Rocker Tim Montana has a new record dropping on July 31st. Jam-packed with special guests including Jerry Cantrell, Billy F. Gibbons, Slash. Charlie and Martin Sheen, Royal Lynn, and Robert Patrick. Yes, all those special guests! The song Break Me Down mentions "Ghosts in the basement", so I had to ask him if he'd ever had a paranormal experience. As with most people, he does. He also told me about a UFO sighting he had. I didn't expect that. We discussed the new album, Entire State Of Tim Montana. That's a name Charlie Sheen gave him. He tells great stories of hanging and playing with rock stars. Really cool!Oh, by the way, YES, he did have a meal at Eminem's Mom's Spaghetti downtown when he came here with Alter Bridge. Enjoy the conversation and thanks for listening!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Peter and Eden kick off with a leisurely check-in — outdoor Godzilla screenings, Eden's miniature laundry room diorama with a 1/12-scale mahjong set, Peter's Amon Amarth/Dethklok concert recap, and new releases from Periphery and LE SSERAFIM. Then, with an assist from ChatGPT's Codex, Peter has assembled roughly 45 of the internet's most-agreed-upon worst album covers for a tier list ranking — S being the most catastrophically bad. The resulting hour-ish is essentially an appreciation of outsider art, deeply cursed Photoshop, and the specific chaos that was '90s rap cover design. Key revelation: the Rednecks, who made Sex and Violins, are Swedish, and that is the Cotton Eye Joe.SHOW NOTESOutdoor Movie Night Gone Right: Eden's projector plan collapsed due to daylight, so they wheeled the TV outside and screened the 1998 Godzilla with Matthew Broderick — which Eden argues holds up better than its reputation suggests. Friend L contributed an observation about American Godzilla's gender presentation that Peter and Eden both find compelling.Daikon 3 & 4 / Studio Gainax Origin Story: Eden showed friends the legendary fan animations made for the early-'80s Daikon convention circuit — blatant copyright-violating anime crossovers that nonetheless launched the careers of the people who would go on to found Gainax (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and later Trigger (Delicious in Dungeon, Season 2).Roombox 3 Progress: Eden's current miniature diorama project is a laundry room featuring a vending machine, an arcade cabinet, and a complete 1/112-scale Chinese mahjong set (all 144 tiles). Models are being dressed in fabric soft clothing rather than left as bare plastic.LE SSERAFIM New Album: Eden's favorite K-pop act has a new record out. The second track samples La Macarena, which prompted a mild generational crisis at the comic shop when the younger staff noted it predates them.Dungeon Crawler Carl / Discworld Detour: Peter is finishing Book 8 of Dungeon Crawler Carl (narrated by Jeff Hayes, whose per-character voice work Peter genuinely enjoys despite usually disliking that approach) and has resolved to go into Terry Pratchett's Discworld next as a pressure valve from heavy genre fiction.Amon Amarth / Dethklok Concert: Peter drove to Salt Lake for the Amon Amarth/Dethklok tour. Amon Amarth was a highlight — Johan Hegg commanding a full audience Viking rowing session — while Dethklok left Peter cold; the Metalocalypse spectacle on screen keeps the audience at arm's length from the music. Castle Rat opened and was a solid short set.Forza Horizon 6: Peter is ~15 hours in on the Japan-set new installment and finding it an ideal low-commitment diversion. Fits easily into 20-minute sessions or longer stretches.Periphery — A Pale White Dot: New album from the djent-adjacent prog-metal band. Peter's read: fewer peaks but also fewer low points than usual — more consistent, somewhat more middling. Flagged as interesting rather than essential.Bad Album Art Tier List: The main event. Peter used Codex to compile ~45 covers from various internet "worst of" lists into a tier list app, with S = truly worst. Notable rankings: The Faith Tones' Jesus Use Me nearly got its own tier above S; Rednex' Sex and Violins landed S upon discovering the band is Swedish and responsible for the definitive Cotton Eye Joe; Iron Maiden's Dance of Death — described as looking like "Baby's first Blender" — is an A despite being one of their best 21st-century albums; Badfinger's Ass (donkey with headphones, hand holding a carrot) closed the list as a deserved S.Creed Sidebar: Human Clay cover triggers a genuine conversation about Creed's arc — good debut, one-and-a-half good albums, then nothing. Peter credits Alter Bridge as the redemptive outcome.

Interview by Angela CroudacePhoto credit Diana SeifertFor George Marios, influence isn't something he carefully maps out, it happens instinctively. Drawing from artists like Alter Bridge and Dream Theater, he describes his sound as a kind of “musical osmosis,” where ideas naturally collide and evolve. Even unexpected touchpoints, like the atmospheric pull of Jeff Buckley, can surface in his work before giving way to massive, anthemic choruses. That same ambition extends visually. His Crash Burn music video embraces a cinematic scale inspired by The Karate Kid and the modern grit of Monkey Man. Taking on multiple roles (director, producer, editor), George pushed through tight timelines and unpredictable challenges to realise a long-held vision. The result is something he considers creatively complete, a rare milestone.Looking ahead, upcoming album Accidental Hero promises a more layered, diverse sound, weaving orchestral elements with organic production choices. Influences stretch as far as Kimbra, while retaining the raw humanity he admires in artists like Adele.George hopes the record inspires listeners to take risks: seize the day, and try anyway.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

This edition of the DBG Times covers a wide range of rock and metal history, along with notable Rockstar Deathdays honoring Phil Lynott, Neil Peart, Steve Clark, Eddie Clarke, Sylvain Sylvain, and John Sykes. Looking back 10 years to 2016, the show revisits releases from Black Sabbath and Megadeth, including Sabbath's final studio-era material and Megadeth's well-received return to a heavier, more classic sound. From 2001, we highlight Turn 21 by The Donnas, an album that helped solidify their identity and garner more recognition. Going back 30 years to 1996, the discussion includes albums from Accept and Mr. Big, reflecting a challenging era as traditional hard rock and metal faced shifting trends. At 35 years (1991), we touch on notable releases by David Lee Roth, Drivin' N Cryin', and Motörhead, showcasing the variety of sounds coming out of the early '90s. Looking at 1986, we revisit Seventh Star by Black Sabbath and the long-delayed debut of White Lion, two releases with very different paths and outcomes. From 1981, the episode covers peak-era albums by 38 Special, April Wine, and Styx, all enjoying major commercial success during this period. Jumping back 50 years to 1976, we discuss releases from Bad Company and Grand Funk Railroad, each facing internal and external challenges at different points in their careers. Wrapping up the historical portion at 55 years (1971), we explore early albums from ZZ Top, Mountain, Lucifer's Friend, and Dust, capturing the formative years of heavy rock and metal. The episode also includes a rundown of new rock and metal releases, featuring recent albums from Alter Bridge, Bullet, Kreator, Gluecifer, Helix, and a final studio release tied to the farewell era of Megadeth. Don and Dude continue the “I Love the 80s” tour with a stop in 1982, a year when rock still ruled the charts even as the culture splintered into cable TV excess, recession anxiety, and neon‑lit moral ambiguity. One host brings a haunted, lo‑fi folk song cycle from Bruce Springsteen that strips away arena gloss to stare down American failure, while the other counters with Brian Eno's fog‑shrouded ambient landscapes, where memory, geography, and unease blur into one continuous sound world. Together, the records trace how 1982 stretched rock from bombastic stadium anthems to cassette‑recorded confessions and experimental soundscapes that felt more like places than songs. The AlbumsBrian Eno – Ambient 4: On Land (1982) A dark, place‑obsessed ambient record, Ambient 4: On Land finds Eno retreating from pop structures into immersive soundscapes built from drones, treated instruments, and environmental textures. Working largely alone with tape composting and field‑recording‑like sounds, he reconstructs half‑remembered English coastal and marshland environments so the listener feels inside foggy, unstable “memory spaces” rather than listening to background music. The album pushes ambient away from soothing wallpaper toward quietly unsettling figurative music that would shape film scores, dark ambient, and textural rock for decades.Bruce Springsteen – Nebraska (1982) Recorded at home on a four‑track cassette, Nebraska strips Springsteen down to voice, guitar, and harmonica for ten stark story‑songs about killers, drifters, laid‑off workers, and families coming apart on the American margins. Intended as demos for the E Street Band, the tapes were released essentially as‑is because their raw immediacy captured a moral and emotional weight the studio could not, turning lo‑fi hiss and dead room sound into part of the storytelling. Long viewed as one of his bravest works, the album reframes the early‑80s landscape as recession‑era noir, where debts “no honest man can pay” blur the line between crime, survival, and faith.Diggin' AlbumsAlter Bridge – Alter Bridge (2026) Hard‑rock veterans Alter Bridge deliver towering riffs and soaring melodies that refine the heavy, emotionally charged sound they have been sharpening for two decades.Toto – Toto IV (1982) Studio‑honed pop rock at its most polished, Toto IV marries big hooks and meticulous production on songs that helped define early‑80s radio sleekness.Butch Dains – “Amelia” (2025) Retro‑minded singer Butch Dains leans into gentle, 50s‑inspired pop that matches his “always clean never nasty or mean” ethosPeter Gabriel – “Been Undone” (o, Dark‑Side Mix) (2026) The lead track from Gabriel's forthcoming album o turns a mid‑90s idea into a quietly luminous meditation on all the ways a life can come apart, carried by subtle grooves and harmonium‑like warmth.Follow & SupportFollow the show on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Bluesky @albumnerds, and support by subscribing, rating, reviewing, and sharing."There is some Eighties music that is just timeless, and some that is so dated it's embarrassing.” - Grace Jones

Summary: “I'm sorry, what was that? No, the second part…the part that came after that…”   METALCORE seems to be all over the place, in that its components are quite varied and cover a broad spectrum of everything that has historically made metal awesome: double bass drumming, guitar shred, breakdowns and mosh parts, and sometimes even some emo screaming and heartfelt vocals sung straight from the balls. Like a heavy metal jambalaya with a ton of different ingredients, METALCORE is the next wave of metal for a new generation of metalheads who want to enjoy a little bit of everything all at once.   Be sure to stop “adulting” and remember that “when people lose their argument, they shift their whole stance”. Realize the darker connotations of saying “I did a thing today” and understand that Cory Hart wears his sunglasses at night because it's terrifying to be “blinded by the light”.    Get ready to ponder the entertainment value of a “scientifically accurate Spiderman”, brace for some quality “decoction” bloopers from the cutting room floor of “Transition Hospital”,  accept the fact that there are still some folks who believe “a non-tattooed 6 is way hotter than a fully tatted 10”, grab yourself “a hot pocket” and JOIN US as we sample the smorgasbord of modern fusion metal known as METALCORE.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode   Help Support Metal Nerdery https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast   Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182   Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on the iTunes/Apple Podcasts - Spotify or your favorite Podcast app Listen on iTunes, Spotify, Podbean, or wherever you get your Podcasts.
