Guest: Alycia Wood, Apologetics, Inc. If you'd like to watch this podcast, check out the PCA YouTube page. Loved chatting with Alycia Wood about life and how to navigate the current cultural chaos with the truth of God's Word. Alycia reminded us that we can use just about anything - movies, music, etc. to engage in meaningful conversations about spiritual and eternal things. C.S. Lewis in The Weight of Glory wrote about how “[t]here are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal.” This is a great reminder that everyone we meet is an eternal being - and will spend an eternity either with God…or separated from God. As we near Easter, let's remember the significance of Jesus coming down to earth to live the perfect life that we couldn't, die the death that we deserve, and then he rose from the grave to defeat sin and death! With so much hopelessness in the world, 1 Peter 3:15 is a great reminder that we, as followers of Jesus Christ, need to be prepared to defend the HOPE that we have in Christ!
Special guests Alycia Wood and Emily Marasco from Apologetics Inc. join to explore the world of Artificial Intelligence and its ethical implications. In this episode, they discuss whether AI is inherently unethical and delve into the creative process behind the technology. Is there a larger purpose behind AI? Also, what is "AI Jesus"?
God has a unique design for men and women to flourish as embodied and sexual beings. To live within this design, to flow with the grain of reality, leads to a thriving life both individually and socially. But what happens when people and cultures start to tear down this design in favor of a subjective and relative view of identity? What does it look like when groups start to do what is right in their own eyes as opposed to the path the loving God has given us? Alycia Wood from Apologetics Inc. chats with Dr. Jeff about these important topics and how vital they are in today's culture and for Generation Z. Nick Shalna interviews Alycia Wood (Speaker at Apologetics Inc) on the topic of the trans movement and how to deal with it as Christians. Most of us wouldn't have a problem agreeing that a girl can't become a boy, but what about all of the minute details that come along with the issue? How do we respond to kids and adults identifying as another gender? What effects do puberty blockers and hormones have on people from a young age when used incorrectly? Happy Wednesday! Today on the podcast, we welcome back Alycia Wood! Alycia shares about her faith journey and the various doubts she experienced as a young woman. She explains why she stepped out of atheism and how she eventually came to know Christ. She also chats about historical facts about Jesus, how Christianity explains the world we live in, and more. Alycia and Janell also chat about why there's so much suffering in the world, the hope for Christians, finding our identity in Christ, and so much more. We hope you enjoy this episode! About Alycia As a child growing up in the church, Alycia always had questions. She wanted to dig deeper into the Christian faith beyond the Sunday morning sermon. That fueled an independent search which led to her digging into the larger questions of life. While studying for a degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology at Robert Wesleyan College, Alycia discovered Apologetics. It changed the course of her life. Her quest for a deeper understanding of her Christianity had a name. She went on to get her Master's in Social Justice from Marygrove College to further her passion for serving those in need in the developing world. This led to various volunteering opportunities at orphanages, prisons, and shelters for the homeless in various countries including Haiti, Honduras and the Dominican Republic. A few years after her travels were completed, she was able to spend a year studying Apologetics in England. Alycia spent many years as a teacher's aide and substitute teacher for multiple grade levels. Following, she has spent over nine years doing full-time apologetics ministry where she travels and speaks on various topics relevant to our culture. She is currently with the C. S. Lewis Society in Tampa. In her spare time, she is an avid sports fan, musician and grower of all things edible in her garden. ____ We would love to thank our Patrons for all their amazing support! Dom and Danielle are joined once again with Alycia Wood to discuss transgenderism. With the rapid uptick in popularity with transgenderism the Church is left with a lot of questions. Most Christians likely have a presuppositional belief concerning transgenderism but more likely do not have a solid apologetic concerning this hot (pressed) button topic. How, as Christians, do we approach transgenderism? That question, and more, are dialogued throughout this two part discussion. Guest: Alycia Wood Alycia Wood spoke to our students during the 2017 Biblical Worldview Institute - check out her presentation titled Engaging Your Mind. PCA's Biblical Worldview Institute (BWi) theme this year is "Anchored in the Faith" and is a response to the primary reasons that people give for “deconstructing” (walking away from) their faith. This incredible conference will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1st and Wednesday, Nov. 2nd. For more information or to register, visit the PCA website. Reasons why people are giving for walking away from their faith: Not enough evidence for the Bible, resurrection, etc. Personal morality conflict with Biblical morality - sexual orientation, gender identity, etc. The Christians I know are hypocrites so their God must be fake, too. Christianity and science are at odds with each other. There are two parts of deconstructionism - one negative, one positive. If a person throws off ideas just because others believe it, that can be a positive element of a person making their own personal faith. Reconstruction is as important as the deconstruction concept. God isn't afraid of your questions. The problem comes when a person can't make some “puzzle pieces” of life fit, so they leave it unfinished and walk away from the table. Excellent resources to consider: The Revenge of Conscience: Politics and the Fall of Man by J. Budziszewski The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self by Dr. Carl Trueman Thank you to Jared Wood for allowing The Journey to use his incredible musical gifts and talents as our intro and outro for this podcast.
