She specializes in the field of symbolic anthropology and placebo studies, using her expertise to help brands understand the emotional and psychological impact of their branding and packaging.Summary: Dr. Chelsea Shields discusses the importance of understanding the emotional and psychological impact of branding and packaging. She explains how symbolic anthropology and placebo studies can be applied to marketing and advertising, and emphasizes the need for companies to focus on how their customers feel. By creating an emotional connection with customers, brands can build loyalty and increase sales. Dr. Shields also highlights the role of research and testing in developing effective branding strategies.Key Takeaways:* Packaging and branding can have a significant emotional and psychological impact on customers.* Humans are only consciously able to process about 40 pieces of information out of the 40 billion they receive every second.* Luxury brands invest heavily in creating a positive customer experience because their customers value how they feel.* The placebo effect is not just in the mind; it has a real impact on the body's chemistry and can influence healing and well-being.* Testing and research are essential in developing effective branding strategies and ensuring that customers' needs and preferences are met.Quotes:* "Humans have evolved to react and respond neurobiologically and chemically to how they perceive their environments." - Dr. Chelsea Shields* "If you're not creating an emotional environment that elicits positive chemicals for healing, then you are harming your patient." - Dr. Chelsea Shields* "Humans are only consciously able to process about 40 out of the 40 billion pieces of information every second they're getting." - Dr. Chelsea Shields* "If you're not doing your duty on that second end, you're only halfway done." - Dr. Chelsea Shields* "If you're not investing in the emotional impact of your branding and packaging, you're doing a disservice to your customers." - Dr. Chelsea Shields Get full access to Packaging Is Awesome with Adam Peek at www.packagingisawesome.com/subscribe

WELCOME TO A GODDESS CIRCLE EPISODE Dr. Chelsea Shields, a bio-social anthropologist, strategic research consultant, women's rights activist, mormon, speaker, author, mother and wife and so much more, who accomplished 2 PHDs debt free by the way, pretty much defines a modern female boss. Born and raised in the Mormon community in Utah, Dr. Chelsea knew there was more to life than her community let on. She is unapologetically ambitious and rightfully so. She's changing science with placebo studies and human evolution expert work and research through her time in West Africa and in all her endeavors now. Her current book is about removing herself from social media. So no links to social with this goddess, but when she jumps back in next year, we will make sure to add her handles in here. Mel and Dr. Chelsea talk about growing up Mormon with big ambitions and all of her experiences that led her to being a strategic consultant today. She brings up some very valid and wonderful questions for the listeners while being very gracious with Mel's several run on sentences this episode. To clarify, as this episode is highly feminist charged, both Mel and Chelsea LOVE men and would not want to imagine a society without them. They simply support more females in roles of leadership throughout the world and will work tirelessly to become those women, in preservation and support of future generations and the planet. Walk through conversations of linguistic and cultural genocide, to how to win or engage in arguments with people with different beliefs, to tribalism, family therapy, acceptance of the self, skin care, and pursuing your dreams unashamed. Do beliefs impact our biology? What about a rejection of those beliefs? Glenn sits down with Chelsea to talk about belief, culture, social media, the Mormon “cult” (her word, not mine), and both the social and biological costs of walking away from your “tribe.”
Excommunication is all about love, right? Listen in as Glenn, Tom, Matt, Delany Darko, and Chelsea Shields smack down a video blog from Anti-Mormon Crusader Extraordinaire, Jeremy Goff.
Kristy and Chelsea answer another question on how to stop thinking about the church when you live in an area (like the Jello Belt) with constant reminders, like living in the same town as your ex-boyfriend and seeing him everywhere, the listener asked. You won't want to miss Chelsea's insights on cultural iconography and subculture growth.
Chelsea Shields--anthropologist and TED Fellow--and Dr. Money answer an anonymous listener’s question about managing anxiety that he would be disowned. Chelsea has unique insight while answering this question given her own family history coming from a very orthodox family and speaks to how she maintains a healthy relationship with her parents. One final suggestion that we didn't get to on the podcast: Last year an LDS Charities video had a father suggesting that if his adult children left the church he would disinherit them. I'm willing to give the church the benefit of the doubt they didn't catch that when they finalized the video, since the video was about teaching children altruism through example. However, when the clip about disowning was brought to the church's attention, they immediately took down the entire video. You can keep this fact in your back pocket to help manage anxiety: in a worst case scenario if your loved ones do threaten to disown you can show them through timestamped internet history how the church itself doesn't support this because they took down a video of a father saying as much--they didn't want to endorse his views. In Part 2 Chelsea answers a second anonymous question about how to stop thinking about the church so often when you live in LDS-heavy areas and you see reminders everywhere. Chelsea has spent most of the last 15 years in Utah County and SLC and draws from her cultural anthropological expertise.
