Doyle Dykes possesses a rare gift, one that has propelled him to play some of biggest stages in country music, including The Grand Ole Opry, both as a member of Grandpa Jones' band, and more recently as a solo artist. He has shared the stage with his peers, other world renown guitarists, and he was asked to play at a memorial for his friend, Chet Atkins. Doyle talks about his new weekly video podcast called "Sunday String-a-long", what he learned on the road, and several great stories. This week, Ozark original multi-instrumentalist, composer, educator, audio engineer and OHR host, our very own Mark Jones recorded live at Ozark Folk Center State Park. Also, interviews with Mark as well as with his long time friend, country music superstar Marty Stewart. Anyone who listens to Ozark Highlands Radio will be familiar with the fun loving and friendly voice of Mark Jones, the keeper of our “Vault.” In August of 2021, we lost Mark to Covid-19. His passing was a profound loss to all of us, both professionally and personally. Please join us as we pay tribute to the life and legacy of our dear friend, Mark Jones. Mark Alan Jones was born in 1955 to Country Music Hall of Fame & Grand Ole Opry performers Louis "Grandpa" Jones and Ramona Jones in Nashville, Tennessee. As a young man, he toured across the country with his famous parents making appearances on the Grand Ole Opry and the television show "Hee Haw.” He performed with numerous other artists including the Willis Brothers, the Wright Brothers, and Jimmy Driftwood's Rackensack Folklore Society. He also worked as a sound engineer for the Statler Brothers. Mark toured with renowned guitarist, Doyle Dykes, playing in churches throughout America. He was a regular performer at the Grandpa Jones Dinner Theatre in Mountain View, Arkansas, and was a founding member of the Arkansas Beanfest. Mark spent several years playing banjo and running sound and lights at Silver Dollar City and Shepherd of The Hills Outdoor Drama in Branson, Missouri. He also worked as a performer and sound engineer at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas. Throughout his life, Mark taught private music lessons helping to preserve traditional folk music. Even though his life was deeply engrained in music, he enjoyed working with the intellectually disabled and often used his musical talent as a therapeutic tool. Mark is a 2021 inductee of the George D. Hay Society Hall of Honor. In this week's “From the Vault” segment, musician, educator, and country music legacy Mark Jones offers archival recordings of himself and a few of his friends demonstrating his true passion, the clawhammer banjo. Hear Mark playing the tunes Mountain Whippoorwill, Cripple Creek and John Hardy, from the Ozark Folk Center State Park archives. Author, folklorist and songwriter Charley Sandage presents an historical portrait of the people, events and indomitable spirit of Ozark culture that resulted in the creation of the Ozark Folk Center State Park and its enduring legacy of music and craft. This week, Charley celebrates 50 years of the Buffalo National River. This episode continues our tour of places “you shouldn't miss” and other remarkable spots along the 135 miles of America's first national river, as well as where to find information about park events, facilities and services. Featured are interviews with park ranger & interpreter and Buffalo National River Partners Board member Kevin Middleton and Buffalo National River Partners Board Chairperson Terrie Martindale.

Legendary musician Doyle Dykes ministers through music and encouraging stories. (February 7, 2021)
He is recognized as one of the world's best guitarists, a fingerstyle guitar player who regularly plays top venues such as the Grand Ole Opry and the Cavern Club in Liverpool. Doyle Dykes is equally at home in a small church building, sharing the amazing God-given gift with fellow believers. This truly humble man, who Chet Atkins once called "one of the finest fingerpicking guitarists around," is much more than just a great musician - he is a great lover of God. Doyle first encountered the Gospel and Jesus at age 11, and his life has forever reflected the statement that God helped him make, even at that young age: "Lord, give me a job to do, and I will always tell others about you." (Note - the songs that were used on air had to be deleted from this podcast, due to Internet licensing restrictions.)
Doyle’s relationship with God and the church and how it impacted him throughout his life… loads of true stories about what some might call serendipity, but what others call divine intervention… A major medical hurdle he had to overcome which nearly destroyed his music career, top 3 musical experiences, playing with Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy and Eric Johnson… his 47 year marriage, Glen Campbell, a lesson learned at the drive in, Guitar Poor & more. LOVELY guy, great convo, incredibly sincere in his beliefs: World-renowned finger picker Doyle Dykes is equally adept on acoustic or electric. He’s played w Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, Merle Travis, Les Paul, John Fogerty, Vince Gill & Others. Doyle grew up in gospel music and has since toured all over the world playing gospel, country, blues, jazz and other genres. He’s also a member of the International Country Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame, and a 2-time ICGMA Instrumentalist of the Year winner. This is a special opportunity to have Doyle Dykes share his gift of guitar and the message. We had a technical problem with the Amplifier so Doyle plays "unplugged" and he is still absolutely amazing. The word he shares is about God's timing and His provision. His provision is always there without limit, however, His timing is often waiting on us to be ready to receive. This is a message for us today... Listen and enjoy and be blessed...

As a singer-songwriter she's recorded two albums and opened for bands such as: Jethro Tull, Vonda Shepard, Dan Fogelberg, and Doyle Dykes to name a few. She even recorded and performed with Janis Joplin's band, Big Brother and the Holding Company. As a vocal graduate of Douglas Anderson and a student at North Carolina School of the Arts, she studied singing in the following various styles: Opera, Blues, Musical Theater, Jazz and World Music. Jessica Leigh continues to build her varied repertoire while songwriting and maintaining independent music studies. Currently, you can hear her doing backup vocals with Mama Blue as well as maintaining performances as a solo artist." Guest Interview: Jessica Leigh Walton The first step in her career was at 15 when she picked up a guitar. Her dad helped facilitate her interest in guitar. Her dad was actually the first person to record her in his studio. Her dad who owned a guitar shop surprisingly didn’t play guitar. Jessica has two kids, 18 & 19, who are both musicians as well. She chose to find someone to teach her daughter guitar instead of being a dictatorial mother trying to teach her guitar. Once she started managing herself she was exposed to so many more genres. She idolized Janis Joplin, she was actually able to perform with Joplin’s band. One of the songs on her second album was a song that Joplin was actually supposed to sing. She sings backup for Mama Blue. They’ve been friends since high school at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts where they both attended. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tastetestlive/message

Well, you won't anymore. Whether you need more strumming patterns in your repertoire or are interested in learning some new ones, this video lesson will do the trick! #3 What's On the Turntable This Week? This week’s featured acoustic artist came recommended to us by Acoustic Tuesday listener Caleb H. I know Doyle Dykes as a fingerpicker, but he is a musical chameleon. He is an amazing musical arranger, composer, and player. Doyle's one of those players that you need to know about if you're an acoustic guitar player. #2 Faith Guitars Review I love fine guitars, it's pretty clear. BUT I do know there is an array of guitars out there, in all price ranges and categories. Each guitar has it's good qualities. Just because a guitar is inexpensive doesn't mean it's not a good guitar. Faith Guitars does a great job in balancing the price of their guitars and a really good sounding guitar. These guitars are made in the UK and come at a really fantastic price. #1 American Epic Review American Epic is a musical TV series that I just recently started to get into. This show really traces the roots of American music. The series is fascinating, from the footage that they dug up, to the songs featured, to the interviews....this show is multifaceted.
