Sobriety has taught me a lot, but one of the biggest lessons is learning to mind my own business.Recently, I dove into Mel Robbins' new book and her “Let Them” theory, and it felt like it was written just for this stage of my journey. The idea is simple but so powerful: let people do what they're going to do without trying to control or react to it. Then, Let Me.It's been a total game changer for how I handle life, relationships, and even my emotions. So, how has “Let Them” helped me let go of other people's issues and focus on my own growth? Sobriety has already made me more empathetic and less reactive, but this mindset takes it to the next level. Whether it's navigating challenges with my family, parenting an adult child, or dealing with situations in business, this shift has created so much emotional peace. I've changed the way I react to everything. The “Let Them” also relates to our emotional well-being. Dr. Amy Johnson's perspective on being curious about your emotions and giving yourself grace really hit home for me. Feeling your emotions, rather than reacting to them, has been a huge part of my sober journey. It's about slowing down, honoring your truth, and knowing that even uncomfortable feelings are part of the human experience. If you're on a sober journey or just looking for ways to create a calmer, more peaceful life, this episode is for you.I'd love to hear your thoughts and how the “Let Them Theory” is working in your life!LET'S DO DRY JANUARY TOGETHER! Dr. Johnson elaborates on the natural rhythms of life, the role of innate creativity, and how we can better align with our true nature. This episode challenges conventional goal-setting and productivity mindsets, offering a fresh perspective on achieving success by tuning into our natural flow rather than forcing outcomes. Whether you're an HR leader, manager, or someone keen on conscious business practices, this episode promises valuable insights that could transform your approach to work and life.00:00 Welcome to the Changing Work Podcast00:45 Introducing Dr. Amy Johnson01:38 Exploring Human Conditioning and Survival02:53 Animal Trackers and Life's Metaphors05:11 Balancing Goals and Inner Guidance18:15 Understanding Insight vs. Willpower23:37 Practical Techniques for Inner Peace24:59 Bringing Insights to the Workplace26:36 Final Thoughts and ResourcesTakeaways: The podcast emphasizes the significance of insight over willpower in overcoming anxiety and unwanted habits, suggesting that understanding our true nature can lead to lasting change. Listeners are encouraged to consider how their goals and desires may stem from fear or societal expectations rather than genuine passion or enjoyment. Life unfolds naturally when we relinquish control and allow ourselves to be guided by our environment and inner wisdom, much like animal trackers in nature. The conversation explores the interconnectedness of individuals, urging us to view ourselves and others as part of a collective experience rather than isolated entities. Scott and Nick highlight the importance of recognizing that our thoughts create subjective realities, which can lead to feelings of pressure and self-doubt. Through meditation, connection with nature, and self-awareness, individuals can cultivate a deeper understanding of their own thoughts and emotions, leading to better mental health. A captivating exchange unfolds as Scott and Nick converse with Dr. Amy Johnson, exploring the profound insights into human behavior and workplace dynamics. The episode begins with an introduction to Amy, whose expertise lies in helping people break free from anxiety and self-doubt through a deeper understanding of their nature rather than relying solely on willpower. This foundational idea sets the tone for a discussion that challenges conventional views on productivity and success. The trio examines how much of what drives individuals in their professional lives is influenced by societal norms, expectations, and fears, rather than authentic desires. This realization prompts a critical re-evaluation of what it means to pursue goals and how to align one's actions with their true self.As the conversation progresses, they delve into the metaphor of animal tracking, illustrating the importance of remaining present and aware in our lives. They posit that just as experienced trackers adapt to their surroundings and trust the process, individuals can learn to navigate their paths with curiosity and openness. This shift in perspective advocates for a less rigid and more fluid approach to goal-setting, suggesting that by letting go of the need to control every outcome, one can tap into a more natural flow of creativity and productivity. Nick emphasizes that this mindset can lead to a profound reduction in anxiety and self-imposed pressure, allowing for a more enriching life experience.Towards the end of the episode, the discussion turns to practical strategies for implementing these insights in the workplace.

In this message, LIFEchurch dives into what it means to share your faith in a way that's natural and real. The speaker talks about common fears and reasons we hold back, like not knowing enough or worrying about coming off the wrong way, but reminds us that sharing our faith doesn't have to be intimidating. Instead, it's about being yourself and telling your story. With personal stories, practical advice, and a bit of humor, this message encourages us to step up, share what God's done in our lives, and make 2024 a year of impact. Plus, there's an invite to check out LIFEchurch's “Art of Sharing” course—a simple, go-at-your-own-pace way to get more comfortable with evangelism. How to determine what is the highest and best use for a piece of land? What is a new product that is in high demand in certain areas? What systems to put in place to manage a growing company? Amy Johnson, managing partner of Y Street Capital, shares her knowledge.Read this episode here: https://tinyurl.com/4ajk387fHow to find the highest and best use for a piece of land?It comes down to vision. For us and our process, if it's under 5 acres, I don't want to worry about it because doing something with 3 acres is the same amount of work, and the same amount of headache, as it does with 300 acres. I'm going to look at the overview of the market, what is the need, what is the city's master plan? And just because they have something in their master plan doesn't mean they want to stick with it. What's the city's vision? What's the market's vision? What is the market demanding right now? For example, right now, I am not looking necessarily for really large lots or humongous houses, attainable housing is a lot more in demand, that means multifamily housing and townhome developments. It is not because I love the look of townhomes, but that's what the market is demanding and what is needed in the community. We've the city's vision, the market conditions vision, and then the possibility of what's there. There may also be some products that were very successful in other cities that we put it in this city. What is a new product that is in high demand in certain areas? We're fitting 30 units in 5 acres that the city wanted to just zone commercial. The commercial is great if you have a specific tenant. You've to build it specifically for the commercial people. Jack in the Box wants a specific look, Starbucks, etc. We've built this product in Brigham City, and I've also seen it be successful in other cities, the market was saying "We want some commercial but we also need attainable housing, multifamily housing, or townhomes on top". We've designed this unit that is one single tax ID. It's an individual townhome. The bottom is a commercial use that they can run a business from, they don't need to get a special license and the other two floors are the residential housing. The maker spaces are usually in high demand. They sell for about $100,000 more than the typical townhome unit. Can you share a couple of tips on how you manage things, and how you keep the company growing from a leader's perspective? These are important: 1) Delegation and utilizing the actual systems. 2) Being able to say "no" to things that don't serve you, and 3) Set expectations, and that can be expectations for vendors, other contractors that we're working with, and civil engineers having a clear scope of work. 5) I live and breathe by my calendar, if it's not on my calendar, it doesn't exist. That means even if my executive assistant and I need to work on a project, and it's just working on something, we will block that time, and we'll put it in the calendar. Or even if it's in person, it has to be on my calendar. On Sundays my husband and I go through our week and plan our week and say, "What does this week look like? Am I missing anything?"Amy Johnsonamyj@ystreetcapital.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/amy-johnson-358217162/
