Len is the Founder of Milestone Towers, a Seven‑Summits contender, and Chairman of the foundation, Hopecam.  In his conversation with Ryan, Len traces the moment his eight‑year‑old son asked, “Am I going to die?” and how that question sparked a mission now connecting 5,500+ children with cancer to their classmates in every U.S. state.  He breaks down the mindset that powers 3,000‑mile bike races, South‑Pole ski treks, and this month's Everest attempt. He reminds us that while he can choose to turn back on his journey on Everest, the kids with cancer don't have that option  Along the way he reveals why the true summit isn't a ridgeline at 29,000 feet but a kitchen table stacked with blueberry pancakes for a daughter who once called him out for training too much.

Gale Henderson's story is one of resilience, reinvention, and deep-rooted community values. A third-generation Detroiter with family ties to Alabama, she grew up on the west side of the city, where her family owned multiple homes and businesses, fostering a strong sense of connection and support. Her journey took her from journalism to corporate communications in the automotive industry, where she learned firsthand the challenges of being a young Black woman in a male-dominated field. “If you incorporate right, you're going to go in there and you're going to be undervalued for sure,” she reflects, emphasizing the importance of mentorship and support in navigating corporate spaces. When she lost her job, she took a bold step into software development through a coding bootcamp, ultimately launching her own digital communications firm. Now, she's a leader in Detroit's tech scene, advocating for diversity and teaching coding to youth. Through it all, her foundation has remained unwavering: “I am my sister's keeper. Emphasizing the importance of early wins, he touches on the key considerations for product-market fit, the value of CEO-led sales in early stages, and strategic customer profiling. Richard also delves into effective lead generation tactics, the role of partnerships, and the significance of having a strong sales training program. The conversation offers rich insights on scaling startups, balancing compensation structures, and the essentials of building value-driven customer relationships.KEY TAKEAWAYSRick Hegberg is a renowned figure in the semiconductor industry and an entrepreneurial leader involved in multiple startups and boards, currently the chairman of Aspinity.Significant career highlights include leadership roles at Motorola, VLSI Technology, Lucent Microelectronics, ATI Technologies, and involvement in critical acquisitions like AMD's buyout of ATI and subsequent integration.Effective go-to-market strategy is the biggest issue for startup companies, emphasizing the importance of generating sustainable revenue quickly.Early stage companies should focus on establishing a clear customer value proposition and securing initial wins that are strategic and sticky, even if they are not massive in size. The importance of CEO-led sales efforts, building a strong sales organization through a combination of trusted hires and young talent, and robust partnerships for scaling.Engaging in meaningful customer interactions and ensuring all team members, including non-sales roles, are well-prepared to contribute to the sales process.Early lead generation often relies on effective use of platforms like LinkedIn Navigator, content marketing, and leveraging partner ecosystems.QUOTES"You can have the best technology in the world, but if you don't have revenue coming in, it just doesn't matter."“Product market fit is critical. If the value proposition isn't clear and easily understood, scaling becomes very difficult.”"In early-stage companies, eliminating the nonsense and having an all-hands-on-deck mentality is crucial.""I don't spend time on titles or hierarchies; whatever it takes to get a deal done, everyone must be willing to do it.""Achieving minimal viable product (MVP) quickly is crucial; perfecting a product can take too long and consume too many resources.""First engagements must be strategic and built to be long-lasting; the expense of acquiring early customers must be justified by long-term value.""Finding the right partners for a mutual go-to-market strategy is essential for early-stage companies to scale effectively and economically."Find out more about Richard Hegberg through the link/s below:https://www.linkedin.com/in/richard-hegberg-ba627a63/This episode is sponsored by Sandler. It sounds easy but it's not. Paul has been on an amazing journey for the past 4 years and we take you with us on the ride. It all started when Paul was 11 years old and he went to work in the family publishing and events business. Instead of participating in school sports, he spent his time working. He eventually left the family business and worked in tech. In 2000, he co-founded Zumasys, a fast-growing technology company.  Over two decades later, Paul sold off his business interest. Like many people, the transition has not been an easy one for him. "When you decide to step away from your primary act in life, it challenges your relationships, your identity, your ego." He tried to find a peer group for mid-life advice to minimize the sudden isolation and lack of purpose but couldn't find one. So he started "The Exit Club", to connect with others going through the same transition.  Paul reflects on it all and says, "It took a while to learn who I am was not my business". • More about Paul Giobbi:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulgiobbi/  • More about Paul Walks: https://paulwalks.com/  • Episode Content:  https://pickleballmediahq.com/blog/Paul-Giobbi-High-Tech-Entrepreneur-Starts-The-Exit-Club • Sponsored by How to Retire and Not Die: https://garysirak.com/how-to-retire-and-not-die/  • Sponsored by Capital Advantage:  https://capitaladvantage.com/promotion/retirement-planning-guide/  • I Used to be Somebody World Tour:  https://pickleballmediahq.com/tour/  • Subscribe to the I Used to be Somebody Newsletter:  https://pickleballmediahq.com/contact/subscribe

About Nelson Nigel:Nelson Nigel, Founder and CEO of Kidmoto Technology, is an expert in transportation technology, specializing in safe and convenient travel solutions for parents with small children. In 2016, inspired by his experience as an Uber driver, he identified a gap in the market for child car seats in taxis and car services and developed a mobile app connecting parents with skilled drivers for secure airport transfers. Despite a challenging background, including growing up poor in New York and surviving a life-threatening train accident, Nelson built Kidmoto into a trusted brand operating in 52 U.S. cities, completing over 40,000 rides, achieving 7-figure revenue in 2023, and reaching a valuation of $25 million. In this episode, Dean Newlund and Nelson Nigel discuss:Innovative leadership in niche marketsTransforming personal challenges into business opportunitiesThe process and importance of business planningBuilding and managing a national infrastructure for startupsPerseverance and execution in entrepreneurial ventures Key Takeaways:Develop a detailed business plan as your blueprint before starting any venture. Nelson emphasized the importance of "blueprints" in shaping Kidmoto's foundation, revisiting and refining his plan consistently before taking action.Start small and focus on steady progress, as Kidmoto began in New York City, where Nelson tested and perfected the model before gradually expanding the service to 53 cities across the U.S.Resolve customer issues quickly and seek qualified advice, as Nelson learned the hard way when a refusal to issue a $75 refund—based on unqualified guidance—led to over $100,000 in lost business.Persevere with focus and execution, as Nelson worked up to 20-hour days to implement his vision step by step, comparing the process to following a mapped route that ensures consistent progress toward the goal. "You just have to start small.
