When 27-year-old wunderkind Josh Trank got the keys to Marvel's First Family, he promised a dark, gritty take on the Fantastic Four. But his own origin story—complete with on-set meltdowns, studio battles, and that infamous tweet—proved more compelling than anything that made it to screen. From questionable wigs to near-fistfights, this superhero saga became a cautionary tale about Hollywood hubris that even Mr. Fantastic couldn't stretch his way out of.The hosts of Unspooled, Amy Nicholson and Paul Scheer (How Did This Get Made) join Misha to binge Josh Trank's F4stic, a movie so bad, it makes you wish you were constantly on fire like the Human Torch just so you could FEEL something.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more! On this week's episode, the guys kick things off with an engaging discussion centered around Marvel Studio's highly anticipated teaser for the cast announcement of the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. The excitement is palpable as they delve into the implications of this teaser, speculating on the characters who might be making their grand return and how their arcs could intertwine with the larger narrative of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This conversation naturally transitions into a broader discussion about the slate of upcoming MCU movies, where they explore potential storylines that could be adapted for both Avengers: Doomsday and the subsequent Avengers: Secret Wars. The guys ponder the rich tapestry of comic book lore available to Marvel, considering how classic arcs and lesser-known stories could be woven into the cinematic fabric of these films, thus heightening the anticipation for what lies ahead in the MCU.Joe then shares some exciting news about GameInformer, the beloved gaming magazine that recently made headlines due to its unexpected shutdown. He reveals that GameInformer is making a comeback, sparking a lively debate among the group about what this revival might look like in today's rapidly evolving digital landscape. The guys speculate on how the magazine could adapt its traditional print format to thrive in an era dominated by online content, social media, and interactive platforms. They discuss the potential for a more digital-first approach, including multimedia content, podcasts, and live streams that could engage a broader audience while maintaining the essence of what made GameInformer a staple in gaming journalism. As the conversation progresses, Cody brings up some intriguing news regarding filmmaker Josh Trank, who is reportedly working on a new project. The guys share their thoughts on Trank's previous works and how his unique vision might influence this upcoming film, especially considering the mixed reception of his past projects. This leads to a deeper exploration of the challenges and triumphs filmmakers face in the current industry landscape, as well as the critical reception that often shapes a director's career trajectory. In a surprising turn of events, Joe reveals some fascinating information about a once-cancelled Looney Tunes movie titled The Day the Earth Blew Up. The guys discuss the film's concept and the reasons behind its initial cancellation, speculating on what it could have brought to the beloved franchise. They reflect on the enduring legacy of Looney Tunes characters and how they have adapted over the years, considering whether this film could have provided a fresh take on the classic characters while appealing to both nostalgic fans and new audiences alike. To wrap things up, Cody shares some exciting insights from early screenings of James Gunn's highly anticipated Superman film, which is part of the new DC Universe (DCU). He reveals that these screenings have answered the burning question of "Who is Jor-El?" in this latest iteration of the iconic superhero's story. The guys engage in a spirited discussion about the significance of Jor-El's character and how this new portrayal could impact the overall narrative of the DCU. They reflect on the importance of strong character development in superhero films and how Jor-El's backstory could influence Superman's journey, setting the stage for a compelling and emotionally resonant film that fans are eager to see.Official Website: https://www.comesnaturallypodcast.comOfficial Merchandise: https://shop.spreadshirt.com/comes-naturally-podcast/iTunes: http://tinyurl.com/kqkgackFacebook: http://tinyurl.com/myovgm8Tumblr: http://tinyurl.com/m7a6mg9Twitter: @ComesNaturalPodYouTube: http://tiny.cc/5snxpy
Coincidentally commemorating the 9 year anniversary of what's been dubbed one of the worst superhero movies ever made, we watched Josh Trank's 2015 mega-flop Fantastic Four a.k.a. Fant4stic this week. Doomed from the start by the competing forces of a hot young director and a studio trying to compete with the media conglomerate that will buy them two years later, the resulting attempt to reboot the Fantastic Four into darker, Cronenbergian territory was not so fantastic. It's stinks actually, but who's really to blame? Josh Trank? Fox? Kate Mara's wig? With the MCU's own iteration of Marvel's first family on the horizon, the time has finally come for us to figure out exactly what went wrong. Featuring the debut of our new fourth mic: Kevin Nguyen. He can only say "Hi, I'm Kevin" in a silly voice. Thank you to our $10 Executive Producers: Isaac, Porridge Fist, Walt Lewellyn of The Black Casebook, Owen2, bernventers, Lohik, jprestonpoole, and PineappleRevy. How will Hollywood's top ghostwriters steer this ship in a proper direction? Will Doctor Doom return? Will they find a way to tie in the nation he controls, Latveria? Will the boys be able to tap into Miles Teller and Kate Mara's intense innate chemistry? What are things like in the bedroom for The Thing and The Human Torch? Superheroes, Movies & Superhero Movies: A Cinema Heroes Podcast
I suppose it's a bit of a stretch to say Chronicle is a "superhero movie" but it's definitely inspired by comic books and superheroes. Josh Trank's film focuses on three teenagers who are given superpowers and how they each respond to their "great power." It's a found footage movie, which works for the most part, but can be distracting at times (as far as found footage movies go, this one is near the top of the list though). It's a short, tight film that asks some big questions. What do you think of Chronicle? Cinema Heroes YouTube Instagram Twitter

We continue breaking down Josh Trank's Fantastic Four (god, I really don't want to type Fant4stic) and attempt to fix it! Well, kinda. Instead of fixing this script, Jack pitches a page-one rewrite that should make longtime comic fans very happy. We go over some of Marvel's First Family's weird changes and variations through history, cover more details about Trank's Twitter drama, bemoan the folly of the seemingly-ubiquitous 3rd Act Massive Superhero Fight, emphasize the importance of respecting source material (instead of worrying about whether you're making something silly), and revel in our shared love of Portishead while lamenting some of this film's soundtrack choices. Jack continues his distaste for Mark Millar, Joe goes on a rant about bad science, and we ask the big question: Would Galactus spoon up planets like fancy French cuisine? But first, of course, we jus had to cover some weird superhero sex stuff. CW: Sex stuff (as mentioned above) and discussion of black characters being turned into things (seriously, if we need correcting over this, let us know by emailing us at derazzledpodcast@gmail.com) Podcast Plugged In This Episode: The Geeky Dad Podcast (@geekydadpodcast on Twitter) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/derazzled/support
We crack open the second half of season 2 by tackling the other, non-50-Shades film that co-won Worst Picture at the 2015 Golden Raspberries, Josh Trank's Fantastic Four (or is it Fant4stic?). We cover the history of film adaptations of Marvel's First Family, from the rights-hoarding Roger Corman attempt to this most recent version. Watching four movies repeatedly while adapting to a new job and multiple post-holiday season birthday celebrations made it hard to put together a full script, but thankfully Jack is a giant comic nerd and has a cornucopia of information to pull from regarding a wide variety of Fantastic Four stories from myriad writers, some tidbits about their creation by Jack Kirby, as well as the carousel of writers that were involved in this particular project. Will Jack and Joe be able to make heads or tails of this one? Will they end up revisiting weird superhero sex stuff? Will Jack finish the synopsis before the horses can catch up with him?

SPOILER: sale mal.
So as we are stalling waiting for Charlie to come back from holiday to do the comic book movie score episode, we decided to come back to Gotham's finest. Naturally, we went to the crown jewel of the Batman franchise to sit down and watch together....... (deep sigh)... Batman and Robin. Listen to Becca, Chris and Dave as we talk Josh Trank and Cronical, films that happened in 1997, Star Wars, how many times Becca says "Ice to see you", offering our bodies to fans of the show and pretty much any thing that doesn't involve watching this god damn movie again. You can follow us on Becca, Chris and Dave on Twiter Please send us an email at expectustotalk@gmail.com to give us any feedback or add your own thoughts on any other film series you'd like us to cover. When Fox decided to reboot the Fantastic Four franchise in 2015, they took the characters in a whole new direction. Instead of a bright, light-hearted superhero adventure, director Josh Trank looked to the body horror movies of David Cronenberg for inspiration. The studio panicked in the 11th hour and rewrote the last act of the movie, and the finished product is just as weird as you would expect based on these creative decisions. With just a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes, this is the worst reviewed movie we have covered yet! We maybe had to dig deeper than usual but we're still bringing you all the positives from this truly bizarre comic book adaptation. 43 Confirmed Kills Hello, and welcome to a special epsiode of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. This week, we're releasing something from our Patreon archive. Previously Patreon-exclusive, the time has come to share with you all our commentary on Josh Trank's 2015 film, Fantastic Four. One of the more notable failures in the decade in which cinema became defined by superhero movies, this was Steve's second watch-through and Andy's first, and dates from late 2016. How dis the film hold up 18 months after release? Did it deserve the critical and fan kicking it received? Was it fair to judge what we received? What was up with Kate O'Mara's hair? And why does Doctor Doom keep killing the black guy? Answer to some of these questions, and more, can be found within... Colin Trevorrow is out as director of Episode IX. This comes after the firing of Josh Trank and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller on other Star Wars movies. At this point, people are starting to wonder about the Lucasfilm approach of hiring less proven directors to work on such a massive franchise.
This week, we're joined by Myles Griffin of The More You Nerd as we discuss Josh Trank's 2015 box office bomb, Fantastic Four (also stylized as Fant4stic) rated 9% on Rotten Tomatoes. Starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell, this superhero reboot was plagued with studio interference and a spastic director, which led to shaky ground and an unsatisfying movie. As far as technical craft and formalism, this is the best movie we've watched on our journey. While not ideal, Fantastic Four presents a grounded, grittier world with an okay enough story to hook the viewer. It all falls apart during the final act of the film, as the studio forced in a comic book ending. We analyze what worked and what didn't, why Josh Trank famously panned his own movie as it came out, and how you could possibly make a great Fantastic Four film. We finish the episode with another round of 20 Questions—this time pertaining to Game of Thrones! Of course, we'd much rather answer your questions, so send us listener mail at TheCriticalBreakdownPodcast@gmail.com or leave it in a review for us on iTunes!
