Welcome to the WAB Podcast! In this episode, we're learning about Middle School Individuals & Societies. Joining us were Grade 6 student Justin, Grade 7 student Frederic, Grade 8 student Iris, along with their I&S teacher, Claudia Gomez. Claudia explains how Individuals & Societies goes beyond traditional social studies. Rooted in the IB Middle Years Programme framework, it's an interdisciplinary, skills-based subject where students learn to: Formulate meaningful research questions Design and implement action plans Reflect deeply on their learning journey This approach nurtures critical thinking, ethical action, and global awareness, preparing students for high school and a future shaped by complexity and change. What makes Individuals & Societies truly unique, Claudia noted, is its interdisciplinary nature. Students engage with history, geography, political science, economics, and psychology to understand how societies function, and how they can shape a better world. Real World Learning Our students shared how Individuals & Societies has influenced their learning across subjects and in their personal lives. Iris highlighted how the research skills she gained helped her distinguish fake news in her math and science projects. Justin found that the research and critical thinking skills he's developed are invaluable in debate competitions outside of school. Frederic appreciates how Individuals & Societies helps him understand the economic and political factors that shape history. The Individuals & Societies curriculum also centers on real-world issues through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Students research topics like environmental, social, and economic sustainability, often conducting field studies within our school community. For example, Frederic studied the economic impacts of tourism, examining a whale shark tourism model in the Philippines. For the recent field studies, he chose to explore responsible consumption and production, focusing on how efficiently we use school supplies. While Justin focused on investigating the globalization of fast food and its effects on local economies, he shared that this made him realize how global businesses can hurt small restaurants and communities. Iris emphasized how Individuals & Societies has strengthened her ability to engage with current events. She also pointed out that through her learning, she could understand more about the news, discuss with her parents at the dinner table, and ask better questions. Curious About Middle School? Tune in to this episode to hear directly from our students about how Individuals & Societies is shaping their thinking, empowering their voices, and preparing them to face real-world challenges with ethical action and informed insight.

Class is back in session, ladies! Once again, Sarah's sharing study notes from her graduate courses at Concordia University Irvine's Townsend Institute for Counseling and Leadership. In this episode on focus and productivity, drawn largely from Michael Hyatt's Free to Focus: A Total Productivity System to Achieve More by Doing Less, she covers how to: STOP. This is where we Formulate, Evaluate, and Rejuvenate. CUT. This is where we Eliminate, Automate, and Delegate. ACT. This is where we Consolidate, Designate, and Activate. “Putting some of these concepts into action has helped me so much with focusing my work and productivity – and letting go of the ‘hustle-productivity-do-all-the-things-at-once' culture,” says Sarah. “We stress ourselves out about doing 'all the things' and just need a reminder that it's okay to not do 'all the things.' We aren't called to do that. We're called to serve each other in love because we are forgiven children of God, and that in itself gives us a lot of freedom.” Connect with the Lutheran Ladies on social media in The Lutheran Ladies' Lounge Facebook discussion group (facebook.com/groups/LutheranLadiesLounge) and on Instagram @lutheranladieslounge. Where is the Teacher? 12 Shifts for a Student Centered Classroom Kyle Wagner, the founder of Transform Educational Consulting Limited, has always had a bold mission since he became an educator 15+ years ago: Create transformational learning experiences that connect students' interests and passions to issues that matter in the real world. This bold mission has literally taken him around the world. From the design of living museums, model governments, and engaging project-based experiences as a Humanities Teacher in world renowned High Tech High in San Diego; to co-founding student-led programs and schools as a Program Director in China; Kyle has remained true to that mission, and vowed to share it with others. His book, The Power of Simple, outlines the simple shifts classrooms and schools can make to allow for these experiences, and the conditions required to ensure they have lasting impact. Kyle currently resides in Hong Kong, where through workshops, coaching, courses and bespoke training, he has now empowered over 1,000 forward thinking educators worldwide to create more socially, globally, and emotionally aware citizens through project-based learning. Show Highlights 12 shifts for student-centered environments. The difference between engagement and empowerment in education. The next step you need to take is to Implementation of inquiry-based learning. Importance of making small changes in the physical classroom setup. Formulate a big question to create an inquiry framework designed by students. Unpack the 3 key factors for motivation. Create magic with a mindset shift to scaffold learning for students with their own interests. Classroom transformations through peer-to-peer teaching. “With inquiry, it's like when you take your dog off the leash for the first time and you haven't trained them to be off the leash, they're going to run off. But if you've gone through that process of like, ‘Okay you're going to walk beside me first.' We're going to make sure that when the traffic comes, you're not going to freak out, then you slowly give them more opportunities where they can really formulate their own inquiries. They know what kind of interests are, they know how to ask deeper questions. And that's something that the teacher can support as a facilitator moving from that front of the classroom role.” -Kyle Wagner Get the episode transcript here! Why is economic planning so vital to any new museum project? What happens if you don't do it? What is “dark tourism”? Why do economists think about audiences? Can a museum have “ROI”? Which is more important, a profitable museum event, or one that advances a museum's mission? What can economics teach us about how to make our projects better?James Stevens, AICP (Vice President, ConsultEcon, Inc.) joins host Jonathan Alger (Managing Partner, C&G Partners) to discuss “An Economic Planner's Advice to Museums”.Along the way: double-edged swords, vocal impersonations, and the Museum of Forks.Talking Points:1. Everyone needs a place to live. 5. Everyone, all the time is thinking about housing. Renting, buying, selling or investing. In other words, you have no excuses. Are you thinking big enough? Let's get into some goal-setting on today's podcast. Refer to our best-selling book, Harris Rules, and Premier Coaching to drill down on your specific goals. Your Real Estate Treasure Map also includes a more in-depth dive into goal setting, so don't wait to get that! A Goal is a Dream with an Action Plan. Goals must be 'SMART': Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely. We'll take a look at some examples in a moment. First, write down the five areas of life to set and achieve goals: Family, Financial, Physical, Mental/Spiritual, Educational. Note: Don't strive for perfect balance in the five areas. Naturally, you'll have big goals in some areas, and micro goals in others. Your goals will be upgraded as you achieve them. Let's take a deep dive into the most obvious one for most people: FINANCIAL. Most agents say: "I want to / need to save more money." As stated, this is simply a dream. To turn it into a goal, let's apply the 'SMART' rules, so it can become a GOAL. Here are the questions to ask yourself (a great coach can help you with this!) (We'll ask the questions and then show you an example plan) 1. Be specific and measurable about your financial goal. How much money? Why that much? What's that amount based on? A reserve fund of 6 months, or a downpayment for your next house? 2. Make your goal attainable. Is that amount possible? How many transactions would it take to get there, based on your average net commission? How does that compare to your averages currently? 3. Make your goal realistic. How realistic is your goal? Is it 2x what you know you can do, or 100x that goal? Should you make your goal more incremental so it's more realistic? 4. Make your goal timely. By when will you accomplish your goal? 5. Formulate your plan. What has to happen for you to achieve the goal? What skills must you obtain or upgrade to be successful? If you're not sure, it's probably time to get some help through Premier Coaching. 6. Write down the plan. Share it with your coach. 7. Create a daily schedule that reflects your goals and the actions necessary to achieve them. That's what we cover in Premier Coaching.

Does everything in your business feel like an emergency? More often than not, there is no real emergency yet we find ourselves operating in this constant crisis mode. Why? When operating in crisis mode for long enough, we develop a sense of comfort and emotional addiction to the chaos. This familiarity can cause us to unintentionally seek out or create crises in our lives and in our business. This week's episode 102 of Female Founders Breaking Boundaries is about breaking free from operating in constant crisis mode. Have you ever felt like you were WAY too busy, stressed out, burnt out, and overwhelmed, so you were advised to delegate some tasks to take things off your plate and free up some time? Except, maybe it didn't work. If getting out of the day-to-day in your business was as simple as hiring more people, then why are you still feeling overwhelmed and burned out? You are not alone! Sometimes, simply delegating tasks doesn't work and instead shifts your workload from “doing” to “managing.”I invite you to use the exercise that our own C-Suite clients use to take the first step in turning your team into a well-oiled, self-managed machine- and get you out of the delegation catch-22. Download the exercise here to get started! In this episode of Female Founders Breaking Boundaries, I'm sharing ways you can combat crisis mode, move from a reactive state to a proactive state, and avoid burnout in the process. Some of the things I cover in this episode are:Celebrating Tricia Timm, a first-generation Latina who rose through the ranks of Silicon Valley advising high-tech companies and being one of the few Latinas to attain the triple achievement of reaching the C-suite, joining the boardroom, and cracking the VC ceiling. The dangers of operating in crisis mode for long periods.Taking a clarity day to take a step back, set aside distractions, and give yourself space. Lean on your leadership team to identify issues and help resolve obstacles in advance.Formulate a plan B so you can feel ready for anything. How to determine if you're being reactive or proactive. What's on my mind: It is so important to celebrate others' achievements because the sum is greater than the parts. If you enjoyed this episode, take a screenshot of the episode to share and tag me! AI is being leveraged by the beauty sector to help increase productivity, reduce costs, automate task and improve decision-making. In last week's guest episode, Lorraine heard how AI was impacting the beauty industry and what can be expected of this powerful technology in the future. Taking a cue from her interviewee, Lorraine decided to take up the challenge of seeing how capable one commonly-used AI tool – tech darling ChatGPT – is of formulation. Could it help, for example, formulate a solid facial serum bar with vitamin C? In this opinion episode Lorraine walks us through her experiment with ChatGPT, which went through a number of stages before ending with a stunning conclusion. Listen in to find out if AI is able to formulate skincare successfully despite lacking that essential ingredient - “human-ness” - the Formula Botanica and indie beauty community bring to the equation. To learn more about this episode, all of the links that were mentioned and anything else, please visit the show notes on the Formula Botanica website.
Do you need help improving your law firm's client journey? Are you finding it hard to get clients? In this episode, Matt Spiegel, the co-founder and CEO of Lawmatics, discusses the importance of providing excellent customer service in the legal industry and improving the client journey. It is evident that lawyers are not CEOs. They don't run businesses. But, Matt emphasizes the need for law firm owners to run their practice like a business. Law firm owners need to go out and find clients to grow their firm just like a CEO would go out and make connections to grow their success. Part of growing your business and law firm ensures the client is always happy because a happy client equals a happy practice. Matt delves into the ways to prioritize the happiness of a client.1 | Client Begins The client journey begins the moment a client reaches out to your firm via email or phone. This is part of the “client intake phase”. This phase is crucial to getting a client because they are reaching out to multiple firms at once. You need to ensure staff are engaging right away so they don't lose the client. Immediate engagement shows the client exactly how you will respond to them throughout the process. It shows that those in the firm care and are ready to provide the client with what they need, even if it's just basic legal information.2 | Active ClientThe “active matter phase” is the communication throughout the length of a client's case. Like phase one, communication is key to getting and retaining a client. It is important to provide the client information throughout the journey. Make it a habit to market to them. Send them information like newsletters that include things that are external to your firm. It is a good idea to set up a client portal, where individuals can go into a system and get updates on their case. If email communication is too much (and it can be in this industry), a client portal is a great way to input all necessary information and the client can retrieve it on the other end. 3 | Former Client The “former client phase” is a neglected but important phase in the client journey. 75% of clients come from referrals. Even when a client's case is complete, the relationship between the attorney and client needs to continue. There are many ways to maintain a good relationship with a former client. Send a birthday and holiday email every year or add them to a mailing list for networking events. What this does is let the client know the firm has their best interests in mind even after the working relationship ends.Matt speaks about only doing things in your law firm that you can measure. You need to be able to back up your success with KPIs and numbers. Think about the conversion rates of initial screening calls that lead to actual clients. This will measure how successful the intake process is for your firm. Cost per lead and cost per client is another metric to consider to ensure the amount it takes to bring a client on board and how much you are making from that client makes sense.Take a listen!6:57 Immediate engagement and rapid response to create a positive first impression8:45 Focusing on maintaining the relationship with a former client8:58 Providing excellent customer service from the very first contact with a client9:53 Delighting clients through effective communication during the active matter phase17:29 The importance of automation
