Engineers (and marketing folks) love new technology. Watching an engineer learn or unwrap some new technology is like watching a dog chase a squirrel—the point is not to catch the squirrel, it's just that the chase is really fun. Join Andrew Wertkin (from BlueCat Networks), Tom Ammon, and Russ White as we discuss the importance of simple, boring technologies, and moderating our love of the new.
In this episode, brought to you by BlueCat Networks, we explore the importance of DNS to the way modern cloud operates and decide whether or not DNS is critical for the operation of modern cloud. © Gestalt IT, LLC for Gestalt IT: DNS is Critical for Modern Cloud
On today's episode, sponsored by BlueCat Networks, we examine the technology and human challenges that arise when you integrate on-prem and the public cloud. You can't continue to do things in the cloud with traditional toolsets and processes. You need to update the tech and the people, including how they collaborate. We also discuss a new report that examines the need for, and challenges of, integrating networking and cloud teams. Our guest is Andrew Wertkin, Chief Strategy Officer at BlueCat.

Today on the program, I have a conversation with serial tech entrepreneur and investor Michael Hyatt. He's the co-founder of Bluecat Networks, a b2b tech company Michael started with his brother Richard Hyatt back in 2001. Sixteen years later, Bluecat was acquired for a reported 400 million dollars. Michael is now a prominent angel investor funding the next generation of great entrepreneurs, a guest panellist on Gimlet's The Pitch, a member of the CEO Board of Advisors at Georgian Partners, one of Canada's leading venture capital firms, in addition to his philanthropic efforts, as the chair of the Hyatt Family Foundation. I sat down with Michael to discuss all things Bluecat, his journey as a serial entrepreneur and the future of entrepreneurship and startups in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. This conversation was recorded on August 6th, 2020, thanks for listening!

Over the years, our networks have become complex and we have multiple infrastructure systems to maintain such as on-prem DHCP, VPC connections to public cloud, public facing, etc. Tell everyone a little bit about the challenge and your findings with customers in the industry.Topic 3 - I’ve heard Enterprise DNS and DDI (DNS, DHCP, IPAM), what’s the difference? Doesn’t everyone just use a spreadsheet still? :) What’s changed?Topic 4 - How has an era of new devices (VOIP, IoT, Edge, etc.) affected management and security approaches?Topic 5 - What are the tradeoffs and design considerations when it comes to all of the above (multiple clouds, multiple types of devices, multiple vendors with management tools). Are we talking about an overlay, a replacement tool? How does this unification happen? Aren’t there differences for instance in DNS implementations between vendors?Topic 6 - What’s next for industry? What are the use cases both today and in the future?FEEDBACK?Email: show at thecloudcast dot netTwitter: @thecloudcastnet

BlueCat Networks offers a free add-on product to their DDI (DNS, DHCP, IPAM) product called Gateway. Gateway is a platform customers can use to create their own custom APIs that make sense for their business. Put another way, Gateway provides a REST API endpoint for other applications within the business to talk to. That makes for some interesting workflow capabilities. The post BiB 067: Custom APIs For Business Logic With BlueCat Gateway appeared first on Packet Pushers.
