In today's episode we speakwith Charles D. Lincoln, an actor, writer, producer, musician, activist, and sometimes-advice columnist. Charles was born and spent the first few years of his life in the area of New York City known as Hell's Kitchen, to a mixed race mother and horror/adult film legend, Fred J. Lincoln, who instilled in him a love of cinema, from a very early age. With the silver screen as his weekend destination as a child, he wrote stories and scripts for fun and appeared in friends' short films and music videos, growing up, but focused more on music than film, fronting the touring bands Dark Eden and Nemesis Imperium. Upon his father's death and after losing half his hearing from Meniere's Disease, he decided to take things a bit more seriously, and dove into the world of television and film, full time. Besides being an actor, Charles stepped behind the camera, producing (with his C. L. Squared Productions partner, Chelsea LeSage) and writing the award-winning vampire feature, Theresa + Allison, as well as writing, directing, and co-producing the cult hit webseries (that later found its way to Amazon), 21st Century Demon Hunter, based off the novel of the same title he had written and starring Chelsea. Bishop's Cove will be his feature film directorial debut. @charles.d.lincoln @bishops_cove facebook.com/bishopscove Bishop's Cove Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBSxA6_oUxo Bishop's Cover Festival Premiere Friday Oct 20th at 10pm shockagogo.com/ Buy Tickets Here https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bishops-cove-tickets-721518259537?

[A note: the content warnings at the beginning also apply to the episode as a whole. We talk about a lot of it in depth in a way that might be uncomfortable for some listeners. This episode is probably even less appropriate for younger children than normal due to that.] We're back having read An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon (https://amzn.to/2OMpWie), and here to talk about it in depth!  We have a pretty far-ranging conversation about the ideas in the book, from how to be a friend and ally, to when violent revolution is necessary, to discussing the large social structures of the ship & the real world. We don't disagree about much, but we manage to argue a lot anyway! And towards the end we get to answering some of the existential questions we asked of ourselves in the post-read. To celebrate having been at the podcast for one full year, Matt & Adrian are joined by Kevin Kelsey of Heradas.com as we make our most self-indulgent pick yet: Dark Eden, by Chris Beckett (https://amzn.to/2TRcpX0). Join us for a somewhat self-reflective episode on why this is one of our favorite books, and why we think everyone should read it. It has linguistics, it has sociology, it has long time scales, it has survival in a harsh world, it has society building, it has a page-turning story, and it is probably the book we've mentioned the most on this podcast without actually reading and talking about it in its own episodes. Kevin joins us to help us ground the conversation for folks who haven't read the book yet, and in a few weeks we'll all three dig into the rich thematic depth of this novel.
