WELL, WHAT DO YOU KNOW? THE CINEPUNX ARE BACK, AND READY FOR TROUBLE! This episode is jam packed with cinema action! First off, we decide to start a conversation we surely continue into the future about the films of Agnes Varda who recently passed away. Varda was an essential part of the French New Wave and continued to make films long after that movement ended, including some highly praised documentaries. She was largely unfamiliar to us when she passed, and we decided this was a pretty large gap in our film knowledge and expertise. Thus, we started with one of her best known films, currently available from Criterion, Cleo from 5 To 7! That is not all though! We also have our world famous segment WACK AND ON TRACK! During this we chat about JOHN WICK CHAPTER 3: PARABELLUM as well as Exhumed Films EX-FEST IV and The 5th Annual Nitrate Picture Show! As always thanks to YOU for listening, to our Patreon supporters for being awesome, and to LVAC for being our official sponsor. As always there is more to say but who has time? HORROR BUSINESS EPISODE 42: Avoid The Oids (Inseminoid & Creepazoids)

Horror Business

Greetings, and welcome back to Horror Business. We have one awesome episode in store for you guys. On this episode we’re discussing two films dealing with those pesky Oids: 1982’s Inseminoid and 1987’s Creepazoids. First and foremost we want to give a shoutout to our sponsors over at Lehigh Valley Apparel Creations, the premiere screen-printing company of the Lehigh Valley. Chris Reject and his merry band of miscreants are ready to work with you to bring to life your vision of a t-shirt for your business, band, project, or whatever else it is you need represented by a shirt, sweater, pin, or coozy. Head on over to www.xlvacx.com to check them out. Thanks! We start by talking about what we’ve seen or done lately in the field of horror. We have a brief discussion on the recent Childish Gambino video “This Is America” and how some of visuals in the video are undeniably horrific. We follow this by having a brief discussion of the recent trailer for Revenge, in which misogynistic comments made by male YouTube members were used to promote the movie. We discuss the upcoming release of Hereditary. Liam talks about his befuddlement at people enjoying further installments in the The Conjuring cinematic universe, and touches upon subscribing to the new Fangoria service. Justin talks about finally seeing Resolution in anticipation of seeing The Endless but ultimately failing to see the latter due to GPS mishaps. Liam talks about attending Exhumed Film’s Ex-Fest in Philly. First up is Inseminoid. We begin by talking about how this movie is essentially an attempt to cash in on the success of Alien. We give a brief plot outline of the movie. Justin talks about his unease with a movie that has as its villain a woman who is the victim of sexual assault. There is a discussion about how the story of the movie is affected by the budget available and how that is quite clear in the look of the movie. The idea of an ‘earnestly made bad movie’ is touched upon briefly. Liam points out that the film’s lack of a villain is the reason the movie leans so hard in to Judy Geeson being the bad guy and ultimately falling short in doing so. Liam and Justin have a brief verbal scuffle on the matter of Lifeforce and British horror. The performance of some of the actors is discussed, in that they’re fine but not amazing. Liam discusses how the film looks, and weird lack of weapons in British horror films is discussed. We talk about the rushed production and the strange scene involving the baby Inseminoids. Next we talk about Creepazoids. We briefly discuss the career of director David DeCoteau and give an outline of the movie. The shoddy production value of the film is discussed. The gaps in the plot outline, very bad acting, and terrible set design are discussed. We talk about the creature’s lack of motivation, in that it’s not quite clear what the creature’s purpose is. We talk about the film’s jocking of other films such as Evil Dead and Alien. The plodding nature of the film and it’s horrible pacing is discussed, as is the flat archetypical characters. The history of horror movies copying big budget films at the time is discussed. As always thanks to everyone and anyone who donated on Patreon, checked this episode out, or shared a tweet/shared a post on FB/gave us love by recommending us to someone. We love you forever for listening. Any questions, comments, suggestions for movies and guests, or if you yourself want to join us for a movie viewing or even an episode, can be sent to thehorrorbiz@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you! Thanks always to Justin Miller and Doug Tilley for their technical contributions and fliers, Mike Smaczylo for the shirts and fliers (you can check more of his work out at here), and also thanks to Josh Alvarez for the theme song, Chris, Brad, Alexis, and LVAC for the support and buttons (check them out at www.xlvacx.com), and a HUGE thank you to anyone who retweeted us or shared something on Facebook that we posted.

I AM CINEPUNX, AND THIS IS EPISODE 63! Welcome you, our intergalacticly cultured audience, and thank you for giving us your precious time! On this cosmic adventure packed episode we discussed the latest Marvel release, GUARDIANS OF THE  GALAXY VOLUME 2, James Gunn’s trippy and feel good comic book adventure tale. SPACE! LASERS! VIOLENCE! LIVING PLANETS! DADDY ISSUES! GROOT! Our special guest this week is Philly punk luminary ANDY NELSON! You may know Andy from his many bands like PAINT IT BLACK/ CEREMONY/ OPEN CITY/ DARK BLUE, or from booking shows in Philly. Andy is a big film fan, and would have a LOT to say about French New Wave directors, but we wanted to talk about GOTGV2 so fuck it, we will just have him back on again later.   We start off the episode with extended conversation on a variety of random topics, though we are TRYING to mention our sponsors, LEHIGH VALLEY APPAREL CREATIONS Josh also manages to get the bands Andy has been in very wrong. We then moved into Wack and On Track, where we discuss Ex-Fest, John Waters, Get Better Fest, the new Solarized tape ,Death Rides a Horse, Street Asylum, Raw, new music releases, that crappy King Arthur movie, and more! We then get into the meat of the discussion around Guardians , a film we all enjoyed, but with varying levels of skepticism. Right now there is a lot of folks getting upset about negative takes on this film, mostly because of the some really poorly thought out pieces criticizing baby Groot. Please, don’t @ us about this, we liked the movie, we just maybe didn’t LOVE it as much as y’all did.   We also plug some important stuff worth linking to, as well as feature some music you might care about OPENING SONG OPEN CITY DARK BLUE CEREMONY RESIDENCY BREAK FREE FEST GOT ME A MOVIE BLACK SUN DISPATCHES THE MAHONING DRIVE IN THEATER EXHUMED FILMS JAMES HARRIS MEMORIAL SCREENING HUDSON JAMES HARRIS MEMORIAL SCREENING YONKERS   Thanks to Andy, Jaime Burchardt, Lehigh Valley Apparel Creations, Exhumed films and especially Justin Miller, and all of you for being the greatest! CAUTION, AHEAD LIE SPOILERS FOR AGE OF ULTRON, LISTEN AT YOUR OWN RISK! Welcome to yet another salacious edition of Cinepunx where we talk Ex-Fest! This episode’s guest is Jennifer Rodgers (@FinalGirlSG ) who you may know from her blog Final Girl Support Group! The episode also feature’s our own Sean Bennis-Sine, one of our extended members. He is like the Falcon to our…oh wait, Falcon is a regular Avenger in the MCU now. Oh wait, gimme a sec here. He is like the Havok to our 80’s Uncanny X-Men. That works right? For those of you who do not know, Ex-Fest is a 12 hour Exploitation Film festival, all presented on 35mm, put together by our good friends over at Exhumed Films. If you would like to read more of Liam’s thoughts on the fest you can find his review here. You probably don’t though cause he talks a LOT on this episode. Usually when you have a guest on your show, you make room for them to talk. This is doubly true when you technically have two guests, even if one is Sean so he doesn’t count. However, Liam is one talky Mcgee this episode and he feels bad about that. Sorry. Regardless, we discuss a few things as well as Ex-Fest such as: AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON ROAR UNFRIENDED SEAN BEING DRUNK OUR EVENT ON MAY 11TH ZOMBIE DRIVE IN HOW STOKED WE ARE FOR FURY ROAD You get the idea. Also, not in that order. Thanks as always to all of you for listening, and to Jen and Sean for being on the show. SOUND NOTES: It is ok. Gets a little echo effect toward the end. Why does it do that? Most likely because you don’t say your prayers anymore. We are, we hope, going to be making a concerted effort to raise the money to buy new equipment. Wanna help out? Easy, go to this event and buy a shirt. Also, just give us some cash. Also, hit us up with connections to cheap sound equipment. We need a mixer with a usb out, some microphones that are ok, and chords. That is it yall. Ok, thanks again for listening, subscribe to us in stuff, and be cool or whatever. Don’t want to miss an ep?
