In this 12-episode Fanbase Feature mini-series, Through the Ring - A Focus on The Expanse TV Series will provide an in-depth analysis of the hit sci-fi television series created by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (and based on James S.A. Corey's novels of the same name). In this special episode, POPSKL chats with Eisner-nominated writer Corinna Bechko about the four-part The Expanse comic book series from BOOM! Studios which takes place between the fourth and fifth seasons of the television series.  Bechko discusses how much freedom she had to create, how she captured the voices of the characters, and how she went about exploring two female leads in a new and fresh way.

Corrina Bechko and Gabe Hardman talk about their latest volume of Green Lantern, which features a more realistic spin on Hal Jordan-Astronaut. We also talk about Corrina's new mini series based on The Expanse for Boom! Studios coming in December and some DC digital first Batman stories they both have coming up.

On today's Comics Syllabus, Paul and brother Sonny discuss "Green Lantern Earth One Volume One," Gabriel Hardman, Corinna Bechko, and Jordan Boyd's DC graphic novel retelling of Hal Jordan Green Lantern's origin story in the Earth One universe. "Green Lantern Earth One" is a dash of Sonny's favorite stuff-- Green Lantern Corps and Green Lantern lore--filtered through the cinematic stylistics of Hardman and Bechko, some of Paul's favorite creators. Then, Sonny and Paul pick upcoming trade collections on their wait list: Sonny picks "Batman Detective Comics TP Vol 06 Fall Of The Batmen Rebirth" by James Tynion IV and Joe Bennett and artists (DC), the fall of Clayface and nearing the end of the Tynion Detective run. Paul recommends "Fantastic Four Epic Collection TP New Fantastic Four" (Marvel) by various writers and artist, notably (for Paul) Art Adams art, collecting "Fantastic Four" #347-361 and Annual #24, a 90s run that includes Wolverine, Spiderman, Hulk, and Ghost Rider subbing for Marvel's first family. Finally, a new wrinkle to the "Wait List with Sonny" segment. The brothers try out three "number one" issues, and Sonny decides if he'll add any to his trade wait list. They discuss "Detective Comics" #982 (the first post-Tynion issue), "Thor" #1, and "By Night" #1 (Boom). The Two Guys are happy to have as their guests Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko. Their first collected volume of Invisible Republic has just recently been released, and the guys talk with the creators about the origins of this project, its initial incubation period, and their efforts in bringing the series to Image Comics. Invisible Republic is a science fiction narrative, taking place on a distant moon in the Gliese system in the twenty-eighth century, but it's much more of a story of political intrigue set against a backdrop of journalistic investigation. The first trade collects issues #1-5 of the series, and the next narrative arc begins later this month with issue #6. Derek and Andy W. also ask Corinna and Gabriel about their collaborative relationship, their work on Invisible Republic as well as other series (including the Planet of the Apes franchise), and how it may complement -- or perhaps even challenge -- their personal partnership. The guys also use the opportunity to talk with the two about their other creator-owned projects, such as Kinski, Heathentown, and the upcoming The Crooked Man. The topics of beekeeping, pet ownership, and even Donald Trump (unfortunately) make their ways into their conversation, making this a well-rounded talk. There is a lot packed into this interview, and the discussion that unfolds is one of the most thought-provoking you'll hear in any comics podcast.
