Londra'da yer alan Barbican Center'da yaklaşık bir ay kadar önce “Unravel: the Power and Politics of Textiles in Art,” [Çözülme: Sanatta Tekstilin Gücü ve Politikası] başlıklı bir sergi açıldı. Pankaj Mishra tarafından verilmesi planlanan “The Shoah after Gaza” başlıklı konferans olayların alevlenmesine neden oldu. Öte yandan Kültür İşçileri Soykırıma Karşı(Culture Workers Against Genocid), Barbican CEO'su Clare Spencer ve yönetim kurulundan, Mishra'nın konuşmasının iptal edilmesine ve Filistin merkezli Radio Al Hara'nın kurucularından Elias Anastas'ın "sansür" uygulanmasına yol açan karar alma süreci hakkında "tam şeffaflık" talep etti. Anastas olayını da kısaca hatırlamakta fayda var.

Step into the fascinating realm of cinematography with our special guest, Anastas Michos, ASC GSC. A seasoned expert in the field, Anastas unlocks the mysteries of television and feature film cinematography, highlighting the way technology is reshaping these two distinct mediums. Cinematographer Anastas Michos ASC, GSC humbly calls himself a journeyman cinematographer. However, after 25 years and multiple awards, Anastas possesses expert skill and versatility that can be seen across all genres. Most recently, Anastas was nominated for an Emmy for “The Autopsy,” an episode of Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities anthology TV series on Netflix. Del Toro selected the directors for each episode of Cabinet of Curiosities, and he chose idiosyncratic directors who brought their own sensibilities to each piece. Anastas had worked with “The Autopsy” director David Prior before on a horror film called The Empty Man, and they enjoyed collaborating together again. Anastas enjoyed working on Cabinet of Curiosities because it felt like making a short film rather than a TV show, with each piece a crafted short story rather than a serialization. For a consistent look, each episode used the same production designer, Tamara Deverell, who also did the production design for del Toro's Nightmare Alley. While shooting the episode, Anastas was always conscious that “The Autopsy” should fall under the look of del Toro's brand. Anastas has always enjoyed shooting horror films because they explore the human condition in a very specific way. The cinematographer can creatively stretch the imagination and the image in a way that can't be done as much in dramas, comedies or romances, since they're usually based in our day to day reality. But Anastas likes to switch around among genres- after working on an intense horror film such as Texas Chainsaw 3D, a light rom com might sound really good. He's interested in any project that has a great story, script, director and crew. Before finding his way behind a camera, Anastas thought he'd go into the music business since he grew up in a musical family. Instead, he became a news cameraperson, learning visual storytelling on the job. He's found that his music background has actually served him well as a cinematographer- he feels musicality is very much a part of camera movement. One memorable time early in his career, Anastas was working Steadicam for Born on the Fourth of July. Director Oliver Stone pulled him aside and had Anastas put on a walkman so that he could move the camera to the pace of the music Stone wanted. After working as a camera and Steadicam operator for several years, Anastas got to shoot his first feature as a DP for Man on the Moon. Anastas found director Milos Forman to be simultaneously generous and demanding, with the capability of recognizing someone's potential and holding them to it. Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities anthology TV series is on Netflix. Find Anastas Michos: http://anastasmichos.com/ Instagram: @anastasmichos_asc_gsc IT'S A BOOK GIVEAWAY! Also a member of the "Boston Crew" and the original bassist of Slapshot, Anastas has deep roots in the early days of American Hardcore. To continue to accept these realities is absurdity. To not do anything about them is obscenity. To not profit from the unexpected solutions that sustainability offers would be humankind's greatest missed opportunity. (Bhatnagar and Anastas, 2022) "the work of sustainability, I would say, globally, has just started" Natural resource inputs to business operations are getting scarcer and more expensive, while climate-change-related economic shocks pose a risk to seamless operations and, more importantly, threaten business continuity. How can organizations integrate sustainable design in their overarching operations and align it with profitability and corporate strategy? In their book The Sustainability Scorecard: How to Implement and Profit from Unexpected Solutions, Bhatnagar and Anastas show business leaders and innovators how to create breakthrough sustainable products and processes that are good for the planet, human health, and profits. The Sustainability Scorecard is a digestible and comprehensive guide rooted in scientific and data-driven methodology. This required read unpacks how sustainable operations can produce beneficial results through market share and new service line expansion, supply chain and sourcing model transformation—driving the most consistent and long-term value. Based on Paul Anastas's foundational Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry, the Sustainability Scorecard is the first scientifically rooted, data-driven methodology for creating inherently sustainable and profitable products and processes. By redesigning with sustainability as a key design element, firms open themselves to unexpected solutions, leapfrog innovations, and sources of value that simply don't occur when sustainability is leveraged purely as a risk-avoidance and compliance measure. Bio Authors URVASHI BHATNAGAR, DPT, MBA is a healthcare executive whose career spans clinical care, research, advocacy and strategy and operations consulting for leading healthcare organizations. As a mission-driven population-health and sustainability expert, she has over a decade of healthcare leadership experience working with clients to advance health outcomes in underserved communities leveraging advanced analytics and strategy—to address barriers to care, advancing health equity, and improving access to life-altering high-quality care. Bhatnagar holds an MBA from Yale University and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Boston University. She believes global wellness can be achieved through sustained and intentional investment in products and processes that are designed to be inherently sustainable and capturing value from the triple bottom line advantages that sustainability offers. PAUL ANASTAS, PhD is the Director of Yale University's Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering, where he holds the Theresa and H. John Heinz chair in Chemistry for the Environment. Previously, he served as the Science Advisor to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, as well as the Agency's Assistant Administrator for Research and Development, appointed by President Barack Obama. Known as the “Father of Green Chemistry” for his ground-breaking work on the design and manufacture of chemicals that are non-hazardous, environmentally benign, and cost effective, Anastas is a fierce champion of sustainability science and innovation for environmental protection. He was the recipient of the prestigious Volvo Environment Prize in 2021 and is widely published and his work and collaborations have been widely covered in leading media outlets.
It was my great honor to talk with Suzanne Haber about the importance of anatomy in neurosurgery and neuromodulation as a whole. Among many other topics, we discussed her seminal work on the subthalamic nucleus, the anterior limb of the internal capsule and briefly present work on the zona incerta, also in synopsis with earlier work from Mahlon DeLong (#22) and Anne Young (#23). Crucially, Suzanne is not only an anatomist but one with a particular interest in deep brain stimulation. She leads a Conte center with the NIMH focused on Obsessive Compulsive Disorders and has carried out seminal work about the striatal system. One key area Suzanne has worked on lately was the comparison between noninvasive imaging (diffusion-MRI based tractography) and tract tracing data. Together with Anastasía Yendiki (Martinos Center Boston), she runs the "iron tract challenge", in which tractography methods folk competes to reconstruct tracts from diffusion data as best they can – which are then compared to the ground truth from tracing data. Together with Cameron McIntyre (#10), alongside three other anatomists, Suzanne recently created the basal ganglia pathway atlas which represents a unique dataset to study connectomic deep brain stimulation data.

Urvashi Bhatnagar, co-author with Paul Anastas of The Sustainability Scorecard: How to Implement and Profit from Unexpected Solutions, explains the four principles for managing and scaling sustainability. These ideas can be applied to build a sustainable business at a startup or large company dto accelerate progress toward low- and no-waste products and services. Urvashi discusses reframing business decisions to emphasize waste reduction. She suggests what we waste today can be the basis for profitable growth without the severe environmental damage that resulted from the Industrial Era. She shares ideas about how to engage executives and employees in sustainability programs and how to be transparent about their environmental commitments. The new book extends the Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry that Anastas, who is known as the father of green chemistry, and John Warner first introduced in 1998. Those ideas transformed the way chemistry is done. Following their introduction, a new generation of chemists has focused on using low-temperature, biologically responsible processes that mimic natural processes. They create chemicals and products that are recyclable or biodegrade instead of leaving toxins in nature. The Sustainability Scorecard: How to Implement and Profit from Unexpected Solutions is available on Amazon and at Powell's Books.
A disciple of Shahumyan, Anastas Mikoyan was a native of the village of Sanahin, in the historical Lori region of Armenia. A survivor from Il'ich Lenin to Il'ich Brezhnev, he became renowned both in the Soviet Union and internationally for his role as a consummate diplomat and for his management of foreign trade. However, less well known has been Mikoyan's role in Armenian affairs. Although forced by Stalin to participate in the 1930s repressions in Armenia, he would later become the major force behind de-Stalinization in his native republic. He also worked behind the scenes as an informal lobbyist for Yerevan in Moscow, securing key support for Armenia from the Kremlin. The series is hosted by historian Pietro A. Shakarian and produced by Sona Nersesyan.

Anastas Mikoyan was an incredible figure. An Armenian old Bolshevik whose career spanned decades all the way from active involvement in the Baku Commune of 1918 to playing a central role in the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Mikoyan's role as First Deputy Premier under Khrushchev and architect of de-Stalinization and thaw-era nationality policies meant his career of policy making influenced the trajectory of the entire Soviet Union. He also maintained close political and personal ties to the goings on in his native Armenia. Our guest to discuss Mikoyan, Soviet Armenia and much more is Dr. Pietro A. Shakarian - a Lecturer in History at the American University of Armenia in Yerevan, and a historian of Armenia, Russia, and the Caucasus, with a particular focus on Soviet Armenia during the era of Khrushchev's Thaw. Alex Anastas will be creating live art, you can take home this week https://fb.me/e/4hVlH8s3U Friday, 10th June at Almost Fridays s02e05! Come along from 6pm to see what happens when the worlds of indie music, visual arts, and electronic music collide with extreme prejudice. Come join the family. Alex Anastas & Ryan chat moleskins, creativity, what it's like to do live artwork at Almost Fridays, donation wars, being an ex-pat New Yorker, living in Sydney, live remixing, making art without a net, and generally get along as well as you would expect, when a bush-fire meets a brush-fire. Keep an eye on Alex' instagram to stay a-full-breast of his adventures. Alex Anastas was born and raised just outside of NYC, but has lived in Sydney off and on since 2006. Dabbling in a bit of everything with art over the years, he mainly makes art based around the concept of synesthesia. Often this manifests itself as literal but gestural real-time sketches in pen while at concerts. If it is a 2 set affair the second set will be more surrealist expressive as to what is being felt from the music. In recent times, Alex has been commissioned to make live art at concerts by the promoters, venues and musicians themselves. Jonathan Anastas started playing in the Boston hardcore scene as a fourteen year-old in the seminal band D.Y.S., and his love for marketing and promotion followed soon after. He was instrumental in the development of the ‘crossover’ sound of punk meets metal that swept the scene, and was seemingly done with music altogether soon after high school. Initially planning to become a lawyer, he discovered advertising and marketing instead, and was an early pioneer of the digital marketing and video game industries. In our conversation, we talk about how many hardcore kids learned about P&L from Dischord Records, how a Metallica show at the Rat may have been as influential as Black Flag for the Boston scene and why so many marketing tactics may have gotten their start in the underground music scene. In this episode I have Spiros Anastas on the podcast. Spiros is the head coach for the Brampton Beast of the ECHL. Going from a playing career where his goal was simply to add value to the team in whatever way he could, his transition to coaching was seamless. One of the first takeaways I believe we can all take from Spiros is his passion for the game of hockey and love of coaching. Turning down the world of finance & huge paycheques to pursue a career doing something he LOVES. This is the way to live a happy life, plain and simple. Although Spiros is coming at this from a coaches perspective there is a lot in this episode that athletes can take away on their own. * Set your game keys - What do you do best? How do you best provide value for your team? When things get tough, get back to setting your sights on what you need to do instead of what has gone wrong before. * Don't go through it on your own - Everyone struggles. Talk to your coaches about it. Let them understand what you're going through. Coaches are there to help you. If they know what's going on they are better equipped to help you with whatever the issue is.* Identify where the mistakes are happening. Don't simply accept "I am not playing well right now" Formulate a response. What is going wrong? How can you fix it? What do you need to do to ensure you can fix the problem?* Understand your role - Every player contributes to team success. You don't need to be the guy who scores the goal. Understand what YOU need to do and continue to do it to the best of your ability. Even if you are not on the scoresheet, you can contribute.* Breed your culture - Even if you aren't a captain, be a leader on the team. What kind of culture do you want on your team? When you see a player doing their job well, go out of your way to point it out. This excites them and breeds a culture of positivity within your teammates. It is easy to catch what is going wrong. Be the one who catches things going right! * Create the positive - No matter what you go through in your career, create the positive out of it. Don't look at it negatively. Whatever happens can be an opportunity. Show up and dominate! Thank you for tuning into another episode of The Elite Development Podcast! Aired 11/21/10 JOHN WARNER and Paul Anastas are the founders of green chemistry and co-authors of Green Chemistry: Theory and Practice, in which, they establish 12 guiding principles for chemists. In 1996 Warner left a lucrative job at Polaroid to found the nation's first doctoral program in green chemistry, and in 2007 he founded Warner Babcock Institute for Green Chemistry, an innovation incubator, in Wilmington, Mass. Green Chemistry is a revolutionary approach to the way that products are made; it is a science that aims to reduce or eliminate the use and/or generation of hazardous substances in the design phase of materials development. It requires an inventive and interdisciplinary view of material and product design. Green Chemistry follows the principle that it is better to consider waste prevention options during the design and development phase than to dispose or treat waste after a process or material has been developed. http://www.warnerbabcock.com/ http://www.epa.gov/gcc/
