Today we speak with Dean Butler, who has written the book PRAIRIE MAN: My Little House Life & Beyond.  Dean is an actor, producer, and director best known for his role as Almanzo Wilder in Little House on the Prairie, based on the beloved Little House book series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder. He was a producer for NBC Golf's Emmy-nominated series Feherty for over ten seasons. An iconic and heartwarming television show, Little House on the Prairie—and its cast—remains beloved by millions. Dean Butler considers the role Almanzo to be one of the greatest gifts of his life, and now, he's ready to tell the story of his Prairie. Cast at twenty-two years old, Butler had no idea of the lasting impact being cast in Little House on the Prairie would have on him. Having previously starred in Judy Blume's Forever with Stephanie Zimbalist, Butler was fresh- faced and naïve to Hollywood, eager to make his mark. He found his home in the Prairie and embraced his fellow cast members as family. Butler's passion for honest-to-goodness entertainment began in the Prairie and followed him throughout his rich career of acting, producing, and directing. PRAIRIE MAN: My Little House Life & Beyond shares the behind-the-scenes of Little House on the Prairie on a heartfelt journey of “good luck, good television, and the very good— if gloriously imperfect—people who made it so.” Cast as Almanzo, Laura Ingalls' starring love interest, Butler captured the enduring affection of fans and co-stars alike. With a foreword from Melissa Gilbert (Laura) and Alison Arngrim (Nellie), this uplifting memoir follows Butler's journey from childhood to the Prairie and beyond. The book will be released on June 24, 2024 and available for pre-order now, though, Dean enthusiastically encourages readers to purchase it from their local book store. www.deanbutler.com @officialdeanbutler https://littlehouseontheprairie.com/prairie-man-my-little-house-life-and-beyond/

Jeffrey has led a team of caring people wanting to help homeless youth get off the streets for over 21 years. Jeffrey has received awards locally and nationally, including the Channel 10 Leadership Award, Torrey Pines Bank Circle of Excellence Award, La Mesa Rotary "Peacemaker of the Year Award", and the Jewish Family Services Volunteer of the Year Award. He was also a semifinalist for the national Volvo For Life Award. Since 2001, Doors of Change has been transforming the lives of homeless youth, one young person at a time. Originally called Photocharity, the 501(c)(3) has raised over $4.7 million. For more than 18 years we have helped place over 2,000 homeless youth in safe housing and off the streets. In 2013 the agency identified a significant gap in the services and resources available to "transitional-age-youth" (those between the ages of 16 and 25) and decided to re-brand as Doors of Change and deliver a unique service to address this critical need. We work with youth ages 17-25 years old. Recognizing that trust is often a significant barrier for youth in need of services, Doors of Change selected music and art as a non-threatening way to engage young people living on the streets. By offering music and art instruction in a small group setting, youth are given the opportunity to explore their feelings and challenges through the arts, achieve a sense of mastery for the first time, develop social skills that are positive and constructive, and create a vision for the future that is filled with possibility. Tanya Pearson is a Public Historian and Director of the Women of Rock Oral History Project, a collection of digital interviews and written transcripts documenting the lives and careers of (women-identified) rock musicians. A documentary film based on the interviews is currently in production as well as an oral history of rock music. Why Marianne Faithfull Matters, her contribution to the University of Texas Press' Music Matters Series, was published in July, 2021. Her “work” has appeared in The Washington Post, Bust Magazine, Memoir Mixtapes, PopMatters, and some blogs, and  journals.  Pearson discovered a “frustrating lack of information” about the pioneering all-female bands she had followed as a teenager, and set out to close the musical gender gap by collecting oral histories of influential women rockers and thus beginning what has now become the "Women of Rock Oral History Project". When she's not working she enjoys writing, rock climbing, playing in her band Feminine Aggression, and watching The Golden Girls with her dog Andrew. Ryan Newcomb is the owner of In The Q Records, a vinyl-focused indie record label with one mission: Help musicians, both past and present, bring their art to life through the magic and wonderment of vinyl records. www.intheqrecords.com www.womenofrock.org @womenofrockohp www.youtube.com/@WomenofrockOHP

Today our guest is Ruta Lee, one of Hollywood's most multifaceted and top-notched civic contributors. Born in Montreal, Lee is the daughter of a Lithuanian tailor. While at Hollywood High, Lee's career in show business began at the famed Grauman's Chinese Theatre… as an usherette, then candy girl. She was quickly promoted to box office cashier and just as quickly fired. Her dancing was better than her math. She vowed to return to that famous courtyard (years later, talent and serendipity placed her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, directly in front of that box office from which she was fired). Soon after, she was signed by MGM as the youngest of the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and subsequently in Funny Face with Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn, as Tyrone Power's secret love in Witness for the Prosecution, and Frank Sinatra's leading lady in Sergeant's Three, to name but a few of the many films in her credits. Simultaneously, Lee launched into television, with over 2000 appearances on shows from Perry Mason to Power Rangers, Twilight Zone to Murder She Wrote, Hogan's Heroes to Love Boat, and Roseanne. Lee was also co-host on NBC's High Rollers with Alex Trebek, and a regular on Hollywood Squares with Peter Marshall. Ms Lee's connection to her roots in Lithuania, stem from her grandmother, whose release from Siberia made international headlines, and the subject in her recently released, best-selling memoir title Consider Your Ass Kissed. A title referencing the actions required and gratitude for the monumental effort to bring her family to America from Russia during the Cold War. At the time her grandmother made all the news and even went on Johnny Carson with her. Lee is highly acclaimed for her leadership role in The Thalians, a charitable organization which is committed to good mental health from pediatric to geriatric. She has been either chairman or president for over 45 years… roles exchanged between herself and Debbie Reynolds. The Thalians honored Ruta Lee for her dedication to mental health, where she joined the ranks of previous honorees, Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Mary Tyler Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Angela Lansbury and and Clint Eastwood, to name just a few. Recently, the legendary actress received Lithuania's highest honor from President Valdas Adamkus at a magnificent ceremony in the Vilnius Presidential Palace. Her famous Hollywood Estate served as the perfect backdrop to receive a visit from the Lithuanian President and First Lady, with Lithuanian Ambassador To the US Audra Plepyte in attendance. The President and First Lady remarked on how the visit to the estate gave them the rare experience of Hollywood's golden era, as the former home of entertainment icons, Rita Hayworth and Orson Wells.  In addition to the Hollywood luminaries that were imagined to have gathered at galas in the estates palacios living room, or having dinners of 20 or more in the dinning hall, as well as the thought of Ms Hayworth and Mr Wells themselves making an entrance on the grand staircase, is like stepping back in time, as mental images of Citizen Kane come to mind. www.rutalee.com https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/consider-your-ass-kissed-ruta-lee/1139109864

The estate of Rose Marie launched a centennial celebration honoring the star of stage, screen, radio and television whose career spanned 90 years from Baby Rose Marie in vaudeville, to Sally Rogers on The Dick Van Dyke Show, to the top center square in The Hollywood Squares and the subject of the acclaimed documentary “Wait For Your Laugh.” The celebration began with release of ROSE MARIE SINGS: THE COMPLETE MERCURY RECORDINGS & MORE from Sepia Records in association with the Rose Marie estate. Among the 29 classic recordings and rarities are favorite showtunes, standards and novelty songs – all available on compact disc for the first time. Some may only know Rose Marie as the comedienne from “The Dick Van Dyke Show” who occasionally sang, and not realize that she started in the business as a singer with her own radio show at the age of three. For decades prior to her television stardom she was primarily known as a singer opening Las Vegas, headlining the top nightclubs, and performing with the country's best musicians. Rose Marie's daughter, Georgiana “Noopy” Guy Rodrigues, elaborates: “Just in time to celebrate her centennial year, we're so happy to finally have a compilation of my mother's music which her fans have been requesting for years.” In addition to her Mercury recordings dating to the 1940s and 1950s, there are many exciting and previously unreleased songs from her personal archives from her early career on radio and into the 1960s after she became a big television star. Mother accomplished so much in her long, amazing career in show business from childhood into her 90s. She loved her fans and would be thrilled to know that we're still being responsive to them and continuing the conversations she started when she was three,” exclaims Rodrigues. https://www.missrosemarie.com https://www.facebook.com/MissRoseMarie/

With several years of experience in production, she has worked in various production roles ranging from production assistant to director. Raihven is a proficient organizer and has produced several successful productions. Her roles include location scouting, talent casting, and freelance hiring, among others. Her outstanding creativity and attention to detail have earned her rave reviews from her peers. One of Raihven's most notable achievements is the script she wrote in 2019, Unforgettable, while studying under the Emmy-nominated writer, Susan-Sojourna Collier. Unforgettable ranks among the top 35% of discoverable scripts on Coverfly and landed as a semifinalist in the prestigious 2019 Screen Craft competition. Raihven's remarkable talent and dedication have enabled her to refine and expand on the script since 2019. Unforgettable is a touching short story of a young woman with worldly talents, but unimaginable circumstances. This story showcases the societal and familial pressures forced upon young women and the unforgiving realities of life. This film begins with the main character, Jayla, living out her wildest dreams in front of the person she owes it all to, her grandmother, Bell. Jayla is awakened by a blistering fire alarm, or in this case the harsh reality that her dream will never come to fruition. As the sole caretaker of her ill but immensely talented grandmother, Jayla is forced to fight harder than she ever has to achieve what she and her grandmother have worked so hard for. With her grandmother's illness progressing and time running out on her scholarship, Jayla has no choice but to place her grandmother in a nursing home as she heads to the school of her dreams. Much like everything in the young musician's life, this joyous and prestigious occasion is met with great difficulty and challenge. She battles with her family, systematic processes and herself until she breaks.  https://www.unforgettable2023.com/ @unforgettable_thefilm @raihven
