Isaiah 40-53 Pt 1 "Comfort, Comfort My People" Blake Johnson November 3, 2024 by Evangelical Fellowship Church
The God of all comfort wants His people to hear words of comfort from His heart to our hearts (Isa. 40:1-2).

Week 4: Isaiah 41:1-20 GOD'S POWER, MY FEARLESSNESS! Isaiah 41 is a message of divine courage. God addresses a shaking Israel, assuring them of his constant presence and protection. In stark contrast to the weakness of idols, the Lord promises to be their unwavering strength and guide. If we can now face the future certain that God will not leave us, what room has fear left to wreak havoc in our hearts?
Week 3: Isaiah 40:27-31 GOD'S GREATNESS, MY RENEWAL! As Chapter 40 draws to a close, Isaiah's prophecy speaks to a despondent Israel. Weary from enduring hardship and pain, the people question God's awareness, let alone His care. In a thunderous response, the Lord declares not only His watchful presence but also His deep compassion. He is the source of strength, refreshment, and renewal, even amidst their trials.

Rich Kolmus brings the message, "Comfort, Comfort My People.” If you've lived long enough, you know that life isn't always easy. At one point or another, we will all wrestle with suffering or sickness simply because we are part of Adam's fallen race. Other times, we face sorrows and pains that are the direct result of sin - our own or someone else's. Often, the adage "God won't give us more than we can handle" will ring completely hollow as we face difficulties that are well beyond our capacity. When you are at the end of yourself, is God still there? Does He remember you? Does He care? Can He help? Isaiah 40 reminds God's people that the answer is... Yes!

Sermon by Fr. Carl Smith 2nd Sunday of Advent
This week BibleWorm is live in Aurora, Nebraska, reading Isaiah 40:1-11 with a group of pastors from the Omaha Presbyterian Seminary Foundation's Pastoral Leadership Revitalization program. We explore Isaiah 40 as a text speaking hope to traumatized communities, both in the time of the Babylonian exile and also today. We discuss the relationship of God's punishment and God's mercy, the call to speak words of hope and encouragement to one another, and Isaiah's image of the triumphant God as a tender shepherd, carrying the people home.
