We're less than two weeks away from the start of the NHL season and that means the boys have plenty to talk about on the brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio. On today's show, we're talkin' about Rick's new job, handsome Jay Woodcroft, hitting the halfway point of the pre-season, and anything else we can think of from Oilers training camp.To kick off this week's podcast, we got this week's show started with a conversation about Dylan Holloway and what we expect from him this season now that he's been named the 2022 winner of the Ty Rattie Award. Even though he's ripped it up in tune-up time, is it fair to expect him to contribute at a high rate in his first NHL season? Sticking with Holloway, we looked at the debate that kicked off on Twitter about whether Jesse Puljujarvi and Dylan Holloway are competing for spots and if there's room for both on this roster. We also looked at Jake Virtanen being cut from his PTO after what I'd personally describe as a very lacklustre training camp from a guy whose career is hanging on by a thread. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold performers. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

We have finally made it to the last game of the preseason schedule! Tonight, the Edmonton Oilers host the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Place with many players still having much to play for. A surprising talent that is still around is James Hamblin. Hamblin is a hometown kid the Oilers signed as an undrafted free agent out of the WHL a few years ago. Now, he's battling for a spot on the NHL roster with chance to prove everyone wrong again. One player that isn't with the Oilers anymore is Jake Virtanen. Last night, Virtanen was released from his professional tryout contract after playing five preseason games with them. We'll have Baggedmilk on the show today to talk about that decision and also on how much he loves preseason hockey. Also on today's show, Tyler will talk about some possible trade targets for the Oilers later on in the season and Liam gives out some Betway picks for tonight's game. Hosted on Acast. The Edmonton Oilers signed former Vancouver Canucks winger Jake Virtanen to a tryout contract on Monday, just two months after he was found “not guilty” in a criminal sexual assault trial. It's sadly the same ol', same ol' in the hockey world.* But there is some good news to celebrate in women's sports, of course. This week I'm looking at the Boundary Battle of Alberta, Connor McDavid's first presser back in town, Ryan McLeod's contract, and a whole lot more.To kick off this week's episode of BLTN, I jumped in with a quick look at the Boundary Battle of Alberta event that Woz, Kennedy, and Kylie covered for us this past weekend, and how I was absolutely stunned that we were granted access to any of the players. Needless to say, it hasn't exactly been easy for us to make these kinds of things happen over the years and that's why I was shocked to see how things played out. Getting back to the current team, I walked through the latest information about Ryan McLeod's upcoming contract and also the potential for Jake Virtanen to be an Oiler even though it doesn't seem like many people are interested in the experiment. Sticking with the Vitanen rumour, the other component of this nonsense rumour is that it would require someone to go and many think it would be Jesse Puljujarvi. I mean, really? It's ridiculous. I also spent some time talking about jersey ads and Jack Campbell's new gear setup, which all looks incredible if you ask me. While there's no doubt that the Oilers have plenty of worthy options, it will be fascinating to see who gets named as part of the first class and what the reaction will be. From there, we looked at the Jake Virtanen rumours that have popped up a little bit and whether it makes any sense for the Oilers to be interested. In the meantime, however, here's a fresh podcast to break down all things Edmonton Oilers and whatever else is going on around here.To kick off this week's episode of BLTN, I jumped in with a look at the long weekend and specifically how mine started with the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert that left both myself and my missus with an overwhelming run of allergies. Despite the tragic circumstances that led to the show, I can say with certainty that it was honestly one of the best concerts I've ever seen and I say that as someone that watched from my couch. Getting back to the Oilers, I couldn't believe that I actually had to spend some time talking about why bringing in Jake Virtanen is a bad idea, but after word came out of Vancouver that the Oilers were in the mix on the free agent, I gave my take on why there are absolutely bigger fish to fry. I also touched on the new Ring of Honour style Hall of Fame that the Oilers announced this morning as the team will finally have a place to pay tribute to some of the great Oilers from over the years that won't ever make the NHL's Hall of Fame. In a twist worthy of O Henry, Vyas is away writing the bar exam the week we get heavy into legal proceedings. Bit of a heavy show this week as the guys discuss the myriad sexual assault lawsuits unfolding right across hockey, including Hockey Canada, Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz, and former Vancouver Canuck forward Jake Virtanen. But don't worry, before all that they're joined by Nation Network commander-in-chief David Quadrelli for a light and funny discussion of the Canucks' inaction on their many pressing needs, how the team fared at the draft, Johnny Hockey's exit out of Alberta, and of course, the three stances every goalie must know: standing, hunching, and crouching. Patrick Johnston of the Province and Post Media joined us in his regular Tuesday slot. Says that this is the way you want to see teams play. With the exception of the game in Jersey, the others were thrillers. Talked about what Miller and Bruce could have been chatting about on the bench. Thinks there is a trust factor there with player and coach. His one to one people skills are quite evident. That’s probably all it was. Two guys, there, who like hockey. That’s what they could have been talking about. Talked about Jake Virtanen. He has a court date scheduled for tomorrow. Talked about the specialty jerseys that continue to be home runs. Jeff Paterson joined us and right away pointed out the interesting schedule right now that has the Canucks with a few days off. However, looking forward to the Habs in town tomorrow. Talked about the majority of this home-stand being against out of conference opponents. Looking forward to getting back to normal, hopefully next year. Talked about what JT and Bruce could have been talking about. Talked more about JT Miller. Agreed that there is a bit of Kesler in him. Not always in a good mood but that is being human. Talked about Quinn Hughes saying this is the best team he has been on. JPat was a bit surprised because there have been some good stretches. Talked about the Habs and the troubles they are having getting offence from the d-core. They are last in the league, by a lot. Talked about the specialty jerseys. Our Seahawks insider, Gregg Bell joined us on the day Russell Wilson got traded. Started off with a mea culpa after 2 years of saying this would never happen. Talked about Drew Lock. They have the resources to go out and get a better one than him. Could see a guy like Pete Carroll picking up DeShaun Watson but the moral and legal issues that would come with that, Gregg can’t see it happening. Thinks that Kenny Pickett will be the first QB to go, hand size be damned. Gregg is still trying to wrap his head around a 70 year old coach going through a rebuild. Hawks now have 35 millions more in cap than they did yesterday. Thinks that they will go out and sign Metcalf now. Talked about Noah Fant and Shelby Harris. Talked about the Broncos that Seattle didn’t get. Thinks that someone would have back up a bigger Brinks truck. Talked about how the 12’s are feeling. Says they are not happy. They are not ready for the rebuild.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Back for a big week of shows after a very entertaining weekend in the NHL. The Welcome Matt looks at the Oliver Ekman-Larsson acquisition by the Canucks, and how Sekeres feels that OEL will have a bounce back season joining an energized Vancouver market. Canucks sixth round draft pick Connor Lockhart follows and tells us that he’s not concerned about where he got drafted, feels that he is taking the steps to improve his game on and off the ice, and why he feels that despite his small stature, he’s confident he can bring his game to the NHL level. Our Monday NHL insider John Shannon follows Hashtags - the best and worst of Twitter, and gives his insight on what was a crapshoot of an NHL draft, tells us how much he likes Conor Garland, why he thinks that Gary Bettman doesn’t care that the Arizona Coyotes are a dumping ground for bad contracts, and why he thinks that Braden Holtby will get bought out by the Canucks. The Price is Right looks at the tone deafness of the Montreal Canadiens drafting Logan Mailloux, the Chicago Blackhawks trotting out a group of women at the draft to shield themselves from the sexual allegations the organization is currently dealing with, and the ridiculousness of Jake Virtanen’s agent calling out the Vancouver media for being too negative. Jeff Paterson joins for his daily hit and tells us what went wrong with Jake Virtanen in Vancouver, where the Canucks are at with the Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes extensions, why he thinks that Nate Schmidt would be a good fit in Minnesota, and what happened with the Jay Beagle neck injury. The Pat Down breaks down the amount of dough Zach Parise and Ryan Suter will put in their pockets, after the Minnesota Wild bought out both of their former stars on Tuesday. Canucks reporter Patrick Johnston from Post Media follows Hashtags - the best ands worst of Twitter, and speculates on whether or not the Abbotsford AHL team will adopt the Canucks nickname, if he thinks a buyout of Jake Virtanen is as good as done, and wonders if managements expectations for this season are higher than the fan bases. The Price is Right focuses in on Premier John Horgan who despite saying otherwise in the past, stated today that World Cup games aren’t off the table in Vancouver come 2026. Adnan Virk from the MLB Network joins next to discuss All-Star week in the majors, whether he thinks the home run derby rules need some tweaking, what he thinks the Blue Jays need to do at the trade deadline, and who he thinks are the top World Series contenders are. Heading into a scorching hot weekend with a sizzler of a show. The boys unpack the wild night in Montreal, after the Habs topped the Golden Knights last night to advance to the Stanley Cup final. The Pat Down looks at Vegas’ offseason and wonders what changes will be made with a roster that has fallen twice in back-to-back years in the semi-finals. Frank Seravalli follows and tells us about his new gig with Daily Faceoff, why the Seattle Kraken went with Dave Hakstol as the teams first head coach, and gives his insight to the Habs advancing to the Stanley Cup final and game 7 between the Lightning and Islanders. Rick Dhaliwal follows Hashtags - the best and worst of Twitter, and tells us that his phone is starting to burn up with activity around the NHL revving up, gives us what he’s hearing about Jake Virtanen’s future with the Canucks, why he feels that Alex Edler will return to Vancouver next season, and touches on the announcement of Ryan Johnson returning to run the AHL franchise that’s headed to Abbotsford. Henrik Sedin follows after a special edition of Ask J Pat and talks about why him and Daniel are joining the Canucks front office, what his role will be within the organization, how much interaction they’ve had with the players, Travis Green and Jim Benning, why he always felt that him and Daniel would get into management, what his relationship is with Elias Pettersson, and why he thinks Sweden will lose to England at Euro 2020. Another week and boy is there a lot of news to get to! After some pleasantries exchanged about how everyone spent their weekend, Sekeres dives into the Welcome Matt, which unpacks the Jake Virtanen allegations, Nikita Tryamkin sticking in the KHL, and just how much of a disaster this season has been for the Canucks organization on and off the ice. Patrick Johnston from The Province joins next and begins by stating what he’s been hearing about the sexual misconduct allegations Virtanen has been accused of. PJ feels that this is the end of Virtanen’s time with the organization, while also questioning how the team handled the release on the Virtanen news, wondering why no one from the management side or ownership spoke on the allegations. The interview wraps with PJ’s thoughts on Tryamkin signing back in the KHL. Our Monday NHL insider John Shannon follows Hashtags - the best and worst of Twitter, and lets us in on what he’s been hearing from the NHL in regard to the Virtanen investigation. John also suggests that all the teams in the league will play out their seasons, as it will cost money for the games not to be played. The Price is Right looks at the lack of playoff races in all of the divisions in the NHL. Jeff Paterson joins for his daily hit and begins by stating that he thinks the Virtanen’s days as a Vancouver Canuck are over. J Pat also goes over just how dire things are getting for the Canucks forward group, who now have eight players upfront that are on the injury list, and why he thinks that Tryamkin’s decision to stay in Russia has nothing to do with the Canucks current coaching staff.
