Author, speaker, coach and professional cyclist Abi Robins reveals their unexpected discovery how bicycling creates an opportunity for deep spiritual work. Abi leads as an Enneagram 8, and discloses how they're learning to embrace the vulnerability that cycling elicits. Abi is the author of The Conscious Enneagram, an incredibly useful and practical handbook for leveraging the wisdom of the Enneagram to create personal and collective transformation. They are discovering that the transformative work of the Enneagram shows up in unexpected places like bike riding. Queer lives have been seriously attacked in U.S. legislature lately (and, always). The voices of those that do not value or respect trans lives have been loud, and this week, we want to learn how to be better allies, create safer spaces in cycling, and ultimately - be louder. That's why we welcome Abi Robins - founder of Queer Gravel. Abi shares their experience of being non-binary in the gravel space, and in Texas as a whole. The trio discusses ways that various races can work to be more inclusive, and the barriers that queer people face in cycling. Touching on topics like anti-trans legislature, non-binary race categories, and the emotional labor of queer folks - Abi delves deep into how we can all work to create safer spaces. Abi Robins competed in Unbound Gravel this year as the first finisher of the non-binary category. In this interview, they talk to Payson about being the only person to compete in the category, how that knowledge fueled their ride, and how they hope other races will follow suit. They also talk about the struggles of the race itself, from helping fellow riders with spare co2, to a chance mid-race encounter with Lael Wilcox. Molly Cameron calls into the show to ask Abi an all-important Unbound question, and Abi and Payson discuss their mutual fascination with the mental aspects of long races, especially for the vast majority of riders who are not competing for a first place finish.

Hi Friends! Today on TOL I sat down with fellow Enneagram 8, Abi Robins. Abi is a trained Enneagram Teacher & Yoga Therapist in Austin, TX. Abi is the author of the book, The Conscious Enneagram. I invited Abi on the show to talk about all things Enneagram 8-otherwise known as The Challenger. Of all 9 types, Eights are one of the most misunderstood numbers on the Enneagram. We can be seen as bossy, intimidating, or b*&chy when in reality, a healthy 8 is a leader, crusader for social justice, and champion of the underdog. During our conversation Abi shares what it’s like to be Queer & Non-Binary as an Enneagram 8, the value of authenticity as eight, and the role of intensity within the eights. Abi talks about their first introduction to the Enneagram, how quickly it took to identify their type, and how they have incorporated Enneagram wisdom into their teachings. Although Abi and I are both 8’s on the Enneagram and have many similarities, I found it fascinating to see the differences in our sub-types (Abi is a one-one dominant and I am a social eight). I loved learning from another Enneagram Eight on how they view the world. If you’ve ever talked to someone who is the same type as you, it’s an immediate reminder that you are not alone or crazy in how you see the world! Seriously no joke this might be our best enneagram episode we've ever done! This week's guests are two spiritual enneagram leaders/ podcasters/ authors/ coaches and just all around bad ass self aware enneagram 8 wing sevens! This week we welcome Abi Robins and Kevin Garcia! We deep dive enneagram eights, but we also have an enlightening conversation about queering the enneagram and what marginalized folks have to teach the world about the enneagram and about spirituality and self knowledge.
Make way for the Enneagram Eights! On this week’s episode, we get to chat with not one, but two experts about the steely armor and tender insides that make up The Challengers, as they’re sometimes called. Sarajane Case of Enneagram & Coffee helps us unpack the hallmark characteristic of an Eight—their strength—and reveals that an Eight’s strength typically stems from childhood happenings that trigger the notion that they have to take care of themselves, which they can also wrap around their loved ones and those in need. This protective instinct means that Eights aren’t intimidated by opposition, but they do fear being betrayed or controlled—and when that happens, it can appear that Eights don’t need a shoulder to lean on. But, as Sarajane shows us, in order to love an Eight well, they need to see strength in us so that they can release the heavy responsibility they feel to carry the world’s weight on their shoulders. Abi Robins of Conscious Enneagram shares their expertise as not only an Eight themselves, but also as a teacher of The Narrative Enneagram. Abi also breaks down a new-to-us Enneagram term called “subtypes,” of which there are three—self-preservation, one-to-one, and social—and shows how these subtypes affect the way our Enneagram numbers play out in the world. Abi opens up about the incredible resilience that Eights possess and vulnerably shares what type Eight growth looks like to someone with a marginalized identity. Abi explains that a heated exchange that may look like an argument to some types is just a problem-solving, connective conversation to an Eight, and how that willingness to engage with an Eight, even when it’s messy, is the key to unlocks an Eight’s trust. Make sure you listen all the way through the hear how composer Ryan O’Neal (AKA Sleeping at Last) created a piece as strong as the Eights are, with a little touch of vulnerability that those who are close to Eights are lucky enough to glimpse. * * * Rothy's | Check out all the stylish and sustainable shoes (and amazing bags!) at rothys.com/forthelove BetterHelp | Get 10% off your first month at betterhelp.com/forthelove Stamps.com | Start your 4-week trial (plus, get free postage and a digital scale) at stamps.com, and enter FORTHELOVE
Here is our full uncut interview with Abi Robins from Conscious Construction! This interview is a longer version of the interview we recently featured in our 100th episode where we interviewed nearly 30 different people and asked them to reflect on how they are experiencing quarantine through the lens of their type. Abi teaches this stuff for a living and really brought the big eight energy to the interview! We can't wait to have them on the pod again someday for a longer convo! Oh! also we were recording this episode outside so you can hear a lawn mower in the background! Maybe it will just make it feel like you're having a nice casual spring conversation outside with Abi on a back deck? That's what it felt like for us? Sounds like some nice enneagram seven reframing, right!? Hope you enjoy this interview!

On today’s episode, the squad will be discussing the enneagram with local enneagram expert Abi Robins! Abi is a yoga teacher, yoga therapist, enneagram coach, and fellow podcaster over at Conscious Construction! Abi helps people incorporate both practices (yoga + enneagram) into healing and growth. We asked Abi to join us today to give us and our listeners an intro to enneagram and more importantly how it can be helpful in our parenting and relationships. As you can imagine, 3 mamas running one show may need a little help navigating the dynamics of not only friendship but also the ins and outs of a working relationship. Today we hope to explore a bit around each of our TKS types and get feedback on how to share space outside of our own worldviews. Today, I sit down with a very special guest, myself! This is the first of hopefully many “teaching/sharing” episodes of Conscious Construction. In this episode I talk about how the patterns we fall into with those around us are more like subtle dances that we do, and what to do when the dances are no longer serving us. Let me know what you think about this format for the show and if you want more or less of it! Also, I talk about why I launched my Patreon page and how you can help me keep Conscious Construction growing and improving! Things I talk about in this episode: My Church!
