus, discusses logic and critical thinking modeled in the life and ministry of Jesus. And his forthcoming book, Wandering Towards God: Finding Faith in Doubts and Big Questions (IVP, October 2022), argues that leaning into our questions and doubts can lead to even greater faith as we discover truth and knowledge. You'll also hear the good news and bad news regarding the current status of the Great Commission as of 2022. Matthew 28:18-20 says 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
When Jesus gave the great commission, he instructed us to make disciples of every nation. Much of the focus in these efforts is to make disciples of Christianity or our own personal belief system. But what is our true responsibility as Christians?
After a year and a half, we are in our last week over the Luke series. Pastor Austin preaches over Luke 24: 44-53, Jesus' ascension into heaven. We see in the text that Jesus' last words to his closest friends the disciples are a call to go to the end of the streets and the ends of the earth to proclaim the Gospel. Austin shows us that this call is the same today as it was back then.Want to connect with us? Text "citylight' to 94000! or go to https://linktr.ee/Citylightlincoln

Maya, joins Pastor Mike, to help co-host this special episode of The Ridgeview Podcast. Today they are joined by Bob and Noby Kennell. As lifelong missionaries, Bob and Noby are happy to share their journey from the United States of America, to the forests of Papua New Guinea. They describe their time learning the new culture of a previously unreached people group, the experience of learning a language with no written form, and even what it's like to raise children while out on the mission field. By taking time to learn the language, they were able to share and teach God's Word to their tribe. But, even out in the jungles of Papua New Guinea, the enemy will do everything he can to attack God's people. So always remember to put on the full armor of God, as God works through His church, to help fulfill the Great Commision.
