On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective for a conversation covering several Buffalo sports topics, including a potential Gabe Davis reunion with the Bills, the Sabres remaining laughable and a Bandits championship preview. The Jacksonville Jaguars released Davis just one year after signing him to a three-year, $39 million deal. Naturally, talk on social media immediately began to pour in about a potential Davis return to the Bills. The guys discuss it and while so many factors make it feel (highly) unlikely, such as what the room already looks like and Gabe having zero special teams value, it's not something that should be ruled completely out until he signs with another team. Plus, would a Gabe return show a lack of confidence in the player it feels like they drafted to replace him to begin with in Keon Coleman? Also, the Sabres announced Eric Staal is being hired to be a special assistant to general manager Kevyn Adams, who somehow reportedly is keeping his GM job and will return in the role for a sixth season. That coupled with a few other moves and rumored moves just has the guys laughing and of course, leads to yet another Patrick rant against the organization he considers the worst in all of professional sports. He's probably not alone---is the faith among the fan base quite literally the lowest it's ever been?Thankfully Buffalo sports fans have the Bandits to root for (if you're not, you should be). PK covers the Bandits brilliantly for Buffalo Sports Collective and has plenty of insight as the team gets ready to try and win their third consecutive NLL championship that begins in Buffalo on Friday May 16th. That and plenty more. You can follow PK on Twitter @PK_BSC and check out the Buffalo Sports Collective podcast.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Mario Ferraro joins the San Jose Hockey Now Podcast! Before we get to Ferraro (1:34:49), Keegan and Sheng touch on surprises from the San Jose Sharks' Rookie Faceoff roster (2:08) and the Pittsburgh Penguins hiring Doug Wilson (8:00). Then, we look at how post-salary cap era Stanley Cup winners and contenders have been built (11:50). Based on that, Keegan and Sheng believe Mike Grier's “hybrid rebuild” can work (15:15). Here's our snapshot view of every Stanley Cup winner and how they acquired their key players, the 2006 Carolina Hurricanes (19:50), 2007 Anaheim Ducks (23:05), 2008 Detroit Red Wings (26:55), 2009 Penguins (29:45), 2010 Chicago Blackhawks (34:12), 2011 Boston Bruins (39:50), 2012 Los Angeles Kings (42:20), 2013 Blackhawks (46:15), 2014 Kings, 2015 Blackhawks, 2016 Penguins, 2017 Penguins, 2018 Washington Capitals (48:55), 2019 St. Louis Blues (53:24), 2020 Tampa Bay Lightning (55:30), 2021 Lightning, 2022 Colorado Avalanche (59:27), and 2023 Vegas Golden Knights (1:02:00). It's worth noting that a number of a high picks like Eric Staal and Drew Doughty and Alexander Ovechkin and Alex Pietrangelo and Steven Stamkos who led their teams to championships weren't acquired through “tanking”. Sheng also evaluates how near-Cup winners were built, the 2015/2017 Ducks (1:07:00), 2013/2019 Bruins (1:09:55), 2019/2023 Hurricanes (1:12:30), 2020/2023 Dallas Stars (1:16:47), 2012/2014/2015 New York Rangers (1:20:27), and 2010/2011/2016 San Jose Sharks (1:24:00). What's the similarity (1:29:50) between Dean Lombardi and Mike Grier's rebuild plans?  Keegan and Sheng agree that there are many ways to build a contender. (1:31:20) Now, it's Mario! (1:34:49) We talk first about Ferraro's new dog, Wilder. Ferraro talks about hanging out with Joe Thornton in Ontario this summer. (1:37:50) Ferraro's Youngest of Plugs YouTube channel has had two episodes in the last two weeks, after a year's hiatus! (1:38:35) Ferraro chats about building a relationship with the new guys like Mike Hoffman, Givani Smith, and Leon Gawanke. (1:41:00) Ferraro talks about his reaction to the Erik Karlsson trade. (1:44:50) Finally, Mario discusses trying to do too much as a player, which gets you away from what you're best at on the ice.  ★ Support this podcast ★

The Philadelphia Flyers are making big moves in the trade market and gearing up for the 2023 NHL Draft! Elliotte Friedman tweeted early on Tuesday morning regarding rumblings of a three-way deal between the Columbus Blue Jackets, Los Angeles Kings, and Flyers. The proposed trade involves defenseman Ivan Provorov (sent initially to LA) to Columbus, goalie Cal Petersen, defensemen Sean Walker & Helge Grans, Columbus' 2023 first-round pick (22nd overall) & 2024 conditional second-round pick, LA's 2024 second-round pick to Philly, and forward Hayden Hodgson along with defenseman Kevin Connaughton to Kings while LA retains 30% of Provorov's deal. This frees up cash for LA to extend Vladislav Gavrikov, who can become a UFA on July 1st. What are the ramifications of this mega deal? The Stanley Cup Finals are two games in, and they have not disappointed between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Florida Panthers. Game 1 consisted of some really strong offensive presence from both teams. The Panthers' Eric Staal opened up the scoring for Game 1. This is Staal's third time in the Cup Finals for his career. He won with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006, was there with the Montreal Canadiens in 2021, and is back this season with the Panthers. Game 2 was a very different story. With Staal's experience, he's gonna have to help figure out a way to lead his Panthers team back into this series down 0-2, starting with Game 3. The Knights are in their second Finals appearance since losing to the Washington Capitals in 2018. This team has looked like they have learned a lot from that loss. The Knights are playing a physical game, but they are also making the Panthers pay for their mistakes and undisciplined play. Goalie Adin Hill has looked strong in the pipes. Will the Knights continue the strong offensive outburst, or will the Panthers answer the bell and avoid being down 0-3? Game 1 was very evenly matched between these two teams. Game 2 was incredibly lopsided in the Golden Knights' favor. What does Game 3 have in store for the Stanley Cup Finals? The Finals head across the country to Sunrise, Florida, for Game 3 Thursday Night. The Panthers will find themselves back on home ice. If ever there was a must-win for a team in the Stanley Cup Finals, this is a must-win for the Panthers. They had a pretty epic come-from-behind performance against the Boston Bruins in Round 1. There will be a lot of adjustments that need to be made by the Panthers for Game 3, as they got smoked 7-2 in Game 2. Should they not take advantage of Home Ice, they'll find themselves on the verge of elimination heading into Game 4. Do they have one more comeback in them?
