Brendan Ahern, chief investment officer at KraneShares and the author of the China Last Night blog, says that the government of China is "doing the things that Trump wants them to be doing" for domestic policy purposes, which is why he sees the signs of a U.S.-China trade deal in the works. He says in The Big Interview that neither side can win in a trade war, but that both sides can move forward sharply and strongly with agreement, even if tariff levels remain high and in place indefinitely. Ahern says that "the worst is behind us" on dollar weakness, noting that he doesn't expect the Federal Reserve to cut rates until later in the year, allowing the dollar to stabilize in the interim while tariff policies are being finalized. Bob Powell, retirement columnist at TheStreet.com discusses government projections showing that standard monthly premiums for Medicare Part B will rise by more than 11 percent in 2026, and will likely be subjected to higher-than-expected increases potentially for the next decade. Plus, Allison Hadley, an analyst at Digital Third Coast, discusses research on how Americans are using Google in AI mode and how it is changing their search results, how they shop, find advice, access news and more.

It was almost three years ago when Rhode Island became the 19th state to legalize adult-use recreational marijuana. Supporters praised the move as a way to generate state revenue, keep money from migrating to Massachusetts and ensure a safe product for users. Rhode Island''s approach was touted for including so-called social equity elements to help people hurt by the war on drugs. Three years later, though, the state has yet to move ahead with issuing licenses for 24 new pot shops. There are also questions about the effect of legalizing recreational marijuana. So what does a key state official have to say about driving while stoned? When will Rhode Island actually move ahead with awarding licenses for new pot shops? And will the state's legalization law really live up to the billing about promoting social equity? This week on Political Roundtable, I'm going in-depth with Kim Ahern, chairwoman of the state Cannabis Control Commission.
Roxanne Ahern and Katherine Pakalak, join Ashley to discuss the pressing issue of declining birth rates and the cultural implications of antinatalism. They explore the grim trends in population decline, the societal and technological factors influencing family dynamics, and the potential future of family structures. The conversation emphasizes the need for a cultural shift to support larger families and the importance of articulating the desirability of children in modern society. Roxanne, Katherine, and Ashley explore the intricate relationship between technology and human weaknesses, the critique of hyper-tech optimism, the paradox of women's happiness in the context of modern societal expectations, the complexity of childbearing choices, and the joy of parenthood. They discuss how technology can alleviate and exacerbate human challenges, the societal pressures on women regarding family and career, and the personal choices that lead to varying family dynamics. In this conversation, the speakers discuss the complexities of family planning, the risks associated with delaying parenthood, and the role of faith in shaping attitudes toward children. They emphasize the importance of intentionality in family planning and challenge societal norms prioritizing career over family. The discussion also highlights the value of children as blessings and the need for a supportive community in navigating family life.
Social graces and a social life—we want our children to have both. At Wilberforce, we regularly state that education is formation—the importance of teaching the whole child. Our school's culture is deliberately faculty-led, meaning faculty come alongside students in life—not only inviting them into the great conversation but also modeling how to live, think, and relate to others as mature Christians. This requires social graces to be successful. Listen in as Dr. Ahern and Dr. James discuss why manners matter, why we have dances, and how manners impact our social lives.

Baidu (BIDU) shares are slumping after the company saw profits decline last quarter. Brendan Ahern of Kraneshares said that the company's outlook is being hurt by the lack of stimulus and growth in the Chinese economy. White the stock is cheap, Ahern thinks there are other Chinese-based stocks like Alibaba (BABA) and Tencent (TCEHY) that may be better positioned until a trade deal with the U.S. is reached.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

Costume designer Kristen P Ahern has been thinking about sustainability since childhood, when her parents, her mother in particular, instilled in her a passion for environmental responsibility. As an adult, she has centered that passion in her art, in 2018 founding Conscious Costume, an information-and-resources clearinghouse with a clear vision: “Every costume created in harmony with people and planet.” Although Kristen now lives in Pittsburgh, PA, she still has deep roots in Chicago, where she designed for several theaters and also managed a few costume shops in the area. Chicago is also where Conscious Costume's costumes-rental facility continues to operate, giving area designers and theaters greater access to reusable materials and costumes. It is also in Chicago that Kristen, during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, created Artist Resource Mobilization (ARM), an organization that matched out-of-work designers and costume-shop artists with mask-production opportunities. In the pandemic's most dire year and a half, Artist Resource Mobilization was able to provide garment artists with $35,000.In this interview, Kristen explains what responsible costume design and production entails and offers a primer in how designers and costume shops can take small-to-large steps to ensure they protect the well-being of their onstage and behind-the-scenes artists as well as the environment.https://www.kristenp.com/https://www.consciouscostume.com/

In this month's MoNo Encore episode, we revisit one of the strangest cases ever covered on this show, in my humble opinion. On October 24th, 1961, one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in Massachusetts history began when housewife and mother Joan Risch vanished from her home. Investigators were perplexed by a kitchen floor smeared with blood, a telephone receiver ripped from the wall and placed gently on the edge of a trash basket, and a bloodhound who traced her scent to the middle of her driveway. Later, drivers would report seeing someone resembling Joan stumbling along local highways, apparently dazed and injured. My guest, Stephen Ahern, is author of "A Kitchen Painted in Blood: The Unsolved Disappearance of Joan Risch". He teamed up with a retired FBI profiler and a cold case detective to try and piece together a possible explanation of what happened to Joan that fateful day. Sometimes, the W-2 job isn't an option, and you have to look for alternatives. When Megan Ahern's husband was ready to exit the Marines, they knew they needed to look at alternate career paths. On this episode of Zen and the Art of Real Estate Investing, Jonathan interviews Megan Ahern, a rebel turned real estate investor who's been steadily investing in Lincoln, Nebraska, since 2018 with her husband. When Jeff, Megan's husband, was medically released from the Marines, they went all in on real estate investing. Together, they've had more than 80 units in and around Lincoln. Megan also owns a staging company, and they have experience investing in sober living homes. Jonathan and Megan open their conversation by exploring why Megan and her husband chose Lincoln, Nebraska, to invest and how she got her husband on the same page with investing. You'll hear how they initially found properties, why using hard money eventually limited the size of the flips she could do, and how building relationships with local lenders helped expand the business. She shares the role of reputation and authenticity in her success, how they decide whether or not to keep a property, and what she loves about sober living properties. Megan explains why she's looking for more mid-term rentals, her seven-plex nightmare property, and what drew her into the staging business. Finally, Jonathan and Megan cover why staging matters in flipping homes, her advice for new flippers, and how becoming a licensed agent helped their business. Megan is a seasoned flipper whose advice you won't want to miss if flipping is on your radar. Every week more and more Democrats are expressing frustration with American policy on Israel and the war in Gaza. Some heavyweights, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, are now even joining the call for the U.S. to stop arms transfers to Israel. Senator Bernie Sanders has been one of the loudest voices on this issue. At 82 years old, he manages to be the voice of young liberals, and warns that if President Biden doesn't change tack on the Israel war, and doesn't expand his economic policy for working families, he could lose in November. Senator Sanders joins Christiane from Washington. Then, the unbelievable life story of the newly elected New York City Council Member Yusef Salaam. He was just 15 when he, and four other teens, were falsely accused of raping a jogger in central park in 1989. The media went all-out, assuming their guilt and the group became known as the "Central Park Five.” Salaam spent nearly seven years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. He and the others were exonerated after the real perpetrator confessed and submitted DNA to prove it. But Salaam refused to be beaten by bitterness, and began this year being sworn in as the councilor for Harlem. He speaks with Christiane about all of it as they sit down together in Manhattan. This Sunday marks a decade since terror became reality in Chibok, Nigeria, sparking a global cry to 'bring back our girls', when nearly 300 innocent students were kidnapped by Boko Haram militants. Many of those taken have yet to return home. And kidnapping has become a recurring horror in the country. Now, CNN's Stephanie Busari takes us to where tragedy unfolded, as part of CNN's ongoing series on gender inequality called As Equals. Also in this week's show, Bill Weir, CNN's Chief Climate Correspondent who has spent years covering our warming planet, says there is still room for hope, despite all the despair surrounding climate change. His book , ‘Life as we know it (can be)', goes on sale on April 16th. He joins Christiane in New York. From the Amanpour Archive: With war raging in Gaza, the Israeli Palestinian conflict may feel more intractable than ever. Peace may feel like a distant possibility. But there was a time when Northern Ireland felt like that too. After decades of brutal sectarian conflict and terrorist violence, its leaders and its people bravely chose peace. And this week they celebrated 26 years since the Good Friday Agreement that secured it. It remains one of the United States' greatest diplomatic triumphs as President Bill Clinton and Senator George Mitchell brokered the talks. Along with British Prime minister tony Blair and Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, and of course Northern Irish leaders themselves, they got the deal over the line. And last year, on its 25th anniversary Christiane travelled to Belfast to speak to Clinton, Blair, and Ahern. A peacemaker's reunion. We revisit some of that historic conversation. We end the hour with a little opera for the soul. And a history making show at the Met in New York. “Fire Shut Up In My Bones” by the Grammy-award winning trumpeter Terence Blanchard, made history as the first work by a Black composer at the Metropolitan Opera in its 138-year history. And now it's back. Christiane went to the Metropolitan Opera House to meet him. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

For nearly 40 years I've been working, studying, learning and training in all the different ways to create deep and lasting change not only in my life, but in the lives of those I meet who are seeking something more. Really my Resume reads more like an adventure novel rather than a recommendation for work. My travels led me to experiencing the blessings and privelege of meeting some wonderful enlightened masters who schooled me in the lessons of many great beings. Through their great patience, wisdom and skill, and my own dedicated practice of the tools they imparted, I have developed confidence and an unshakeable faith in the power of our human capacity to create the life we truly want to live. Change can be relatively easy. "It all depends on how you look at it."
