This week, I sit down with Center for Metal Arts Executive Director, Patrick Quinn, to talk about his mission in helping preserve the rich steel history in Johnstown, Pa through research and education. As a blacksmith, Pat feels he has a duty to help keep the trade alive. His goal with Center for Metal Arts is to bring new faces into the world and further educate the ones who already have a strong foundation with forging metal. Starting out as a traditional artist with a focus in drawing, Pat found his way in front of a Power Hammer just by chance and now he spends his days educating the others on the fundamentals on manipulating hot steel with the swing of a hammer. Center for Metal Arts is a 501c3 that offers beginner through advanced forging workshops in their state-of-the-art facilities and this week, Pat stops by to tell me all about CMA, his passion for art and blacksmithing, and more. A Johnstown-based mining company has gotten the go-ahead to expand an underground coal mine in Westmoreland County. LCT Energy operates the 2800-acre Rustic Ridge “Number One” coal mine in Donegal, just south of the Pennsylvania Turnpike exit there. Dauphin County officials admit a 911 dispatcher did not appropriately escalate a call in accordance with county policy, early Sunday morning, April 13th, an hour after an arson attack on the Governor's Residence. Campgrounds, boat ramps, welcome centers and other recreational facilities run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in six states are being closed or seeing hours reduced due to funding cuts by the Trump administration. The cuts include Blue Marsh Lake located near Reading, in Berks County. Mike Sullivan’s nearly decade-long tenure running the Pittsburgh Penguins is over. The team announced Monday that it was parting ways with the two-time Stanley Cup winning coach just over a week after the Penguins missed out on the playoffs for a third straight season. And the Hershey Bears open their Calder Cup playoff run this week. Game one is Wednesday night in Hershey, versus the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in an Atlantic Division best-of-five semifinal series. Hershey is seeking its 14th AHL championship overall. Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The City of Johnstown has very rich immigrant and industrial history. Shelley Johansson, Director of Marketing and Communications of the Heritage Discovery Center says the building was built in 1903. “It was built as a brewery in 1903. Of course, we all know what happened to breweries very quickly after that. Prohibition came along, and they were not breweries, and basically it became several other things until my organization bought it. The first phase of the exhibit opened with America through immigrant eyes. If early industrial America is your story, and it is, it's an amazing building to have. It tells a story of what it was like to be an immigrant coming to this area around the turn of the last century. It's kind of a national story told in a local context, because that is the period of great immigration from Europe.” The first-floor exhibit of the Frank & Sylvia Pasquerilla Heritage Discovery Center, America: Through Immigrant Eyes, tells a national story in local context. “The exhibition focuses on telling the story. When you come to the exhibit, you get to choose one of eight immigrant cards that has a different nationality, an age, and a gender. This is a young Polish boy. This is an innate. At different points in the exhibit, you plug the card into the exhibit, and the exhibit talks to you as though you were that character. It kind of puts you in an experiential position to learn what happened. The other thing about this building that I failed to mention, it is located in Cambria City, which was Johnstown's most important immigrant neighborhood during this period. This is where these people, who were largely from southern and eastern Europe at that time, were settling and they didn't have a whole lot of choice in the matter. I mean, one of the themes in the exhibit is about the prejudice that people encountered when they got here.” Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A look at the highs and lows of adaptations, plus interviews with Chuck Wilts from UNA Productions and Oskar Eustis from New York's Public Theatre   In this week's episode of the OnStage Colorado Podcast, hosts Alex Miller and Toni Tresca run down what's on stage around the state now and coming up in the next few weeks. Our main topic this week is adaptations — screen to stage or stage to screen. After seeing the production of Back to the Future: The Musical at the Denver Center recently, we were inspired to look back on adapations that worked and some … not so much.   Later in the episode, Alex has two separate interviews related to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Cabaret Club series. The first is with drag performer and choreographer Chuck Wilts, who will appear at the ENT Center over Valentine's Day Weekend in a production called Infinity. Providence, Rhode Island, is the capital and the largest city in the state, known for its rich history, vibrant arts scene, and unique mix of old-world charm and modern urban development. As one of the oldest cities in the United States, founded in 1636, Providence was a refuge for those seeking religious freedom, which has laid the foundation for the city's commitment to diversity and tolerance. The city is also home to some of the most prestigious universities in the United States, including Brown University, an Ivy League school, and the Rhode Island School of Design. With so many college students, you would expect Providence to also have a thriving nightlife, which can be found downtown where a variety of bars, clubs, and live music venues wait to welcome students who want to socialize and let loose in the evenings and on weekends. For such a large and busy city, you would also expect that Providence has its share of crime, and while the city does have some issues with violent crime, property crimes such as burglary and motor vehicle theft are far more common. But what happens when a basic carjacking turns violent for seemingly no reason whatsoever? In June of 2000, 20-year-old Jason Burgeson and 21-year-old Amy Shute found themselves in the crosshairs of five nefarious men who were prowling the streets of Providence, looking to get into trouble. Jason and Amy were spotted by a Providence police officer around 2:15 AM on June 9th; the couple was chatting in the parking lot of Tommy's Bar and Grille in downtown Providence. Less than 12 hours later, their bodies were found slumped against hay bales at the Button Hole Golf course, located on the border of Providence and Johnstown, Rhode Island. They had been murdered in cold blood, and it was up to the investigators to figure out what had happened to them and why. Full Episode- 09/13/2024:(09/13/2024) The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: 3:05pm- Earlier this week, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris squared off in their first presidential debate. According to most objective observers, moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis routinely favored Harris by not only providing her with softball questions, but repeatedly fact-checking Trump in real-time while refusing to do the same to Harris. 3:15pm- During a Friday press conference outside of Los Angeles, California, Donald Trump attacked the Biden-Harris Administration for its failure to secure the U.S. Southern border—noting that under the administration's watch 325,000 undocumented migrant children have gone missing as a consequence. Trump also quoted Department of Justice statistics showing that violent crime nationwide has gone up since 2020. Notably, during Tuesday's debate, moderator David Muir inaccurately fact-checked Trump and claimed that violent crime had not risen during the Biden-Harris Administration. 3:30pm- Will the economy, and fracking specifically, be the deciding factor for undecided voters in Pennsylvania? Rich notes that NPR is attempting to downplay the significance of Kamala Harris's objection to pro-energy policies. 3:40pm- While campaigning in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Kamala Harris went off script (only momentarily) to tell reporters that she's feeling very confident she'll win the state. 3:45pm- During a recent CNN segment, former Obama Administration Official Van Jones conceded that the Democrat Party—including Kamala Harris—adopted “all kinds of ideas that turned out to be bad ideas” in 2020. 4:05pm- In his latest investigative report posted to social media, John Strossel documents Kamala Harris's history of endorsing reckless spending policies—noting that she has already proposed $2 Trillion in new spending if she wins in November. In the past, she has even called for health care being entirely controlled by the federal government with the complete abolition of private health insurance. 4:15pm- Vinny—the owner of Angelo's Pizzeria South Philly—tells The Rich Zeoli Show that he's endorsing Donald Trump for president. He also weighs-in on the most controversial topic facing America: does pineapple belong on pizza? Angelo's is widely regarded as making the best pizza (and cheesesteaks) in the entire city. 4:20pm- Matt gets yelled at for eating “Trump 2024” cookies instead of paying attention to the show. 4:30pm- Dr. Victoria Coates—Former Deputy National Security Advisor & the Vice President of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss China's long-term ambition to end American energy dominance. Would Kamala Harris's opposition to domestic energy production help China achieve its goal? Dr. Coates also recaps Tuesday night's presidential debate and points out that Donald Trump was correct when he said Russia invaded Ukraine because the Biden-Harris Administration failed to deter aggression. Dr. Coates's upcoming book is: “Winning the War on Israel: Inside the Battle for the Jewish State and America.” 5:00pm- Major PA Supreme Court Decision: Steve Ulrich of Politics PA writes: “By a 4-3 vote, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court vacated a decision by the state's Commonwealth Court, finding it unconstitutional for undated mail ballots to be counted. Justices Kevin Dougherty, Sallie Updyke Mundy, Kevin Brobson and Daniel McCaffery wrote that ‘the Commonwealth Court lacked subject matter jurisdiction to review the matter given the failure to name the county boards of elections of all 67 counties,' and because the joinder of Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt ‘did not suffice to invoke the Commonwealth Court's original jurisdiction.'” You can read the full article here: https://www.politicspa.com/pa-supreme-court-overturns-commonwealth-court-decision-on-dating-mail-ballots/139187/ 5:15pm- Pollster and former Clinton poli ...
