TedX Speaker and attorney, Emily D. Baker is getting real about what it meant to  find her identity in her career only to realize it wasn’t who she wanted to be. Emily went from living a life as a lawyer with constant police protection to helping online business owners get legit in their businesses and finding more time to focus on herself and her family. Emily is both strong and soft in her personality and one of the strongest, smartest and most badass women I know. We’re talking about what it means to shift your career to be true to who you are and fit the needs of your family, the differing views on feminism and the way women are treated in the corporate workplace and what the future of online businesses looks like.  Don’t lose your identity in your career…Make your career about YOU! What we’re talking about Emily’s TedX Talk On Self-Identity: When Your Identity Gets Lost In Your Career Different Points Of View On Feminism Who We Are vs. What We Do – Shifting Your Career To Fit Your Life Emily’s TedX Talk On Self-Identity: When Your Identity Gets Lost In Your Career Emily’s TedX talk on self-identity stemmed from the fact that she got lost in her legal career because she self-selected her job. She says that when things get dysfunctional, such as having police protection for yourself and your family all the time, they simply feel normal for you. It feels good until it doesn’t anymore. As a way to discover what else was out there, Emily stepped into the MLM world for a moment and the one thing she learned was that there is a group of women out there who are all looking for more when it comes to working for themselves and finding a balance for their families. We are taught as children that everything in life is about what we do. It starts with adults asking children what they want to be when they grow up and in turns makes money become your sole identifying factor. Emily became determined to shift her identity and not let money be wrapped up in it. Emily decided to look at what parts of her life she had stifled and to start making that switch. We are in charge of creating the life we want to live, but we need to recognize the changes we need to make in order to live the life we want. Different Points Of View On Feminism Emily is hands down a feminist and we discuss the differences in how feminism is viewed. Women are treated differently than men overall in the workforce. This is apparent in the treatment of men versus women leaving for a child’s t-ball game or in caring for a parent. A man might be patted on the back if he leaves for a game and told he’s a good dad, while a mom might be asked why she’s leaving early again. We can also look at our maternity leave policies and the lack thereof in the corporate world as an example of how our views on women in the workforce need to shift. Some feminists think that laundry might not be enjoyable, yet the fact that you can choose to do your laundry and run a business and do what you want is truly what being a feminist is about.  Who We Are vs. What We Do – Shifting Your Career To Fit Your Life Who we are is often defined by what we do as a career. It’s important to shift your career to fit your life and your identity. Instead of being wrapped up in the metrics or performance of money, we should focus on once our needs are met by our finances to understand that it’s ok to slow down and take a break. Money is not who we are or what we should be identifying with.  Emily shares how having an online business allows for this kind of mentality and mindset shift and how right now is a wonderful time to launch your own. She warns that you should pay attention to the ever changing legal landscape of online businesses as they become more regulated.  Have you shared your 3 words that you identify with?  LINKS MENTIONED Emily Baker’s Website http://www.emilydbaker.com/ Emily’s Instagram http://www.instagram.com/theemilydbaker Get Legit ShopGet Legit Shop http://www.getlegitshop.com/ Federal Trade Commisson v. In a case related to the New York Times investigation into American company Devumi, a court has ruled that Devumi can no longer operate in the same way as it had been, essentially outlawing the sale of social media followers and likes. The chief executive of cryptocurrency company Quadriga CX has died, and he's apparently the only one with the ability to unlock all his customers' coins. Without their digital keys, his clients lose access to their funds. The company's board of directors said last week it is seeking creditor protection. Joost de Valk announced at YoastCon that the popular WordPress plugin, Yoast SEO, will provide live indexing with both Google and Bing starting next month. They explained on their blog "For Google the details on this are not entirely determined yet, but a Google Search Console account will probably be required." So it seems they aren't clear and for some reason, I doubt it would be the Indexing API because that is highly restricted to specific types of content.

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from January 30, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join. Hour 1:  Cenk. Despite widespread coverage of corporations gifting their employees with cash, just 2% of Americans say they've seen any kind of benefit thanks to the Republican tax law signed by President Trump in December. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-N.J.), the chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee who defied his party to vote against President Trump's tax cuts, announced Monday that he will not seek reelection. The Netherlands' spy service broke into the computers used by a powerful Russian hacking group and may be sitting on evidence relating to the breach of the U.S. Democratic National Committee. The US has released a sweeping list of prominent Russian business and political figures, in defiance of Moscow and implementing a Congressional law designed to punish Russia for election meddling. The US Treasury report, published shortly before a midnight deadline, listed every senior member of the political administration at the Kremlin, and every Russian oligarch with a net worth of $1 billion or more. Some of those named are already subject to US sanctions. But the administration stopped short of imposing any new punishments, saying the legislation was already doing its job. The report was "not a sanctions list," it said. Instead, the Treasury report resembled an exercise in naming and shaming -- putting individuals on notice that they may be subject to sanctions in the future. Cenk’s prediction/theory: Trump laundering money to Russian oligarchs for decades. Hour 2: Face recognition technology to put celeb faces on porn. Between 2006 and 2016, a total of 20.8 million prescription painkillers were sent to two pharmacies in Williamson, in Mingo County, West Virginia, a town with a population of only 2,900 people. A U.S. government panel is now questioning how drug wholesalers could have sent millions of prescription pills to two pharmacies in West Virginia without flagging any suspicion, The Charleston Gazette-Mail reported. The panel is centered around two drug wholesalers who provided drugs to the pharmacies, Ohio-based Miami-Luken and Illinois-based H.D. Smith. Shipment papers indicate the wholesalers made large deliveries of the drugs over several consecutive days. The papers also show extreme increases in the number of drug orders from year to year. Both of these records should have sparked suspicion. The main drugs identified in the investigation are hydrocodone and oxycodone, two prescription painkillers. A New York Times investigation into a company that sells Twitter followers and retweets - many from automated accounts - names a variety of celebrities, including Cleveland-based celebrity chef Michael Symon. According to the Times, the company, Devumi, has a library of 3.5 million bot accounts that can be sold repeatedly. The Times says Devumi "has provided customers with more than 200 million Twitter followers." Millions of Americans believe God made Trump president. Learn more about your ad choices. Today's Commexis Cast discusses New York attorney general Eric T. Schneiderman's plan to open an investigation into Devumi, a company that sold fake follower bots on social media sites like Twitter. The New York Time's Nicholas Confessore reported on the attorney general's plan Saturday, following another Times report by Confessore alongside Gabriel J.X. Dance, Richard Harris, and Mark Hansen. The piece by the four Times writers is an in-depth investigation into Devumi that looks at company financial records and found various celebrities and influencers using the service to gain followers, sometimes over 750 thousand at once. We highly suggest you click the link above and check it out. Matt and Phillip discuss what lead to the prevalence of Twitter bots on the platform and the danger of being able to forcibly push influence. For example, the Times investigation showed that a tweet by Clay Aiken (below) had 5,000 followers bought through Devumi to retweet the grievance. What is stopping a user or brand from doing this for a hastag? The Cast also discusses what Twitter is doing, and should be doing, to help alleviate this issue and regain brand's trust in the platform. Today's cast: Phillip Brooks (Commexis Lead Strategist) and Matthew McGrorty (Commexis Videographer/Podcaster). Join the Commexis team as we add context to these stories for the busy CMO.
