Feeling stuck planning projects across subjects? It's more common than you think. Without the right structures, interdisciplinary projects often feel messy, disconnected, and overwhelming — for both teachers and students. But what if a few small shifts could lead to more engaged students, stronger collaboration across subjects, and less stress for you? In this episode, I sat down with Ryan Murfield, Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary PRAXIS Program at the International School of Kuala Lumpur, to unpack three simple shifts that make interdisciplinary planning work: Focus planning around real-world problems that drive deeper engagement Build milestone checkpoints that keep interdisciplinary teams aligned Design assessments that capture real learning across subjects—without adding more work If you're ready to plan across subjects with more clarity, connection, and confidence, this conversation is for you. Is the journal publishing process and the “game” around journal publishing forcing us to give up on big ideas and instead work on small ideas about trivial matters? We are not so sure. We think that science needs many different types of academics, and they have all sorts of different ideas, big and small, and we need outlets for expressing every single one of them. But outlets, like ideas, are not all equal. Journals are an incremental genre leaning toward rigor and thus risk type-2 errors. Book are an expansive genre learning towards big ideas – and thus risk type-1 errors. So the question is rather what type of scholar you are and whether you can handle the very different processes and mechanisms – those associated with big ideas that take a long time to develop, versus the production of smaller ideas and insights that incrementally push our knowledge forward. For several months now, The Fed has decided to leave interest rates unchanged. For the most part, this isn't great news for borrowers, but as Peter Richon with Richon Planning explains to Erin Kennedy, it may offer some unique opportunities for savers. High interest rates offer unique opportunities when investing in high-yield bonds or money market accounts. You may also want to consider an annuity, which can provide a stable stream of income especially during periods of high-interest rates. If you'd like to talk to Peter about turning these high interest rates into opportunities, please feel free to give him a call at (919) 300 - 5886 or visit www.RichonPlanning.com #WealthManagement #InterestRates #GoodDebtBadDebt #FinancialAdvisor

Are low-maintenance friendships all they're made out to be?So many of us are trying to live in this impossible zone of wanting friendship to be little effort but not neglectful. The effort of staying in this bubble can make maintaining a friendship more difficult, and it also denies many of our inherent needs.Today I'm going to talk about why this mainstream current definition of “low maintenance” friendship is not serving us. How can we think about low maintenance friendship differently and make it work for us?Friendship should be a reprieve, not a burden; let's make it easier on ourselves by focusing on consistent, simple connections. Think breadcrumbs, not bread loaves. In this episode you'll hear about:The language we use about “low-maintenance” friendship and the fine line that defines them – you want “low attention” but can't be neglectfulHow so much of low-maintenance friendships is denying that we matter, that we want to be seen, that we have needsThe amount of energy we spend staying in the exact right zone of a low maintenance friendship – which in the end isn't very low maintenance! The importance of having conversations about how we each are able to show up in friendshipsHow to leave “breadcrumbs” instead of bread loaves through scheduling hacks, reoccurring meet-ups/texts/calls, voice messages, etc.Resources & Links:Like what you hear? Well, there's a place for everyone, and today I'm bringing this to light in this episode. Be warned. My truth bomb girl in gonna come out today, so tune in if you want to see me get feisty.

Why do so many self-described perfectionists, bright, ambitious and hardworking women, feel like something is wrong with them? Why are women taught that perfectionism is a flaw to be managed? Why are perfectionists so hard on themselves? And how can ambitious achievers, striving towards the ideal, find peace and self-compassion while continuing to embrace their perfectionism? I wanted to dive into all these questions with my guest today, Katherine Morgan Schafler, because I both identify as a perfectionist and work with a lot of perfectionists: high-achieving, successful women who use alcohol as a way to disconnect from the anxiety and overwhelm of their lives. Katherine's a psychotherapist, speaker, author of The Perfectionist's Guide to Losing Control and former on-site therapist at Google who has worked with legions of self-described perfectionists. In this episode, we dive into all things women and perfectionism. DarkHorseSchooling.com/podcast This episode is about how to use affirmations to help achieve success in the business world. The host, Tracy Brinkmann, is an experienced entrepreneur and coach who started the Dark Horse Entrepreneur Podcast to help entrepreneurs, coaches, and course creators battle technology overwhelmed procrastination and imposter syndrome. Tracy believes that driven entrepreneurs and those looking to start, restart, or Kickstart their business need to level up their marketing skills and take action in order to build their business into the empire it deserves to be. However, Tracy acknowledges that along the way, entrepreneurs will hit walls and will have to decide how to proceed in order to get past the obstacle. Tracy concludes by offering three secret steps plus a bonus secret to make affirmations into declarations of achievement. Tracy is giving three tips and one secret to make affirmations work effectively. The tips are to state the affirmations in the present tense, to believe in what you are saying, and to make them personal and specific. The secret is a tool for those who are uncomfortable reading the affirmations out loud which works every time. Affirmations are positive statements that focus on what you want to achieve and feel in your life and by stating them in the present tense and believing in them, they can help align your body and mind with the desired outcomes. Affirmations can be a powerful tool to create positive change in your life, but they are not a substitute for action. To make affirmations work effectively, you need to focus on three things. First, make sure the affirmation is stated in the present tense. Second, believe in the truth of the affirmation. Third, take action towards the goal. To reinforce the power of your affirmations, repeat them often and focus on the positive feelings they evoke. Taking action is key to making affirmations work as it brings them to life. Affirmations are a great tool for helping us manifest our desired outcomes, but it is important to craft them in the present tense. This is because our subconscious mind operates in the now, and is more receptive to suggestions that are framed in the present. Affirmations should be stated as if the desired outcome has already happened or is currently happening, for example, instead of saying I will be successful say I am successful. It is also important to believe in the affirmation and its possibility, as this will send a signal to your subconscious mind that it is something that is important to you and that you are committed to making it happen. TIMESTAMPS 0:00:00 "Unlock the Secret to Making Affirmations Work: 3 Steps Plus a Bonus Secret" 0:02:37 "Using Affirmations to Achieve Your Goals" 0:04:59 Using Affirmations to Create Positive Change in Your Life 0:06:30 "The Power of Present Tense Affirmations: How to Make Them Work Effectively" 0:11:42 "The Power of Affirmations and Visualization: Strengthening Your Beliefs" 0:13:11 "The Power of Affirmations: How to Make Them Work for You" 0:18:08 Heading: Making Affirmations Work Effectively for Business Success 0:20:10 Conversation on the Power of Affirmations for Entrepreneurs 0:22:20 "Using Affirmations to Achieve Your Goals: A Step-by-Step Guide" 0:26:05 Episode Summary: Affirmations and Subscriber Ratings HIGHLIGHTS So his coach and his infinite wisdom patiently explained the three steps I just explained to you to making affirmations work effectively, stating, affirmations need to be in the president. You got to believe in what you're saying. You got to take some action. And then the entrepreneur getting this information from his coach was excited to put these steps into practice and boost their chances of success in business.. But as the discussion continued, the entrepreneur couldn't help but think of their business goals. They're like, wait a minute. I can use affirmations to make my business successful. Of course you can, the coach replied. You can create affirmations that focus on specific business goals, like increasing sales, increasing customer loyalty, and expanding your customer base. This isn't always about right how fat you are, how tall you are, how confident you are. So by staying open and flexible, you can take advantage of these opportunities and bring your affirmations to life, right? It's like a it's like J. R. Tolkien when he put pen in the paper and he brought all those characters in The Hobbit to life, not just up on the silver screen that we see nowadays, but if you've ever read the book, right? Those were his affirmations. He brought them to life. So what I'm saying, in summary, is that taking action is a critical component to making affirmations work effectively. These actions help to reinforce the belief and the truth of your affirmation that you are healthy and fit. And it makes it far more likely that you will see the results that you're looking for. Now, it's also important that you stay open to the opportunities that will arise. Because now your brain is saying, okay, this is important to you. You're paying attention to it, and you're taking action to it. So opportunities that are going to arise as you work toward your goals, sometimes the universe and its infinite intelligence will present you with an unexpected opportunity that can help you to achieve your desires far more quickly, way easier than you ever thought possible. Now, taking action doesn't necessarily mean taking those giant leaps towards your goals. It could even mean making those small daily changes, little tweaks to your daily routine that align the direction you're taking and the actions you're taking every single day to your desired outcome. Or it could help you in taking consistent steps towards your goal every single day. The important thing is to be proactive in moving towards your desired outcome.. Now, of course, you need to know what that desired outcome is, and I spent quite a bit of time talking about that. Oh, gosh way back in episode 176, the IChart Method of Goal Setting. And then episode 398, the I Chart Method for goal Setting and achievement. So I give it to you twice, a little differently each time. So go back and check those out. I don't want to belabor that particular topic again and make this episode an hour and a half long, but you get my point. When you believe in your affirmation, you're sending that signal back up to your subconscious mind. That amazing tool between your ears that this is something that is important to you and that you're not only committed to making it happen, but you desire to make it happen. As a result, your subconscious mind is going to work to align your thoughts, your beliefs, and your behaviors. Let me say that again.. Your thoughts, your beliefs, and your behaviors with the affirmation making it more likely to come into your life. You're going to start seeing things that you probably hadn't paid attention to before. You're going to start believing things that maybe you doubted before, and you're going to start doing things maybe you hadn't done. On the other hand, if you don't believe in the truth of the affirmation, it's this to be honest, this is not. Your subconscious mind is going to be less likely to even respond to it. And maybe that's why you're still listening to this about twelve minutes in.
I have been doing vision boards for probably the last 10 years, and they are constantly morphing. I've tried so many different formats and I've learned that even if you make a beautiful composition of your goals and dreams for the next year, UNLESS YOU APPLY THE SCIENCE behind the mind and body, It is like having a car with only a 1/4 tank of gas. Sure, you can get to some places, but imagine the momentum you could have if you had a full turbo tank of gas that never runs out! I have certainly learned what the vision board killers are or those things we do or don't do to utilize them in a way that they were originally created. We're showing 3-4 different ways you can vision boards along with the science of the brain that you need to engage and optimize those dreams and goals that are now place in a visual. Vision Boards are not a mystic wish board. When you learn the science behind it and then apply your action, you will be amazed at the traction that can happen in your life.
Simply Worth It: Physician Negotiations with Dr. Linda Street
In any negotiation, fairness is usually a front-of-mind concept - in fact, it's often the measure with which we judge the success of the entire process. But here's the challenge, fairness isn't as simple as a singular yardstick. It's actually made up of multiple facets that sometimes conflict with each other. With that in mind, how do we take fairness to the negotiating table and make sure we're ticking the boxes that matter? In this episode, I share how to approach the concept of fairness so that you walk into the negotiation with a tangible way to achieve it. Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode - How to determine what a fair offer looks like for you How do you move forward when fairness has multiple norms that often conflict with one another? - The interplay between equality and equity Is it possible to get something that's equal to everyone else while also taking previous barriers into account? - How to make fairness a priority for your employer Can we have fairness when the other side wants to maintain the status quo?

For a long time I thought it was crazy how many women asked me to talk about this topic. But now, I realize the reason is obvious: In 2022, more of us are doing long-distance relationships than ever. You meet a great guy on Instagram who doesn't live in the same country... You start dating the perfect man in your city, only to find out he's been offered a new job 1000 miles away… And suddenly, you find yourself having “Skype dates”, and you now spend half your work day sending silly photos to each other on Whatsapp. You feel like you're falling in love with this guy – but can it actually work long term?? Should you follow your heart and go for it, or should you listen to your head and call it quits? What's the answer? These are big questions, so I decided this it was time to be super honest about long-distance and my thoughts on it. --- Here's what you really need to know... ►► FREE download: “9 Texts to Get Any Man” → http://www.9texts.com ►► FREE download: “5 Compliments to Get Him Addicted to You” → http://www.SayThisToHim.com

Cody & Spencer talk about Expedia. Expedia and other online travel agencies can be a great way to reach new customers and grow your hotel business. However, some hoteliers view Expedia as the "evil empire" because of the high commissions they charge. But is Expedia really that bad? Let's take a look at the pros and cons of using Expedia for your boutique hotel. On the plus side, Expedia brings in a lot of business. They are one of the largest online travel agencies in the world and have a huge customer base. This means that you can reach a lot more people by listing your hotel on Expedia than you would if you just relied on your own website.Expedia also has a lot of clout with airlines and other hotel chains. This can be helpful when it comes to negotiating rates and getting discounts on travel. On the downside, Expedia does charge high commissions - up to 25% in some cases. This can take a big chunk out of your profits. And because Expedia is such a large company, they have a lot of negotiating power when it comes to rates. This means that you may not be able to get the best deal for your hotel if you list it on Expedia. So, what's the verdict? Is Expedia evil? Maybe not. But should you use them for your boutique hotel? That's a decision that only you can make. Consider the pros and cons carefully before you decide.
Deep Relaxation, Guided Imagery, and Self-Healing: How to Make Them Work for You Healing is the process by which we become more whole, more complete, better functioning at all levels. We recognize physical healing when bleeding stops, a wound closes, or pain goes away. But true healing includes wholeness at the mental, emotional, and behavioral level as well . . . and also at the social level. Emotional signs that healing is needed are anxiety, fear, frustration, anger, resentment, and so forth. And most of us have too many negative feelings, even though we usually hide them from ourselves. But this works only temporarily and in time the internal stress from carrying them around in this hidden form tends to produce physical disease. Soon we see headaches, high blood pressure, cancer, allergies, infections, and so forth. And when we get sick from something else, such as flu or COVID our healing is slowed down or completely blocked. Untreated emotional stress is also at the basis of our bad habits, addictions (alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, etc.), poor decisions, and failure. And all types of stress lead to the shortening of telomeres and shorten your life. In this presentation, you will learn scientifically, why this all happens, and you will learn, experientially, how you can use deep relaxation, Self-awareness, guided imagery, and mental image rehearsal to go beyond symptomatic relief to Deep Healing. You will be introduced to your subconscious mind and learn how to work in harmony with it, and get it to support your true goals in life. “My 50 years of experience as a physician studying the holistic approach to medicine and healing, have convinced me that our medical system is not focused on healing our bodies, minds, emotions, and behaviors. Instead, its primary focus is to charge the highest possible prices for delivering symptomatic relief. (Note: I am speaking of the system, not the doctors). Its goal is to treat the symptoms of our illnesses, not the source of our illnesses.” ― Emmett Miller, MD Find Dr. Miller here: www.drmiller.com

Platforms are eating the world! While not every business is becoming a platform business in the strictest sense, every company needs to re-examine its business model and consider adopting platform elements if they are to survive in the new ecosystem oriented economy.Geoff Parker is a professor of engineering at Dartmouth College, as well as a visiting scholar and research fellow at MIT. He is also the coauthor of “Platform Revolution: How Networked Markets Are Transforming the Economy and How to Make Them Work for You.”Greg and Geoff cover thinking of companies as pipelines, the case of McCormick Spices, pitfalls companies make when trying to launch platforms, and governance issues. Episode Quotes:Platform governance issues:Geoff: So the way that I think about platform governance is, do they have rules essentially to ensure fair treatment of users?Greg: This is like, it's almost like due process. Geoff: Exactly Is there due process and do they have the ability to actually credibly deliver that? So if you have a dispute, is there a resolution mechanism? If they said they're going to charge 10% or whatever, did they or did they charge 50%? If they said they weren't going to basically replicate your technology and, sort of destroying your particular app or business, did they adhere to that in a credible way?How do you retroactively take something that was built in a more appliance like format converted into a modular system?:Some things actually just need to do a single thing and do it really well. And then other things can be built in this more modular format. So I think it's being intentional about where you need to be delivering basic electricity and just do it at scale, basic compute, do it at scale. Versus, okay, now I've got to have this mix and match or usability, and that's where I'm going to invest in making that possible. What are some pitfalls people make when trying to launch platforms: The ones that I think are really deadly are where they try to capture value before they create it for users. That's a cautionary tale, I think, especially for incumbents who are pipeline firms. Then they analyze, they dream up some total addressable market and they get starry-eyed and get all excited about that. How do you first brainstorm a platform idea for an existing company:So, essentially I think the way to think about it is how do I find different sources of value that my users, and the users can be on the supply side or on the demand side, can take advantage of that will make it stickier.Show Links:Guest Profile:Faculty Profile at Dartmouth College Geoff Parker's WebsiteGeoff Parker on LinkedinGeoff Parker on TwitterSpeakers Profile at Stern Strategy GroupHis work:Geoff Parker on Google ScholarPlatform Revolution: How Networked Markets Are Transforming the Economy and How to Make Them Work for YouOperations Management For Dummies
