Jeff Paterson expects Alex Burmistrov to sit tonight in favour of Nikolay Goldobin, but also thinks Markus Granlund could use a wakeup call and wouldn't be surprised if the former 19-goal scorer sits out. Jeff figures back-to-back starts for Anders Nilsson is a huge opportunity for Nilsson to atone for a poor start vs Islanders
Jeff Paterson suggests Nikolay Goldobin will play against the Islanders, suggesting Thomas Vanek or Alex Burmistrov could sit out.
Craig Button says the Sedins don't lack desire, but in a faster game, they're lack of speed and quickness is an issue...to the point where they're almost becoming offensive specialists. Craig doesn't understand why the Canucks are already "managing" Brock Boeser's icetime and has not-so-high praise for Alex Burmistrov
Jeff Paterson suggests Alex Burmistrov will slot in as the Canucks 13th forward, which likely means Jake Virtanen and Brock Boeser are in the opening day lineup. Jeff says Thomas Vanek and Loui Eriksson must produce right off the bat
Pierre McGuire admits playing big minutes in the AHL is probably best for Jake Virtanen, but Pierre also says Virtanen may also push for enough minutes in the NHL that it's worth keeping him with the Canucks. Pierre also suggests Alex Burmistrov's game isn't really suited to a bottom-six role
Canucks coach Travis Green says Jordan Subban needs to defend at an NHL level, but also suggests Subban's offensive game needs to improve as well. Green admits to liking Sam Gagner's versatility and appreciates the struggles Gagner has gone through to this stage. Green also discusses Alex Burmistrov, and admits to a penchant for running tough practices
Ben Kuzma of the Province Sports suggests the Canucks are all-in on Bo Horvat, so is curious what the hold-up is with the contract. But Ben also thinks a contract for a future captain will always take time, so isn’t overly concerned. Ben thinks Michael Chaput will get a chance to be the fourth-line centre out of camp and isn’t sure where Jayson Megna and Alex Burmistrov fit in.
Canucks GM Jim Benning says another year in OHL wouldn't hurt Olli Juolevi, but also says he's intrigued to see how Olli looks at camp, given his added strength. Benning says Newell Brown is a big supporter of Alex Burmistrov, he expects Michael Del Zotto to help the power play, and the Canucks are likely done adding in free agency
Craig Button says when you try to integrate young players into your lineup, you have to insulate them with players that can help them and so the Canucks free agency moves make sense. But Craig does say that Alex Burmistrov is a bottom six forward, so don’t bet on him finding an offensive side. Craig likes Toronto’s signing of Patrick Marleau, and says Dallas “has made significant strides” this offseason
Jake Donnelly (AKA "Bagoon") starts out by thanking Matt Sullivan for his wonderful work producing and creating "JakeDonnelly.com" After getting that out of the way, most of the podcast is devoted to the Celtics win over the Cavs before quickly discussing why Colin Miller's hit on Alex Burmistrov should not have been a penalty and why the NHL should never take that kind of hit out of hockey.
