If you are reading this, if you are connected somehow to THECHURCH.DIGITAL, then you probably realize this already. If not, let me tell you… you are more than a techie. In my own life, I've wrestled with this. And in our physical, phygital, digital-only, multimodal churches we as techies come to this place where we realize we are more than button pushers. I think this is what makes this conversation with Curtis so interesting. Starting out as a Creative, growing to a Techie… Curtis discovered God was leading him along a different path than what he was planning… God was developing the heart of a shepherd. As Curtis shows us, when God moves our heart from tech to shepherd, we discover more of who He is… showing us where we are not aligned. Our desire, the necessity, for our physical and digital churches to be multicultural comes out of this heart… Complete Show Notes and Online Video Available at THECHURCH.DIGITAL --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thechurchdigital/message

Curtis Boyd, CEO and founder of Objection Co tells Geordie about coming up with the idea for his SaaS company, getting his first customer, and growing it to 30,000 MRR As technology grows and many businesses move their operations online, reputation becomes critical. Curtis Boyd, a skilled online reputation management professional, talks to Geordie about his journey. Listen to the podcast for some insights on protecting your business reputation online.  What You’ll Learn What Objection Co does for its customers How Objection Co deals with churn How much is the Objection Co license? Why reviews are critical for business progression and increased profits What sets Objection Co apart from its competitors? How did Curtis transition from an agency to SaaS? Why offering low prices for your product is not a good idea.  In this Episode:  Technological advancements come with challenges and limitations. For example, adopting digital processes for your business helps you reach a wider audience. However, sometimes you will have to struggle with fake reviews, often from malicious competitors. If you have been facing similar challenges, Curtis, formerly a nursing assistant, is here to help.  Curtis says Objection Co specializes in building technology that helps identify and contest fake reviews on websites like Yelp and Google. The ideal Objection Co customer is the entrepreneur who is struggling with illegitimate or fake reviews written by malicious competitors or customers, disgruntled employees, or even bots. At what point does Objection Co come in to assist your business? Find out from the podcast. Curtis also explains how they go about identifying fake reviews.  Churn can be a significant problem, especially for a business like Objection Co. Curtis agrees that they had struggled with churn before, which left him frustrated at some point. However, he had to develop a robust strategy to address this matter, and he talks about it in-depth in the podcast. Listen and find out the technique he used, and whether it was successful.  Pricing is one of the main factors that customers consider before paying for a service. Curtis talks about their license charges and expounds on what the price covers. If you are considering Objection Co services, you do not want to miss this part of the podcast.  Many entrepreneurs are willing to pay any amount to maintain a good reputation online if Curtis’s interesting background story is anything to go by. He tells Geordie how a doctor approached and requested that he have his (the doctor’s) negative reviews deleted. Having zero experience, Curtis called every company he knew would assist to no avail. At some point, he spent nearly half of his savings to travel overseas in search of a solution. You should listen to this part of the podcast to understand the importance of a good review and the impact of a bad review.  After struggling to get a solution, Curtis finally met someone who took him through the process of removing bad reviews. He later managed to assist the doctor, who paid him a whopping $32,000 and introduced him to other clients. At this point, Curtis quit nursing to venture into the reputation management industry.   Curtis would later go back to school, where he studied computer science and learned how to code. He then built software, marking the birth of Objection Co. Curtis used the software to read reviews, eliminating the need to do so manually. As Curtis became more conversant with artificial intelligence and machine learning, he realized that fake reviews hurt consumers more than entrepreneurs. He explains this concept in the podcast. Listen in and learn.  Curtis sought help in writing and building the Objection Co MVP, a team he says was a total nightmare. Find out why from the podcast. He would later find a different great team which he liked. Listen to the podcast as Curtis narrates the exciting details of how he flew to Ukraine and ended up acquiring a development team. Transitioning from an agency to SaaS can be a daunting task. At some point, Curtis and his team lost some of their clients. Listen to the podcast to understand strategies that Curtis used to facilitate the transition process. During Covid, Curtis says they lost a chunk of customers, seeing that everything shut down. He explains how they coped with the situation before online reviews became critical. According to Curtis, 2020 was one of their best years. He concludes the podcast by explaining the structure of Objective Co financing. Resources Curtis Boyd LinkedIn Objection Co Curtis Boyd Twitter

29. 6 Credibility Strategies from Curtis Blair, Who Led 5 Companies to Multimillion-Dollar Valuations

Monetization Nation Podcast

Credibility is becoming increasingly important in business. Potential customers don't trust as easily as they once did, so it is much more important that we do everything we can to build strong relationships of trust, be honest, and be real in those relationships. In today's episode, Curtis Blair and I discuss how to build stronger credibility in our relationships. Curtis has led five companies to multimillion-dollar status. His most recent success was leading a marketing company from zero to $12 million in four years. He's directed marketing teams for the international brand Fila. In addition to being an incredible businessperson, he is also an amazing person.   1. The Three Rs of Credibility Marketing: Real, Raw, Relevant   Curtis remembers an ad from when Instagram first became popular. A celebrity was walking through the airport, and she was pulling a very beautiful luggage piece, one that could be used for an executive or fashion model. It was a very versatile, nice-looking bag. She described the wheels, the ball bearings, the handle, the three different sizes, the many pockets, and it was supposed to be off the cuff like, “Hey, I just got off the plane, and I love my piece of luggage.” However, it was just so inauthentic. So much so that it was almost done in poor taste. At the time, there were a lot of social influencers being paid big dollars to do advertising, but it didn't take very long for people to realize that the ad was inauthentic. Curtis says there are three key ingredients to developing social capital. They are being real, being raw, and being relevant. This means we must be organic, consistent, dynamic, entertaining, thought-provoking, a little vulnerable, and share stories that are compelling. With so much being fake online, it is important for us to be authentic because our customers can tell the difference. It is something that is qualitative, not quantitative. One way we can be more authentic is to share a backstory from our company. People love to hear what is going on behind the scenes. As we provide that to our audience, whether that is employees, customers, shareholders, or vendors, we can improve our social capital. “If we don't find ourselves being a little bit more real, a little bit more raw, and a little bit more relevant, we will be left behind.” -Curtis Blair   2. Adding Value in Our Relationships   When we are trying to grow meaningful relationships, in business or in our personal lives, one key piece is to add value to the relationship and to reciprocate the value that the other person has added to the relationship. We have to be very careful when approaching relationships that we are adding value to. There are appropriate times to ask for something, but it's important when we receive something like a piece of great advice not only to attribute where that came from but also to pay it forward. We should give value in return. Part of adding social credibility and adding to the credibility capital is taking what we've learned and paying it forward. Our relationships need to be considered priorities. There can be a shared feeling of trust and belonging in relationships, but those feelings if not constantly nurtured can fade.  Recently, Curtis sold a business. During the transition phase, he was trying to help the new owners figure things out. They were asking Curtis questions that he knew he had answered for them before, but he could tell there was something else going on. He swallowed his pride and helped them go through it again. He did his best to help them, to resolve any fears or concerns they had, and to really truly answer the questions they were asking. He didn't give any excuses or try to take over by saying this is what I would do. He just let them figure it out and grow from it. Sometimes adding value means that we have to put our egos in our back pockets for a moment and just make sure that we're delivering a relevant and important response or comment.    3. Credibility from Experts and Outside Sources   It is much better for someone else with a tremendous amount of credibility and clout to say something good about us than it is for us to say about ourselves. How much more credible is it when Oprah says that someone has a meaningful book or podcast than when they say it themselves? How much more credible would it be if Liam Neeson were to tell me I was a great actor or if Elton John were to say that someone was a great musician?  That credibility is much more powerful than if someone were to say it about themselves. We're witnessing this in politics, entertainment, and business. It's even prevalent on a smaller scale; most students won't take a class from a professor unless they've heard about them from someone else, which is how websites like RateMyProfessors.com thrive.  “Credibility is a leader's currency. With it, he or she is solvent; without it, he or she is bankrupt.” -John C. Maxwell, American author, speaker, and pastor   4. Hard Times Grow Relationships, Build Character, and Encourage Innovation   One of the secrets of credibility is being there in the hard times. When you have to take a stand or when you go through something tough with someone, it builds a deeper relationship and deeper credibility in the relationship because they know they can trust us to be there for them when times are tough. We can't just be there when times are good; we have to be there when it's hard to be there for them.  In a business sense, we can apply this to when an employee or customer is going through something tough. Perhaps they're sick with COVID or their spouse is going through cancer. Maybe a customer is facing bankruptcy and we let them out of the contract that we didn't have to let them out of. When we are there for people in times like these, that's when we can build some of the most loyalty and the most credibility capital. When we do something for somebody when they really need help, that's one of the key secrets to building relationships that last. As Curtis gets together with his associates and friends that helped him get to where he is, they don't talk about their successes or the great things they've done. They talk about the hard things; they talk about the scars and the battle wounds, discussing the lessons they've learned. It's during those times that character really shines, that's when the rubber meets the road. Leadership and character are defined in those dark moments.  Hard times encourage us to innovate in ways that we wouldn't have if things had stayed the same. Curtis thinks that there will be more creativity, more innovation, and more market segment verticals opened up to us because of this COVID crisis than we would have seen in five years had everything just stayed status quo. He's seen it in his own marketing businesses, in the campaigns that they're drawing up, in the customer journeys that they're mapping out for clients. We are becoming much more creative, engaged, and vulnerable. We'll be able to come out of a crisis like this with our chins up and our heads held high. True character, true innovations, and some of the greatest thought leaders will come out of our communities during these times.   5. Fill Our Networks with People We Want to be Like   “The less you associate with some people, the more your life will improve. Any time you tolerate mediocrity in others, it increases your mediocrity. An important attribute in successful people is their impatience with negative thinking and negative acting people.” -Colin Powell, Former United States Secretary of State When Curtis moved from Connecticut to Colorado, he noticed there was a change in style. His friends in Connecticut had worn black rock T-shirts. In Colorado, 501 button-fly jeans were in style. Curtis realized that location and association matter. Most of your Facebook friends live within a 100-mile radius. Most kids choose colleges within a 30-minute drive from their home.  It's been shown in socioeconomic studies that suicide and obesity are happening in networks and pockets of communities. The same can be true of positive things. So as we think about the concept of belonging, it is important that we respect the law of association. We become like those we surround ourselves with. We become a part of their social network and rub off on each other. Hopefully, we can surround ourselves with the kind of people we want to be like, as well as be the kind of person that other people want to be around. For me, Curtis Blair is definitely one of those people I want to be like.   6. Experts and Thought Leaders   When I asked Curtis who is the person who has the most credibility for him in his life and why, he told me that it changes every week. He is reading a new book every week, but it is always the person he is investing time in who's an expert and who's a thought leader. This comes back to the same common principle; the person most credible to us is an expert who is giving us great advice. In that relationship, there's trust, respect, thought leadership, speaking from a place of experience, and speaking from a place of vulnerability. Connect with Curtis If you enjoyed this interview and want to learn more about Curtis or connect with him, you can find him on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/curtisbblair.  Key Takeaways Thank you so much Curtis for sharing your stories and knowledge with us today. Here are some of my key takeaways from this episode: Be real, raw, and relevant in our marketing. Our customers can tell when we're being inauthentic. Add value to our relationships and prioritize those relationships. Sometimes adding value means swallowing our pride and letting the other person figure things out on their own. When experts, customers, and other credible sources talk about us, it is much more credible than when we talk about ourselves. Be there for people during the hard times to establish stronger relationships. Surround ourselves with people we want to be like. Listen to experts and thought leaders who speak from experience and vulnerability. Want to be a Better Digital Monetizer? Did you like today's episode? Curtis Lamb has been through more serious health diseases in his young life than anyone I have ever met, yet he remains a man full of joy, hope, purpose, and faith.   Upon meeting Curtis a few short years ago, I new right away that he had a quite a story. It's not everyday you meet people who love life so much that you can see it in their countenance and in their eyes. I saw exactly that the first time I met Curtis at a networking event, and felt of his passionate and kind spirit immediately. We connected on social media after meeting, and as I paid attention to his posts, which always had uplifting and inspiring content, I dug a little deeper to see if I could get a glimpse of who he really is and what his past was like. It didn't take long, Facebook "stalking", to find pictures of Curtis riding in Cancer charity events which of course peaked my interest. Shortly after that I saw pictures of him in a hospital, laying on a hospital bed with tubes attached to his body. It was obvious that Curtis had experience some traumatic health issues in his life, but the thing that stood out to me the most was not the tubes or the bandages, it was the smile he seemed to always have in his pictures. As I read about his experiences I realized that he had been through multiple challenges and traumatic health diagnoses, and when I started this podcast I knew that I needed him to come share his story.   Living with Lymphoma for over 20 years of his life is a crazy story in and of itself, but that is just the beginning for Curtis. He shares with us experiences surrounding being diagnosed with Liver Disease, and the overwhelming odds of surviving it. Instead of accepting the Doctors approach to "managing" this disease in hopes to beat it, Curtis held onto hope which lead to faith and action. He took it to God and with faith moved forward with an alternate form of healing after many hours of prayer and research. He talks about the miracle that occurred for him during this process and how the Doctors responded with much surprise each time he would come for follow up check ups. He shares that his two boys and the idea of getting married again and having an eternal family kept him going and focused on hope for a full recovery.   Shortly after his health came back he met his now wife and talks about his gratitude not only for her but for everything that had happened, trauma and all, to get him to the point of meeting her. He shares of his Trust in God's plan for our lives and perfect timing. Sounds like a happy ending right? Psych!!   A small lump on his arm, that wouldn't go away, caused him to question it and fortunately his wife, who works in the medical field, was smart enough to put the right amount of pressure on him to have it looked at. The Doctors decided to do a cat scan and when the called him to tell him the results, he was informed that he needed to get to an Oncology specialist immediately. Come to find out he had an Aneurysm that needed immediate attention! While he was getting ready to go under for surgery, he received a phone call from the same Doctor who preformed the cat scan who informed him that he had cancer... As Curtis shares his feelings during this experience, he talks about Miracles, and that he was grateful for Cancer because it was the motivation that took him to the Doctors who were alerted to the Aneurysm. He shares his witness of God's awareness of us all individually, of the importance of holding onto Hope, and the very real effect that occurs when we, in faith, Act and take steps forward to meet our overwhelming challenges head on.   What an amazing story, that has shaped an incredible human! Trials can and do lead to our greatest blessings in life and Curtis is a shinning example of that. Curtis, thank you for your courage to share, your passion and gratitude for life, and the faith that you live by. You are a light in this world my friend. What an incredible story!   If you would like to follow Curtis' story or reach out to him with any questions you can find him on Instagram, handle @curtislamb33 or on Facebook under his name Curtis Lamb.

August 23, 2012. That was the day it all changed for Curtis McGrath. A combat engineer with the Australian army who had been deployed to Afghanistan a couple of months earlier, McGrath stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while patrolling the Taliban-infested region. It detonated, taking both his legs with it. Eighteen months after this fateful day, Curtis was crowned World Champion at the World Sprint Canoe Championships in Moscow, Russia. This started his path to the Paralympics. In 2016, just over 4 years after losing his legs, Curtis true to his word, not only made it to the Paralympics but made history in becoming the first Australian to win a Paralympic Gold medal in the Paracanoe event at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Although the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games have been postponed, the goal remains the same; to defend the Gold medal he won in Rio, but also add another with the V1 canoe being added to the Paralympic schedule. The Tokyo Games are going to be an amazing event. Curtis has picked up an impressive list of international awards including being the first-ever Para-athlete to win the “Sportsman of the Year” Award at the World Paddle Awards, the one Curtis is most proud of. As Curtis conveys, “I’m the first Paralympic or Para-canoe athlete to win the award and was against high profile athletes from all over the world who have achieved a lot. It’s been a very humbling time post Games, and there has been a lot of recognition for what I have achieved. But I’m just going out there and enjoying myself on the water, so to be recognized is really cool.”

Brian Curtis, CEO of Concentric Power (concentricpower.com), delivers an informative overview on the technology, sustainability, and efficiency issues that impact the energy grid we rely upon. Curtis has more than 20 years of experience in a wide range of skilled areas such as engineering, finance, and strategic management in the energy and technology industries. He has a wealth of international experience and has partnered with many companies on multiple projects. Curtis was involved with notable projects in China such as the building of an ammonia processing plant in which he stayed on as plant general manager during the launch of their business and product line and as a venture partner with VC firms where he supervised clean energy investment strategies. Additionally, he worked closely with the U.S. Department of Energy with the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, as well as many other clean energy startups. He has extensive experience as a power plant design engineer and as a refinery engineer. Curtis founded Concentric Power in 2011 to focus on sustainable infrastructure and energy independence for companies in critical industries such as food and pharmaceuticals. Concentric Power is his second start-up. He holds a B.S. in mechanic engineering from UCLA, where he specialized in electro-mechanical systems design and control. Additionally, he holds an MBA from MIT. As Curtis states, Concentric Power's primary focus is on sustainable infrastructure for agriculture and industry applications, essentially firm power applications such as natural gas, battery storage, etc. coupled with renewables. Curtis discusses the traditional grid and the sources of power that exist based on geographical locations. And he explains how the trend will be to utilize energy sources that are localized, and how that will affect the power generation and supply overall. He discusses hybrid technologies and the impact on the environment, and his interest in how the technologies are coming together for more efficient energy production that may be greener and more sustainable overall as well.  The energy engineering expert provides an analysis of the shortcomings of intermittent power sources such as wind and solar, and the battery storage, pumped hydro, thermal, and other technologies that are needed to store intermittent sources for those nonproductive times. Curtis provides his expertise and insight into some of the issues that could present ongoing problems in the energy sector as renewable sources become more mainstreamed, such as the software and control of the systems. He discusses the complexities involved with running a coordinated system of varied energy sources, and how Concentric Power has developed a software program that utilizes machine learning to assist with the management and coordination. He provides information on the costs of energy production in various locations, from high to low, and the importance of smart components to work with the next generation grid as the energy production advances continue to move ahead. Additionally, the energy expert discusses the details of efficiency and ways that energy producers can make savings along the way and be more productive and successful. He outlines some other projects that he and his team are working on that relate to the grid, such as microgrid projects that deal with renewables and sustainable energy production.
