How do you go from being a director of photography to a successful business owner of a film production company starting from scratch? Some people say you have to be a specialist to succeed in this modern world. And there's a lot of truth in that. But filmmaker Daniel Fazio has gone about things differently. In his own words, he's not been amazingly successful at any one thing, but he's been pretty damn good at a lot of things - and that's what has enabled him to build a solid business.Perhaps more interestingly, his capacity to take on new skills and adapt to new ways of getting ahead as a filmmaker, has helped him better understand who he is and what he wants in life. If you're just starting out as a filmmaker, or even if you want more insight into working with creatives, this episode is packed with valuable observations about the process of getting all kinds of film projects off the ground and distributed. “The opportunities are there now. You have to go out and grab it.” – Jill Demby Guest When Jill Demby Guest was a child, she loved writing and telling stories. She followed that passion along a very interesting trail (which included a stop working at Madison Square Garden) that has led her to become an Emmy-nominated producer, writer, and director. Her latest documentary, “And Now, Love,” is out now on major streamers and has won numerous festival awards. The film chronicles the story of Dr. Bernard W. Bail, a highly decorated Jewish WWII Veteran who was captured by the Nazis and saved by the secret love of his German nurse. Bail became a doctor and psychoanalyst who pioneered the “mother's imprint,” a theory that advocates for the equality of women and pinpoints the origins of mental illness. In this episode, Jill discusses the making of the film, the power of asking for what you want and going for it, and offers advice to aspiring filmmakers. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tomgirltv/support

Charles D. Lincoln: An actor, writer, producer, musician, activist, and sometimes-advice columnist, Charles D. Lincoln was born and spent the first few years of his life in the area of New York City known as Hell's Kitchen, but moving to New Hyde Park, Long Island eventually, where he lived until he reached adulthood. The son of adult-film legend, Fred J. Lincoln, his first love had been music, rather than film, fronting NYC underground bands Dark Eden and Nemesis Imperium. However, from a young age, he had written stories and scripts for fun and appeared in friends' short films and music videos. Upon his father's death and after losing half his hearing from Meniere's Disease, he decided to take things a bit more seriously, and dove full-time, into the world of acting and writing, doing both, as well as producing the feature film, Theresa & Allison. In recent years, he has branched out into directing, which he did for the web series 21st Century Demon Hunter, starring Chelsea LeSage. Mellinda brings the charm and the stories in this tremendous episode! From her humble beginnings moving to LA from Indiana and starting out doing background work and PA work to becoming an associate head writer on "The Young and the Restless", to being a free agent and self-producing her own work, Mellinda's got a lot to talk about. She tells a Rough Day In Showbiz story about meeting her idol, the creator of "Bob's Burger's" and accidentally saying a little too much thus mortifying her, another about her early days working as an office PA for commercials candidly revealing the odd, silly demands of the folks at the top, and a final story about a weird/fun twitter account she made celebrating basketball athlete Duncan Robinson's arms.
