Candlelight Red are a four-piece modern rock band from Williamsport, PA with two full-length albums and one EP to their credit. For this week’s episode of Up Front And On Fire, I’ve decided to concentrate on their most recent release, Reclamation, released in 2013 on the Imagen label. (The band is still active, having toured with a renewed vigor in 2016, and are planning new material in 2017, per a New Years Day post on their Facebook page.) The quartet of vocalist Ryan Hoke, guitarist/vocalist Jeremy Edge, bassist/vocalist Jamie Morrat, and drummer Brian Dugan hits all the right touchstones for 21st Century mainstream modern rock – a vocalist that alternates between clean melodies and grimy screams with ease, downtuned guitar work that features tight crunchy rhythms and fluid leads, and drums that do their job of keeping the beat and knowing just the right places to bust out the right kind of fill. The production on Reclamation is also listener friendly, enhancing the band’s main sound with ambient and unobtrusive keyboards, leaving Dugan’s drums dry and compressed for a truly heavy sound (rather than the excessive cement room echo sound from certain 80’s metal records), and occasionally throwing in a shade of reverb on Hoke’s vocals for emphasis. If this band doesn’t find themselves at a higher level in their career before 2017 ends, there’s something wrong. “I have no plan b on backing down on my dreams.”Frank Palangi lives by that saying with his career and it shines through his work. He fuels his own feeding frenzy of modern rock with a solid sound like any 1970's muscle car (that he hopes to own someday). His old school sense is a key part of his personally and way of life. At the core, he is a singer/songwriter with a gritty bass rock voice pouring his heart and soul into lyrics based on life experiences and subject matter. Portraying a positive image to his fans, it's fresh to see an artist who respects himself. It's exciting to see he's not afraid to take chances and living outside the box. From being a multi-instrumentalist and constantly writing and creating, his creativity, drive and passion to acheive his dreams is always growing. With a discography ranging from 4 demo records in Frank's teen years to his current independent EP records (Frank Palangi EP, I Am Ready EP) and new singles that include “Hope”, "Falling too", Palangi fans know they can look forward to new material being developed. What could be the next step for Palangi???"It has been a blessing. My music has a special connection with the fans who love it most. I've been told it's helped them through hard times in their lives and that I have been a positive inspiration to them. I believe there are tough challenges in our of lives that we must face and being able for my music to have that effect, it's all I could ask for out of it. The personal interaction with fans is so important to me, so I enjoy the stories I hear. Growing up, I dealt with childhood medical issues and learning to adapt and overcome challenges that somehow let me reroute illness into a strength and gave me the passion, determination and will not give up. ” Frank says.Palangi continues to create new buzz with a growing fan base sharing the stages across the North East U.S with regional and national acts from 3 Doors Down, Aaron Lewis (Staind), FUEL, TRAPT, Powerman 5000, Candlelight Red, Young Guns, HURT, HEDPE to Prospect Hill, Veer Union, Bad Axis, Jess Malin (Former D-Generation singer), Sirsy, Deluka, Silversyde, IM5, Weaving the Fate and including festivals like the UPROAR winning the 2013 Ernie Ball Saratoga, NY opening for Alice in Chains/Jane's Addiction. Some dishes are best served RAW and there’s nothing closer to raw than rock bands. The power, the message and the music has been delivering that message for a long time. With all of the changes and styles in today’s music, it’s good to see that the message that has always been the backbone of rock music is not lost on a younger generation of musicians. Being outspoken, loud, blunt and unforgiving is in the very essence of what makes up some of the best rock bands of all time and it is what gets the message across. Familiar Sin from the Orlando, Florida area is one of those bands. Not only do they play the music, but they live the life. Founded in 2009 the band has spread their own brand of whisky and women fueled original rock music around the nation. I had a chance to catch up with them a few weeks back for a candid, if not “revealing”, interview with the band. In our time together they paint a real picture of life on the road as a rock band bringing the party and all the debauchery that comes with it. They also share 4 of their songs with us to serve as the anthem living life on your own terms and to remind us that being a little bad can feel so good. Well, the Central Florida based four-piece Familiar Sin is always the first to bring both. Summer 2009 is when the Sin began and they haven’t looked back since. “The reason we started Familiar Sin is so we can Use Our Demons and Make Them Work for us”, says the front man CJ Orazi. Fueled by honey flavored whiskey, greasy rock and dirty women, they bring the party with them wherever they go, leaving a tattoo of their testimony. Familiar Sin IS getting down to the business of Jamming and Preaching the Gospel of celebrating good old fashioned “Sinning”. This band lives its name and plays from experience. Managed by Mind’s i Entertainment, look for big things in the future from Familiar Sin. And ask yourself, “Am I a Sinner”? See you at the next show.... Familiar Sin.
Thank for joining us on Episode# 19 of The Tour Bus Music Show. Rocking the world from Southern Louisiana. On this episode we’ll talk with Jeremy Edge, the lead guitarist, of Williamsport, PA’s Candlelight Red. This band has been hitting the radio airwaves and the internet music scene with the impact of a Juggernaut. Having hit the ground running Candlelight Red beat out over 10,000 bands to win Guitar Centers On-Stage Competition. In which they won a $10,000 shopping spree and Guitar Center along with being hand picked by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons to win the coveted spot of opening for one of the ultimate rock legends, KISS in 2010. Since then their momentum has only increased with them continuing to share the stage with some of today’s best rock groups such as Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, Staind, Lacuna Coil and Three Days Grace. The bands’ lead axe slinger Jeremy Edge takes a few minutes out of their busy touring schedule with Saving Abel to talk with T. Mic about the history of the group as well as what is currently going on now and the near future for the band. CANDLELIGHT RED IS: RYAN HOKE - LEAD VOCALS JEREMY EDGE - GUITAR/BACKING VOCALS JAMIE MORRAL - BASS GUITAR/BACKING VOCALS JOSH HETRICK - DRUMS With the group’s permission we’ll also feature four songs from their soon to be released album, The Wreckage on Imagen Records and talk about the story behind several of the songs off of the album. Mic’s opinion there is not a track on the album that doesn’t ROCK! We’ll be featuring their hot single “Closer” as well as the groovin’ rocker “In Your Hands”. The guys also cover a cool version of Roxette’s “She’s Got the Look” and we wrap up the show with the driving song Gone Forever.
