During the 1750s and 1760s, a stone carver in Hampton, Connecticut created a number of bizarre gravestones in the town and in a few other neighboring communities. He abruptly stopped producing these stones after 1769, but then in the 1770s his work started to appear some 60 miles away in the Western Massachusetts towns of Becket and Worthington. Until now, his identity has eluded gravestone scholars, who dubbed him the "Hampton Indian" because the feathered wings on the stones bear some resemblance to a Native American headdress. This episode explores the style of his gravestone carvings, his sources of inspiration, and a theory as to his identity, which is based on several key pieces of circumstantial evidence. Born and raised in a small town in Mansfield, Connecticut, Alexa Curtis knew she didn't fit into the “normal social mold”. When she was 7 years old, her father was wrongfully convicted of a heinous crime and put in a maximum security prison. By the age of 12, her father was released from jail but during that challenging period of life, Alexa started writing and expressing herself through fashion to help her cope, starting a fashion blog; A Life in the Fashion Lane which became a platform for her to express her feelings about everything relating to teens, body image, and mental health. As Alexa evolved, her blog naturally shifted from fashion to discussing sensitive topics that teens and young adults face every day. A Life in the Fashion Lane was changed to Life Unfiltered with Alexa Curtis. It became a lifestyle website and podcast for teens & parents discussing topics such as social media and mental health. Not only did Alexa turn her little fashion blog into a full-time lifestyle platform for teens, but through cold-pitching, she got sponsored by brands like British Airways, T-Mobile, Lands' End, and more. Today, on top of helping her consulting clients pitch themselves with her tried and true framework, Alexa is the CEO and founder of Be Fearless and the Be Fearless Summit, a pop-up summit that appeared at Drexel University right before we were in a pandemic lockdown in 2020 and has since premiered at UCONN, Vanderbilt, Central Connecticut State University, and UC Berkeley. Alexa has spoken at numerous colleges; (Northeastern, UConn, Eastern Connecticut, Rutgers) along with high schools – discussing how to be fearless as well as on mental health and social media. Alexa has had the honor of speaking alongside Amal Clooney and Serena Williams at Penn Women and in Sept 2018, she added ‘host' to her arsenal as she launched her own radio show on Radio Disney called “Fearless Every Day” with Alexa Curtis which was the first of its kind and broke new ground for the Radio Disney where Alexa interviewed various guests who shared their journey of overcoming obstacles/challenges and chasing after their dreams. Recently, Be Fearless Summit was acquired by upskilling and mentorship platform GrasshoppHer. Alexa works with the co-founder Heather Miller on their membership model and reinvented career fairs. For as long as I can remember, giving back has been a part of what is important to me. Throughout my life, I have volunteered many hours to help in my community with organizations that are doing phenomenal work. The truth is that I volunteer, not because I am a good person. I do it for very selfish reasons. Giving back reminds me how blessed I am and makes me feel good. When I have been too focused on myself and not giving to others, I begin to focus on my empty cup and a life lacking the shine we sometimes feel it should have. In other words, I am living in the gap of life instead of the gain. You don't have to look far to find someone who needs a friend, advice, or shelter. Whether you're donating money or time, giving promotes happiness, increases our connection to others, and strengthens empathy. Wealth is a concept that, for me, starts inside of us. Being empathetic and sharing our blessings can help us feel good and increase our mental well-being. As entrepreneurs, we tend to prioritize long-term goals. We also want to impact the world through our work alone. Giving back can remind us that what we are doing is also impacting outside our inner circle and keeping us on track to our goals. However, chances are good that we'd never have the world-changing impact I hoped for. In today's episode, I interview Eric Harrison, the United Way of Central and Eastern Connecticut's new President and CEO.Eric is an experienced Chief Executive Officer with a demonstrated history of working in the non-profit organization management industry. Skilled in Nonprofit Organizations, Budgeting, Event Management, Volunteer Management, and Public Speaking. Strong business development professional with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) focused in Business Administration and Management, General from the Minnesota School of Business. I had a lot of fun getting to know him and learning more about what drives him to lead an organization like the United Way. I am so happy that we have an incredible visionary committed to helping create more robust, more prosperous communities. In the last couple of years alone, United Way has stepped up to answer the call of those in need. Their mission is to engage and bring together people and resources committed to the well-being of children and families in our community. They have ensured that people's immediate needs are met while finding long-term solutions to challenges in our community. In this episode, I share more about ALICE households. Keeping it Reil with Marilyn & Steve Riel I met and connected with Marilyn and Steve about 3 years ago – we all belonged to a local networking group in Eastern Connecticut. Marilyn and Steve we a down to earth, friendly and very sweet couple and one could immediately warm up to them. We became friendly and they somehow convinced me to come into the studio and check it out – so I did. It was open and bright and you I felt welcomed by them both. I remember thinking that they were a pretty well-oiled machine – finishing each other's sentences at just the right moment. They were pretty excited to talk about what they were doing with homesteading and their photography business. I scheduled a head-shot photo session with them – but felt apprehensive as I do not like my picture taken. They made me very comfortable and the session was a blast!! I actually really love my pictures and have used them for many different marketing pieces. Doing this show allows me to invite all kinds of interesting guests to speak about what they do and how it affects humanity in a positive way – Marilyn and Steve are 2 of those people, that I invited to be my Awakened Soul of the Week – So I hope you will tune in ad listen to what they have to say!! A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT Marilyn and Steve…. Hi! We're Steve and Marilyn Riel, two old-fashioned souls living in Lisbon, Connecticut. Most people know us as photographers who own and operate a portrait studio and boutique but may not be aware that when we aren't working on our business, we are working on our homestead. Our true love is the self-reliance you gain from gardening, preserving, foraging, making tinctures and salves and other survival preparations that we do every day here at our little cabin in the woods. The studio side of our life is a women's portrait photography studio. Marilyn chose to photograph women exclusively when she found an overwhelming emotional connection with how it affected her female clients. Women seemed to connect with the experience so much more deeply than the majority of men that she photographed. Marilyn uses this experience to build women's self-confidence and to help empower women looking for more than just photographs of themselves. Outside of the studio, we live a much simpler life. We try to live in a way that has been passed down from our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. We both grew up raised by depression era parents and learned from a very early age how to be self-reliant and how to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. We feel it to be important to pass this way of life down to the future generations within our family and anyone else that clicks with this way of life. A quote from Patricia Sampson sums-up our belief – “Self-reliance is the only road to true freedom and being one's own person, is its ultimate reward.” Socialize With Us Web Page: https://www.keepingitriel.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/KeepingItRielwithMarilynSteve Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/KeepingIt_Riel/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KeepingItRiel/ Email: Info@KeepingItRiel.com Example Video: Harvesting and Dehydrating Pine Tips: https://youtu.be/LEw0mnmIGXw Learn more about Pam here: https://www.facebook.com/AwakenedSoulStories https://www.facebook.com/TreeOLife222/ Contact Pam: 401-533-1864 or pampatalano@gmail.com

Preview finale! In order: CCC (at 3:50) Salve Regina has one of the best pitching staffs in the region and could really make some noise if some bats emerge Conversely, Endicott has multiple All-Region bats returning but will need some pitching to step up for them to contend Roger Williams is a clear #3 in this conference and have some very experienced players on both sides of the ball returning LEC (at 14:09) Southern Maine is playing a completely outrageous schedule (which we love) and will need some hitters to step up so that Cam Seymour doesn't get walked 150 times (they'll still be awesome, though) Eastern Connecticut is the favorite and will look to bounce back after a relatively tough end to their 2021 season; they have more than enough talent to do so UMass-Boston will surely be eager to be back playing a normal full schedule and have some serious dudes returning, especially on the mound Why you should keep an eye on Keene State in the coming years MASCAC (at 34:18) Westfield State looks like the favorite once again... ...even though Salem State is the defending champs NECC (at 39:10) Mitchell is very good but the rest of this conference is barely still around; do they even still have an AQ? UAA (at 46:00) Brandeis has a bunch of Year 5 guys back so maybe we shouldn't be sleeping on them so hard NYU FINALLY HAS STUFF ON THEIR WEBSITE so we talk about them briefly We conclude (at 51:20) with our player and pitcher of the year picks, and our teams to beat. Then we say goodbye. Follow us on Twitter @d3baseballpod (DMs are open if you want to reach us there) and @CespedesBBQ. CBIA BizCast host Ali Warshavsky speaks with General Dynamics Electric Boat president Kevin Graney. Graney is the keynote speaker at CBIA's Jan. 21 Economic Summit + Outlook conference. Graney took over as president of the Groton-based submarine manufacturer in 2019. He says Electric Boat is in a period of heavy growth, driven by major U.S. Navy contracts. That growth requires hiring thousands of skilled workers over the next few years, which Graney recognizes as a significant challenge. “We are looking everywhere we can, we are expanding our focus area from the immediate area of Eastern Connecticut and Rhode Island to further and further out,” said Graney. “You can't watch an NFL game without seeing an Electric Boat commercial and that's how I want it. I want people to know we are open for business.” Graney will share further details about Electric Boat's workforce development strategy and how the company is navigating supply chain bottlenecks at the conference, which is now virtual because of the surge in COVID-19 positivity rates. Registration for the 2022 Economic Summit + Outlook, made possible through the generous support of Webster Bank, is free for CBIA members. Please rate, review, and subscribe to the BizCast wherever you get your podcasts—we appreciate your support! If you have a story to tell, contact Ali Warshavsky.

The mission of the Jordan Porco Foundation is to prevent suicide, promote mental health, and create a message of hope for young adults. JPF provides engaging and uplifting programming emphasizing peer-to-peer messaging promoting help seeking behavior, self-care, and coping skills. Their programs challenge stigma by talking openly about mental health, and educating about the risk factors and warning signs of suicide and other related mental health concerns.Through awareness, education, and innovative programming, JPF is challenging stigma around mental health and help-seeking, creating open conversations about the prevalence of suicide and mental health issues, and saving young adult lives.Marisa Giarnella-Porco is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Jordan Porco Foundation (JPF). JPF was founded in 2011 after the Co-Founders lost their son, Jordan, to suicide when he was a freshman in college. Prior to starting the Jordan Porco Foundation, Marisa has worked in human services since 1985.She obtained her Masters of Social Work from the University of Connecticut in Administration. Her employment experiences range from the CT Department of Children and Families to various positions with local mental health authorities in Eastern Connecticut. She has volunteered for decades in her community and is currently an active member of the CT Suicide Advisory Board.Tune in for this sensible conversation at TalkRadio.nyc or watch the Facebook Livestream by Clicking Here.Segment 1In the first segment of the episode, the interview begins with Tommy asking Marisa how she became involved in this type of non-profit work. Marisa responds by sharing about how she grew up seeing the different issues within her family which were not openly discussed due to stigma and shame surrounding mental health issues. This inspired Marisa to study psychology and sociology and this enabled her to develop an understanding of the troubles that affected her family and other members of society. As she continued her studies, she developed an understanding of systemic problems that contribute to mental health issues.Segment 2 This segment begins with Melisa telling the story about how the organization came to be; she recounts the story about the circumstances and the aftermath of her son's suicide. She describes her son, Jordan, as one of the last people who she ever expected would commit suicide. She discusses the expectations and ideas that must've led her son to feel isolated in that moment of his life. When Melisa decided to develop a program to promote suicide prevention and awareness, she first gathered the input from several individuals in order to develop a program that students would be willing to engage with. The program was very well received by students and the program was thus expanded to include more students. The foundation has since hosted hundreds of events which have impacted thousands of lives to date. Segment 3 This segment begins with a discussion about the prevalence of suicide within society. Marisa shares a few stories about participants of her program whose lives were positively affected by the program: one young woman sought help after deciding against commiting suicide and another young woman realized, through her participation in the program, realized that she had been struggling with anxiety. Marisa and Tommy then discuss the specific mental health challenges faced by young people due to phenomena such as social media. Finally, Marisa offers a few ways in which young people can navigate these challenges.Segment 4In the final segment, Marisa emphasizes the significance of mental health programs, especially for college students. She frames the work of her organization as a form of preventative care which helps to prevent deeper and more significant mental health problems later in their lives. Marissa and Tommy highlight the importance of social work and share some information about how to get involved with the organization.

"While Nathan's success in real estate has deservedly earned him worldwide attention, what's even more impressive than the number of homes he's sold is the speed with which he attained this success. At the age of 20, Nathan was making $14,000 a year sweeping floors on a cruise ship with absolutely no real estate or business background. A year later, he'd closed 27 residential transactions, and four years after that – still under the age of 30 – he topped the RE/MAX charts in commissions earned by closing more than 130 properties. He was the youngest team leader ever to be number one in RI. Nathan was also the youngest to receive the Hall of Fame Award in 2011 in RI which is awarded to those who have attained over $1 million or more in commissions. He then went on to become the #1 Team in the state of RI amongst all real estate companies in the state of RI by 29 years old. But Clark's numbers have only careened upward. In 2012, Clark sold 198 homes, making him #1 Team statewide again for the 3 years in a row. Clark has consistently helped 100's of homes sell per year for over 17 years now (Nathan sells a home every 17 hours) selling over 540 houses in 2020. He has shattered all state sales records. Operating throughout Rhode Island Southern Massachusetts and Eastern Connecticut. Clark has held the distinction of being the top team out of all teams in the entire state for 11 years and counting. So how did this young man go from a deck hand to internationally recognized super-salesman in less than a decade? Clark credits his phenomenal success to the innovative and aggressive ways he has approached his real estate business from thinking outside the box. Without previous real estate experience, he entered the business with no preconceived notions of how things should be done, or how high “up” could be. With a tendency for funnel vision, rather than tunnel vision, he not only studied the real estate industry, but also businesses outside the industry to understand what made them successful and how their success could be translated to real estate when he met Craig Proctor. Craig Proctor the creator of The Quantum Leap Real Estate Success System which innovatively applies the concepts of leverage, specialization and systemization to provide superior real estate service for his customers, and a superior quality of life for himself and his family. Clark was schooled in the discipline of marketing by Craig Proctor, and marketing has become his passion. He has learned through firsthand experience how to use marketing to get prospective buyers and sellers knocking on his door. Clark has become hired as an international real estate coach for thousands of fellow agents across Canada and the U.S. through Mr. Proctor as he openly shares his step-by-step approach to success. He is an anticipated speaker at company sales rallies, international conventions and seminars, allowing him to share his winning strategies and techniques in a series of products, seminars and coaching programs and has been awarded several prestigious marketing awards in this program. "

Join Erica and Alexa as they discuss Alexa's early upbringing in the realm of fashion and how she pivoted her style-centric blog to a platform for mental health advocacy. Erica also gushes over how into everything Alexa was living out everyone's early 2000's dream as a host of her very own Radio Disney Show. Later on in the episode, Alexa gives listeners an exclusive, sneak peek of her latest project, and what she is looking forward to doing with her platform in the future! Learn more about Alexa Curtis: Born and raised in small-town Mansfield, Connecticut, Alexa Curtis knew she was different. She didn't fit into the “normal social mold.” When she entered middle school, all the bullying she endured led her to need an outlet to escape. In 2011, at just 12 years old, she started a fashion blog; A Life in the Fashion Lane. It became a platform for her to express her feelings around everything relating to teens, body image, and mental health. As Curtis evolved as a person, her blog naturally shifted from fashion to discussing sensitive topics that teens and young adults face every day. A Life in the Fashion Lane was changed to Life Unfiltered with Alexa Curtis and became a lifestyle website and podcast for teens & parents discussing topics such as social media and mental health. Not only did Curtis turn her little fashion blog into a full-time lifestyle platform for teens, through cold-pitching, she managed to get sponsored by brands like British Airways, T-Mobile, Lands' End, and more. In 2018, Alexa founded the Be Fearless Summit, which is a pop-up summit that appeared at Drexel University on March 15th, 2020. The next summit was slated for April 1, 2020, at UC Berkeley. Sponsors include Headspace, Shake Shack, and Morphe. Curtis has spoken at numerous colleges; Northeastern, UConn, Eastern Connecticut, Rutgers along with high schools – discussing how to be fearless as well as mental health and social media. In October 2018, Curtis spoke alongside Amal Clooney and Serena Williams at Penn Women, and in Sept 2018, Curtis added ‘host' to her arsenal as she launched her own radio show on Radio Disney called “Fearless Every Day” with Alexa Curtis. “Fearless Every Day” was the first of its kind and broke new ground for the Radio Disney brand. Alexa interviewed various guests who shared their journey of overcoming obstacles/challenges and chasing after their dreams. When Curtis is not hard at work, she meditates frequently and makes time for hobbies like cooking and exercising to keep herself grounded. Although she is based in Los Angeles, she spends part of her time on the east coast. Alexa Curtis's Instagram:@Alexa_Curtis Be Fearless Summit Instagram: @befearlesssummit Where can you find us? You're listening to the Westerly Sun's podcast, where we talk about the best local events, new job postings, obituaries, and more. First, a bit of Rhode Island trivia. Today's trivia is brought to you by Perennial. Perennial's new plant-based drink “Daily Gut & Brain” is a blend of easily digestible nutrients crafted for gut and brain health. A convenient mini-meal, Daily Gut & Brain” is available now at the CVS Pharmacy in Wakefield. Now for some trivia. Did you know that In the time it takes many Americans to commute to work, we Rhode Islanders can drive north to south or east to west across the entire state? Now for our feature story: What do a proposed condominium development on East Avenue, conceptual plans to add housing to a golf course in Misquamicut, an approved development on South Drive, and a medical marijuana facility in Bradford all have in common? They all took the Town Council by surprise and led to the establishment of a Planning Board liaison position. During a recent council meeting, Town Council President Sharon Ahern discussed her idea for a council liaison to the board. She then appointed Councilor Philip Overton to the position. Creation of the new liaison came not long after the Planning Board started hearings on a proposed condominium development on a 7.6-acre site at 165 East Ave. Ahern and Councilor Karen Cioffi each live on East Avenue with their respective families and both have raised questions during Planning Board hearings about the proposed development's potential effect on the neighborhood. They also submitted comments in writing. In a strongly worded email addressed to members of the Planning Board, its former Chairman James Hall IV and Town Planner Nancy Letendre, Cioffi raised questions about what she called a "flawed" process, saying proposed developments should be "announced to the public." Cioffi said in her Feb. 12 message: "The council should be notified and the public should be made aware. Waiting to hear from the rumor mill is not acceptable. Waiting for the newspaper to report [it] is not acceptable,". Though for the record, the Sun reported about it in December. During the hearing, Cioffi and many of her neighbors raised questions about the density of the project and its effect on traffic. Ahern raised similar concerns, including questions about the suitability of the site, which slopes downward toward Beach Street in the same way as the South Drive site where erosion and storm runoff were a problem. On Friday, Ahern said she suggested and created the Planning Board council liaison position after learning from the town's lawyers that other municipalities in the state have established similar positions. She said she was motivated to create the position because of the East Avenue proposal as well as a medical marijuana facility in Bradford that is locked in a cease-and-desist skirmish with the town due to allegedly failing to follow aspects of its approved plan. She also pointed to concerns about the Winnapaug Country Club's discussion of adding a hotel or housing that came up during hearings on revisions to the Comprehensive Plan. Overton, on Friday, said he was happy to become the council's first liaison to the Planning Board. He said: "I've been pretty vocal about how I don't want to see Westerly urbanized." And for more about the latest real estate and development stories in and around Westerly, head over to westerlysun.com. There are a lot of businesses in our community that are hiring right now, so we're excited to tell you about some new job listings. Today's Job posting comes from the Ocean Community YMCA in Westerly. They're looking for a full-time finance associate to help crunch the numbers, keep up with billing and dues, and to help with all facets of the business's finances. Pay starts at $38,000 per year. If you'd like to learn more or apply, you can do so at the link in our episode description: https://www.indeed.com/l-Westerly,-RI-jobs.html?advn=6385150304015669&vjk=29fbf5c0f1dd0e6e Today we're remembering the life of Sylvia Dube Rice.. She was the loving wife of the late John Rice. Sylvia met John, her best friend and love of her life, while attending Boston University. They married after her graduation and started their family. On a trip to Block Island in 1968, they discovered and fell in love with the town of Westerly, where they decided to raise their children settling in Shelter Harbor. Sylvia loved her neighborhood and the many lifelong friends she met there. She had a long and distinguished career, as Supervisor of Home Health Services of Rhode Island, coordinating home health care and companion visits throughout southern Rhode Island and Eastern Connecticut. She went the extra mile to ensure that all of her clients had the care that they needed. Her compassion and sense of community led her to her beloved church, Dunns Corners Community Church Presbyterian, where she was active for many years. She served as an Elder and a Deacon while contributing her time and talents to many committees. Even more importantly, Sylvia had an intuition for the needs of those around her, and she often reached out with fellowship and friendship to fellow congregants, many times when they needed it most. She was active on several Boards of Directors, including the Westerly Adult Day Care Center, where she later taught art classes, and Habitat for Humanity, where she was a partner for many first time home owners, guiding them through the process. Sylvia was a talented watercolor artist, and was a member of the Artists' Cooperative Gallery of Westerly for many years. She cherished the many friends that she met there. In her travels, she had the opportunity to paint in Monet's Garden in Giverny, France, an experience she was particularly proud of. Sylvia and John were skilled sailors, and they treated their children to many sailing adventures throughout the coast of New England. She loved her daily swims in Quonnie Pond, and her walks throughout the neighborhood. Mostly, she loved being with her family on the pond, at the beach and for so many happy family dinners. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Thank you for taking a moment today to remember and celebrate Sylvia's life. That's it for today, we'll be back next time with more! Also, remember to check out our sponsor Perennial, Daily Gut & Brain, available at the CVS on Main St. in Wakefield! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to Episode 72 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. This is our sixth of eight regional preview pods -- this one covers the New England region and its seven conferences. Topics include: CCC (at 1:40) Salve Regina (at 2:00) is the class of this conference and boasts two of the best strikeout pitchers in the region atop their rotation Teams (at 4:50) like Endicott, Roger Williams, Western New England, and Nichols will need to have a lot go right to compete with the Seahawks GNAC (at 7:10) The last 12 titles have gone to either St. Joseph's (Maine) or Suffolk...maybe this is the year a team like Johnson & Wales could break the streak? LEC (at 10:20) Southern Maine might be returning the most loaded #Year5 squad in the entire country and make have opened up an unusually large gap on their conference competition UMass-Boston has been a perennial regional team but with a late start and a lot of new faces in the lineup, there's more questions than normal entering their season. We still love the Beacons, though. Rhode Island has emerged as a strong sleeper but lost some key pieces from their pitching staff UMass-Dartmouth, Eastern Connecticut, and Castleton will probably hang around this conversation as well MASCAC (at 19:15) Westfield State will probably continue to run the show but their legendary 1-2 punch is gone so maybe there's room for a team like Fitchburg State, Worcester State, or Salem State to contend NECC (at 21:28) Mitchell has been putting up big win totals vs. bad competition in recent years but now are starting to look more like a legitimately fearsome regional contender New England College had one hell of a run in the 2019 postseason but now their coach and some of their best players departed for conference rival Eastern Nazarene, ooooo spicy spicy!!! NESCAC (at 28:20) It seems that only four teams will be participating in this conference in this pandemic season, with Tufts and Trinity (CT) likely the ones fighting for the title NEWMAC (at 34:30) Babson is losing some key contributors and won't have the traditionally insane SOS to boost their resume. Beavers are always good, though. Wheaton (Mass.) is now more than just a Really Good Fundamental Baseball Team -- they've got super high-end talent that makes them a legitimate World Series contender MIT isn't playing, which is a bummer UAA Brandeis (at 40:15) are gonna have a tough time scheduling with all the conference-only restrictions but their roster actually looks pretty solid! We concluded (at 41:30) with our player and pitcher of the year picks for the region, and our teams to beat. Then we say goodbye. Thanks for listening! But not everyone can work remotely and many people have lost their jobs. This hour, we take a look at the pandemic’s economic impact . We hear from Connecticut workers in the gig economy—people who drive for Lyft or deliver for Uber Eats. And we talk with an economist about what policies can ease the economic burden on Americans. We want to hear from you. How is the coronavirus affecting your family—and your pocketbook? Welcome to Episode 60 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. This is our fifth of eight regional preview pods -- this one covers the New England region and its seven conferences. Topics include: CCC Salve Regina (at 2:00) is the class of this conference and boasts two of the best strikeout pitchers in the region atop their rotation Teams (at 4:50) like Endicott, Roger Williams, Western New England, and Nichols will need to have a lot go right to compete with the Seahawks GNAC (at 5:50) The last 12 titles have gone to either St. Joseph's (Maine) or Suffolk...maybe this is the year a team like Johnson & Wales could break the streak? LEC Southern Maine (at 9:15) lost a ton of All-Region talent and still is star-studded as ever; such is life as the Huskies UMass-Boston (at 15:00) has a whole lot of offense to replace but a deep pitching staff could still take them far Rhode Island (at 20:05) has emerged as a legit sleeper in this powerhouse conference UMass-Dartmouth (at 22:30) has some studs and Eastern Connecticut will certainly hang around MASCAC Westfield State (at 23:10) will probably continue to run the show but there is some room for a team like Fitchburg State, Worcester State, or Salem State to contend NECC Mitchell (at 25:25) returns most of their best players and are primed to regain control of this conference New England College (at 28:25) will need to replace a huge chunk of the squad that went on the amazing run to the super regional in 2019 NESCAC Tufts (at 32:30) has enough to defend their title, but a weak schedule means they'll have to win it again to get in Trinity (Conn.) (at 34:05) made us believers last year and might have one of the best players in the country Middlebury (at 37:30) and Williams should be solid NEWMAC Babson (at 39:10) is losing some key contributors but should remain an excellent team playing an impressively insane schedule Wheaton (Mass.) (at 42:45) continues to be a Damn Good Baseball Team™ and has some exciting young talent on both sides of the ball MIT (at 47:10) cannot be slept on as the defending champs, and they have similarly elite talent to matchup with their NEWMAC rivals We concluded (at 50:30) with a few other notable player shout outs, our player and pitcher of the year picks for the region, and our teams to beat. Then we say goodbye. Thanks for listening! Follow us on Twitter @d3baseballpod (DMs are open if you want to reach us there) and @CespedesBBQ. Many of us are tied to one source of income. It could be our job as an employee or our business as an entrepreneur. We look at our investments in a 401k and diversify to keep our investments safe. Why don't we do that with our core source of income? More and more we hear about side hustles and alternative sources of income. But how do you do that? In today's episode, we chat with Nate Herrick about how he has done this in his own life and how you can do it too.We also chat about Real Estate Syndication, Stacked Income Sources, building a team past 'just employees', and finding your own side hustle.Today's show was recorded at PodMax!LinksPodmax: https://onairbrandspodmax.comAbout Nate HerrickNate Herrick was born and raised in Eastern Connecticut with his parents and two younger brothers. Nate enrolled at The University of Connecticut where he enlisted in the US Army National Guard for a new challenge and was the only realistic way he could afford college. After graduating from UConn in 2001, Nate accepted a sales position with a Fortune 20 consumer goods corporation. Soon after the “9/11” terrorist attacks, he was called to active duty and proudly served in support Operation Iraqi Freedom culminating with the status of Army Veteran.Back from the military and working his corporate job, Nate purchases his first rental property. Soon after he meets an independent operator in the ATM industry who introduces him to the business and eventually develops his own ATM route which he continues to grow to this day. This was Mr. Herrick’s first exposure to the mindset of an Entrepreneur, not an employee. After leaving his corporate job, Nate focused on creating and growing multiple income streams and developed a vacation rental business representing owners at luxury ski, beach and ski destinations utilizing the current AirBNB and VRBO rental models. After realizing the vacation rental business was not a viable primary source of income, Nate went into business with his brother Zach as they continue to grow their recruiting business assisting Architects, Engineers and Construction Professionals in the CT, NY and NJ marketplace. While working his “9-5” in recruiting, Nate continued his focus on growing multiple income streams through Multifamily Real Estate investing, Self-Storage opportunities, Institutional ATM route investing, Private Placements, and most recently is syndicating Merchant Cash Advances. In 2019, Nate forms NAZ Capital with his two brothers. The entity invests in multifamily apartment syndications, ATMs and various private placements. Nate’s mission is to provide a standard of living for his two young children that he never had but more importantly instill the values, drive and financial education necessary to succeed on their own. In his free time Nate enjoys traveling to many of the premiere ski destinations in the world, coaching his kid’s sports teams and consistent exercise.

Maria and Julio travel to Three Rivers Community College in Norwich, CT for a live show to discuss addiction and mental health in POC communities. They're joined by guests Kelvin Young, sound healer and certified recovery coach, Kenyatta Thompson, senior community organizer at Katal Center for Health, Equity, and Justice, and Taylor Ford, statewide youth and family coordinator with FAVOR, Inc. The overdose epidemic is often treated as an issue within white communities - who do make up a majority of opioid overdose victims - but a CDC report released earlier this year found that black and Latino individuals are overdosing and dying increasingly faster than white individuals. In Connecticut, where the Oxycontin-maker Purdue Pharma was based, 93 percent of overdoses in the state are caused by opioids, making it ground zero for the epidemic. In this episode, they talk about the underlying roots of addiction and mental health issues in communities of color. ITT Staff Picks:New drug laws could worsen the opioid crisis. Episode 43: When Alexa first started her blog, ‘A Life In The Fashion Lane’, it became a form of therapy where she could express her thoughts and feelings and she never hesitated to hit “publish” on any post. At just seven years old her father was wrongfully convicted for a terrible crime and served five years behind bars at a maximum security prison where she would visit him everyday. Growing up in a small town in Eastern Connecticut, the story got around fast and due to what was going on in her personal life as well as becoming a blogger, she was beginning to to get bullied by the kids around her. Uncomfortable with her surroundings, at sixteen Alexa dropped out of school knowing that she had 0 intentions of going to college and was able to finish taking courses online. She would travel twice a year to New York City for Fashion Week and continued to push out as many blog posts as she could create. Her post “Role Model or Runway Model?” got sent around to major publications as it talked about the honest truth of the fashion industry and what she had experienced first hand trying to become a model and the eating disorders that were tagged along with it. At just nineteen years old she’s had segments on the Today Show, Good Morning America, Good Day LA, NBC Nightly News, Rachel Ray, featured on Rolling Stone with her thoughts on the Netflix Series “13 Reasons Why” and many other media outlets In this podcast Alexa discusses how there is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes of becoming successful than people realize, having the power to do whatever you want when being in a creative field and a young entrepreneur, being turned down from a Warner Brothers producer and reworking her brain to want something more, confidence is something that comes with age as you grow into yourself, if she wrote a book today she would title it “Life As We Know It” because of how quickly our lives change, importance of writing down your goals if you haven’t gotten the opportunity you’ve been waiting for and visualizing exactly what you want and stop caring what people think about you, give yourself enough credit. — Subscribe to our YouTube Channel for new interviews (and more) weekly: http://bit.ly/2zprpon Follow us on Soundcloud: http://bit.ly/2hcSBws Subscribe to iTunes: http://apple.co/2yE0u9l Follow us on social media: Instagram: http://bit.ly/2j82AHF Follow Bobbbaaaay on social media: Instagram: http://bit.ly/2Ap24ce Twitter: http://bit.ly/2hj6Ljm
