On this episode, the guys break down the scrutiny in Edmonton over McDavid and Draisaitl having a rough night playing on the same line, why it’s not time to panic yet and where the team’s forward depth still looks thin without Zach Hyman. They touch on the lack of contract extensions for Edmonton’s Chris Knoblauch and Calgary’s Ryan Huska and whether Vancouver’s new coach Adam Foote brings a fresh perspective or a continuation of the Tocchet regime. The Senators look poised for another playoff run under Steve Staios and Josh Green after slashing 47 goals against last year, though the next step needs to be boosting their offence. Then, Vancouver Canucks new bench boss Adam Foote joins the show to talk about settling into his new role, his belief of what Quinn Hughes' future with the team is, Demko’s return to health, Pettersson’s offseason work, and why Vancouver believes it has the pieces to close last season’s playoff gap.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

They answered all those questions with a handful of delicious debates. They then moved onto some talk about Stuart Skinner, who is down 15 pounds as he comes into camp. They talked about how this could impact his game and why maybe it was an issue last season. With a bunch of new players in different spots around the league, Tyler quizzed the guys on a handful of players who signed with new teams over the summer and one person ran away with this competition. They wrapped with some betting talk, which included a fun question about how many goals Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and how many goals he could score this season, and their hot and cold performers of the week. Hockey season is creeping closer, and the buzz is building in Downtown Edmonton! This episode, Brenden Escott is joined by Oilers Inside the Game analyst Rob Brown to break down everything happening behind the scenes at the unofficial captain's skates. Who's showing up early, who's making noise, and what does it say about the mindset in the Oilers room? They also dig into the biggest question looming over Oil Country: What's the latest on Connor McDavid's contract extension talks? Rob and Brenden give their takes on where things stand, what it means for the franchise, and why fans should be watching closely. And – good news for fans of #18 – they discuss Zach Hyman's wrist injury recovery and what his return to full health could mean for Edmonton's top six heading into the season.
Two big questions surround the Edmonton Oilers heading into the new season: Will Mattias Ekholm be fully healthy after battling injury last year? And when will Zach Hyman return from injury to start the season? We dive into both storylines, what they mean for the Oilers' lineup, and how Edmonton's early-season success could hinge on the status of two of their most important veterans. Ellin Bessner will return next week. Today, we're bringing you the latest episode of Menschwarmers, The CJN's Jewish sports podcast. Subscribe to Menschwarmers here. In July, the New York Yankees drafted a Canadian shortstop from Wyoming, Ont., named Core Jackson. They did so despite knowing that Jackson, as a 17-year-old freshman at the University of Nebraska, had drawn a swastika on a Jewish student's dorm room while he was, he later told The Athletic, "blackout drunk." But this isn't a run-of-the-mill case of antisemitism. By all accounts, according to the Yankees' ground scouts and the recent investigation by The Athletic that ran Aug. 20, Jackson was, simply, acting like an ignorant drunk teenager, and was forthright about the incident with teams before the draft. The team did significant due diligence, engaging with New York's Jewish community and sending scouts to learn about Jackson's family and personality. The resulting story is less about the insipid rise of casual antisemitism, and more about the power of forgiveness when people—especially teenagers—make mistakes and try to do better. Keith Law, a longtime baseball journalist and former front office worker with the Toronto Blue Jays, broke this story for The Athletic. He joins us to share his impressions of Core Jackson and how the Yankees are viewing this opportunity. After that, podcast hosts Gabe and Jamie run through this year's hottest Jewish sports movies, from Happy Gilmore 2 to both Safdie brothers' award-season offerings, The Smashing Machine and Marty Supreme. Then they give a quick NFL preview and recap Zach Hyman's ceremonial opening of the new ice hockey rink at the Schwartz/Reisman Jewish Community Centre in Vaughan. Join Jim Tatti and Dave Feschuk for Hour 1 on OverDrive! The guys dive into the Maple Leafs trade targets on the roster, Matias Maccelli's introduction in Toronto, Zach Hyman's injury timeline with the Oilers and the Blue Jays sweeping the Angels to mark eight consecutive wins. TSN Hockey Analyst Martin Biron joins to dive into Anthony Stolarz's contract trajectory, Bowen Byram going to arbitration with the Sabres and Connor McDavid's possible deal with the Oilers.
The Oilers fell to the Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final for the second straight year, with Florida delivering near-perfect performances in Games 5 and 6 and showing superior depth, structure, and goaltending throughout the series. Injuries mounted on both sides, but Florida’s culture and cohesion carried them through, while Edmonton struggled without Zach Hyman and leaned too heavily on McDavid and Draisaitl, who couldn’t singlehandedly turn the tide. Sam Bennett earned the Conn Smythe with a historic playoff performance, and GM Bill Zito now faces the challenge of re-signing Bennett, Marchand, and Ekblad. Meanwhile, the Oilers enter a pivotal offseason with key extension talks looming for McDavid and Bouchard, major cap questions, and ongoing uncertainty in goal.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Nick Kypreos, Justin Bourne and Sam McKee discuss the Florida Panthers' Game 6 victory over the Edmonton Oilers to claim the Stanley Cup for a second straight season. They get into the Panthers' dynastic performance, McDavid and Draisaitl's flat finish to the series, the Oilers' depth's fall-off, the impact of Zach Hyman's absence, Stuart Skinner's rough game, what an Evan Bouchard extension would cost and Sam Reinhart's 4-goal effort. Later, they discuss Sam Bennett's future after winning the Conn Smyth and Florida's plan for their other expiring UFAs in Aaron Ekblad and Brad Marchand. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
The Oilers dropped Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final after a flat start and near-flawless performance from the Panthers, whose depth continues to shine, as each of their top 9 forwards now have 15 or more playoff points. Florida's relentless structure and experience, led by Brad Marchand and Sam Bennett, overwhelmed Edmonton, who sorely missed injured Zach Hyman. Evander Kane and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins struggled, and Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl still haven’t found their top gear in this series. The Oilers’ defensive pairings look fatigued, and goaltending remains a question heading into an elimination Game 6. The pressure is squarely on Edmonton's stars to respond or face another long offseason without a championship.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Dan and Shawn are joined by Sportsnet reporter Gene Principe, who has the pulse of the Edmonton Oilers, to discuss the adjustments needed for Game 4, the status of Stuart Skinner and potential lineup changes that Kris Knoblauch may be considering. He also talks about Zach Hyman's absence and why the loss of Hyman shouldn't be overlooked during this series against the Florida Panthers. The guys open the episode looking ahead to Game 4 and wondering how the Oilers can get back to their game. Is Sam Bennett the Conn Smythe favorite right now? They answer that question and look at the impact that Jonah Gadjovich in Game 3. They wrap the episode talking about the maturity of Gus Forsling, the Chris Kreider trade rumors and TJ Oshie's retirement.
Game 3 started ugly and it only got worse for the Edmonton Oilers as the Florida Panthers had their way in moving to within two wins of consecutive Stanley Cups. In March 2025, Josh Goldenberg had all but given up his dreams of playing professional golf. Using his finance degree from the University of Pennsylvania, he took a job at Goldman Sachs. But when he saw an opening to play in a qualifying tournament for the RBC Canadian Open, he signed up and flew up north on a Sunday—so he wouldn't have to take work off—and ended up earning a spot on his first PGA Tour. Goldenberg shares his remarkable story on this week's Menschwarmers, along with his thoughts on being a proudly Jewish player and how he carries that through his life. Also in this episode: Gabe recounts how Robert Shwartzman fell as quickly as he rose in his recent F1 race, and the hosts pay homage to Zach Hyman, who won't play in the Stanley Cup Finals due to injuries—despite the Edmonton Oilers remaining both the most Canadian and most Jewish team to root for this year. The Stanley Cup Final rematch between the Panthers and Oilers will begin Wednesday after nearly a week-long layoff, giving players rest but leaving everyone itching to play. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl appear calmer and more mature under the bright lights and the pressure of expectations this playoff season. The Oilers appear confident, despite missing Zach Hyman, while Florida enters the Finals healthy and battle-tested. Goaltending could be pivotal, with Stuart Skinner now facing a crease-crashing Panthers team and Sergei Bobrovsky posing a tougher test for Oilers shooters. Coaching styles also clash: Maurice is philosophical and chatty, Knoblauch quiet and methodical. TSN Hockey Analyst Cheryl Pounder joined OverDrive to discuss the Oilers looking to advance to the Stanley Cup Final, the importance of the depth in the series for Edmonton, playing without Zach Hyman, the Panthers creating a dynasty, Mitch Marner's future and his possible suitors and more.
The Florida Panthers are headed to their third straight Stanley Cup Final after rallying past Carolina in Game 5, continuing the state of Florida's Eastern Conference dominance. Carter Verhaeghe scored the winner, showcasing the value of patience and great scouting. An awkward handshake moment between coaches Paul Maurice and Rod Brind’Amour sparked debate about who belongs in the post-series tradition. In the West, the Oilers prepare for Game 5 against Dallas with Mattias Ekholm expected to return from injury but Zach Hyman is likely out for the remainder of the playoffs. Evander Kane and Corey Perry could see increased icetime to try and offset the loss of Hyman as they have both impressed so far in these playoffs. 'Tis the season for Conn Smythe chatter, a year with no clear favourite emerging, but McDavid, Bouchard, Barkov, and Tkachuk are all in the mix. Could a goalie surprise?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Frank and Jason kicked off today's episode of The DFO Rundown by talking about the first Trade Targets list of the summer that dropped earlier this week. They started at the top of the list with Sabres forward JJ Peterka, who is a pending RFA. How could the Sabres move on from Peterka and improve at the same time? The guys discussed that and a hypothetical deal involving Marco Rossi, who is also in Frank's top five. From there, they talked about a few of the defensemen on the list, starting with Rasmus Andersson and his future with the Flames and then they had a big discussion about what the Pittsburgh Penguins could do with Erik Karlsson. If the Penguins were willing to retain a significant portion of his salary, would there be a market for the former 100-point defenseman? Gregor found a spot that he thinks make a lot of sense. They also touched on Jamie Oleksiak of the Seattle Kraken, who is entering the final year of his deal.Tyler then joined for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the Rangers situation with Chris Kreider, the Kraken selling off assets, Demko's future in Vancouver, and Sam Bennett's case to be a $10m player. The guys then turned their attention to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Oilers got a big win in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final but it came at a brutal cost as they lost Zach Hyman for the remainder of the postseason. They talked about how the Oilers will adjust their lineup and how much losing Hyman impacts their Stanley Cup chances.1:20 - JJ Peterka & The Sabres5:00 - Rossi for Peterka?11:25 - Rasmus Andersson & The Flames15:20 - Karlsson's future in Pittsburgh28:10 - Buy or Sell (Kreider, the Kraken, & Demko)38:30 - Oilers lose HymanWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? It's the Wednesday after the boys took care of the Dallas Stars in Game 4, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap yet another Edmonton Oilers win while also looking at what it means to lose Zach Hyman. On today's podcast, I looked at the Western Conference Final, discussed how the Oilers' depth will need to step up, Mattias Ekholm's potential return, and more.Vibes are high in Edmonton after a big win over the Stars in Game 4 to take a stranglehold on the Western Conference Final, but the victory was not without its costs. Zach Hyman was forced to leave the game early in the first period after Mason Marchment caught him with a hit he wasn't expecting, and the result is that ZMH will miss the remainder of the season and require surgery. Needless to say, this is bad news. On the flip side, if we're going to stay positive, the Oilers are incredibly deep and will need some of those guys to step up and make some magic happen in his absence. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about standing at hockey games before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was fantastic this week, and the messages were all over the map. As always, finishing up the show with your opinions is my favourite part of the whole thing and something I always look forward to most. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode, because having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.

Ben & Brent kick off the day discussing the Blue Jays' recent struggles, including another shutout against the Rangers despite several missed opportunities. They analyze Bowden Francis' promising start and Anthony Santander's ongoing issues, questioning their sustainability. The hosts also touch on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s quiet streak and his role on the team. Later, they shift focus to the Oilers, who are closing in on the Cup Final, and discuss Zach Hyman's injury and its implications for Toronto (30:39).The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliate.
A bill requiring classroom displays of the Ten Commandments in public schools passed the Texas House on Sunday. The 82-46 vote sends the proposal back to the Senate before it goes to Gov. Greg Abbott. In other news, Texas is on the verge of banning the use of nondisclosure agreements to silence sexual abuse survivors after a key House vote Sunday. The ban would prevent NDAs from being used to prevent a survivor of sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, human trafficking or child sexual abuse from disclosing their abuse to others; a woman turned herself into police Wednesday following a fatal wrong-way crash in South Dallas earlier this month, police said; and the Dallas Stars now find themselves in a 2-1 hole after a 6-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday. Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman each scored a pair of goals and Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner made 31 saves. It marked the first time the Stars dropped back-to-back playoff games since this matchup against Edmonton last year. Game four of the series will be Tuesday in Edmonton.
