What happens when you spend your whole life performing at the highest level, only to realize, in midlife, that you've been quietly carrying a mental health condition that almost no one talks about? In this episode, I am joined by Jud Heugel: pediatrician, health tech CMO, father, ultra-endurance athlete, and now—mental health advocate. After years of living in silence, Jud opens up about his journey with bipolar disorder, why he kept it hidden, and what changed when he decided it was finally time to share his truth. What started as a casual chat about podcasting turned into one of the most powerful conversations this show has ever held—because Jud's story is not just about bipolar. It's about resilience, self-acceptance, and using your life experiences as fuel for something bigger.   In this episode: His early struggles during medical residency—and what led to a full mental health breakdown The misunderstood highs of hypomania and how they impacted his life and career Why he believes sports—especially endurance sports—can be a tool for healing The stigma of mental health in medicine—and the long road to acceptance How middle age has become a time of radical self-actualization for him   Jud, you're forwarding progress in all ways and it's very humbling that you chose Right in Front of My face to as your starting line to opening up about bipolar. Thank you.   You can find Jud at https://www.thebalancedathlete.org/ and Substack: The Balanced Athlete.   You can find me on Instagram @rightinfrontofmyface or send me a note at rightinfrontofmyface@gmail.com.   If this conversation hit home for you, please share it with a friend and leave a review. If you've felt overwhelmed, under-informed, or just plain scared about AI and what it means for your future and your children's—this is the episode you need to hear.   In this eye-opening episode, I sit down with author Martha Brockenbrough to explore the real impact AI is already having on our lives—and the terrifying potential it holds for the future. We're three episodes into this season, and I'm so excited to bring you this conversation with my friend Cara Rosellini—standup comedian, writer, actress, mom, and just an overall phenomenal human. This episode is a bit of a departure—it's less of an interview and more of a candid chat between two women trying to figure out what it means to show up, be vulnerable, and create something new in middle age.   Cara and I talk about: – Coming back to work and creativity after years away – What it's really like to navigate social media and self-promotion when you're 40+ – The fear of being seen—and doing it anyway – The beauty of failing big and trying again – And why staying true to yourself is the only path forward This one's for everyone who's ever felt frozen, stuck, or unsure if they're still relevant. I mean, how do you sit across from someone trained to see right through people? But from the moment she walked into the studio, Maria defied every expectation I had.   Maria's journey from HR recruiter to federal agent wasn't just about shifting careers—it was about shifting her own perception of what was possible. OK everyone, as my favorite podcaster Danny Pelligrino says, pull over if you're driving. This episode is one of my absolute favorites because we're talking about something that seems to be of interest to a lot of middle aged people - how do I look my absolute best? With such an overwhelming amount of options on every spa menu, I figured more people than just me might want to know the details of every procedure out there. The are SO MANY OPTIONS available on how to fight the aging process - injections, lasers, threading, body contouring, GIVE ME IT ALLLLLL! Here we go. We also segue into skin care which is a super passion of mine, so buckle your seatbelt. If you're a beauty junkie like me, this episode is for you. I invited Audi Padmasuta, Aesthetics Nurse Specialist at SkinSpirit in Seattle, to sit down with me and walk me through alllll the options for maximizing our snatched jawlines, eliminating our pigment, tackling our fine lines and ultimately feeling our best. We mention it all... procedures, facials, and home care. It's quite literally my favorite topic so prepare for a deep dive. In our discussion, we chat about how we can present our best self, but we also discuss how skewed our desires are, how we foolishly compare ourselves to filtered social media images , and how we can all do a better job of presenting our real selves to the world in the healthiest way possible. A year has passed since this interview and I'm now 46, but this conversation has helped me make my decisions about my body and face in the most informed way possible and I hope it will help you too! I hope this conversation has prepared you for your next spa trip or treatment. I could literally talk about skin care all day and am going to post some of my favorite things that have worked for me on Instagram. I'm on a constant skin care journey and will share all I've learned. Have fun trying all these new products - let me know on Instagram what you like and what you're trying! Right in Front of My Face

Welcome to Season 5 of Right in Front of My Face!  It's been a long time coming, but here I am, back in action with my latest fascination and topic - middle age.  This new season is all about my coming to terms with being closer to 50 than 40, and asking the questions that we all seem to have as we cruise - or crash - directly into the middle of our lives.  This season starts with Dr. Katie Dinello, functional medicine doctor.  I'd always been skeptical of anything other than Western medicine right up until I had a major change in my body that my healtcare team couldn't understand.  I found Dr. Dinello, and my first appointment with her was life-changing.  Her approach was so different and so healing that I felt a strong need to share her philosophy with the world.   I hope you can learn something from our conversation that may give you some insight into your own health, and that you come with me on this journey through middle age.  At the time of our interview, Dr. Dinello was living in WA, but has since moved East.  You can still find her on IG: here   Disclaimer: This info is for general knowledge and entertainment only and doesn't constitute medical advice.  Consult with a qualified healthcare professional for any health concerns or before making any significant lifestyle changes. In this episode, artist and cultural activist Melvin Jarman dives into "The Art of Enlivenment," exploring the intersections of creative thought, spiritual awakening, and personal transformation. Drawing on the ideas of Rudolf Steiner and Jean Gebser, Jarman discusses how living thinking connects with artistic expression and social change. Joined by insights from Bonnita Roy as a great influencer to his personal path and his research on organizational development as well as the art of cookery as a metaphor for transformative processes, this conversation weaves together creativity, consciousness, and community-building. Tune in for a rich dialogue that bridges thought and action, art and spirit.  In this inaugural episode of *Roots of Enlivement*, host Cordula Frei engages in a deep and thought-provoking conversation with guest Melvin Jarman. Together, they explore the alchemy of cooking, the process of renaturing, and the wisdom of thinkers like Bonnita Roy, Jean Gebser, and Rudolf Steiner. The discussion illuminates the concept of "enlivened thinking" in response to times of crisis, offering fresh perspectives on how we sense-make and reconnect with the world around us. The episode invites listeners to reconsider the nocturnal, feminine aspect of the psyche, an archetype that calls us back to our origins and primordial trust. Frei and Jarman share their personal journeys in embracing this process, providing insights into how this deepened connection can foster resilience and creativity. As the first in a series of dialogues on ecology, psychology, and creativity, this episode sets the stage for a rich exploration of our inner and outer worlds.  Featured guest:  “My name is Melvin and I work mainly as a chef, consultant and coach around the core theme of being regenerative, both in how we act in the world as individuals, and in how our organizations are operated. My work is centred around learning and applying the challenging and enlivening ideas and practices laid out by Rudolf Steiner and Jean Gebser, and thinkers who have developed their work further such as Bernard Lievegoed, and contemporaries such as Jeremy Johnson.

Light shines brightest in the dark and although there might be people that use God's name invain wanting to get their glory here on earth, there is a group of people who would rather be famous in hell than in anywhere else.Fame is about focusing on yourself whereas influence is about those around you. We should be seeking to help those in every sphere of our lives by pointing them to Jesus. Religion will make us afraid of hell but a relationship with God will make hell more afraid of us so here's some practical steps on how to walk this walk. 1. Proclaim the gospel boldly and regularly and intentionally.  2. Live out the gospel, let your actions line up with the word. 3.  Support the gospel put all your time talent and resources into kingdom things.  4.  Speak Truth in love in order to help those around us.  5.  Be light in dark places, seek an opportunity to be the beacon of light everywhere you go.  6.  Stand firm in your faith and trust god to fight your battles! 7.  Confront apathy in your life.  8.  Dont be afraid of small days because you never know what it will lead to. 9.  Raise the next generation to fear the Lord. We have to realise that we need to stand in the gap for the people of this world. That is the only reason we are alive and in doing that we will end up being famous in Hell even if that means being infamous with those around us and in the world!

When we accept Jesus into our hearts we're not waiting for anointing to hit us but we now become carriers of His Spirit. The heart is the center of our life and when we invite him into the center, this life is no longer subject to our old ways but it is now subject to His rule. By accepting Jesus we are saying yes to receiving all power, all authority and all of heaven that is waiting to back you up. This is what Jesus was trying to say when He said that we have been given the keys to the Kingdom. But sometimes we run into walls in this walk of faith and we begin to question that authority. 1. A wall is not an offensive weapon, it is a defensive tactic. If we've hit a wall it's not because the devil advanced on us but it's because you've advanced on him. 2. When we've reached the end of our faith it simply means we have come to the beginning of His 3. The enemy will lie to us from behind the wall and the only way to use the keys is to use God's word. The truth of His word will set us free. God wants to release His power in our lives, He wants His anointing that rests on to change nations. Jesus picked up the keys to death hell and the grave which He gave back to us in the form of salvation. We no longer have to shout down walls but we get to pick up the keys by opening the word and praying it over our homes and watch the power of heaven release us from our cages. Let's not be Christians in cages for one more day, let's choose to be renewed and restored from now on! Application: Have you run into walls with your life: with your faith, your life, your relationships, your ministries. How can you begin to unlock those cages with the truth? Prayer: Father, protect my heart from the lies that the enemy has been whispering over me. As I've come to this wall in my life, remind me of the truth so that I may declare it. I no longer have to live with this oppression because victory was won on that cross! Thank you Lord for leading me to your truth!

Our dreams can never know the power of resurrection unless they experience some sort of death. All of us want to live but very few of us want our dreams to die and in this walk we find that if they die they actually go into His hands and in His hands there is resurrection power. In order to share in his blessings we have to choose to share in his suffering! It's his humanity that draws us closer to him but it's his divinity that transforms the humanity in us and this transformation is the “process” that we all go through. The process is painful but here are somethings that we can take heart in knowing: Even Jesus prayed to forfeit the process before the promise, but in that prayer He chose God's way! The pain will only affect one person but the process will birth something that will impact the lives of many. Jesus passed the test because He knew  that God was ordering His steps. He clung to trust even when pain was imminent. All of us must go to the wilderness alone and it's there that we will get prepared and tested. The enemy will test us with our own promises without a process. The cost of the process is worth everything, just like the pain of labor is worth the baby in the end. So know that the steps give you the strength to hold the promise in the end. Jesus defeated the devil on the mountain but He fought the flesh in the garden. The ultimate fight is with ourselves but He shows us that the flesh can be conquered! Application -How can you begin to give God worship through the steps your on? Can you choose God's way over your way today? Prayer - Father, the process has been painful. But I long to join in the suffering of Christ so that I may know the joy at the end. I worship and honour you for being God. Thank you for holding my life in your hands and for never giving into prayers that would help me cut corners in life. I give you my dreams and life knowing full well that you will lead me every step of the way. Amen

Back in September of 2021, Jeremy Johnson, Senior Vice President of Finance at Ceridian (now Dayforce), decided it was time to test his mettle—a decision that led him far from where he began, only to return with a leadership perspective somewhat different from what he expected. Determined to challenge himself and expand his horizons, Johnson left the familiarity of Ceridian, where he had steadily advanced his career for the past nine and a half years, to accept a CFO position with SmartRecruiters. Johnson's test, however, was about to grow exponentially. At SmartRecruiters, circumstances propelled him into an even more demanding role, that of the interim CEO. This unexpected turn of events was not just a mere career stint but a transformational experience—one Johnson tells us has influenced his approach to finance leadership, infusing it with broader strategic insights and a nuanced understanding of the business. Upon his return to Dayforce as CFO, it felt like a narrative coming full circle. “This return signifies more than just coming back; it represents the culmination of my growth, challenges, and the broader leadership perspective I've gained,” Johnson remarks. His journey, including the unforeseen stint as CEO, Johnson tells us, has endowed him with experiences and a visionary approach to the finance leadership role. His Early Days: Johnson tells us his early career was significantly shaped by his early experiences at Capella University, where he built a relationship with CFO Lois Martin, who became a critical mentor. His responsibilities in SEC reporting and managing disclosure committees provided a strong foundation in financial reporting and regulatory compliance.

Read- Isaiah 43:18 Acts 2:17-21 Revelation 12:7-12 Revelation 1:14 Revival starts when you catch a new vision of the same old situation. As we prepare to take ground, the most important thing on this journey would be to forget the former things and focus in on what God is doing right here, right now. This fresh vision of our lives will open up our hearts to a move of God like never before and we are to be a church that is building the kingdom wherever we go, we need to remember the following: It is the power of the blood and the power of our testimony that will cause the shift in pain. People don't connect to our promise they connect to our pain, like a puzzle piece, it's what was broken and missing in us that has created a space for someone to partner with us in life. God is bringing us to the dark places to bring the water out of us to bless those around us. Those rivers of living water will be more of a miracle when they come forth in a dry and desert place. We will never step out if we don't know who is with us, all of Heaven is backing us up and that should give us the boldness to preach revival. God came upon the heroes of faith so that they can carry the anointing into every situation. But unlike the heroes of the past, we have that anointing living within us and it has nothing to do with us! We need to know how powerful our God is and then we need to know how much He loves us. We take all God's power away if we continue to hate ourselves and if we cannot see that this all powerful God has left the powers of the universe to rest his hands on us we will forfeit this race. Revival is here and it starts with us! Application: Can we stop looking into the past and press into the future? If there past miracles and great moments in your life that have maybe turned into idols then ask the Lord to give you a fresh vision of the future today! Prayer: Father I pray that revival will break out in me today. I long to be used by you, at this moment. You're not waiting for perfection because you are perfect. If it is a move of God it will only happen through broken vessels and the foolish things of this world. I ask that you move me out of the way so that you can reach the world around me, through me. In Jesus name!

Read- Revelation 12:7 Luke 8:39 Titus 3:3 Colossians 3 We have to remember that more than just one man speaking from a pulpit, there is power in the word of our testimonies. When Legion was saved he wanted to follow Jesus but instead of going with Him he was asked to return home and proclaim the goodness of God. It's time for us to go back to the place where we were broken so that we can proclaim the truth of Jesus and the power of His salvation. Here's why our testimony is important: God took the wages of sin that were piled up against us and he justified us by his grace to allow us step into a purpose that is greater than we can possibly imagine. The ark of the covenant used to be something that held the presence of God but now we are the ark of God, we have a story to tell. Religion has become the chains of bondage instead of sin but let's witness through the Holy Spirit to those around us and help break the Spirit of Religion off. We worship gifted people when our gifts are simply tools to build the house and to shine His light. Work on your gift, cultivate it but ask him to help you use it to honor Him . Jesus was about the Fathers business, that was his ultimate testimony. We are the arks that touch the city and we don't need a mic to testify. Go get people saved and then invite them to church! Application - How can you share your testimony with someone this week? Prayer - Father give me the courage to share my testimony with those around me. I pray that you use every tool I have at my disposal to spread the truth of what you have done in my life.

Amos 9:12-5 Matthew 10: 29-31 Luke 12:6-7 Back in the day the sparrow was a pest in their towns and homes. It would build nests where it wasn't supposed to, it was too quick to be caught, however there are places in the bible that the Lord tries to remind us about our worth through the picture of a Sparrow. The sparrow is both vigilant and joyful. God is looking for some people who are both stubborn and joyful, stubborn for the right things like the presence of God and joyful because of the fruit of the Spirit. 1. It's because we are so fearful of other things but God, that we get angry and frustrated over our lives. When we are in awe of God it replaces all other awes! 2. Vigilance and Joy can be found in a firm foundation of the valley, the mountain top, in the presence of my enemies, the green pastures because God is everywhere. 3.The sparrow is a reminder of not who you are but whose you are. While people overlook the sparrow the Lord looks over it. Let's focus on the nature and character of God and begin to enter His presence! If a pest can live in our house rent free, trusting and living their lives because the Father who loves ALL takes care of them, how can we not believe that we are in good hands? God has not passed us over but he continues to push us forward in His plan. Run to him to receive that revelation and He will give you all you need! Application: Have you been feeling overlooked and forgotten? Do you have a hard time trusting God with the details of your life? How can you take one step closer to His truth today? Prayer: Father, how comforting it is to know that you are the Lord of a sparrow. I have failed to grasp the truth that I am worth anything to you so help me get to know you, so that I may see your character and nature and know in my heart that no matter where life takes me, I can trust you always!

Amos 9:13-15 Isaiah 60:1-3 Matthew 5:13 Micah 7:8 God is doing something with what you called dirt. There is going to come a time when the harvest is going to surpass the harvesters. We might be walking through a season of life that currently looks like dirt, this might lead us to look at the glory days that have passed and idols what the Lord has done, but God is wanting to remind His church that He is doing a new thing and here's why: In the darkest times He longs to shine His light through us. The light of the Lord is violent against the darkness so instead of hiding that light, He wants us to be a city on a hill. The greatest burden, the greatest mission and the greatest passion should be to light the candle in our home. God told us that we are like salt, and just like salt we will never expire, never be able to get rid of our essence. In His hands we can be used to heal, to redeem, to restore and to enhance His will. Many people have misunderstood the parable about the Salt. Jesus did not make a mistake when He said salt that loses its saltiness is worthless because the reality is that salt can scientifically never go bad. Just like that there isn't any expiration date on salt and there is no expiration date on your call. No matter how bad your life has been, you will always be valuable in the hands of God! Application: How can you begin to let the essence of God shine through you where He has placed you? Prayer: Lord because you have called me to be the salt and the light, help me embrace the reality of who I am. I am not to be hidden and forgotten, my purpose will not expire no matter what anyone says. In this season God is done calling us into the shallow. He doesn't care if you just got saved or if you're struggling with sin. He is not calling everyone of us to the deep because what we need it but because the food we need is in the deep end. Here are some things to consider with your relationship with God: God will always be able to use whatever you put before Him. But in order to see the fullness of God youwill need to give all of you. We need to replace our fear of man with the fear of the Lord. Only then will we be able to live a life free to operate in the authority He's given us. God emptied heaven to gain intimacy with us, although we've been fasting making room in our lives for His love will be the most fulfilling thing we do. There will always be two types of people: Sauls or Peters. The difference between the two was this: one dealt with that fear of man the other dealt with immaturity and the pride of man. One repented and the other had a rebuttal. Remember that the same sun that melts wax hardens clay, so what will be your response when the Lord calls you to a greater level of intimacy with Him! APPLICATION: What would you pray for if you knew that God was backing your words from heaven? How different would your life be if you knew that everything you spoke had authority and weight. You can get that way if you allow God to be the number one priority in your life! PRAYER: Father I'm asking you to take me deeper. Forgive me for any area of disobedience in my heart, I know you've asked for all of me and I may have only let you in on some of my heart. I want all of me to be consumed by all of you!

When He created Eden He created us after, to place us in that environment because that is the thing we needed the most. Like a fish out of water we will not survive out of His presence. The enemy does everything he can to get us out of the environment we were designed to be in, because we are made from dirt and spirit there's a constant battle between our flesh and our spirit. That battle is won in the mind and in order to win we must put aside the following childish thought patterns: Personalizing Everything - Not everyone is mad at you. Magnifying Thoughts - Making mountains out of mole hills. Everything is Awful - Expecting the worst out come. Jumping to Conclusions - Assuming the end result. Mind Reading - Thinking that you know other's motives. Negative Filters - Using the lenses of past hurts. Emotional Reasoning - Letting your emotions be your guide. Blame Game - When it's everyone else's fault but yours Selective Thinking - Picking and choosing your narrative 10. The only thing the Lord asks of us to take care of though, is what He has given us. God gives us a destiny but He asks us to be a part of the destiny He has for us. We are the only ones that can limit God in our lives, but in 2024 what if we removed those limitations and watch God do the impossible! What you decide to do will be based on the vision you have for your life. God makes us master creators because we are His masterpiece To create room for God thoughts you have to bring all other thoughts to His throne Between your call and your destiny are choices that build your character. Read Jeremiah 29:11 John 11:1-27 2023 has been a year filled with triumphs and trials, but as we step into the New Year there is something we need to be sure of: “Are you a believer in crisis?” We know what we love to do when Jesus answers our prayers, but what do we do when we go through trials? No one posts about the bad things, we focus on the highlights of our relationship with God. But what happens when you pray and fast and He doesn't answer in the time that you were expecting. In 2024 we are aiming to remember these truths: Delay is not Denial it is in fact the very thing that will reveal the Destiny of our lives We can muster a “Even Now” faith that stands on the truth of who God is instead of the frustration we feel at His delay. Our tears water the seed and connect us to one another, but our testimony will bring new life to all those who need to hear it! Let's lead the Lord to the place where our faith died so that He can show us the truth of who He is. We might have prayed a dangerous prayer like “God use my life” and now we have to wait through broken dreams. But God will never fail of His promise of a Hope and a Future for our lives. For the believer, a certain death is not the end; it's merely a graduation of our Faith! Application - What are some dreams that have died in your life? Can you believe that even now God can come through for you? How can you lead Him to that place of pain, so that He can restore you today? Prayer - Father, I thank you that you are God who has good plans for me. Although I thought that I was overlooked, forgotten or left to mourn the loss of my dreams, I thank you that even now, your word can go forth and bring new life in me. GALATIANS 5:1-26 | MATTHEW 7:3-5 Although Christianity is classified as a religion, the Jesus we know did not come to start a religion. Jesus was not talking to His disciples about a religion, He used every parable to teach us about family and to represent relationship. As children of God we need to be careful because we start with relationship and somewhere down the line we all fall into religion. Here are a few ways to catch our religious mindsets: Remember that we have so much to work on in ourselves that we don't need to judge anyone else. Removing the plank in your own will give you clarity and the vision of love. Removing the plank is hard work but you have to be prepared to do it. God set us free from the law, for us to pursue freedom and the fruit of the spirit. Done focus on not sinning but focus on the freedom that God have us go step into the throne room of grace. The world and the church love to condemn those that pursue Christ. So if you ever feel like stepping out in judgment ask yourself how criticising someone is loving them. APPLICATION: Have you been judgemental lately? Thinking things like "this sermon is perfect for__"  How can you begin to repent and ask God to speak to the areas of your heart that need strengthening today! But the beautiful thing is God want's to give you the priceless possession of Joy, something that no matter what life may throw at you, it won't be able to steal from you. Here are some things to remember about a state of discontentment: The devil is after your worship, and discontentment is a lack of worship Satisfaction lies in the fact that in Jesus, you have it all. God provides a way out of discontentment by giving us His strength to lean on. The secret to contentment is having awareness of Him in every situation. Discontentment is a manifestation of pride in our lives and it was that pride that made the great heroes of faith turn their back on God only to realize that He was all they needed at the bottom. Remember one day we will be worshiping Him and not showing off our trophies in Heaven, but we don't have to wait to get to Heaven to find the treasure of life right here, right now. APPLICATION - Your contentment is a matter of pursuit, so take a moment to look at what you are chasing that you already possess! PRAYER - Father, I know that you have already given me the greatest treasure in life. Thank you for the gift of your relationship. Help me pursue you today in spirit and in truth, show me glory so that I can see that I'm not missing anything in life.
