Tammikuun toisen Hokipodin haastattelussa valmentajapaikkaansa kaupitelleen lahtelaisseuran sanavalmis maalivahti Emil Larmi. Hockey Time -podcastin puheenaiheet: Missä kunnossa Liiga-kiekkoilijat palaavat työmaalle koronakaranteenin jälkeen? (00:07) 100 000 eurolla Pelicansin valmentajaksi. (04:30) Haastattelussa viisi nollapeliä kuluvalla Liiga-kaudella torjunut Pelicans-vahti Emil Larmi. "Lähdin aikoinaan Lahdesta, että pääsin eroon lempinimestä". "Elan" kymmenen päivän koronakaranteeni sisälsi jumppailua ja nikkarointia kotioloissa. Larmin Porschessa ei ole talvirenkaita. (10:32) Isossa kuvassa Larmi on tyytyväinen omaan alkukauteensa. "Kaikenlaistahan tässä on syksyn aikana tapahtunut". Mystisten poissaolojen takaa löytyy useita syitä. Jenkkivuosien joukkuekarusellia ei ole ikävä. Larmin ja Jasper Patrikaisen yhteistyö on sujunut ilman väkivaltaa. (16:00) Mitä Pelicans-torjuja mahtoi kuiskata SaiPa-puolustaja Kalle Maalahdelle joukkueiden edellisessä kohtaamisessa joulukuun lopussa? "Tunnetta voisi näkyä kaukalossa enemmän. Olen ihminen joka elää tunteella myös arjessa." (22:42) Muistutus Hokipodin tammikuun kuuntelijakilpailusta (https://oma.media.fi/ess/hockey-time-kuuntelijakilpailu/). Karanteenikaverikseen Emil Larmi hankki höyrysilitysraudan sijaan robotti-imurin.

Näitä kysymyksiä jaksossa pohtimassa ketterän tekemisen erikoisosaajat, Just sopivasti ketterä -kirjan kirjoittaneet Antti niemi ja Jari Hietaniemi. Well it happened. For the first time since Kevin Bieksa got some incredible help from a stanchion and put an 2OT goal past Antti Niemi on May 24th 2011, the Vancouver Canucks won a playoff series. We get together the morning after to look at the incredible shutout effort the Canucks put up in game 3 and the shaky but gutsy victory in game 4. With Jacob Markstrom not having his best night, the young Canucks core put the pedal to the floor and won it early in overtime thanks to resident overtime hero Chris Tanev. What's in store for the Canucks in store for the first round? We wait patiently. But until then, celebrate and enjoy this win. Just like Chris Tanev is... Support the show on Patreon! Show Timeline: Pre-ramble- 0:00 Intro Music- 2:45 Original Intro- 3:41 Antti Niemi- 9:50 End Credits- 54:15 *This week’s notes: Jay, who runs the Southampton Page on Twitter, and who is the official partner of the show, was due to be on this week. We had the recording time set pretty late and then he got ill. I’ve been meaning to find a way to get this episode back out, and now seems like the perfect time, especially since Jay was the one who set it up in the first place. ----more---- It’s not very often that most of us get to speak to former professionals. Some are public figures in broadcasting or coaching, some move on to other careers, and some slip away from the crowds and make a life for themselves with their families. Those that are public often seem, at least to me, unreachable. You can see them, you may even say hello, but to actually sit down and have a chat is not something most of us will get the chance to do. John, of the Saints FC Podcast, has managed to track down several former pros for the podcast, and I truly enjoy those episodes because I learn so much about the team and the players of the time, a time before I began following the red and white stripes, before I began singing “Oh When the Saints” at 4:00am most Saturdays before I began calling it football. For that reason, I feel especially honored to have had the chance to speak with former Saints and Finland goalkeeper Antti Niemi. If you have been a fan of Saints since the early 2000s then you will know Antti. The blonde-haired shot-stopper is a fan favorite remembered for his cat-like reflexes and acrobatic saves in goal. But, prior to doing this interview with him, I didn’t really know him at all. So, in the very short time between learning about the opportunity and actually speaking with him, I enjoyed learning about him and his career, watching highlight videos, and reading up on other interviews he had done. My hope is that the interview is slightly different than what he would have been asked elsewhere. I didn’t want to do the same old interview, but I hope the interview I did is enjoyed by whoever listens. There are so many other people out there probably better suited to do this interview, but I am grateful for the chance to speak to such a thoughtful, talented, kind and hardworking person. Antti is still active in football. In addition to coaching for Finland he likes to spend time fishing and with his family. He is on Instagram @anttimniemi. Special thanks to Jamie Grant for setting this interview up. Thanks also to Lee Calendar and Michael Kurn for helping with some of the question ideas. Tätä studiossa pohtimassa tunnin verran suuri ja mahtava viinijoogi, somekanavien tolkun viestien tulkki, Just Sopivasti -mies Antti Niemi.

The Southampton Page is the longtime partner of the show. Jamie, who runs the page on Instagram and oversees the Twitter account, though he has some help from some wonderful guys on Twitter, has been a fantastic help to me over the time I’ve done the show. From setting me up with guests such as Antti Niemi and Tom Deacon, to helping get the show in front of the page’s 20,000 Instagram followers, I can’t really explain how much of a help he has been. This week, Jamie joins me to discuss the match against Leicester City… last time Jamie was on, we also played Leicester City. This week, a member of the team was shown a red card. Last time Jamie was on, a player on the team was shown a red card… however, this time, the result was different (thank goodness). The performance of the team this week was admirable to say the least. The organization, the effort, the refusal to fold under the pressure of playing with 10 men for so much of the match. It really was an extremely impressive performance, and one that sees the team climb out of the relegation zone. From here, the team hosts Derby on Wednesday night, about which manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has claimed he intends to play a stronger side than what some originally thought. It’s not very often that most of us get to speak to former professionals. John, of the Saints FC Podcast, has managed to track down several former pros for the podcast, and I truly enjoy those episodes because I learn so much about the team and the players of the time, a time before I began following the red and white stripes, before I began singing “Oh When the Saints” at 4:00am most Saturdays, before I began calling it football. For that reason, I feel especially honored have had the chance to speak with former Saints’ and Finland goalkeeper Antti Niemi. If you have been a fan of Saints since the early 2000s then you will know Antti. The blonde haired shot stopper is a fan favorite remembered for his cat like reflexes and acrobatic saves in goal. But, prior to doing this interview with him, I didn’t really know him at all. So, in the very short time between learning about the opportunity and actually speaking with him, I enjoyed learning about him and his career, watching highlight videos and reading up on other interviews he had done. He is on Instagram @udde72. Special thanks to Jamie Grant for setting this interview up. Thanks also to Lee Calendar and Michael Kurn for helping with some of the question ideas. On this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Hockey Podcast, we take advantage of a short holiday-mandated lull in action to shed all kinds of light on how Elan and Brian are faring in their Audio Almanac player projections at the near-halfway point of the 2018-19 NHL season. Elan's on vacation, but Brian is joined by Alma-maniac and KKUPFL tracker extraordinare Marcas to revel/wallow in the most/least accurate pre-season player point projections thus far. Welcome to the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast's sesquicentennial episode! The free agent frenzy has slowed to a trickle, but we are bursting with takes on how player production around the league will be affected. Of course, our analysis goes beyond just the player that has moved-- we go up and down depth charts to scope out roster-wide effects, including the blue lines, top sixes, creases and power-play units in New York, Washington, New Jersey, Dallas, Buffalo, Florida, Detroit, Los Angeles and Toronto, to name a few. The last couple weeks have also seen plenty of address changes for goaltenders, which means a handful of new tandems and new opportunities for goalies to push and be pushed for playing teams. Elan and Brian name the 'tenders who are better off for their move, others who should be looking over the shoulder, and still others who could be platooning from the get-go-- particularly in Winnipeg and Philadelphia. Remember, we've got our summer patronage special on from now til September: become a $1 patron of the show, and you'll get the full slate of $5 patron perks, including access to the famous patrons-only Facebook group! Plus, you'll be supporting the show :) Players discussed on this episode include Kevin Shattenkirk, Mika Zibanejad, John Carlson, Andre Burakovsky, Brett Connolly, Jakub Vrana, Pavel Zacha, Nico Hischier, Marcus Johansson, Damon Severson, Cory Schneider, Mike Cammelleri, Darcy Kuemper, Jonathan Quick, Steve Mason, Connor Hellebuyck, Brian Elliott, Michal Neuvirth, Anders Nilsson, Ryan Miller, John Gibson, Antti Niemi, Jonathan Bernier, Ondrej Pavelec, Herik Lundqvist, Chad Johnson, Eddie Lack, Mike Smith, Alex Radulov, Martin Hanzal, Jason Spezza, Brendan Gallagher, Ales Hemsky, Philip Danault, Jason Pominville, Radim Vrbata, Evgeni Dadonov, Vincent Trocheck, Henrik Haapala, Aaron Ekblad, Keith Yandle, Trevor Daley, Mike Green, Niklas Kronwall, James van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak, Jussi Jokinen, Patrick Sharp, Justin Williams, Chris Kunitz, Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and more. * * * You might have heard that our friend Darryl Dobbs (aka Dobber) recently announced that he has been diagnosed with a rare bone marrow disorder. The Blue Jackets' streak is over, but the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast's streak of appearing in your podcast feed on a weekly basis continues! The show begins on an optimistic note with Outjuries, where we consider what can be expected by one old and one new Ranger returned to health, the upside of Montreal's #1 centre and his affect on some complementary pieces, a hopefully healed point-per-game Star, and if the return of Ryan Getzlaf can save Elan's bacon in the Rakell over/under bet. Underwhelming crease battles are renewed in Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, and a pair of blueliners come back to man their teams' top powerplay units. In injuries, the guys wonder if there's top pairing scoring potential from either of the Predators' second pairing mainstays, and also if it's time to just save yourself the headache and rid yourself of Kris Letang. Hot streaks this week feature the latest of Connor McDavid's benefactors, John Tavares and his benefactors, Anze Kopitar and his benefactor, Torey Krug, and so many Hurricanes because they figured out how to score. Cold streaks include an Oiler on the outside who should be able to do better for himself, another who maybe shouldn't, and a Devil who doesn't happen to be getting in on any of the 1.5 goals the Devils score each game. The show is interspersed with a mess of conversations about goalie messes. Huge messes. Gross messes. Sad messes. So many goalies making messes. Players mentioned on this episode include Shane Gostisbehere, Alex Galchenyuk, Philip "Phil" Danault, Pavel Buchnevich, Rick Nash, Carey Price, Nick Holden, Michael Grabner, Paul Byron, Jamie Benn, Radek Faksa, Patrick Sharp, John Klingberg, Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Rickard Rakell, Ben Bishop, Andrei Vasilevskiy, not Victor Hedman, Marc-Andre Fleury, Matt Murray, Mark Streit, Ivan Provorov, Roman Josi, Mattias Ekholm, Ryan Ellis, Mike Green, Antti Niemi, Kari Lehtonen, Michal Neuvirth, Steve Mason, James Neal, Viktor Arvidsson, Mike Fisher, Filip Forsberg, Auston Watson, Curtis McElhinney, Justin Schultz, Kris Letang, Joonas Korpisalo, Anton Forsberg, Sergei Bobrovsky, Sam Gagner, Alex Wennberg, Brandon Saad, Zach Werenski, Patrick Maroon, Milan Lucic, Jordan Eberle, Jon Tavares, Nick Leddy, Anze Kopitar, Marian Gaborik, Jordan Stall, Brock McGinn, Victor Rask, Torey Krug, Patrice Bergeron, Mike Cammalleri, Braden Holtby, Jake Allen, Carter Hutton, Connor Hellebuyck, Michael Hutchinson and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes! Do you like Mark Borowiecki? Do you like loud yeses? If yes, then you'll love the opening to this edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast-- and you'll hopefully find some value in the fantasy hockey news, analysis and advice that follows, too! Elan and Brian kick off the show with a visit to the infirmary, where they consider whether there's already a perfectly capable replacement for Kris Letang in Pittsburgh, whether there's anyone even left to play for the Habs, how the heck Cory Conacher found his way back into the Lightning lineup (and use this as a springboard to consider whether Victor Hedman is a top ten keeper defenseman), who the heck this Seth Griffith guy is that appeared in the midst of Marchessault's returns and departures to the lineup, and whether there's any meaning in Pastrnak's injury for Patrice Bergeron's fortunes rest of year. Then they head over to the outfirmary, where they question Avs' management's handling of their should-be-peaking captain, wonder what Chicago's lines will possibly look like going forward, and chatter about whether anyone playing with the Flames' two best forwards is worth owning. In hot streaks, they bicker (again!) over the future of a Duck on fire, a recently snoozing Senator, another blueline producer in Toronto, a Tavares linemate in Brooklyn, a sizeable chunk of the top nine in Minnesota, a Barracuda temporarily(?) evolved into a Shark, the obvious number one goalie in New York, and a guy who is awful but throws a billion hits, so he's got that going for him. And just a couple cold streaks this week, featuring this week's victim of the St Louis Blues shuffle (but is there more to it than that?), a Star whose lost his grip on the coattails he's been riding, and a curiously underperforming super Star whose once long coattails have suddenly shrunk. The show closes off with a few guys Brian tosses in at the end, including a dream sequence still continuing in Carolina, a secretive resurgence in Washington, and the very early seeds of a crease controversy for a Pacific team that's been without one for ages. Another episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, another argument about Steve Mason! Elan and Brian butt heads right off the top over whether a fresh injury to Michal Neuvirth lays out a road to recovery for Steve Mason's 2016-17 season. There's less contention as they unpack the consequences of injuries to bluelines in Carolina and Columbus (btw, is Nick Foligno for real??), and thinner-than-you'd-think top sixes in Los Angeles and Colorado. Outjuries and cold streaks are one and the same this week, as Evander Kane, Hampus Lindholm, Jacob Trouba and former shootout specialist Jussi Jokinen have yet to make an impact since re-joining their teams. Top power-play defensemen are also sputtering in Winnipeg, Florida, Colorado and Calgary-- we'll let you know whether you can expect the outages to continue with those players, as well as a banging Oiler, a quieter wunderkind Maple Leaf, and the entire Senators and Blues rosters. And for every cold blue-liner, there's a hot one-- a Ranger and Coyote are both getting opportunities to make positive first impressions in the NHL, and an oft-cycled Flyer is suddenly hitting people. The guys also give props to streaking masked men in Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Nashville, along with a pair of revived veteran centremen in Minnesota and New Jersey. The show rounds out with three snoozers: players that you might have on your roster without realizing they're no longer doing anything at all for your team. One of them scored 77 points last year, and Elan would drop him for Eric Staal in a shallow league. Players featured on this episode include Steve Mason, Brady Skjei, Anthony DeAngelo, Seth Jones, Nick Foligno, Noah Hanifin, Pekka Rinne, Eric Staal, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Travis Zajac, Mark Scheifele, Connor Hellebuyck, Cam Ward, Eddie Lack, Evander Kane, Hampus Lindholm, Ryan Kesler, Jacob Trouba, Jussi Jokinen, Jonathan Marchessault, Reilly Smith, Vincent Trocheck, Dustin Byfuglien, Patrick Sharp, Jason Spezza, Kari Lehtonen, Antti Niemi, Tyson Barrie, Mark Giordano, Richard Panik, Aaron Ekblad, Auston Matthews, Mark Stone, Kyle Turris, Bobby Ryan, Derrick Brassard, Mike Hoffman, Erik Karlsson, Craig Anderson, Mike Condon, Milan Lucic, Patrick Maroon, Michael del Zotto, Matt Murray, Robby Fabbri, Teuvo Teravainen, Troy Stecher and more. Two sleeps until the NHL regular season begins, but the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast is already in full swing with a new episode jam-packed with all of the latest hockey news and fantasy spin. We start with two awful real-life injuries that have an urgent fantasy impact, suggesting which Penguins and Panthers may get or take a bump while Crosby and Huberdeau are on the shelf. Then, Elan and Brian turn their attention to the NHL's waiver wire, where 3 more-than-serviceable players sit after being surprisingly let go in advance of the season opener. In particular, Brian plays the role of wet blanket to perfection by doubting whether Ondrej Pavelec's waiving means clear skies ahead for Hellebuyck, and also provides his dream scenario for P.A. Parenteau in 2016-17. The guys then roll through some of the season's newest Calder Trophy candidates as news trickles out of which prospects are making their teams out of camp, with stops in Philadelphia, Chicago, Anaheim, Toronto, Columbus and Montreal. Finally, we share all the opening night line combos we've seen and mine them for hints at fantasy fortunes in the year ahead, zeroing in on a top-line winger in Detroit, a questionable piece in Ottawa's top six, an expected shift in Chicago, a rising youngster in Boston, and a multi-generational combo in Arizona. And still, there's more! The Yakupov trade, how to handle injured players, whether to trade for injured players, RFA situations, last-minute IR stashes, pre-season scoring leaders.. and tons more info that'll give you the early upper-hand in your fantasy pool as we head into the season. Players discussed on this episode include Sidney Crosby, Nail Yakupov, David Perron, Kris Russell, Jonathan Huberdeau, Jonathan Marchessault, Alex Steen, Kevin Shattenkirk, Jussi Jokinen, Michael del Zotto, Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, Brayden Schenn, Joonas Korpisalo, Sergei Bobrovsky, Marian Gaborik, Nikita Kucherov, Johnny Gaudreau, Hampus Lindholm, Rasmus Ristolainen, Rickard Rakell, Nick Ritchie, Jacob Trouba, Ondrej Pavelec, Connor Hellebuyck, Michael Hutchinson, P.A. The episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast you've been waiting all summer for: it's Smörgoåliesbord 2016! *kermit-style wildly waving arms and hands motions* Elan and Brian tell you all about goalie tiering: what it is, why you need to do it for your draft, and what info you should use to guide you in your tiering. Then, they share their own 2016-17 tiers! Can Henrik Lundqvist hang on to his well-worn seat in Tier 1? Just how high will Martin Jones rate on the strength of one fantastic year? Should you draft Murray before Fleury, or the other way around? Does Sergei Bobrovsky hold steady or continue free-falling to lower tiers? Is Steve Mason actually better than Michal Neuvirth? Which as-of-now #1 goalies are ripe for the picking, with quality backups chomping at the bit for more time in the crease? We discuss literally-- literally!-- every goalie that has a chance to see time in an NHL crease this season.
