Ben & Rob Netflix & chill with the hosts of the Ctrl Alt Critique podcast for ‘Inseminoid', Britain's 1981 answer to the age old question: “Can you make Ridley Scott's sci-fi classic ‘Alien' but with a fraction of the budget, talent and schedule?” Well obviously not, but we've got Adam, Amber and Bailey from Ctrl Alt Critique in to help us dissect all things ‘Inseminoid', from its bizarre plot to its awfully dated effects, tone and subject matter. Banned in the UK with copies legally required to be destroyed by police, ‘Inseminoid' stars Judy Geeson, Robin Clark, Victoria Tennant and Stephanie Beacham as a crew of space explorers attacked most intimately by a mysterious extraterrestrial force. But how on earth did this bizarre ‘Alien' ripoff become so strangely successful at the UK box office? Is it even a ripoff of ‘Alien', or do its roots run to deeper sci-fi influences? Can a podcast with five people hosting work in any meaningful way? And how does Ben keep managing to force his friends and co-host into watching these bizarre films from a past we'd rather forget?!CONSUUUME to find out all this and much MUCH more!Find us on your socials of choice or WATCH this episode at www.linktr.ee/everymovieeverpodcast and our lovely guests can be found at linktr.ee/ctrlaltcritique

Stephanie Beacham is without a doubt one of Britain's most talented, beautiful and well-known actresses. Despite becoming world famous and an icon of the 1980s due to her role as Sable Colby in the American soap operas Dynasty and The Colbys and going on to have starring roles in shows such as Sister Kate, Seaquest DSV, Beverly Hills 90210, and Bad Girls, Stephanie Beacham had already carved a solid acting career back in her home country. Born in Hertfordshire in southern England, one of the four children of an insurance executive and a housewife, Beacham began an interest in acting at a young age and studied mime at the respected and renowned school of Étienne Decroux in Paris before completing her studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. Guest roles on British television followed in the late 1960s such as The Saint and UFO, however Beacham's breakthrough was her starring role opposite Marlon Brando in the cult horror film The Nightcomers that brought her critical acclaim and widespread attention. She became a regular staple in British horror films for the remainder of the 1970s and early 1980s such as Dracula A.D. 1972, House of Mortal Sin, Schizo and Inseminoid, however she was still a commonly seen face on television, such as being given her own soap opera in Marked Personal as well as regular modelling work. It was in the 1980s however that Beacham's career became supercharged. She had starring roles in the acclaimed television series Tenko and Connie, the latter gaining particular interest in the US.Beacham moved to Hollywood in the mid-1980s and was given the role of Sable Colby in the ABC soap opera The Colbys, and then joined it's parent show Dynasty where she remained until the show's cancellation. Both shows made Beacham a household name on both sides of the Atlantic as the glamour-puss wife of Charlton Heston's character Jason and cousin of Joan Collins' Alexis, with the two regularly involved in a 'battle of the bitches' scenario. Following the cancellation of Dynasty, Beacham headlined the sitcom Sister Kate for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award, before going on to have main roles in Beverly Hills, 90210 as Iris McKay, Steven Spielberg's Seaquest DSV as Dr. Kristen Westphalen and Countess Bartholomew in Star Trek: The Next Generation as well as film roles opposite Christopher Plummer in Secrets and Anthony Hopkins in To Be The Best. Beacham maintained a regular presence on television and in theatre both in the US and the UK for the remainder of the 1990s until she played Phyllida Oswyn in the prison series Bad Girls, a role she would play until the show's end in 2006. She would later have parts in films such as Love and Other Disasters, Moving Target and Wild Oats and played Martha Fraser in Coronation Street. Her theatre credits are extensive and include roles in the West End and on Broadway. Most recently she completed UK tours as Judith Bliss in Hay Fever and Maria Callas in Masterclass. It is the role of Mrs Cheveley in Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband in 1998 that brought her to Australia and it is this production which reunites us both after a couple of decades to reminisce and catch up.The STAGES podcast is available to access and subscribe from Spotify and Apple podcasts. Satan's Slave (1976), Prey (1977), and Terror (1978) There are a lot of directors out there that might not have a huge filmography, or even be that well known to the general population of film fans, even in the horror genre. So there is always room to discover them! In this episode, we take a look at three films by British independent director Norman J. Warren, who didn't make a lot of films, but we feel the ones he did make, make him a worthy subject for us to discuss. Honestly, it might make sense to read a little about him before diving into the films, or at least, do it afterwards but I think he is a good example of knowing what he had to make what he did, for us, makes them a little more impressive. You'll get blood, you'll get nudity, and a lot more than you'd expect in these three very British tales of horror. Films mentioned in this episode: Batman (1989), Bloody New Year (1987), Curse of the Crimson Alter (1968), The Devil Rides Out (1968), Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972), Dr. Terror's House of Horror (1965), Flesh and Blood Show (1972), The Godsend (1980), Horror Hospital (1973), Horror Planet aka Inseminoid (1981), House by the Cemetery (1981), Night Creatures (1962), Prey (1977), Satan's Slave (1976), Shiver of the Vampire (1971), Suspiria (1977), Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973), Terror (1978), Tower of Evil (1972), Vampyres (1974)

After a long and disturbing conversation about the pros and cons of procreation, Acomi and Turk182 decide the only way to settle their argument is to watch a movie that illustrates their point of view. Acomi selects the Kevin Bacon 80s rom-com She's Having A Baby, and Turk chooses the Tim Kincaid 80s sci-fi classic Breeders. In a compromise, they land upon the 1981 British sci-fi movie Inseminoid a.k.a. Horror Planet. Somewhat reminiscent of Alien, but not enough to be interesting, Inseminoid attempts to be more psychological, using confusion, disbelief, emotional bonds, and confinement to create tension and suspense. It fails by not clearly defining the characters' roles, individual duties, and motivations. What they're doing, why, for whom, and to what purpose is never fully stated. Even the alien's origin, purpose, and motivation is left blank. Join Acomi and Turk as watch the stumbling and bumbling of these doomed space miners, and make bets on which ones will die next. Acomi and Turk182, along the occasional special guest, provide running commentary of awfulsome movie and TV shows. The hosts select movies that either one, or both, have never seen. Congratulations! If you are reading this stupid description and listening to this stupider podcast, you survived 2020-- or you're a very smart zombie. To celebrate the new year, the theme for January is New Year, New Movies! That's right, and entire month of movie reviews, but do not worry, they are not new in time, just in title. Every film this month with have "New" in its name. To start, Doug and Jake discuss Bloody New Year, a movie with perhaps the best poster ripping off Evil Dead 2 of any in history. This film came out in 1987 and fun fact-- it makes no sense whatsoever. Directed by Norman J. Warren, who also directed Inseminoid, Prey, Satan's Slave, and Terror. The film itself was written by Frazer Pearce, and it is his only writing credit. Bloody New Year features songs by Cry No More, which reminds me-- be sure to send us your favorite poop-related Pat Benetar puns! Doug discusses how this film is potentially cursed, sharing both his experiences and those of a close friend. Is this movie sci fi? A haunted house? A bit of both? We discuss all the possibilities. Then, Ade and Jake talk about New Year's Evil, from 1980. The film was directed by Emmett Alston, and written by Leonard Neubauer. Unlike Bloody New Year, this film is a straightforward slasher film, and it is surprisingly competent, given how early in the slashers boom it was released. Also, they discuss how the film has aged and how the incel antagonist translates to the 21st century audience. They discuss the structure of the film, the kills, and that wonderful Stan Laurel mask from the end. What do you think? Should it have been worn the whole film? If you have not checked out the title track from the film by Shadow, you can find it here: https://bit.ly/3b9tLdV If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. With this episode we cross the one decade mark! Neither Troy or I thought we’d still be making this podcast ten years after we began, but here we are! We realized that, although our enthusiasm for Paul Naschy’s work has only grown, it was time to actively seek out more new voices to include on the show. So, our goal for 2020 is to speak to a host of people who have never been on the podcast to get their perspectives on his movies. A diversity of opinion is always food for thought and we think this will be the perfect way to start new discussions about the long legacy of Jacinto Molina. These are great days for Senor Naschy as more and more of his films are available on Blu-Ray bringing a whole new generation of fans to his mad world of monsters and horror. That means people are discovering El Hombre Lobo and his other creations every day so its time to kick open the doors and see what his influence is a full decade after his passing. This giant-sized episode includes four new voices to the podcast. I asked each participant to talk about one of the Waldemar Daninsky films and they (luckily) jumped at the chance. Adrian Smith has podcasted with me over on The Bloody Pit discussing INSEMINOID and CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST but he steps up to discuss his first Naschy werewolf film - WEREWOLF SHADOW. Derek Koch is a podcasting O.G. with his incredibly popular Monster Kid Radio serving as a focal point for these kinds of classic (and not so classic) movies. He joins us to talk about the Naschy monster mash ASSIGNMENT TERROR. Author Steven Sullivan has been on the Bloody Pit in the past talking about the colorful Doctor Who films made in the 1960’s, but his love of all things Naschy bubbles over in our conversation about CURSE OF THE DEVIL. Matthew Kowalski is a longtime fan of the podcast and has often written in to give us his thoughts on the various Spanish horror topics we dig into on the show. He sat down to talk about his favorite of the Daninsky films – WEREWOLF SHADOW - giving us a different look at that iconic movie. Afterward, Troy and I tackle an email and makes plans to get to our backlogged correspondence over the next couple of shows. We promise! I’ve already got a couple more guests for future episodes lined up including some folks I’ve never spoken with before. So exciting! This is going to be a great year for the Naschycast even if I don’t think we’ll produce another four-and-a-half-hour episode! Seriously, I’ll try to break things up as we go forward. If you have any comments or suggestion please write us at naschycast@gmail.com or message us on the Facebook page. Thank you for listening and we’ll be back soon!

"Alien" (1979) and its sequel "Aliens" (1986) have influenced countless films in their wake. They both have possibly created, and definitely have made previously existing tropes popular, cementing them into pop culture to the extent that one can easily recognise an "'Alien' formula" in many different films, regardless of setting. In this episode Lee explores the soundtracks and scores of films that clearly display this formula. Considering the vast amount of films out there to choose from, there will at least be a part 2. --Main Title from "It! Once again Adrian Smith returns to the show! This time out we're discussing (at length) one of Norman J. Warren's films – INSEMINOID (1981). Probably the most notorious of the director's horror efforts, it's very poster art was controversial. The movie brings the idea of an alien creature injecting its offspring into a human host for gestation further into the open than even Ridley Scott's classic ALIEN (1979) managed. Coupled with that hideous imagery the film also sports the usual Warren level of blood and gore making this a nasty little viewing experience even by today's standards. Newcomers to the film might be surprised to see some well-known actresses plunging elbow deep into the violent sci-fi exploitation pits. You might also be impressed with how much the cast and crew accomplish on such a small budget.  Adrian is the perfect person to talk about this film as he is responsible for the book about the director included in Indicator's new five film Blu-Ray set ‘Bloody Terror: The Shocking Cinema of Norman J. Warren 1976-1981'. In this informative work he lays out the details of Warren's horror output giving insight into the troubles British productions run into regularly. Often it seems a minor miracle that any of these lower budgeted movies ever got completed. We mostly restrict our comments to INSEMINOID with a fair amount of detailed conversation about the script's problems and the ingenious ways the filmmakers found to overcome unforeseen hazards. We also delve into the bizarre additions and changes made to the story in the film's novelization. Certainly, the choice to shoot mostly on location was a decision that enhanced the look of the film but it was quite hard on the cast. Be aware that we spoil the entire movie as we proceed so, if that's important to you, please go watch it before listening to us debate its relative merits. Adrian and I have very different views on this one so I think you'll find it an interesting show. Oh! And we end things with a new version of the classic song Monster Mash and an extra solo bit of Adrian as he amuses himself while I'm away from the mic.  If you have any comments or questions thebloodypit@gmail.com is the email address. We'd love to hear from you. Posts can also be made on the show's FaceBook page. Thank you for downloading and listening.

Greetings, and welcome back to Horror Business. We have one awesome episode in store for you guys. On this episode we’re discussing two films dealing with those pesky Oids: 1982’s Inseminoid and 1987’s Creepazoids. First and foremost we want to give a shoutout to our sponsors over at Lehigh Valley Apparel Creations, the premiere screen-printing company of the Lehigh Valley. Chris Reject and his merry band of miscreants are ready to work with you to bring to life your vision of a t-shirt for your business, band, project, or whatever else it is you need represented by a shirt, sweater, pin, or coozy. Head on over to www.xlvacx.com to check them out. Thanks! We start by talking about what we’ve seen or done lately in the field of horror. We have a brief discussion on the recent Childish Gambino video “This Is America” and how some of visuals in the video are undeniably horrific. We follow this by having a brief discussion of the recent trailer for Revenge, in which misogynistic comments made by male YouTube members were used to promote the movie. We discuss the upcoming release of Hereditary. Liam talks about his befuddlement at people enjoying further installments in the The Conjuring cinematic universe, and touches upon subscribing to the new Fangoria service. Justin talks about finally seeing Resolution in anticipation of seeing The Endless but ultimately failing to see the latter due to GPS mishaps. Liam talks about attending Exhumed Film’s Ex-Fest in Philly. First up is Inseminoid. We begin by talking about how this movie is essentially an attempt to cash in on the success of Alien. We give a brief plot outline of the movie. Justin talks about his unease with a movie that has as its villain a woman who is the victim of sexual assault. There is a discussion about how the story of the movie is affected by the budget available and how that is quite clear in the look of the movie. The idea of an ‘earnestly made bad movie’ is touched upon briefly. Liam points out that the film’s lack of a villain is the reason the movie leans so hard in to Judy Geeson being the bad guy and ultimately falling short in doing so. Liam and Justin have a brief verbal scuffle on the matter of Lifeforce and British horror. The performance of some of the actors is discussed, in that they’re fine but not amazing. Liam discusses how the film looks, and weird lack of weapons in British horror films is discussed. We talk about the rushed production and the strange scene involving the baby Inseminoids. Next we talk about Creepazoids. We briefly discuss the career of director David DeCoteau and give an outline of the movie. The shoddy production value of the film is discussed. The gaps in the plot outline, very bad acting, and terrible set design are discussed. We talk about the creature’s lack of motivation, in that it’s not quite clear what the creature’s purpose is. We talk about the film’s jocking of other films such as Evil Dead and Alien. The plodding nature of the film and it’s horrible pacing is discussed, as is the flat archetypical characters. The history of horror movies copying big budget films at the time is discussed. As always thanks to everyone and anyone who donated on Patreon, checked this episode out, or shared a tweet/shared a post on FB/gave us love by recommending us to someone. We love you forever for listening. Any questions, comments, suggestions for movies and guests, or if you yourself want to join us for a movie viewing or even an episode, can be sent to thehorrorbiz@gmail.com.
