It's a fight to the finish this week, as Cooper and Nolan attempt to survive the GAME OF DEATH! What do you get when you take 11 minutes of Bruce Lee footage and try to stretch it into a full-length movie?  A whole lot of smoke, mirrors, and laughable editing, not to mention the definitive example of Brucesploitation. At least the guys have a great beer connection from Rouge River Brewing Company, but will that (along with an unforgettable fight scene involving Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) be enough to make up for the many MANY unforgivable parts of this movie? This week the guys talk martial arts, with the look forward in a post-Shang Chi MCU and backward at a post-Enter the Dragon film genre. Surrounding the film commentary are discussions on the immediate aftermath of Bruce Lee's passing, successors to his throne, “Brucesploitation”, Asian stars, and how things might've been different had Lee lived.

Bruce Lee single handedly made the kung fu movie an international phenomenon, so it's understandable that the world was rocked by his untimely death. The international film market also found themselves in a conundrum, because where could they go from there? Do they move on and try to find the next big name in kung fu pictures? Fuck no! Film producers just started hiring a bunch of martial artists and stuntmen that looked similar to Bruce and attempted to get them to adopt his mannerisms and style hoping film audiences wouldn't notice. That iconic yellow jumpsuit that The Bride wears in KILL BILL VOL. 1 was iconic years before Uma Thurman ever put it on. It was worn by the legendary Bruce Lee in what was to be his fifth film. GAME OF DEATH was set to be Bruce Lee's magnum opus, a film that defined his martial arts philosophies, and proved the superiority of his own school of martial arts, Jeet Kune Do. Unfortunately, Lee passed away having only completed a few minutes of footage. But that didn't stop greedy producers from cashing in on the now-world famous Lee, reediting the footage into a new film, and using stand-ins for Lee in the majority of the film. In this episode, we'll discuss Lee's life career leading up to GAME OF DEATH, and the Brucesploitation films that came about in the wake of his death, as well as the ultimately Brucesploitation film that would eventually be released by his own studio, five years after his passing.
