Jordan Henry is the latest guest to join host Dan Kerry on The Nottingham Panthers' Audio Experience, in association with The Nottingham Building Society. The defenceman may never have played in the Elite League but he's got plenty of connections to this side of the pond and he gets into all of those whilst telling some truly wonderful stories from his lengthy career.Jordan spent the final five seasons of his career at the ECHL's Brampton Beast where he played alongside former Panthers' Jeff Brown, Mathieu Gagnon, Tim Billinglsey plus the one and only David Ling - so you know the know the tales will be worth tuning in for.Due to the players David Ling sent the Panthers way the Nottingham fans have heard a lot about the Beast and now you can get the inside track, from someone who made a home there, on an organisation and a city you've heard all about. On top of that Jordan gets into his excursions into Europe (where he played in Belarus, Sweden and Finland), playing in the AHL, being named the captain of two organisations and hanging up his skates after the completion of the 2019/20 season. It's another not to be missed episode of The Nottingham Panthers' Audio Experience, in association with The Nottingham Building Society.
We have our very first guest on our podcast. Cary Kaplan of Cosmos Sports and Entertainment and owner of the Brampton Beast speaks with Alson about his time in hockey and with the ECHL. Plus, we test Geoffrey's resolve with the firing of Claude Julien and bits from Anson and Alson. We're also joined by former play-by-play voice for the Brampton Beast, Anthony Fusco (@FuscoNation16), to say goodbye to the Senators ECHL team. He tells us about his experience working for the Beast, Hogberg and Daccord's time there and some closing thoughts about the team folding. In this episode I have Spiros Anastas on the podcast. Spiros is the head coach for the Brampton Beast of the ECHL. Going from a playing career where his goal was simply to add value to the team in whatever way he could, his transition to coaching was seamless. One of the first takeaways I believe we can all take from Spiros is his passion for the game of hockey and love of coaching. Turning down the world of finance & huge paycheques to pursue a career doing something he LOVES. This is the way to live a happy life, plain and simple. Although Spiros is coming at this from a coaches perspective there is a lot in this episode that athletes can take away on their own. * Set your game keys - What do you do best? How do you best provide value for your team? When things get tough, get back to setting your sights on what you need to do instead of what has gone wrong before. * Don't go through it on your own - Everyone struggles. Talk to your coaches about it. Let them understand what you're going through. Coaches are there to help you. If they know what's going on they are better equipped to help you with whatever the issue is.* Identify where the mistakes are happening. Don't simply accept "I am not playing well right now" Formulate a response. What is going wrong? How can you fix it? What do you need to do to ensure you can fix the problem?* Understand your role - Every player contributes to team success. You don't need to be the guy who scores the goal. Understand what YOU need to do and continue to do it to the best of your ability. Even if you are not on the scoresheet, you can contribute.* Breed your culture - Even if you aren't a captain, be a leader on the team. What kind of culture do you want on your team? When you see a player doing their job well, go out of your way to point it out. This excites them and breeds a culture of positivity within your teammates. It is easy to catch what is going wrong. Be the one who catches things going right! * Create the positive - No matter what you go through in your career, create the positive out of it. Don't look at it negatively. Whatever happens can be an opportunity. Show up and dominate! Thank you for tuning into another episode of The Elite Development Podcast! I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to listen to this episode. I would love it if you could take some time to leave a rating or review for the show.
