They're joined by comic book artist GABRIEL HARDMAN (Green Latern: Earth One, Kinski) who has had a long and successful career doing storyboards for a wide variety of big Hollywood movies; everything from the Austin Powers trilogy, to Dark Knight Rises, to Logan, to Interstellar, to Ford v Ferrari. And of course many projects only ever saw visual life with Hardman's pen. We discuss a bevy of almost-was projects that Hardman worked on, including SILVER SURFER, Mike Myers' DIETER, Bryan Singer's LOGAN'S RUN remake, JOHN CARTER OF MARS, and much more! This episode originally aired in two parts on 3/24/16 and 3/25/16. It features Gavin Napier prosecuting Man of Steel and then Mark Radulich and Robert Winfree defending Man of Steel.Reaction to the film among comics creators was mixed. Those who enjoyed it include Jeff Parker, Heidi MacDonald, Ethan Van Sciver, Christos Gage and former Superman writer Dan Jurgens. Among its detractors were Joe Keatinge, Sean McKeever, Gabriel Hardman and Mark Waid. MacDonald praised the film's action, drama and leads Henry Cavill and Amy Adams. Van Sciver singled out Cavill in particular for praise. Gage called it the best Superman film since 1980's Superman II. Hardman said that he liked a lot of the mechanics but did not connect with the characters, which robbed the story of tension. Waid, who wrote the origin miniseries Superman: Birthright, criticized the film for its overall "joyless" tone, and for Superman's decision to kill Zod, a criticism echoed by other creators. Writer Grant Morrison, who wrote the critically acclaimed miniseries All-Star Superman, expressed mixed reaction to the film, saying that while they "kinda liked it and kinda didn't", it did not present anything new, as they would have preferred a "second act" type story with Lex Luthor instead of re-establishing the character by presenting information Morrison is already familiar with. Morrison also questioned the need for a superhero to kill, as did artist Neal Adams. Adams suggested that other alternatives were open to Superman when Zod threatened innocent people with his heat vision, such as covering his eyes. He also criticized Superman for not moving the battle away from Metropolis as the character did at the end of Superman II. Jim Lee had a positive opinion: "It's epic. It's got a lot of heart, but one of the things that was kind of missing from the last Superman movie I think was the action, and this movie has it in spades. I mean it is a visual thrill ride. It is amazing. You get to see all the powers of Superman, and in all its glory, and I think people are going to be blown away."Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsosnapchat: markkind76FB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulich

How art college wasn't an ideal fit and the hustle ethic it took to get work at MARVEL and DC at such a young age. He also talks in-depth about his storytelling process as the storyboard artist for films like AUSTIN POWERS, INCEPTION, LOGAN, and others. Great wisdom in this one.

For this episode I have Gabriel Hardman.  Now Gabriel and I got in touch over Twitter, thanks to good guy Duncan Fegredo. I didn't actually know much about Gabriel, but after some  searching online I found that I was in fact aware of some of his work. He's a comic book artist and writer. And he's also a very sought after storyboard artist. So I got in touch with Gabriel and immediately it was obvious that he was a good guy and he said he was willing to come on the podcast to talk about his work.So we spoke a few weeks ago now, again over zoom. Having seen some of his storyboards I was keen to ask him about the process that he goes through to create them. When he's brought on board, when he finishes his job on a film and I was quite surprised with some of the answers actually. I also wanted to talk to him about his comic books, and as part of my research, I read one of his Aliens books, which was great. I thought he really had a good grasp of medium and was able to create a tense atmosphere for the reader. There's a great opening scene Aliens Dust to Dust which shows he's clearly adept at using the elements of cinema and comic book artistry hand in hand.It really had me on  the edge of the seat.I hope you enjoy our conversation. Please share!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/jamiebenning)

On this episode I am joined by storyboard artist Gabriel Hardman. I spoke to him in early July after seeing him in the documentary “Harold and Lillian: A Hollywood Story”. A documentary about storyboard artist Harold Michelson and his wife Lillian Michelson, a film researcher. In the documentary they interview a current storyboard artist, Gabriel Hardamn. The documentary inspired me to track him down for this podcast. A storyboard artist is a position in the art department but as Gabriel explains they work more closely with the Director then the Production Designer. Gabriel's resume is quite impressive. Huge films like Ford vs. Ferrari, Pirates of the Caribbean, Logan, Interstellar, The Dark Knight Rising, Inception, Angels and Demons, Tropic Thunder, The Siderman movies, The Austin Power movies. I definitely learned from this interview about specifics of the position and the imagination and talent it takes to be a storyboard artist.

Interviews - Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko

The Two Guys are happy to have as their guests Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko. Their first collected volume of Invisible Republic has just recently been released, and the guys talk with the creators about the origins of this project, its initial incubation period, and their efforts in bringing the series to Image Comics. Invisible Republic is a science fiction narrative, taking place on a distant moon in the Gliese system in the twenty-eighth century, but it's much more of a story of political intrigue set against a backdrop of journalistic investigation. The first trade collects issues #1-5 of the series, and the next narrative arc begins later this month with issue #6. Derek and Andy W. also ask Corinna and Gabriel about their collaborative relationship, their work on Invisible Republic as well as other series (including the Planet of the Apes franchise), and how it may complement -- or perhaps even challenge -- their personal partnership. The guys also use the opportunity to talk with the two about their other creator-owned projects, such as Kinski, Heathentown, and the upcoming The Crooked Man. The topics of beekeeping, pet ownership, and even Donald Trump (unfortunately) make their ways into their conversation, making this a well-rounded talk. There is a lot packed into this interview, and the discussion that unfolds is one of the most thought-provoking you'll hear in any comics podcast.

Re-Posting this episode with Marvel artist Gabe Hardman. The sound is a little muffled in the interview, but I did my best to clean it up.We talk about Gabe's work on HULK, and his and Jeff Parker's Plan's to broaden the Red Hulk's (General Thunderbolt Ross) rogues gallery. Plus we talk about the wrap-up to ATLAS, and Gabe's work as a storyboard artist in Hollywood.Did you know Gabe was the brains behind an amazing sequence from a recent Super hero film?Director Bryan Singer came to Gabe with the vague direction "Superman saves people in a plane" for Superman returns. Gabe and the technical crew came up with arguably the best sequence of the entire film.Let's start petitioning the Hollywood brass to get Gabe in the director's chair!
