If you have a strong-willed child, you know how much energy they require—and if you have other kids too, you've probably wondered what this dynamic is doing to their siblings. Are they getting lost in the shuffle? Will they resent their brother or sister? Will they resent you? Many parents worry that their quieter child is fading into the background while the spicy one commands all the attention. And even though you're doing your best, it's hard to know how to protect all your kids when one requires so much more support. In this week's episode, I talked with Mary Van Geffen, author of the brand new book Parenting A Spicy One: Raising a Strong-Willed Child Without Breaking Their Spirit or Yours. Mary brings both personal experience as a former spicy child herself and professional expertise as a parenting educator, and she teaches us how to navigate sibling relationships in a way that protects everyone—including the child you might not realize needs protecting. In this episode, you'll learn:

Kevin McCallister just wanted to make his family disappear. The next morning he woke up and the bossy, critical, and negative group of people were gone. He was all alone, able to do whatever he wanted. Our culture loves this story because it personifies the central belief of the American dream—you can be your own person, set your own agenda, and pursue your own dreams. And, even if a couple robbers show up, you have it in yourself to save yourself and your house. Think about it, our most known document is the Declaration of Independence. But here is the problem, this pursuit doesn’t work and actually leads to loneliness, despair, and hopelessness. The Bible compares us to sheep for a reason. Left to themselves, sheep will get stuck, fall off a cliff, or get eaten by a wolf. Sheep need a shepherd. When Jesus declares His name to be “The Good Shepherd,” He is connecting Himself to multiple Old Testament passages, including Psalm 23 and Micah 5,promising a future Shepherd for God’s people. Not only does the Good Shepherd love, care for, and feed His sheep, but He also gives them a flock where they truly belong. And He gives us a purpose that is way bigger than ourselves. The path to an abundant and fulfilling life is found not in our independence, but in our dependence on the Good Shepherd.

We talk booby traps that would make Home Alone's Kevin McCallister proud (and slightly terrified), a sleigh-load of festive carnage, and why Harbour's grumpy, hammer‑swinging Saint Nick is the gift that keeps on giving. We also get into the film's weaker links: John Leguizamo and his band of baddies, who never quite match the energy of their mythic opponent, and the terminally irritating wealthy family Santa is forced to save — a group so unlikeable you almost start rooting for the villains. It's messy, it's merry, it's miraculously fun. On this episode we break down the new Epstein files dump and why Bill Clinton comes out looking the worst, from nearly naked hot-tub photos with an unidentified woman to vacation shots with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell in the UK, Brunei, Thailand, Morocco and beyond, plus cozy dinners with Mick Jagger and even Michael Jackson while the DOJ hides behind heavy redactions and an incomplete “document dump” that's already being called a violation of the Epstein Transparency Act. We talk about Clinton's team insisting this isn't about him, the aide calling it “his reckoning,” the light touch on Trump in the files, and what this all says about who gets protected. Then we dive into the brutal Nick Reiner case: his schizophrenia diagnosis, new meds that allegedly left him “out of his head,” the explosive fight with Rob Reiner at Conan O'Brien's holiday party where guests wanted to call 911 and Conan shut it down, Rob telling friends he was “petrified” of his own son, and how Nick ends up charged with murdering both parents while preparing a not-guilty plea. From there we hit a slate of stories including the disturbing details around “Pulp Fiction” actor Peter Greene's bloody apartment death, the viral breakdown of how Kevin McCallister's legendary $19.83 “Home Alone” grocery run would cost around $70 in 2025, the ugly MAGA media civil war with Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Ben Shapiro and Nick Fuentes tearing into each other, the internet dragging people for wearing fur-hood parkas wrong, and Pantone's new “Cloud Dancer” Color of the Year that somehow manages to make the whole world sad beige.#BillClinton#EpsteinFiles#NickReinerGet more AoA and become a member to get exclusive access to perks:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOfx0OFE-uMTmJXGPpP7elQ/joinGet Erin C's book here: https://amzn.to/3ITDoO7Get Merch here - https://bit.ly/AnthonyMerchSubscribe to the Anthony On Air Podcast here:Facebook - https://bit.ly/AntOnAirFBYouTube - https://bit.ly/AntOnAirYTApple Podcast - https://bit.ly/AntOnAirAppleSpotify - https://bit.ly/AntOnAirSpotTwitter - https://bit.ly/AntOnAirTwitterInstagram - https://bit.ly/AntOnAirInstaTikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@anthonyonairpodDiscord - https://discord.gg/78V469aV22Get more at https://www.AnthonyOnAir.com.

TALK TO ME, TEXT ITCoffee in hand, we start with a quick Friday pulse check and a question many government workers and contractors are asking: will Christmas Eve and the day after be official days off, and what does that mean if you're not a direct federal employee? That everyday uncertainty sets a grounded tone as we move into tougher terrain: a newly appointed city official stepping down after antisemitic posts resurface, and what real accountability looks like when social media receipts don't disappear. From there, we pivot to a bit of cultural nostalgia with real-world bite: re-pricing Kevin McCallister's famous $19.83 grocery run from Home Alone using current Chicago-area numbers. The updated total—hovering in the mid-$50s with a coupon—offers a tangible snapshot of inflation, shrinkflation, and the trade-offs families make at the register. It's a moment that turns a movie gag into a practical conversation about everyday costs, brand swaps, and the budget math we all do in our heads before checkout. We close by bringing the focus back to community and choice. After headlines and price tags, what can we control? We ask about seasonal volunteering—small acts, local drives, and ways to show up that don't require perfect schedules or deep pockets. That simple prompt threads the episode together: public trust, household budgets, and the meaning we create when we put our time where our values are.If this resonated, tap follow, share it with a friend who loves Home Alone trivia and real talk about costs, and leave a quick review to help others find the show. Send us a textA John Hughes/Chris Columbus joint, Home Alone is the heartwarming tale of an upper-middle-class family who go to Paris and accidentally leave their youngest child behind like an extra carry-on they didn't feel like paying for. Eight-year-old Kevin McCallister—played by a pint-sized, eyebrow-acting Macaulay Culkin—responds to this minor hiccup by eating junk food, watching gangster movies, and turning his house into a suburban Saw trap for two burglars whose crime is mostly being too stupid to quit. Those burglars are Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, delivering what may be cinema's most sustained assault on human skulls outside of a cartoon. In a way, Home Alone is basically It's a Wonderful Life if George Bailey wished everyone away and immediately started committing war crimes against local criminals. While Catherine O'Hara panics her way across continents and John Heard quietly realizes he's a terrible father, Kevin learns that family matters… but also that you can permanently disable two grown men with household items. It's Christmas magic, but with more concussions and far fewer angels getting their wings.

A $3M widow, a $50K income gap, and a plan that finally made sense—this is what real retirement clarity sounds like. Kevin McCallister’s Plaza Hotel spree is a fun throwback—until you compare what it would cost today and realize how fast prices (and big life goals) have changed. From NYC “experience” trips to an Investopedia breakdown suggesting millions are needed to fund the modern American dream, the conversation turns to the real issue: most people nearing retirement don’t actually know what they can afford to risk. Greg and Kristen unpack why “water cooler” investing advice—especially among high earners—can be misleading when nobody knows each other’s full financial picture, timeline, or true retirement needs. Then they share a powerful client story: a widowed woman with roughly $3 million saved who needed $50,000 a year on top of Social Security and a pension—and finally got a plan aligned with her comfort level (including protected income, protected growth, and long-term growth). The result? Confidence—and tears of relief.

This week on The 3 Retro Movie Geeks, Christmas comes early as we dive into the festive chaos of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York! With Scott mysteriously lost somewhere in the Big Apple (we suspect he followed a trail of cheese pizza), Rob and Paul hold down the fort — and welcome back the ever-brilliant Marc Parslow, along with our special guest Wayne Thrussell, for this Christmas special edition. We revisit Kevin McCallister's second accidental solo adventure, from his luxury stay at the Plaza Hotel to the sticky showdown with the Wet Bandits — now the Sticky Bandits! Expect plenty of laughs as we break down the film's most iconic moments, including the Talkboy, the toy store heist, that epic pigeon lady scene, and whether Harry and Marv could ever survive Kevin's traps in real life. We also unwrap the film's festive charm, its Christmas soundtrack, behind-the-scenes trivia, and why this sequel has become a holiday staple for families everywhere. Grab your hot chocolate, avoid any suspiciously slippery pavements, and join us as we relive one of the most beloved Christmas movies of the 90s.

Have you ever felt completely alone, even in a crowded room? Through the lens of "Home Alone," Pastor Dave explores how isolation affects us all—from Kevin McCallister's cry for family to King David's desperate psalms. When we're hurting, we often retreat and put up false fronts, like Kevin's elaborate mannequin scheme, rather than embracing authentic connection. But just as Kevin discovered in that powerful church scene with Mr. Marley, healing begins when we turn on the light and face our fears. God stands ready, knocking at the door of our hearts, offering relationship and restoration. This inspiring message reminds us that no matter how far we've wandered, we're just one step away from coming home to God's transformative presence. Watch now to discover how to move from isolation to restoration!Psalm 142:3-4 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, Then you knew my path. In the way in which I walk They have secretly set a snare for me. 4 Look on my right hand and see, For there is no one who acknowledges me; Refuge has failed me; No one cares for my soul.1 Kings 19:4 (message) He came to a lone broom bush and collapsed in its shade, wanting in the worst way to be done with it all—to just die: “Enough of this, God! Take my life—I'm ready to join my ancestors in the grave!” Exhausted, he fell asleep under the lone broom bush.John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Tuesday is here and the weather is going to be beautiful! 62° and mostly sunny today. Took down most of the Halloween decorations yesterday. Got a few more left today and then getting the Christmas stuff on the house. On the show today, we let you know what's on TV today/tonight and what's new on New Release Tuesday and we talked to Grant Bilse of the Wisco Sports Show just after 8am. Week 9 of the NFL regular season finished up last night with the Cowboys losing to the Cardinals, so we took a look at our Pigskin Picks…and it's not getting any better for Jean. We talked about tonight's Mega Millions drawing, the AC/DC show at Camp Randall Stadium that got announced yesterday, and an update on 3i/Atlas!!! In sports, the Bucks got a nice win over Indy last night, the Badgers men's basketball team kicked off it's regular season with a victory, Tucker Kraft is officially OUT for the rest of the season, and Cam Little got "randomly" drug tested by the NFL after his historic 68-yard field goal on Sunday! Yesterday, People magazine announced it's "Sexiest Man Alive" on Jimmy Fallon's show, and Macaulay Culkin recently reprised his role as Kevin McCallister from "Home Alone" in an ad for Home Instead. Plus, is "Wheel of Fortune" getting too raunchy? Great story about a couple of farm workers in California who helped save a bunch of kids from a burning bus, and another story from California where three brothers found a mint Superman comic #1 in their mother's attic after she passed away. A recent poll found that the average parent has to answer 46 questions a day from their child. YIKES! Even though Thanksgiving is still weeks away, we had a couple of turkey-day related stories this morning, including a new Thanksgiving-flavored Oreo collection, and Amazon's $25 Thanksgiving meal. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a woman who lied about finding a needle in her child's Halloween candy and is now facing charges, a woman in Pennsylvania who tried to light a crack pipe while in a hospital bed and suffered severe burns, a man in Virginia who went shopping at Walmart without any clothes on, and a hockey coach who got fired after he wore a Nazi costume to a Halloween party.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Mike back on the show as we discuss the 1985 dark comdey After Hours.  In this Marin Scorsese directed love story to the seedier side of New York, an American Werewolf is just trying to get home after a terrible date, but just can't seem to pay his way back.  Apparently in 1985, it was ok to leave the house in NYC with $20 and expect round trip service (and pay for a date too).  This cast is deep, with a lot of up and comers (including Kevin McCallister's parents) and E&N fav Teri Garr.  Scorsese aways mixes laughs into even his hardest dramas, but it's nice to see a straight up comedy from one of the all time greats.  We all had a great time discussing this all-time classic.  Enjoy the podcast!

It's PART 3 of a four-part Christmas series, Pastor Adam Martin and host Joey Svendsen talk about the 1990s Christmas Movie that took American culture by storm, Home Alone.  Given the main character, Kevin McCallister, (played by Macaulay Culkin), was left home alone during the holidays, in this discussion Adam delves into why social isolation is so common in the real world, more and more people finding themselves alone even during the holidays.  Adam has a doctorates in counseling and Joey takes advantage of this time with him to probe into various mental health issues.  It turns out that people can be hurt so badly by others, many are willing to even forfeit closeness with anyone ever again, in order to keep from feeling that sort of hurt again. At the top of the episode, the host crew discuss "silly violence" in movies like Home Alone and in cartoons like Tom & Jerry, contrasting them with disturbing violence in video games like Grand Theft Auto. Rivka and Frank welcome back Evan from Left of the Projector podcast to discuss the upper-middle-class fever dream that is Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Could this movie even exist if Kevin McCallister weren't a white affluent child? Zero percent chance. The condescension, the entitlement, the PIGEON LADY. They talk about it all, plus who Mr. Duncan would have supported in the 2020 Democratic primary.  Left of the Projector Party for Socialism and Liberation For next week's movie, we'll be watching the 1988 Bill Murray Christmas classic, Scrooged.
