In this high-energy episode of The Proper Yarn Podcast, we sit down with the one and only Mr. Jockey, who's come all the way from Tassie to share some absolutely classic stories. From mischief-filled days with the boys to the most chaotic parties imaginable, Kyle's got a yarn for every occasion. Kyle shares his take on the legends of Tassie wildlife, from the supposed black panther sightings to the mystery of the Tassie Tiger, and how he's convinced there's still a bit of untamed wilderness waiting to be discovered. And when it comes to family, there's no holding back: Kyle reckons he'd beat his dad in a fight, no question. It's all part of his no-nonsense attitude that keeps us laughing and guessing what's next. The conversation ends with some heart, a good laugh, and a promise to "keep left unless overtaking"—because that's the proper way to live.If you're looking for a mix of stories about wild parties, animals that may or may not exist, and a few solid life lessons from a bloke who's seen it all, this episode's for you. Born and raised in a small town in Mansfield, Connecticut, Alexa Curtis knew she didn't fit into the “normal social mold”. When she was 7 years old, her father was wrongfully convicted of a heinous crime and put in a maximum security prison. By the age of 12, her father was released from jail but during that challenging period of life, Alexa started writing and expressing herself through fashion to help her cope, starting a fashion blog; A Life in the Fashion Lane which became a platform for her to express her feelings about everything relating to teens, body image, and mental health. As Alexa evolved, her blog naturally shifted from fashion to discussing sensitive topics that teens and young adults face every day. A Life in the Fashion Lane was changed to Life Unfiltered with Alexa Curtis. It became a lifestyle website and podcast for teens & parents discussing topics such as social media and mental health. Not only did Alexa turn her little fashion blog into a full-time lifestyle platform for teens, but through cold-pitching, she got sponsored by brands like British Airways, T-Mobile, Lands' End, and more. Today, on top of helping her consulting clients pitch themselves with her tried and true framework, Alexa is the CEO and founder of Be Fearless and the Be Fearless Summit, a pop-up summit that appeared at Drexel University right before we were in a pandemic lockdown in 2020 and has since premiered at UCONN, Vanderbilt, Central Connecticut State University, and UC Berkeley. Alexa has spoken at numerous colleges; (Northeastern, UConn, Eastern Connecticut, Rutgers) along with high schools – discussing how to be fearless as well as on mental health and social media. Alexa has had the honor of speaking alongside Amal Clooney and Serena Williams at Penn Women and in Sept 2018, she added ‘host' to her arsenal as she launched her own radio show on Radio Disney called “Fearless Every Day” with Alexa Curtis which was the first of its kind and broke new ground for the Radio Disney where Alexa interviewed various guests who shared their journey of overcoming obstacles/challenges and chasing after their dreams. Recently, Be Fearless Summit was acquired by upskilling and mentorship platform GrasshoppHer. Alexa works with the co-founder Heather Miller on their membership model and reinvented career fairs. In this initiating podcast episode, I embark on a profound journey, sharing my decision to sell my home and relocate to Spain with my husband, all while navigating personal growth, loss, and the powerful insights gained from working with Ayahuasca. The episode is, in essence, an initiation—a journey of self-discovery, healing, and transformation. I open up about the deeply personal experiences of loss, including a recent miscarriage and the grief it brought into our lives. This loss, though painful, ultimately propelled us to explore the deeper layers of ourselves and our relationship. As a couple, my husband and I faced the challenges of his dissatisfaction with his corporate job, leading to important conversations about alignment and purpose in life. This exploration prompted us to consider a major life change, such as relocating to Spain, as a way to honor our authentic selves and evolve as a family. Throughout this episode, I stress the importance of intuition, adaptability, building a business foundation and model to suit our human design and making choices that resonate with our higher selves. These decisions have the potential to activate a higher life timeline, propelling us towards personal growth, alignment, and a more purposeful existence. Tune in for an insightful discussion that delves deep into these transformative experiences, as well as the profound lessons learned along the way to empower you to find your tools too. Love Nature Magic Guest Maria Rodale, Author, LOVE NATURE MAGIC In her new book, Love Nature Magic: shamanic journeys into the heart of my garden, Maria Rodale shows how she came into relationship with the plants, animals and insects that inhabit her garden and helps readers come to understand nature's consciousness, intelligence and high awareness. When people slow down, release control and start paying close attention to Nature, the magic starts to happen. This episode begins with the story of a magical experience with an intelligent and resilient butterfly, and then it leads into a conversation with Maria Rodale. Bestselling author, activist and gardener Maria Rodale is a board member and former co-chair of the Rodale Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to growing the regenerative organic agriculture movement through research, farmer training and education. She is also the former CEO of Rodale Inc., the global health and wellness media company that has published many notable books and periodicals, including Organic Gardening, Men's Health, Women's Health and Prevention magazines. Under the pen name of Mrs. Peanuckle, Rodale has written a delightful series of board books that celebrate the joy nature brings to young children. Each “Alphabet” book presents a different category of nature: birds, bugs, flowers, trees, fresh fruits, vegetables and more. From A to Z, the bold colorful pages will engage parents, enchant toddlers and inspire the youngest of budding environmentalists and curious scientists. Throughout her life, Maria has advocated for the potential of organic regenerative farming to heal the damage wrought by pesticides and industrial agricultural practices and their toxic impacts on human and planetary health, including reversing climate change. The underlying theme of Maria's work is this: If we stop interfering and allow Nature to do her thing, ultimately, she will heal herself and us.
