Mike and Dan recap some notable events of the last week including some Islanders press junkets, rookie camp and Josh Bailey's goodbye and PTO with Ottawa. We start with Lou Lamoriello's preseason press conference where he gave updates on Alex Romanov, Zach Parise and the coaching staff, as well as reminding everyone how schedules work. Rookie camp got underway with a few guys, such as 2022 pick and recent ELC-signer Isaiah George, turning heads. But it was Josh Bailey, the forever Islander, stealing some of the spotlight by penning a goodbye letter to Long Island in The Players' Tribune, then signing a try-out with the Ottawa Senators, leading to all kinds of mixed emotions. Finally, they discuss the Mike Babcock fiasco in Columbus, some kind words for Islanders fans from an unlikely source and Mike's brother's upcoming wedding. Compared to the rest of the Islanders' summer, it's been a lot to take in. Subscribe to our Patreon! The New York Islanders have opened rookie camp. We break down the 20 players in attendance and discuss which ones have the most to prove before the veterans arrive. Plus 2022 draft pick Isaiah George signed an entry-level deal with the team before camp got started. Plus, Isles GM Lou Lamoriello announced that Zach Parise will not be joining the Islanders to start training camp but did leave the door open for a possible return later this season. We discuss the fallout of that decision and the players most likely to replace Parise on the third line and on the penalty kill. And Josh Bailey bid farewell to Isles fans with a touching message before he signed a PTO with the Ottawa Senators. We've got all this and more on today's Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin. On today's crossover episode of Locked on Wild and Locked on Predators, Nick Morgan of Locked on Predators joins as we recap the offseason for both teams and get ready for the 2023-24 season! In segment 1, Seth and Nick recap the offseason for their teams, with a fairly quiet Wild offseason compared to an extremely busy offseason of change for the Predators. We ask Nick if Barry Trotz has turned the roster over enough to get Nashville back to the playoffs, or if they ended up breaking even. Nick asks why the Wild haven't made more moves even with the dead cap hits of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, and Seth explains why the team is hoping to stay playoff caliber to limit the number of roster adds they need to make in two years. In segment 2, Seth and Nick discuss young players that fans of each team should be excited for. Brock Faber highlights the list from a Wild perspective, with Marco Rossi also discussed, as well as Marat Khusnutdinov, Liam Ohgren and Danila Yurov representing the next wave of prospects that will make major impacts at the NHL level. Tommy Novak is a highlight on the Nashville side with his Minnesota ties, but Nick mentions a couple of other Predators prospects to keep an eye on. In segment 3, Seth and Nick discuss the cap situations for both Minnesota and Nashville with dead cap hits. Seth discusses the cap recapture penalties with news that Zach Parise will not be returning to the Islanders this season, meaning his cap recapture penalty would have been substantially worse than what it cost to buy out Zach Parise and Ryan Suter combined. Nick discusses the buyout to Matt Duchene, as well as a few other players who are still accounting for cap space on Nashville's books. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! It's Friday! And that means our Locked on Summer Road Trip continues! Today we head to Minnesota to have a great chat with Seth Toupal of Locked on Wild. Minnesota had a pretty quiet offseason, but there is of course a reason for that. How large are the buyouts of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter looming? Seth also talks about the Wild draft picks for this season, and is the expectation for them to be part of this team, or are they going to be used in any potential deals as a way to keep the Wild in contention during these "buyout years" they are going through. Finally, Seth tells us what the expectations are for this Wild team. Despite all the cap constraints and buyouts, they still are a formidable team every year! But they still can't seem to get beyond that 1st round. Is that all the Wild can hope for over the next couple of seasons, or can they really make a deep run? Always fun when these two teams get together! Tune in, subscribe and enjoy! Today we analyze another way the New York Islanders could improve offensively this season even if they don't add a scoring winger. If Kyle Palmieri can stay healthy, he could add 8-10 goals to the lineup on his own and give the team a boost on the power play as well. Unfortunately, staying healthy has not been easy for Palms. We also break down the third line and who fills in there if Zach Parise does retire. There are many possible candidates including Pierre Engvall, Oliver Wahlstrom, Hudson Fasching and Julien Gauthier. We break down the reasons each player could fit there. And the Isles once again get little respect from the national media although this time I don't think they're off by much. All this and more on today's Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin. Draws against Wales and England were followed by a 1-0 win over Iran that assured a spot in the knockout rounds, and the U.S. achieved the minimum to avoid being branded a failure.
