Only bad news for Vegas was the loss of the Mark Stone early in the game. Postgame comments from Stuart Skinner, Leon Draisaitl and Kris Knoblauch. We discuss the change in philosophy to not win now, what the signing of Alex Nedeljkovic means for Tristan Jarry, the trading of Reilly Smith, why they chose to acquire many short term free agents, if they're looking to make any trades, if they'll acquire any other free agents, and more!
Episode 156 of the "New Ice City" podcast discusses a surprisingly quiet free-agent period for the New York Rangers and what it means for their Stanley Cup hopes. Plus, host Vincent Mercogliano analyzes the Blueshirts nabbing defenseman EJ Emery in the NHL Draft, the motivation behind the Reilly Smith trade and everything he's hearing about captain Jacob Trouba's murky future.
The rebuild on the fly means obtaining assets who can play right away. The Kevin Hayes deal kind of does that, but the Reilly Smith move doesn't.

On his daily First 10 podcast, Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey ponders moves Penguins GM Kyle Dubas should -- or should not -- consider with NHL free agency approaching on July 1. Should names including Reilly Smith and Rickard Rakell be on the trading block as the team searches for more speed alongside Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang? And why do targets including Max Domi, Tyler Bertuzzi and Jake DeBrusk make sense in free agency? Jason tackles those question. Later, he ponders what it means for Jeff Capel and Pitt basketball that Bub Carrington is set to go to the Washington Wizards with the No. 14 pick in the NBA draft; reacts to the Pirates taking two out of three games from the Cincinnati Reds this week; and offers his thoughts on whether Luis Ortiz has earned a rotation spot.

Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins once again beat the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night but it wasn't their best effort. To start the show, Hunter and Pat dive into a recap for the Penguins win over the Jackets and how the Penguins should feel pretty fortunate that they got the two points. They discuss how the team should've been a lot better since the Jackets had played the night before and then got into some of the positives, including Reilly Smith and Evgeni Malkin. They marvel at how the two got their mojo back in this game and wonder where it's been for some time. They especially praise Malkin for his performance as he showed that he still has more left in the tank. They analyze Jesse Puljujarvi's game and how he got on the scoresheet before getting to the latest on Jake Guentzel. Is a trade going to be completed by tonight? What teams are still involved? Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. TK talked about why we have seen struggles from Evgeni Malkin in the back half of this season and why Geno might be in his own head. Does Reilly Smith really want out of Pittsburgh as much as the scuttlebutt has said? The guys asked Tyler if Jake Guentzel is worthy of being ‘irked' by lack of communication on a contract extension – but he feels like Kyle Dubas may have looked at the numbers and noticed it just wasn't feasible. The guys asked Tyler to predict where Guentzel ends up following the trade deadline.
Elliotte Friedman said this season the Penguins aren't even going to go to Bryan Rust and see if he would wave his no trade clause. Mullsy ran a poll where Kyle Dubas is not getting a lot of votes for having to take responsibility for losses, but Ron Hextall is getting a lot of blame. More calls on the Penguins. Ryan Graves isn't good and Reilly Smith doesn't care... big Dubas acquisitions.
This is a lost season. The Penguins are done. What comes next? If the Steelers packed it in after 3/4 of the season we would be crushing them. Why not the same with the Penguins? Reilly Smith doesn't want to be here and Kyle Dubas gave a big deal to Ryan Graves, who kept being demoted by New Jersey. Erik Karlsson hasn't been an ultimate difference maker in a good way.
On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is here to discuss the 2-0-1 week for the Panthers as they have looked great in their one loss but lackluster in their wins. Florida was still able to come from behind and beat Washington on Saturday with no Kevin Stenlund and Matthew Tkachuk. Nick Cousins got his first goal in 34 games and was an assist away from a Gordie Howe Hat Trick. Aleksander Barkov has scored two goals since Dec. 16 and Sam Reinhart is goal-less in the last six games, yet the Panthers are 5-1-0 in that stretch. We discuss how this stretch checks so many boxes in how ready they are for the postseason as they navigate this halfway to three-quarters posrtion of the schedule. Florida has allowed two goals or less in their last 13 games, 11-2-0 in that span. Lastly, what are the chances that the Panthers trade for Reilly Smith? Smith spend two season in Florida and recorded 40 goals and 47 assists for 87 points. There were not so nice comments said prior to the Edmonton Bubble when we was a member of the Vegas Golden Knights. Are they forgivable? Did Smith have a fight to feel frustrated with poor attendance? More importantly, does a trade happen? We discuss this and more on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day. Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
