The Capitals drop 4 in row and are trying desperately to get back into the win column. The schedule doesn't get any easier as they face the Edmonton Oilers on Monday. Alex Ovechkin made history by passing Gordie Howe for the most goal on one team. Alex Ovechkin scores on the power play to give the Capitals a 1-0 lead. It marks Ovechkin's 787th career goal, moving him past Gordie Howe (786 goals with the Detroit Re Wings) for the most goals scored by a player with a single franchise. Ovechkin is now 13 goals away from 800, 15 from passing Howe for second on the NHL's all-time goals list and 108 from breaking Gretzky's all-time scoring record of 894 goals. Once again the Capitals got great production from their fourth line with goals from Garnet Hathaway and Nic Dowd. The fourth line also had a new addition to their line as Beck Malenstyn was inserted into the lineup and got an assist tonight. The big story of the night was Charlie Lindgren as he made 38 saves on 41 shots. Truly a stellar night for Charlie as he made some timely and big saves. My hope for Charlie is that he gets the next start Thursday vs the Dallas Stars. Dylan Strome had a 2-assist night and Anthony Mantha showed up on the score sheet with an assist on the Protas goal. In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals game Saturday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Capitals defeated the Blue Jackets by a score of 4-3. The game saw goals by Dylan Strome, Alex Ovechkin, Anthony Mantha and Nic Dowd. Darcy Kuemper made 36 saves on 39 shots. In the preseason finale on Saturday, both groups got plenty of work as the Capitals and Columbus Blue Jackets logged a combined eight penalties in Washington's 4-3 overtime victory. The Capitals went 1-for-4 in their power play opportunities, scoring on an Ovechkin one-timer in the final minute of the first period. Later in the show Dan talks about the cuts to the roster Sunday. Lucas Johansen, along with Henrik Borgstrom, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby and Brett Leason, went on waivers after practice. If he clears, he will head to the AHL's Hershey Bears. “[I tell them] my office privately. I don't take it lightly,” Laviolette said. “For a guy who was sent down every year, I understand exactly what they're going through. Sometimes you don't understand but I do. And the conversations are real. Emotions are real. I understand that and nowadays, for the most part, everybody works really hard to try and attain their goal. When you're close, it's you can feel that. It's real.” Aliaksei Protas and Joe Snively appear to have made the cut, though Laviolette said it is still camp and that nothing is permanent. Therefore, he hasn't touched base with them on cracking the 23-man opening night roster, which is due on Monday at 5 p.m. Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Mantha's 10 hits are tied for the fifth-highest recorded total in a playoff game in franchise history (the NHL began tracking hits in the 2005-06 season). The Capitals improve to 30-21 in Game 1s in franchise history and 10-9 in Game 1s played on the road. Laviolette didn't say exactly when it happened, only thing I can remember in the game before Wilson left was when he tried to hit Weegar, but instead took the brunt of the hit on the boards. @dancaps218 @lockedonecaps Listen on all platforms: https://linktr.ee/locapitals?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=24ee2d3d-2711-4999-a39a-bbd030115292 Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! On this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, we take part in one of our favourite annual traditions: finding the biggest mistakes in Yahoo!'s default draft rankings! We compare theirs to ours to find the greatest market inefficiences that you can take advantage of in your drafts. Combing through Yahoo!'s rankings, top to bottom, we name more than 50(!) players who are going to be over- or under-rated (or even just plain forgotten) by anyone just going by that default list. So, on this episode, you'll hear our top candidates for 'let someone else take them there,' 'would be amazing if you can get him at that spot', and 'sneaky great late round flyer'. Want to test your skills against fantasy hockey's best and brightest in the Keeping Karlsson Ultimate Patron Fantasy League? Become a patron and you'll get access to add your name to the waitlist for this year's KKUPFL, and will draft in a fresh division if we can fill it before the season begins.
