Episode Summary In this episode of the Breakfast Leadership Show, host Michael D. Levitt sits down with Brent Stewart, owner of Stewart Law Offices, a personal injury firm serving North and South Carolina that has been in practice for thirty one years. Brent shares what drew him to personal injury law, how his firm handles tractor trailer and trucking accident cases, and why the emotional weight of closing a case can rival the weight of the accident itself. The conversation covers driver negligence, the imbalance of resources between families and trucking companies, and the counseling role attorneys play long after the legal work is finished. Guest Bio Brent Stewart is the owner of Stewart Law Offices, a personal injury firm based in North and South Carolina with more than three decades of experience representing families affected by tractor trailer and trucking accidents. His practice focuses on holding negligent drivers and trucking companies accountable while guiding clients through the legal and emotional realities of a serious injury or wrongful death claim. What You Will Learn Why Brent chose personal injury law and the mentor who shaped his approach to the work How trucking companies respond immediately after a serious accident and why that matters for families What a spoliation letter is and why it is one of the first steps in a trucking case Why trucking cases often take years to resolve and what that means for the families involved Why the emotional toll of closing a case can be as significant as the accident that started it Why law firms and mental health resources should work more closely together after a settlement Why a free consultation with a personal injury attorney is worth the call, even if you never hire them Episode Highlights The Path Into Personal Injury Law Brent describes growing up aware of how quickly a family's financial stability could shift and how a summer clerking for attorney Jim Bordas in Wheeling, West Virginia showed him the impact a lawyer can have on a family in crisis. The Realities of Trucking Litigation Michael and Brent discuss the rise in serious trucking accidents, the importance of driver training and licensing, and the aggravating circumstances that can arise when trucking companies fail to preserve evidence after a wreck. Resources and the David and Goliath Dynamic Brent explains why trucking companies move quickly to protect their bottom line after an accident and why families need an attorney with the experience and resources to match that response. Closure and the Emotional Weight of Settlement One of the most candid moments of the episode covers what happens after a case settles. Brent shares that the emotions clients feel at closure can be nearly as intense as the day the accident happened, because the case itself has often become a source of stability during a difficult chapter of their lives. Words of Wisdom Brent closes with a reminder that a consultation with a personal injury attorney costs nothing and that anyone affected by a serious accident owes it to their family to make the call and get informed before deciding what to do next. In the railroad town of Brewster, Ohio, the Wandle House was built to welcome railroad workers. Today, it welcomes paranormal investigators. Built in 1916 by the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad, the building provided railroad crews with a place to stay between assignments. With more than 60 dormitory rooms, a restaurant, theater, library, and bowling alley, it became a home away from home for generations of railroad workers. Today, the Brewster-Sugar Creek Historical Society preserves the Wandle House as a museum dedicated to that rich railroad history. But history isn't the only thing visitors remember. Over the years, reports of shadow figures, unexplained voices, apparitions, phantom footsteps, and other strange encounters have added an unexpected chapter to the Wandle House's story, drawing paranormal investigators eager to discover what may still linger inside its historic walls. As a trustee of the Brewster-Sugar Creek Historical Society, Andrew Hess has a unique perspective on both the history and the mystery of the Wandle House. He joins us to explore the building's remarkable past, the unexplained experiences that spark paranormal investigations, and why this historic landmark continues to fascinate everyone who walks through its doors.#TheGraveTalks #WandleHouse #HauntedOhio #RailroadHistory #Paranormal #GhostHunting #HistoricHauntings #HauntedMuseum #OhioGhosts #ParanormalPodcastFor more information on paranormal investigations, click here.Love real ghost stories? On this week's episode of Inside West Virginia Politics, our guests join Rick Johnson to discuss the school aid formula, incumbency and Wheeling's flood recovery.
The Hiss Perjury Conviction and the Ignition of the McCarthy Era GUEST: Nick Bunker On January 25, 1950, the conviction of Alger Hiss for perjury electrified American politics, seemingly validating Republican claims that Washington was "full of communist subversives." Seizing the moment, Dean Acheson made a controversial statement of personal loyalty to Hiss, which Joe McCarthy immediately used to launch his crusade. In February, McCarthy famously alleged in Wheeling, West Virginia, that he had a list of 56 card-carrying communists in the State Department. Democratic Majority Leader Scott Lucas failed to stop McCarthy, finding himself outmaneuvered by the Senator's "aggression" and "inventiveness." Lucas made a critical historical error by agreeing to a Senate subcommittee to investigate the allegations, providing McCarthy with a national stage to harry the President during an election year. This platform allowed the scandal to grow publicly, transforming McCarthy from a "wild card" into a powerful national figure who dominated the political scene. (5)

Jimmy and Tyler are back from very different weekends that somehow both ended the same way: hanging out with people you don’t see enough, doing stuff you love, and getting home before dark. Tyler took his toddler, Reid, out on the Rubicon for the first time, joining the Mad Hatters’ annual run at Loon. The trip came with an unexpected education: when you normally run sweep, you get out at every stop and help people. When you’re strapped to the car with a two-year-old, you’re sitting in the driver’s seat watching everyone else work for 15-minute stretches while your kid starts losing patience. By the time the group reached Spider Bowl around 10:30 am, Tyler pulled off at a campsite, radioed a goodbye, had lunch, and watched a Toyota pickup spend 30 minutes trying and failing to get up Super Bowl while Reid stood in the bed pointing at things and making everyone laugh. Two hours there, then out solo with Reid in the front seat, the air compressor cycling the rear locker, and Reid looking over every time to announce “dad tooting.” Home before 4 pm. Left at 5 am. Not a bad day. Jimmy left the assistant on her last day of school and drove up to dispersed camping near Bowman Road off Highway 20 — a trip organized around a group of high school friends he doesn’t see nearly enough, some of whom he hasn’t camped with in years. They came with trucks, a rooftop tent, a box of whiskey, handguns, a .22 rifle, Brandon’s breakfast burritos, and a set of homemade medallion awards for the weekend’s various competitions. The competitions included a shooting match (7 shooters, 10 rounds apiece at three stations — 210 shots hit paper across the board, which Jimmy found genuinely impressive), forest bocce (where bocce balls bounce off rocks and go 90 degrees), and a campfire tending category. Jimmy got fourth in the shooting competition, first in fire. He also got shot, sort of — a ricochet fragment hit one of the guys in the shoulder and another in the shin, both minor, first aid kits came out, everyone reevaluated, then they ran the formal shooting competition anyway. The guy who got hit (Michael — friend of a friend, first time meeting) turned out to be a serious whiskey person. Jimmy is also a serious whiskey person. Neither of them knew the other was bringing four bottles. They spent hours trading sips and talking. It was a great trip. They’re making it annual.
