St. John of the Cross (1542 - 1591) What St. Thomas Aquinas did for philosophy and systematic theology, St. John of the Cross did for mysticism. He brought mystical theology to a plateau, gleaning from the mystics who came before him, and making it accessible to those who want to follow in the contemplative life. Meditating on God is one of the ways we pursue God and His Presence expressing our seeking, thirsting, longing, looking, and expecting to see/encounter God's power and glory. And we know, when we seek Him, we will find Him. Biblical meditation includes reciting Scripture aloud, whispering Scripture to oneself, repeating it continually verbally or inwardly, pondering on it, visualizing it in our mind's eye (imagination) and reflecting on how to obey it. It engages the mind, the mouth and the imagination and results in life change or life transformation. We share ways to practice Biblical meditation: 1. Scripture repetition throughout the day, 2. Meditative journaling, 3. Scripture memorization with reflection, 4. Meditating during daily work, 5. Word meditation before sleep. We also share about Communal meditation. This week, Pastor Grant Harris kicks off our new mini-series, Come Holy Spirit: Knowing, Loving & Living in His Presence, with a message titled Pneumatology Is Worth The Effort. Preaching from Joel 2:28, Grant will trace the work of the Holy Spirit throughout the entire story of Scripture — from creation in Genesis to the renewal of all things in Revelation. Together, we'll explore how the Spirit brings life, empowers people, reveals God's presence, transforms believers, and advances God's mission across history. More than just gaining information, this message invites us into surrender — making room for the Holy Spirit to speak, renew, guide, and empower us today.
UnBecoming Part 2.3 - No Brakes. (May 13, 2026)In a haze of "what if" thoughts, you make your way across the parking lot to your car. A safe haven. You lock the door, depress the brake, and push the start button just to get the air flowing. You notice that despite the fearful thoughts, the Name is still flowing inside, like two competing radio stations. Your attention is torn, a war between the flesh and the spirit. You try to give your attention to the Name, to the Love, to His Presence, but you watch yourself reach for your phone. You are aware that this is not what you want to be doing, yet you watch as your fingers swipe to Safari, then to Google, and begin typing words related to the doctor's visit and potential findings. LESSON 124Let Me Remember I Am One With God.Today we will again give thanks for our Identity in God. Our home is safe, protection guaranteed in all we do, power and strength available to us in all our undertakings. We can fail in nothing. Everything we touch takes on a shining light that blesses and that heals. At one with God and with the universe we go our way rejoicing, with the thought that God Himself goes everywhere with us.How holy are our minds! And everything we see reflects the holiness within the mind at one with God and with itself. How easily do errors disappear, and death give place to everlasting life. Our shining footprints point the way to truth, for God is our Companion as we walk the world a little while. And those who come to follow us will recognize the way because the light we carry stays behind, yet still remains with us as we walk on.What we receive is our eternal gift to those who follow after, and to those who went before or stayed with us a while. And God, Who loves us with the equal love in which we were created, smiles on us and offers us the happiness we gave.Today we will not doubt His Love for us, nor question His protection and His care. No meaningless anxieties can come between our faith and our awareness of His Presence. We are one with Him today in recognition and remembrance. We feel Him in our hearts. Our minds contain His Thoughts; our eyes behold His loveliness in all we look upon. Today we see only the loving and the lovable. We see it in appearances of pain, and pain gives way to peace. We see it in the frantic, in the sad and the distressed, the lonely and afraid, who are restored to the tranquility and peace of mind in which they were created. And we see it in the dying and the dead as well, restoring them to life. All this we see because we saw it first within ourselves. No miracle can ever be denied to those who know that they are one with God. No thought of theirs but has the power to heal all forms of suffering in anyone, in times gone by and times as yet to come, as easily as in the ones who walk beside them now. Their thoughts are timeless, and apart from distance as apart from time.We join in this awareness as we say that we are one with God. For in these words we say as well that we are saved and healed; that we can save and heal accordingly. We have accepted, and we now would give. For we would keep the gifts our Father gave. Today we would experience ourselves at one with Him, so that the world may share our recognition of reality. In our experience the world is freed. As we deny our separation from our Father, it is healed along with us.Peace be to you today. Secure your peace by practicing awareness you are one with your Creator, as He is with you. Sometime today, whenever it seems best, devote a half an hour to the thought that you are one with God. This is our first attempt at an extended period for which we give no rules nor special words to guide your meditation. We will trust God's Voice to speak as He sees fit today, certain He will not fail. Abide with Him this half an hour. He will do the rest.Your benefit will not be less if you believe that nothing happens. You may not be ready to accept the gain today. Yet sometime, somewhere, it will come to you, nor will you fail to recognize it when it dawns with certainty upon your mind. This half an hour will be framed in gold, with every minute like a diamond set around the mirror that this exercise will offer you. And you will see Christ's face upon it, in reflection of your own.Perhaps today, perhaps tomorrow, you will see your own transfiguration in the glass this holy half an hour will hold out to you, to look upon yourself. When you are ready you will find it there, within your mind and waiting to be found. You will remember then the thought to which you gave this half an hour, thankfully aware no time was ever better spent.Perhaps today, perhaps tomorrow, you will look into this glass, and understand the sinless light you see belongs to you; the loveliness you look on is your own. Count this half hour as your gift to God, in certainty that His return will be a sense of love you cannot understand, a joy too deep for you to comprehend, a sight too holy for the body's eyes to see. And yet you can be sure someday, perhaps today, perhaps tomorrow, you will understand and comprehend and see.Add further jewels to the golden frame that holds the mirror offered you today, by hourly repeating to yourself:Let me remember I am one with God,at one with all my brothers and my Self, in everlasting holiness and peace.- Jesus Christ in ACIM
“Truth Must Reign in the Church: Parable of the Wedding Feast” Matthew 22:1-10 ESV What is a parable? The word "parable" comes from the Greek word "parabolē," which means "comparison" or "illustration." More specifically, a comparison of earthly with heavenly things. The parables told by Jesus are earthly stories with heavenly meanings. Matthew 22:11-14 ESV Isaiah 61:10-11 ESV Point To Ponder #1: We cannot take part in the Kingdom of God on our own terms. God’s nearness isn’t just a theological truth—it’s a personal experience that meets us exactly where we are. Deuteronomy 4:7 reminds us that we serve a God who draws close whenever we call on Him. In seasons of uncertainty, waiting, or emotional weight, His presence often becomes more meaningful than the answers we’re seeking. Prayer isn’t only about outcomes—it’s about connection. While we may come to God hoping for clarity or resolution, what He often gives first is Himself. In that nearness, we find peace, strength, and reassurance that we are not alone. Even when circumstances don’t immediately change, His presence steadies us and reminds us that He is already at work. Highlights God is near to us whenever we call on Him His presence often matters more than immediate answers Prayer is an invitation into relationship, not just requests God prepares and strengthens us before we face कठिन moments His nearness brings peace, comfort, and clarity Scripture reveals God’s compassionate and personal nature Have an idea for our newsletter? Full Transcript Below: His Nearness Is What I Needed By Lauren Fletcher Bible Reading: “For what great nation has a god as near to them as the LORD our God is near to us whenever we call on him?” - Deuteronomy 4:7 I have recently been reading a book by Wendy Blight called Rest for Your Soul. In it, she talks about prayer. She describes a time when she was calling out to God amidst a struggle and didn’t hear from Him: “I had a choice to make. I could believe what I was studying, reading, and learning, or I could allow anger, fear, and doubt to continue ruling my soul. What I came to realize during that time (though it was a decade-long journey) was that God was with me. And over those years, though my circumstances didn’t always change, my courage to stand firm in them rose because I knew I was not alone” (Rest for Your Soul). A few pages later, Wendy writes, “Jesus invites us, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He may not fix everything at that moment. In fact, He probably won’t. But it’s an invitation to come and sit with the only One who can give you rest in the middle of the mess” (Rest for Your Soul). What I started to wonder about prayer is if maybe it isn’t about getting an answer from God for a particular need, but about recognizing His Presence and experiencing Him, that prayer is about communication with God. I went through some mental health testing earlier this year. I had been awaiting the results, eager to get the treatment I needed. Yesterday morning, I woke up and read my Bible, as usual. What was different was how present God was with me. Every scripture I read, I felt like God was speaking directly to me, to my heart, like it was just for me. I could hear Him, feel His presence. I was touched and grateful. Later that day, I got part of the news I had been awaiting for weeks. I received my diagnosis. As I processed this, I realized that a reason God had been close that morning is that He knew what I would hear that day—He knew I would hear the results of my testing. He wanted me to know He was there. More than hearing a specific word, what I needed, what I cherished most, was God’s presence, to know He was with me. His nearness is what I needed. One of my favorite scriptures is Psalm 34. In it, David says, “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed” (Psalm 34:18). God knows when we need Him, and He shows up. Intersecting Faith & Life: The Bible also shows that when we pray to the Lord, He draws near. In Deuteronomy, it says, “For what great nation has a god as near to them as the LORD our God is near to us whenever we call on him?” (Deuteronomy 4:7). The Psalmist also writes, “I love the LORD because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!” (Psalm 116:1-2). He listens to our prayers and draws near to us as we pray. He is a personal God. Just like I could feel His nearness as I read the scripture yesterday morning, I could also sense His heart—we can learn more about who He is in that place of nearness. Psalms 103 says, “The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love” (Psalm 103:8). This description of God is found throughout the Bible. David also describes how God is as a Father: “The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust” (Psalm 103:13-14). Have you ever had a time when you felt God’s presence so close to you? Did you learn anything in that place of nearness about Him? Something I think about is when I got the initial call to do testing. God was in this. It felt like the answer to a prayer I hadn’t prayed—I had such peace about it. I also think about how the plans fell so perfectly into place for me to go out of town and do the testing. God had been in the whole process, and He continued to be close. Has there been a time in your life when you have walked through a difficult season but sensed the Lord’s Presence with you? What did that feel like? Was He steadying, comforting, or encouraging? In Psalms 34, David writes, “The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time” (Psalm 34:19). We are righteous through Christ. He will come to help us every time Further Reading: Psalm 145:18 James 4:8 Jeremiah 29:13 Isaiah 7:14 Hebrews 13:5 Deuteronomy 31:8 Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

“Truth Must Reign in the Church: Jesus Confronts Hypocrisy” Hypocrisy According to the Holman Bible Dictionary, hypocrisy means: Pretense to being what one really is not, especially the pretense of being a better person than one really is. Point To Ponder #1: Hypocrisy in the church must be confronted and exposed by God’s Truth. In this message, we are opening a study of the Temple - not an exhaustive walkthrough, but God's intention for His Presence to dwell with His people. As we uncover God's instructions to His people regarding the Temple in then Old Testament, we will discover more of His heart for us - His Temple today.
In the Old Testament the ALTAR was literally where the worshipper found the PRESENCE of God! The worshipper could only travel occasionally to Jerusalem to worship God at the altar, and so the psalmist becomes jealous of the birds because they have built their nests NEAR the altar (Psalm 84:3-4). They have the privilege of the nearness of God’s presence all day, every day. In today’s study Pastor Alexander identifies six benefits to finding His Presence at the altar. May we have such an EAGERNESS to LIVE in the PRESENCE of God - so much so, that we would ENVY a starling in the church’s eves.

Humbly Moses says, “Who am I that I should do this?” This is a question we all must ask. I know God has called me, I know what He has called me to do, but who am I? God's promise to Moses is, “I WILL BE WITH YOU.” In 75 years of ministry, God has always been with me, there has never been a time when I've not been conscious of His Presence, His Power, His Leading. Moses continues, “When I come to the children of Israel and tell them that the God of their fathers has sent me, they will want to know, what is Your Name? What shall I say? Who ARE You?” God replies, “I AM that I AM – Ehyeh asher Ehyeh.” I AM THAT I AM is the English translation, and I've always been intrigued by it. I AM is EXISTENCE. God always has been, in the past, and always will be – in the future! Not created. He EXISTED before the very beginning of time. We cannot imagine it, but God has always been and always will be! He says to Moses, “Tell them, I AM, Ehyeh, has sent you.” God's Name in Hebrew can equally be translated as ‘I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE', as Biblical Hebrew has no future tense, instead a continuous present. I am whoever I want to be, whatever I want to be, whenever I want to be. Whatever I want and say, I do. I am EVERYTHING. I am EVERYWHERE. Hence the fact that in Exodus 3, God is in the burning bush! And speaks from the fire! But to Elijah God does not speak from the wind, earthquake or fire – but in a still small voice.
After encountering Mary in the morning, Jesus next appears to his disciples that same evening. In their fear and uncertainty, Jesus brings His Presence, Peace, and Spirit. Even in the midst of your own deep doubt and fear, how is the Lord encountering you? "Three Gifts From Our Risen Lord," Eastertide, John 20:19-31, The Rev. Dcn. Melissa Lewkowicz.
In Exodus 3 we find Moses keeping his father-in-law's sheep and he comes to Horeb, the mountain of God. He sees a bush on fire but not consumed by the fire. Fires burn and destroy, but not this one. So he comes closer, and God calls him from the fire, “Take your shoes off, you are walking on holy ground,” and He introduces Himself, “I am the God of your father, I am the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” God is revealing Himself to Moses in a very personal way, as the God who has revealed Himself to, and been known by, the predecessors. God says, “I have seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, and I know their sorrows, and for this reason I am come down to deliver them.” (I preach on this verse in Ukraine!) The children of Israel are in affliction, they're slaves in the land of Egypt. In the English, God doesn't say, “I WILL come down,” but “I AM (already) come down!” He's already here. He is the God of the past, the present and the future! His promise to the predecessors was to deliver Israel, to take them into Canaan and give them their own territory. But here God commands Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt!” Moses is just a shepherd, a man who had fled Egypt, because 40 years before he killed an Egyptian. So humbly he says, “Who am I that I should do this?” This is a question we all must ask. I know God has called me, I know what He has called me to do, but who am I? God's promise to Moses is, “I WILL BE WITH YOU.” In 75 years of ministry, God has always been with me, there has never been a time when I've not been conscious of His Presence, His Power, His Leading.

On April 3, 2025, Fr. Arul was shot and killed outside of Sts. Peter and Paul Church. This first anniversary of his death providentially lands on Good Friday. With this rosary, Jesus brings healing to our hurts and traumas through His Presence and the love of His Mother.Good Friday, April 3, 2026
Good Friday has a way of stripping the air out of a room. It's the day when the story looks like it's falling apart: the King isn't crowned, He's crucified, and what should feel like victory feels like loss. If you've ever stared at your own life and thought, “This can't be how it ends,” you'll recognize the tension we're sitting in here. I'm Tosha Williams, founder of Family Disciple Me Ministry and co-founder of Vanguard Church in Colorado Springs, and I want to slow down during Holy Week instead of rushing to the celebration. I share why I turn to poetry when plain teaching can't carry the weight, and I read a Good Friday poem I wrote called “The Great Instead.” Line by line, it traces the exchanges of the cross: throne replaced by wood, honor replaced by mockery, light replaced by darkness, hope laid in a tomb. Then it turns, showing the deeper Christian theology of atonement and reversal, where God breaks sin's curse and brings light through what looks like defeat. This is a reflective, prayerful Good Friday meditation for anyone seeking a deeper walk with Jesus, a clearer view of the crucifixion, and language for suffering that still makes room for hope. After you listen, share it with someone who needs steady hope and subscribe for more faith-based discipleship. What “instead” do you most need God to write into your story right now? Spend time with Jesus this week. Listen and linger with Him, then lead someone else in His Presence this Easter!______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. Every day we have on this Earth is a gift from the Lord! We have the opportunity on a daily basis to make an impact for God's Kingdom, but we have to be the ones to take initiative on the opportunities we are given! Pastor Bill wants us to realize today that we don't know when our time is going to run out. Do we want to stand before God's throne wishing we had done more with the time we had? Or do we want to enter His Presence with the confidence that we did not let a single day go to waste?
The Holy Spirit is available to all. He waits on us to awaken to His Presence. We get so used to doing life on our own that we forget that God has given us power, supernatural power through His Spirit.
The Weight of His Presence explores what it truly means to carry and host the presence of God. Throughout Scripture, God's presence was never meant to be handled casually—it carried a holy weight that required reverence, purity, and surrender. This message challenges us to move beyond familiarity with God and rediscover the awe, honor, and responsibility of carrying His presence in our lives.
This week Pastor Michael continues our series teaching on being Marked by His Presence. Ephesians 5:1-2, Romans 12:1-2.
The Holy Spirit is available to all. He waits on us to awaken to His Presence. We get so used to doing life on our own that we forget that God has given us power, supernatural power through His Spirit.
“Where are You, God?” If you’ve ever whispered that question through tears, sleepless nights, or silent disappointment, you’re not alone. In this episode, we talk about the painful seasons when God feels distant — when prayers feel unanswered and discouragement makes it hard to even find the words to pray. Yet Scripture tells us something steady and unshakable: Jesus promised He would be with us always. Not sometimes. Not when we feel spiritual.Always. Even in silence. Even in valleys. Even in doubt. What We Discuss Why God can feel distant during hardship How discouragement can drain our ability to pray The truth that God hears even unspoken prayers The danger of believing the lie that God has abandoned us Drawing near to God when emotions say He’s far Finding encouragement through Scripture, worship, and Christian community This episode is sponsored by Trinity Debt Management. By Alexis A. Goring Bible Reading:“Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:20 (NLT) “Where are you, God?” If there was a consistent question I asked God last year, that was it. Little did I know that by the start of this year, God would answer my question in profound ways that proved He hears my every prayer and He is always here with us. It started with simple things that were concerning me, then it snowballed into many other issues and situations that were troubling my heart and keeping me awake at night. Sleepless nights were the norm for me that year. I tried praying my way through it, but at times I was too tired to pray. Have you ever been so discouraged that you can barely talk to God about it? However, God taught me that He knows our hearts and He hears even the prayers we don’t have the energy or capacity to pray. He even considers the tears that roll down our faces when we cry as silent prayers, and He understands our pain before we have words to give voice to it. If you’re looking for someone who knows you better than you know yourself, your Maker (God) fits that bill perfectly. Because we live in a world that is negatively affected by sin, we all may face situations in life that cause us to ask, “God, where are you?” It is then that we are tempted by the enemy to believe that God has forsaken us. But in those moments, we need to believe what the Bible says: God will never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8). When you feel far away from God, draw near to Him and He will draw near to you (James 4:8). If you’re having trouble seeking Him, ask God to help you feel His Presence and experience His peace. Remember: He’s always been pursuing a relationship with you before you realized you needed Him and started seeking Him. Now, there’s the fact that God is invisible (1 Timothy 1:17). But the truth is that He is real (Psalm 14:1). Don’t let His invisibility become a barrier to your seeking Him. Over the years, I’ve heard people debate that since we cannot see God, that must mean He doesn’t exist. Well, to that I’d say, we cannot see the air we breathe, but we know that if we don’t have air, we’d be dead. Same with God. We cannot see Him, but we need Him to live. When we are in pain so deep that we can barely get out of bed in the morning and start going about our day, it is important to remember that God is with us in our pain. Soon after the start of this year, God showed me that He had heard my prayers and questions last year. He did this by inspiring a Christian author to ask me if I wanted to read an early copy of her book that is releasing in January 2026. After seeing that the title of the book is “God, Where Are You?”, I knew this was encouragement from God for me. He recommended a whole book (in addition to the Bible) to answer my question. I agreed to read her book and was blessed by it. The author’s name is Dominique Young. The full title of her book is “God, Where Are You?: Unmasking Your Pain, Uncovering His Presence”. It is advertised on Amazon as “a safe space for your deepest questions and your hidden pain.” It’s for people who have been silently suffering under the heavy weight of anxiety, grief, depression, shame, and spiritual doubt. Through this book, she helps the reader discover how near God is to them through their toughest trials in life. God doesn’t abandon you in the valley lows. He’s with you through it all. And He can heal our brokenness. The author invites the reader to stop pretending they are okay when they are not, face the pain you’ve been hiding, and learn how you are seen by the Almighty God as one He deeply loves. Dominique encourages the reader to remember that even when God is silent, He is near and will not leave you. After reading the first few pages of Dominique’s book, I thanked God for answering my prayers on this topic because it was like He was speaking to me through her messages that were supported with Scripture. I am grateful He used this author’s debut book to encourage me in my faith walk. I believe this book will encourage you, too, if you read it. In closing, I’d like for you to listen to three songs (listed below) that remind us God is here with us and He’s going to stay with us until the end of the world. The pasuk says in this week's Parashat Terumah, וְעָשׂוּ לִי מִקְדָּשׁ וְשָׁכַנְתִּי בְּתוֹכָם Hashem commanded the Jewish people to make a Mishkan so that He could rest His Presence among them. Obviously, the Presence of Hashem cannot be contained in a physical building. Perhaps one of the lessons we can learn from here is that if we make a place for Hashem to come into our lives, He will reveal His Presence to us in ways that can transcend nature. How do we make that place? By believing in His control and His abilities. The Be'er HaParasha related a story that recently took place, heard directly from the man involved. A man whom we'll call Yehuda had just merited his first baby after four years of marriage. Last year on Chol HaMoed Pesach he was learning the sefer Netivot Shalom, and there he read that if a person has proper emunah — namely, that nothing is hard for Hashem and He can always help no matter what the issue is — then he can merit his own personal Keriat Yam Suf. The sefer advised having those thoughts and feelings especially on the seventh day of Pesach, when Keriat Yam Suf occurred. Yehuda came home that day very excited to put into practice what he had just learned. He was going to work on believing that Hashem can do anything, including giving him and his wife a baby. He also invited his sister to stay with them for Shevi'i shel Pesach, as she had been struggling with shidduchim for almost seven years. He wanted her to also have this emunah so she could have her very own Keriat Yam Suf as well. They read stories about emunah and statements of Chazal about Hashem, and they truly took to heart that Hashem could help them in an instant. They felt so strong in their emunah that they could already feel the joy of salvation. Now, less than a year later, on the Sunday of Parashat Beshalach, this sister celebrated her wedding. And on Tuesday of Parashat Beshalach, Yehuda and his wife celebrated the birth of their very first baby. True belief in Hashem's salvation can do wonders. A woman told me she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and was instructed to schedule surgery immediately to have it removed. The doctors sounded very negative and instilled a great deal of fear in her. She is a woman who learns emunah daily and refused to let the diagnosis overtake her. She focused on emunah, on Hashem, and on praying, and two weeks later the surgery was done. They told her they believed they removed everything, but she would need months of chemotherapy going forward. She asked them to please take a biopsy before starting any chemo. They told her it was ninety-nine percent certain cancer and she would definitely need treatment. She answered, "I am going to be from the one percent. Please check it." She then went and strengthened her emunah even more, reviewing articles she had saved about how doctors' prognoses are meaningless when it comes to Hashem. She even sent them to her family to strengthen them as well. At the next appointment she asked again if they had taken the biopsy. Once again they told her it was ninety-nine percent a problem, but they had done the test and were waiting for results. Once again she said, "Ninety-nine percent means there is one percent that it is fine, and I believe Hashem can put me in that one percent." The next day, Erev Shabbat, she received a call from one of the doctors who told her, "Your prayers must have been answered. Everything is fine. You don't need any chemotherapy." She felt the greatest feeling — the feeling of Hashem's salvation, the feeling that her emunah was rewarded. She was overwhelmed with gratitude. The more we want Hashem in our lives, the more He reveals Himself to us. Shabbat Shalom.
