Culber. One of the highlights of the first season of Star Trek: Discovery was the show's kind and compassionate doctor, Hugh Culber. We see these aspects of his character repeatedly as he tends to his shipmates. When Commander Landry suffers severe injuries in “The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry,” he still fights to save her. He also cares for his partner, Paul Stamets, on multiple occasions, pulling him through seemingly impossible odds, and he accurately diagnoses Ash Tyler's Klingon augmentation. The latter leads to his death, but his compassion and professionalism shown through to the very end—and beyond. In this episode of The Edge, host Amy Nelson is joined by Hayley Stoddart of Standard Orbit to discuss Hugh Culber's role aboard the USS Discovery, his relationship with Paul Stamets, and whether it will continue into season two despite his death in “Despite Yourself.” We also explore his possible existence within the mycelium network and ponder whether there is life after death. Historical Connections. A notable aspect of Star Trek is how it connects to history, philosophy, and literature. The use of these elements provides the viewer with a familiar context in which the writers can explore new ideas. In this episode of The Edge, host Mike Schindler is joined by Duncan Barrett of Primitive Culture to discuss historical connections found in Star Trek: Discovery. We discuss parallels between T'Kuvma's actions and those of Hitler in World War II, Moby-Dick, hidden memories, why Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There may be important to the mirror-universe plot, and much more! The Tardigrade. Creating a new way to fly isn't easy, and some people wouldn't know the answer if it was staring them in the face … or chasing them down the hall. But Burnham would, and when she makes nice with the creature Landry named Ripper, spore drive to a huge leap forward. In this episode of Notes from The Edge, in which we deep-dive into connections between Star Trek: Discovery and the broader Star Trek universe, host C Bryan Jones shares his thoughts on “The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry”—including Landry's very bad decision-making and the use of Klingon language—and explores the real-life animal that is helping Discovery avoid crashing into stars. Podcast zu Star Trek: Discovery, Episode 1.04 „The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry – Wieviele Kröten kann man schlucken? Lorca wants a weapon, but he gets something much better -- a working spore drive. Burnham sciences the crap out of this one. Join us as we review the latest episode of Star Trek Discovery, “The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry”. No humans were eaten in the making of this podcast.
The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry. A mining colony on Corvan II is under attack by Klingons. The Federation has sent Discovery to their aid, but the only way to arrive in time to save the colonists is to use the new spore drive. But what cost is Captain Lorca willing to pay for their rescue? Do the ends justify the means? According to Lorca, they do. He is willing to do anything and sacrifice anyone to win the war against the Klingon Empire—no matter how loud the lamb's cry. In this episode of The Edge, hosts Amy Nelson and Aaron Harvey welcome Davis Grayson to discuss the fourth episode of Star Trek: Discovery. We explore Lorca's character development, look at the interactions between Michael Burnham and the crew, and discuss the Klingon goal of unification. We also answer the question of whether Gene Roddenberry's vision of a better and more hopeful future is present in this new iteration of Star Trek. But first, in our news segment, Mike Schindler and Max Hegel share their thoughts on After Trek.
