The Enneagram is a psychological and spiritual map… and a fascinating predictor of what motivates you, drives your responses to others and shows you where your edges are as you learn to be your best self. Who doesn't want to have insight into themselves and others? Who can tolerate a ‘peek behind the curtain' of their own blind spots? As I say in our conversation, “I think this is an interesting topic because what we know about ourselves and about how we interact makes such a difference for what we bring to the world and what we bring to our lives… and how we live is how we die.” There are many books, websites and ways to take an Enneagram quiz and find out your ‘type.' We're kicking off Season 7 with a topic I've not yet discussed on the show: Holy Ideas.  Holy Ideas remind us of the powerful spiritual roots of the Enneagram. They are great, universal, spiritual truths that we forgot or lost touch with, as the ego created an overlay of personality. It's a challenging concept, but today's guest, renowned Enneagram teacher Renée Rosario walks us through the Holy Ideas for each type and reminds us to “relax with awareness into this idea that there is a power greater than us, that is actually taking care of all the things we think we have to take care of in our type.” Renée Rosario is a Core Faculty member of The Narrative Enneagram and a transpersonal, body-centered psychotherapist in Boulder, CO. She has facilitated workshops and classes for over 20 years and loves to work in the Narrative Tradition where all are students and teachers of one another. Renée has been a mindfulness instructor at Naropa University and a peacemaker trained in contemplative social action through the Peacemaker Institute. Her upcoming two classes, Narrative Enneagram Intensive Part 1 and Narrative Enneagram Learning Community will take place on August 4-6 in Menlo Park, CA or you can attend online.  Learn more at www.narrativeenneagram.org.

Today's episode is dedicated to all things Enneagram typing and why I think tests are bullshit. I don't go into the narrative way of typing someone, which is done conversationally by someone who has been trained in it. A lot of Enneagram coaches offer some kind of virtual or in-person way of typing. I don't mention these in this episode but there are many ways to get typed outside of what I discuss. I wanted to keep this episode focused but will probably broaden the conversation down the road. https://soultrained.com/ backup phone for DDS: 646-270-6113 I help leaders get up out of the weeds of their comfort zones and into places they didn't know they needed to go. I bring my multi-sector global experience, decades of training in human potential, and enduring dedication to creating leaders who are worth following to every single thing I do. I believe that, at its core, executive coaching and leadership growth is about delivering shifts in what you do and how you do it. And I believe that shift happens most sustainably and radically through a process of hard human kindness. A trusted coach of mine once said to me, "Nothing great ever came from comfort zones." This really hit home. I understand coaching to be a process and commitment to letting go of unuseful behaviors and patterns and to becoming an exceptional leader. You should know that I will be as dedicated as you are [if not more] to your pursuit of becoming extraordinary. These philosophies underpin my approach and give you an idea of what you'll be getting yourself into when you decide to work with me. I have notched up over 25 years of working in small, medium, and large corporations. I literally grew up in the hospitality industry [my parents owned a pub and restaurant in the UK] and I started my career as a college professor teaching hotel and business management. I've since held a range of senior, executive, and C-Suite level roles across a host of sectors and companies including renowned retailer Marks & Spencer Plc, travel and tourism company Eurostar International, Crossrail Ltd - the company charged with building a new railway through the center of London, music giant Sony Music Entertainment, and Essence Global - part of the world's largest advertising company, WPP. I'm a member of the Advisory Board of WE Global Studios, a full-stack Innovation Studio and digital DIY Platform that powers the success of women entrepreneurs around the world. I serve as adjunct faculty at California Institute of Integral Studies where I teach counseling psychology to graduate students. I also run a private psychotherapy practice, called SoulFull Therapy, in the state of Connecticut My career has provided the opportunity for me to work across all continents and to develop the awareness, empathy, and skills to work successfully with people from all diverse walks of life in culturally humble ways. I'm certified as an Executive Coach by both the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the Oxford School of Coaching & Mentoring, I'm credentialed with the International Coach Federation, and am a coach-supervisor through the Coaching Supervision Academy. I've been working in the field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming [NLP] since 2001 - I'm a double-certified INLPTA Master Practitioner and Trainer of NLP, and a Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapist under the NLPtCA. I'm also licensed to administer MBTI [Step I and Step II] and FIRO-B psychometric tools. Over the years I have had the opportunity to train with many luminaries in the transpersonal field including Louise Hay, Marianne Williamson, Dr. Patricia Crane, Deepak Chopra, and Dr. Brant Cortright. In 2007 I became a Reiki Master and Teacher under the guidance of Christina Moore, in 2020 I completed an internship in The Narrative Enneagram, and in 2022 I qualified as a sound healer using crystal bowls. I'm a native Brit and have lived in the US with my husband, David, and our two cats, Harper and Hemingway, since April 2014. When not working you can usually find me geeking out over some psychological concept or losing myself in repeats of The Voice, X-Factor, and American Idol on YouTube.

These two tools, the Enneagram and breath work, have helped George come back to himself. Now he has made it his life's work to help others do the same — through his company Breathworks — to rediscover themselves, who they are deep inside, and how they can find their way to the healthiest version of themselves. His breath work is powerful, inspired, and transformational. Who you are is a gift, without you doing a single thing. What the world needs right now is for you to come back to yourself, to own and claim your authenticity, your being, your Next Level Purpose. When you do that work, your very presence is the gift. Chichi Agorom joins the podcast today to share about her new book The Enneagram for Black Liberation and to offer deeper insights on some of what she shares in her writings. We explore the idea of our Enneagram Types as armor with the awareness that those who hold marginalized identities aren't always safe to put down the armor of their Type. Chichi contends that the Enneagram is not just a system for individual freedom & wholeness, but rather one that can move us towards collective wholeness & liberation. Chichi Agorom is a lifelong student of what it means to be fully human. help leaders get up out of the weeds of their comfort zones and into places they didn't know they needed to go. Oh, the enneagram. It is, like many tools, so often misused or misapplied. It feels to me that a lot of folks are stuck between some form of infatuation with the tools or their type and some form of annoying disdain with the whole thing.I'm not a fan of the enneagram. Not the way people are fans of the Boston Red Sox or Manchester United. I like what I see happen in the lives of people who Jim Gum is a certified teacher of the Narrative Enneagram. There are many approaches to the study and application of the tool and, having worked with Jim in a few settings, I really appreciate his take. Specifically, Jim introduced me to the idea that knowing myself by way of the enneagram is ultimately about knowing my type; it's about transcending my type and knowing myself as a whole. We cover a lot of ground in this conversation. I think you'll dig it.

In last week's episode, we took a whirlwind tour of the Enneagram and its nine types. You may have even found out where you fit into the Enneagram model (and what drives your behavior). But the gateway to deeper connection is in communicating with all types of the Enneagram. And you can break them up into three centers of communication - head, heart, and body. When you can listen and learn from anyone, patterns emerge. You understand how people thrive, connect, and work best. When you pay attention to what makes people feel most alive, deeper connection is possible. In this episode, you'll discover the Enneagram way of connecting with others on a deeper level. Show highlights include: How to communicate and connect with your full self using the Narrative Enneagram.  (3:44) Why the Center's Approach enhances teamwork and produces your best work. Make way for the Enneagram Eights! On this week’s episode, we get to chat with not one, but two experts about the steely armor and tender insides that make up The Challengers, as they’re sometimes called. Sarajane Case of Enneagram & Coffee helps us unpack the hallmark characteristic of an Eight—their strength—and reveals that an Eight’s strength typically stems from childhood happenings that trigger the notion that they have to take care of themselves, which they can also wrap around their loved ones and those in need. This protective instinct means that Eights aren’t intimidated by opposition, but they do fear being betrayed or controlled—and when that happens, it can appear that Eights don’t need a shoulder to lean on. But, as Sarajane shows us, in order to love an Eight well, they need to see strength in us so that they can release the heavy responsibility they feel to carry the world’s weight on their shoulders. Abi Robins of Conscious Enneagram shares their expertise as not only an Eight themselves, but also as a teacher of The Narrative Enneagram. Abi also breaks down a new-to-us Enneagram term called “subtypes,” of which there are three—self-preservation, one-to-one, and social—and shows how these subtypes affect the way our Enneagram numbers play out in the world. Abi opens up about the incredible resilience that Eights possess and vulnerably shares what type Eight growth looks like to someone with a marginalized identity. Abi explains that a heated exchange that may look like an argument to some types is just a problem-solving, connective conversation to an Eight, and how that willingness to engage with an Eight, even when it’s messy, is the key to unlocks an Eight’s trust. Make sure you listen all the way through the hear how composer Ryan O’Neal (AKA Sleeping at Last) created a piece as strong as the Eights are, with a little touch of vulnerability that those who are close to Eights are lucky enough to glimpse. * * * Rothy's | Check out all the stylish and sustainable shoes (and amazing bags!) at rothys.com/forthelove BetterHelp | Get 10% off your first month at betterhelp.com/forthelove Stamps.com | Start your 4-week trial (plus, get free postage and a digital scale) at stamps.com, and enter FORTHELOVE

Last winter we had a vision of compiling 18 interviews, 2 people from each Enneagram type, to create a 3-part Enneagram series for our podcast. Our goal was to share personal experiences of each of the nine types to create a resource that would expose those studying the Enneagram to lived narratives of each type. Our formal training of the Enneagram has been through The Narrative Enneagram tradition, which values the human experience of each type over descriptions in a book. Our best teachers have been friends, family, and acquaintances who have shared their realities with us in relation to their type structure. Our vision for organizing the information and testimonials that we collected was to organize the series into three triads; the triads of the body, heart, and head. The SongShape Chorus uses the power of singing to encourage people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia – as well as their care partners – to create something unique, engage in community life, and rediscover the fullness of what life with dementia and Alzheimer’s can be.  Julie reports back on her trip to Denver where she participated in an Enneagram workshop hosted by The Narrative Enneagram. The Narrative Tradition offers an interactive exploration of the Enneagram through inquiry with panelists who share their personal stories and insights. Tune in to hear about this rich experience and how Julie continues to wrestle with the wisdom and insight she gained over the weekend.  Today’s guest is Suze Fair. Suze wears a lot of hats. She’s a pastor, a creative, and a professional. In her career she has worked in higher education, the marketplace, and the church. She also enjoys writing & speaking about the journey of faith the Lord has invited her on (both professionally and personally).   Married for 30 + years to Kelly and they are the parents (adoptive and bio) of 3 (mostly) grown children. Suze is involved in her community, passionate about the Arts & their redemptive potential, and trying daily to figure out how to be a Good Neighbor. In this episode, host Misti Dian speaks with Evan Barbee. Evan is a Certified Holistic Coach and a teacher of the Narrative Enneagram.   They Discuss: Evan discusses her childhood and how living with family that had different personalities made it more difficult, which led her to where she is today. There are nine different orientations to difficult moments, operating systems or coping strategies. When you better understand your habits, things get better. Coaching is, when you ask open ended questions, asking pointed questions, and to help people explore their own experiences. Enneagram is, when you help people understand their reflexes that they don’t not have a language for. When you explore the nine orientations of your personality profile, you can evolve and find your strengths to share with people. A program named, Wild Ones Academy helps women who have experienced violence with resources and ways to self-develop. When people are having a hard time in life, they tend to be more motivated to self-transform. We have a lot of things to learn from each other. We can do this by, not taking things so personally and understanding that their point of view can be of value. A book that Evan recommends to everyone is, The Essential Enneagram. Everyone is born with a temperament which is, when you have gut instincts, or feelings on different scenarios. Sometimes this is hard to define so we need to, take in to account information, organize it, and get a meaningful answer on how to handle it. After you learn to handle scenarios you need to consider different factors, variances and experiences for a good outcome. We use coping strategies on auto pilot to handle different situations. These are called our personality styles or patterns. You need to have a good “sales pitch” and a productive way to look at your life from a self-development standpoint. Evan describes a radiant life as, self-light and an unconditional friendship with oneself. You are 100% responsible for the life that you create for yourself. “The only moment that matters is the one that’s happening.” Focus on the life you are currently living with mental construct. On this week's episode of Conscious Construction I have the extreme pleasure of sitting with my good friend and Narrative Enneagram buddy Chichi Agorom to talk about her journey with the Enneagram, her work as a mental health counselor, and effective ways we can work with the Enneagram and mental health. Here's more about Chichi: I’m Chichi Agorom, a curious observer of people whose fascination with the experience of being human on a journey toward wholeness and purpose led me to studying the Enneagram. I am a trained teacher in The Narrative Tradition which prioritizes the felt experience and voices of participants, and I also hold a Coaching Certificate from The Enneagram in Business which focuses on the uses of the Enneagram in organizations. I also earned an MA in Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis in Couples & Family Therapy so when I’m not working with the Enneagram, I spend my days working with individuals, couples, and families to cultivate self-awareness and move towards authenticity, wholeness, and joy. My life’s work is to help people feel less alone & more known, and to create spaces that increase connection & compassion in an increasingly divided world. The Enneagram is an excellent tool to achieve that, and so is hosting gatherings. That’s why I’m here, and I warmly invite you into the practice of becoming yourself more fully while learning to hold deep compassion for all that you find in the process.
